March 12th | @Aaron Jones
Sixteen.
How on earth was she sixteen?
The morning had felt a little surreal to the Slytherin when she realized that it was in fact her birthday again. Only a few years ago, she had been certain she wouldn't even reach thirteen given the amount of tragedies that seemed to unfold around her. But here she was, living her best life- or the best she had in a while.

The last years she hadn't felt much motivation to do anything for her birthday but now... Opeila almost regretted that she hadn't planned a party or any of the likes, like she had liked to do back in first year.
But her regret didn't last long, in fact only up until she ran into Alec short after breakfast.
With only a little guilt the fifth year spent the majority of the day with him- would Aaron be very upset?- but she hoped her little evening plan would make up for whatever negative feeling this might have caused her boyfriend.

That evening at supper, Opeila waited until short before the end, one eye on the Hufflepuff table, while she was chatting with her housemates. Only when people started to get ready to leave the hall, she would levitate the little note she had written and let it fly all the way over to the badger table, where she would let it land right before Aaron.

For a while she had pondered about what to write to him, but in the end she had kept it simple- even if a little cheesy. A little.
The note had only one line and at the bottom a little sketch of a broom.

March 12th was a day that had been marked in Aaron Jones' calendar for many months now. Opeila's birthday. He had been looking forward to it for quite some time now, trying to plan something really spectacular for the day. He'd been practicing a little performance for weeks now, planning to surprise her with it.

Perhaps Aaron should've checked with her that her day would be free, and it was definitely his mistake for assuming as much, but hearing that she would be spending most of the day with Alec had been... difficult. Alec of all people? Sure, he was her best friend, and she didn't know how Aaron felt about the guy, but still... The Hufflepuff was reminded of Illowy's advice about telling Opeila how he felt about the whole situation. He had planned to talk to her about it after her birthday so she could have a fun day, but maybe doing it before her birthday would've been the right move... Oh well, too late now.

Now he was spending the majority of her birthday like it was just another day, but he had to tell himself that today wasn't about him. It was about her. And if she wanted to spend most of the day with her best friend, he could accept that. Maybe they could hangout after dinner, and he could still show her the performance he planned. And it was almost like his girlfriend read his mind, because as he was chatting with a mate and chowing down on some pie, a letter landed in front of him. He instinctively glanced up, half expecting to see an owl, but he knew they only came in the morning. His next instinct was to look at the letter itself, and of course he recognized her handwriting. He smiled instinctively as he read the note, then a look of surprise appeared. She wanted to go flying? That was certainly unusual, but exciting.

Aaron glanced over his shoulder and sent his girlfriend a wink, confirming that he'd meet her outside. About fifteen minutes later, Aaron and his Silver Arrow flew onto the grounds and found Opeila near their tree. The tree he'd been teaching her Taekwondo at all those months ago, just before they'd started dating. It had become a common meetup spot for them over the months.

"Hey," Aaron said, grinning as he dismounted in a very smooth transition to standing next to her. One hand held the Silver Arrow and the other snaked its way around her waist as he pulled her close for a kiss. A rather passionate one at that, given he hadn't seen very much of her today. "Happy Birthday," he whispered, his grin turning to a more genuine smile once he pulled away. Of course he had seen her briefly that morning just before breakfast and said the same, but she'd been off to do her things not long after. With Alec between classes and such. This was the first time they were alone today and he was quite happy about it.

"You've had a good day?" he asked, his smile staying on his lips. Even if the topic turned to Alec, he was determined not to let it bother him. He wanted Opeila to have the best day possible. "I was surprised to hear you might want to go flying," he added, leaning his Silver Arrow against the tree behind them so his other hand could caress her cheek. "You actually want to?"

Feeling a little anxious, Opeila made her way down to the grounds after dinner, subconsciously fidgeting with a little paperbag in her pocket. She didn't think that spending the day with her best friend was wrong, but there was a pang of guilt nonetheless. But they had never spoken about any plans for the day, so... surely this had to be okay, right? And if it wasn't, this evening would surely make up for the day, right?

Aaron's reaction to the note seemed positive enough.
Opeila noticed too late that she hadn't given Aaron a location to meet her, so she went to the most obvious one- their tree. The tree where he had taught her to fight. And where they later got caught by Akari. Huh, what a weird combination of memories was connected to this tree.

Aaron seemed to have come to the same conclusion, soon he landed next to her, dismounted his broom and immediately pulled her close for a kiss, making her giggle. Man, how was she still turning into the most cliché love struck teenage girl in seconds around her boyfriend?
"Thank you", she whispered back. Grinning, she brought up one hand to flatten his hair, that was disheveled after the flight.

"I did", Opeila answered his question, trying to figure out whether or not he was upset without being too obvious about it. "I got us something." Opeila pulled the paperbag out of her pocket, her fingers brushing another item. She wouldn't take that out unless the occasion truly called for it. Carefully she opened the paperbag, holding it, so Aaron could see the contents: a ton of sweets of all kinds, as well as a few cupcakes.

"Yes, I actually want to go flying" She caught his hand, turned her head and placed a kiss into his palm. "But only if you don't let me fall.", she added, smirking at him.
She wasn't lying, she did want to go flying, however... her stomach was tightening at the thought of being high up again. Maybe flying with Aaron would help her nervousness a bit?
