Vengeance
How? How? How had he missed it?
It was so obvious.
For nearly a week now his terrifying encounter with The Old Man had haunted him. Most men might live lives of quiet desperation, but for most men that did not become true at thirteen. Most men knew not of magic, most men would never know of magic, they would never know of its many wonders, they would never know of its deep horror.
Few men would ever creep out of bed in the dead of night to go looking in the dark for ink and quill. Fewer still would voluntarily lay down on a cold stone floor wearing nothing but thin pyjamas and fashion a secret place out of their bedsheets, draping it over the edges. Only a dim, diffused glow shining through the heavy cloth and the occasional scratching of a quill could betray Finnegan as he penned his letter to @Mathias Pride
Next, he wrote in a tiny scrawl on the reverse: "undo me"
At the crack of dawn he would hastily throw on some warm clothes and find an owl to deliver his message to the most arrogant, most ill-mannered Slyherin of them all.
His enemy, but also his enemy's enemy.

When he was done he tapped his wand against the parchment and incanted: "Illegibilus."Mathias,
Have you ever heard of the phrase: "the enemy of my enemy is my friend?"
I don't suppose we will ever be friends.
But we don't have to be enemies. Not now. Not after what he did to her.
I know it was him. He's hardly hiding it.
I know you know too.
I know he can do it again.
He will do it again given the chance.
I have something for you. All you have to do is work your magic and unban me from Puddifoots.
I'll be there at noon Saturday 18. You should come too if you love her and don't want to end up alone forever.
Because he won't stop. Not ever. You know I'm right.

Mathias would find the letter in the library. He rarely ate with the rest of the student body. They did not offer wiener schnitzel at breakfast and it was one of the few things that could get the boy to break even his own rules. He had consumed his granola and his thermos of water and was spending, as he did most mornings, this quiet time in the library. He had a keen interest in dark magic, runes in particular. But there were not many tomes of actual use, as one might expect in a library with such open and easy access. Still, there are often hints of what can be or might be in these books if he was willing to read between the lines.
Then a letter would drop in front of him. It lacked a vessel and he was not expecting anything. So it was with caution and the tip of his quill that he would unfasten the bindings and unfurl the parchment. Blank, or well appearing blank. He would notice rather quickly the simple instruction left on the parchment - em odnu, undo me. Pulling his wand from his holster at his hip he would cast the charm necessary to reveal the ink.
He sighed. OK, I'll bite...
He dipped the quill into the ink at his table and began to write.
With another sigh, he coiled the letter and made his way to the Owlery, the scene of the crime.

He snorted derisively. What was that slug up to now? He knew that Finnegan had a thing for his woman and that irked him, but honestly what truly riled him was the petrification spell he had successfully unleashed on him, embarrassing the prideful snake in front of Winnie. he embarrassed him in kind and would have been satisfied, but Finnegan was like chewing gum on the bottom of your shoe, always present, always irritating. he saw the alleged love affair between Finnegan and his younger brother Gideon and knew it to be bullshit. He had met his brother. He had no idea what sort of game Finn was playing or if somehow Giddy had a soft spot for someone other than Taylor.Mathias,

And with a final threat, he wondered if he should have just met Finn in the Owlery. Gave Giddy a taste of his own medicine. There was a chance, albeit small, that Gideon had some sort of sentiment or perhaps just lust (eww) towards the awkward Gryffindor. He would enjoy the prospect immensely even if there was no impact.Finnegan,
I didn’t miss your message, though I’ll admit I questioned your audacity to send it. You must be desperate or foolish—or both—to think I’d ever align myself with you. But here I am, considering it, because you’re right about one thing: he won’t stop.
What he did to Winnie… Let’s just say I’ve got no interest in sitting idly by while my little brother plays his sick games. And before you start thinking I’m doing this for you, let me make one thing clear: I hate you, Connor. You’re a thorn in my side and an absolute nuisance, but even you don’t deserve what Gideon has in store for you.
So, fine. We’ll talk. We’ll see if you’re more useful than the pathetic whiner everyone assumes you are. Don’t mistake this for trust or anything resembling friendship. This is necessity. Gideon’s crossed a line, and I can’t risk him getting bolder. If this partnership keeps Winnie safe—if it stops him—I’ll entertain the idea.
But mark my words, Finnegan: the second you step out of line, the second I catch you even looking at Winnie the wrong way, this truce ends. I’ll make you regret every breath you’ve taken since we met.
Unban you from Puddifoots? You’re insufferable. But I’ll see you there. Saturday. Don’t be late. And bring whatever "something" you think is worth my time.
For your sake, I hope you’re not wasting it.
Mathias
