Quinn loved Christmas! It was her favorite holiday and she loved to come home for the holidays. There was only one problem. Her relationship with Declan. They had barely talked when he came to Hogwarts for the fall ball and she hadn't seen him since. Now she was the first to talk to him and was shivering slightly outside his door. The door opened and a look of surprise flashed on Declan's face.
"Hi Quinn." He said, a little dully. Quinn flashed a smile.
"Hey Dec, do you mind if I come inside?" She asked. Declan shook his head and motioned for her to enter. Quinn shrugged off her jacket and took off her shoes as she came inside.
"Let's go to my room." Declan suggested. As Declan closed the door to his room Quinn bit her lip. She had prepared something to say but was starting to chicken out.
"Hey Dec..." Quinn started. Declan turned to her.
"Yeah Quinn?" He asked. Taking a deep breath she started again.
"The thing is... We kind of left things off on a bad spot." Quinn said. Declan sighed.
"Yeah I guess we did. That's kind of my fault, I didn't ask you what you were comfortable with." Declan said.
"But I do have a question...did you like anyone else?" He continued. Quinn winced, somehow she knew that this question was coming.
"I... yes. I liked another boy. I don't anymore though. Now, I like you." The statement rang in the air for what felt like hours.
"I like you too." Declan said. Declan sat down on his bed and Quinn followed.
"Dec-does this mean that were dating?" Quinn asked.
"I dunno... do you want to make that commitment?" Declan asked her. Quinn didn't know what to say. Of course she wanted to make sure that Declan didn't give her up but she didn't know if she was ready to commite to anybody. She was only 13 after all.
"Can I think about it?" Quinn asked Declan. Declan shrugged.
"Take all the time you need. I don't care." He replied. Quinn took his hand and squeezed it in what she hoped was a reassuring way. Lying her head down on his shoulder she sighed.
"I do like you enough to date you just so you know. The reason I don't know if I want to is because were still so young. It could break our friendship." Quinn said quietly to Declan. Declan nodded.
"I understand. You should probably go home now by the way. It's getting dark." Declan stood up and Quinn nodded.
"Look, Don't worry about me. I'm fine." Declan said. Quinn grabbed his hands for a moment before hugging him.
"Stay safe." She said before running out the door.

Christmas Eve was a magical time at Quinn's house. Christmas music was played at full blast, her family sang along of course. Cookies for Santa were made and milk was put out by the fireplace. Stockings were hung and games of wizard chess were played by the dozen. Eggnog was drunk and good feeling was all around. Quinn loved seeing Christmas lights around town so every year they went out for dinner and then drove around Dublin, looking at lights. Quinn was getting ready for church when she heard a knock on her door. When she opened it she saw Declan. Declan was standing in the snow, holding a present.
"N-Nice dress." He stammered. Quinn was wearing a medium length red dress with small white sparkles.
"Thanks." She said before realizing that Declan was freezing.
"Come inside." Declan trudged inside the house and put his boots to the side.
"Look, Quinn, I wanted to talk to you about what we had discussed a few days ago." Quinn mentally groaned. She still hadn't figured out what to do.
"I know you said that you needed time and I know I said that you could have as much time as you needed." Declan said in one breath.
"But I think that we could just try it out. What if I promise you that we will always be friends." He said grabbing her hand. Quinn felt his hand but didn't move it.
"I-I don't know. It's a lot to think about..."
"Quinn. Please." Declan said, staring into her eyes.
"Ok. Let's try it out." Quinn said after a moment of silence. Declan's face broke into a wide grin. Quinn let out a giggle of delight as Declan spun her around. And then he was kissing her, and she was kissing him. A snicker broke them apart. Quinn realized that they were still standing in the middle of the hallway. Maeve and Sean were standing, watching her. Declan, still smiling, bit his lip.
"I'd better go. See you later Quinn!" And then he was gone.
"So what was that about." Maeve asked a bright red Quinn.
"Oh nothing..." She mumbled.
"Nothing huh? That kissing sure looked like something!" Sean teased. Quinn wished her younger brother and older sister were not there.
"Let's just go to church shall we?" Quinn said, quickly changing the subject.

"Merry Christmas Quinn!" Declan said as he handed her a gift. It was snowing again and they had both bundled up and were sitting in a flowery field.
"Thanks Dec!" Quinn said, pecking him on the cheek. Declan blushed and mumbled somthing that might have been "no problem". Quinn opened the gift and squeeled with delight. Inside the box was a shimmery necklace with the letter Q in a heart.
"It's beautiful... my gift isn't nearly as good as this." Quinn said, putting the necklace on.
"I'm sure your gift for me is fine." Declan said. Quinn handed him a neatly wrapped present.
"Wow, thanks Quinn!" Declan said as he opened the gift. Inside was a golden wizard watch.
"It was my uncles, so sorry if it's a little beat up..." Quinn said, a little sheepishly.
"Don't be sorry, this is amazing! I've always wanted one of these!" Declan said before hugging her. Quinn smiled with relief. What a Christmas this turned out to be. She had never expected that she would be spending it with Declan as her boyfriend. She hadn't expected that she would be going back to Hogwarts as a girlfriend. It was nice, knowing that she was loved.
