Laelius de Amicitia.

Laelius de Amicitia, or just De Amicitia, was something that Cel had glanced over superficially in her younger years, not something she'd read into like the Metamorphoses or The Odyssey. Still, it had been interesting enough that she'd recognized its spine in the middle of the library as she tucked herself in a corner that almost nobody went near. And if they did, they would be the quiet Muggle-Borns bent on reading from their former world, darting by once in a while for the hints of fantasy and fiction. She was one of them, of course.

Working with the whimsical tomes surrounding her always reassured her—reminded her that this place maybe wasn't so different from the fantastical visions she'd escaped to before. In a life as... jarring as hers, she liked nothing more than to slip into another from time to time, see what life could be like elsewhere, where she wasn't yanked around the schedule of her family drama like a rag doll. It was supposed to be over, though, with the magnificent revelation over the summer two years ago—it had been two years already! She'd been happy enough to gain a brother, of course, and answers were always welcome, it was just... sometimes she wanted it to stop. All of it. Just for a few minutes.

So the girl crammed herself into the back corner of the library, where the fading light of sundown filtered through old glass to illuminate parchment, where she could dive headfirst into the calm tangle of homework. Just another student tucked away at a desk, working on her homework, like all the others in the castle, and this was why she liked Hogwarts, because of how much it resembled the worlds of wonder that she liked to dream of. Also, unless Svana sent a Howler, which she was usually too prideful to do, she couldn't get yelled at. That was a definite plus.

Muggle-Borns would frequent the area sometimes, but even then they rarely disturbed her, maybe casting her a few odd looks as they grabbed a few volumes and ran off to no doubt devour them like she did every night, but this was her corner, where anyone she could call a friend knew where to find her on most days of the week. It was here, a classroom, her dormitory or the Hospital Wing. She used to use the Study Room, too, but there would be people asking her for help or her advice there, and she really didn't need to deal with that when she just wanted to shut out the rest of the world. Her dorm worked better for that, dormmates knowing not to disturb her and music played as loud as she liked it, a bit too much for comfort, but her desk was currently trashed with way too many sketches that she needed to throw away, and until the House Elves came it was probably going to stay that way.

Mindlessly written answers and essays poured from her mind to her hand to her quill and her ink. Clair de Lune played softly in the magical earbuds attached to the music-playing orbs from her dorm, one nestled in her ear under her hair and the other dangling just above the table. At some point it had fallen out, but she didn't feel obliged to put it back in at the moment.

Dale loved the library, it was the place he spent the most time. The smell of dust and books, the grand bookshelves and many tables for studying. It all created a calming and homey atmosphere for Dale. The only part that really bothered him was the number of people, sometimes the library would be too crowded for his liking, and he would go to the hill by the lake, almost no one bothered him there. His dorm wasn't an option for him, he usually stayed away from the dorm most of the day, he only went there to sleep.

The reason he was in the library today was to do some self-studying, but sadly, his brain did not comply, he tried to focus on the charms textbook in front of him, but his head kept slipping into daydream after daydream. After two or so hours of trying to focus on studying Dale finally gave up and shut the book, he got up and returned the book to its spot. Standing by the great bookshelves he sighed at stretched his arms a bit. he looked around trying to find a more interesting book on charms, but he couldn't find one that pulled his interest, he eventually gave up and wandered off looking for books that caught his interest.

As he wandered through the maze of knowledge he though back over his first year at Hogwarts, it was truly a dull year, most of his time was spent in the library or by the lake, mostly reading and doing his homework. He had interacted with very few people and had almost no people whom he considered a friend. As he thought about it, he got more and more depressed, other people could seemingly make friends very easily, so why was it so difficult for him. He hoped he would do better this year in terms of people he met.

His aimless wander around the library left it at the small muggle section near the back of the library, he scanned the spines of some of the books, he had recognized a few of the books from his mother's personal library. Books like Pride and Prejudice and The Oddesy caught his eyes, he had read both before and was suddenly struck with an urge to read both again. He plucked the books out and looked at the looks. They looked a little beat up, probably checked out quite a bit by other students. He looked around and found some tables. He had never been to this part of the library before, he didn't even know there was a set of tables this far back.

As he approached the tables he noticed someone, a girl, she was doing the same thing Dale was about to do himself, engrossed into a book. Two things stood out about the girl. One thing was that she seemed to be wearing earbuds, that was strange, Dale was sure that electronic devices didn't work at Hogwarts, perhaps she was using magic to listen to music, he wasn't very sure. The second thing was much a much bigger thing, Dale felt like he had seen this girl somewhere, he had no idea from where, but her face just seemed familiar to him. He decided to sit at the table, a few seats away from the girl, about eight and opened The Oddessy, but instead of reading all he could think about was the where he had seen the girl before.

He racked his brain trying to think to where he had seen her before, as he sat there hand through his hair staring blankly at the first page of his book, it came to him. Dale once had a friend when his family lived in California, she was the only person he truly considered a friend to this very day, as he thought back to his days living in California a name came to him Celynne, that was his friend's name. As he looked back at the girl, he was at disbelief could this really be his friend form almost 5 years ago, he was usually too awkward to ask people for directions, but his raging curiosity got the better of him. "Well, what's the worse that can happen, if she says no you can just run away from here, and then avoid her for the rest of your life." He thought to himself and then blurted out "Umm, excuse me, is your name Celynne perhaps?" He asked the girl, he hoped he didn't seem weird, but he probably did.

Praesentia minuit famam.

Someone had sat down at her table. Thank goodness he hadn't tried to sit right next to her; if that had happened she might've had to move tables, and if that was considered, fake an excuse about having to go meet someone. Or something. It wouldn't be the first time she'd done something like that, kind of a low blow, but times were desperate sometimes. But nothing about what she would do changed the fact that there was someone sitting at her table, reading something.

Her eyes flicked up from shadows behind the textbook that she hid behind, green and brown taking in an unfamiliar brown-haired boy. He didn't look like someone from her year, or anyone that she'd seen lurking around the shelves here yet, explaining why he probably didn't know the kind of unspoken agreement between the Muggle-Borns frequenting these shelves and herself. And maybe considering this table her table was a little arrogant of her, but old habits die hard, and she'd just enough had it with needing to share workspaces. Plenty of people used it while she wasn't there, she was sure. Honestly, people cleared out when she approached at this point. It was nice. She left them chocolate sometimes.

Originally, she had intended to ignore the boy, return to reading, until he left. Irritation pulsed in her mind, but she could shove it down under the mask of tranquility, focus on the text in front of her. After all, it was easy to lose herself in words, something that people often struggled with when reading nonfiction, but really a world of objective views and concentrated subjects was just as enticing as fantasy and whim. Here, there was logic, in the way that if P implied Q and Q implied R, then P implied R. Simple hypological syllogism.

Unfortunately, fate didn't really care about her intentions.

So in mere minutes, the boy had spoken up, his voice distracting Cel from her thoughts. She sighed internally, biting it back externally, and shifted her book down a few inches so she could see past it. Couldn't she read in peace for once? Was there always something distracting her? Deep down she knew the young wizard didn't deserve her ire, but the irritation was there, and even if she wasn't going to let it anywhere other than inside her own mind, it boiled and raged alone.

The actual words that escaped his mouth, though, those words made her glad that she'd listened. Or perhaps not glad, but they drew her attention enough for her to close her book, forgoing a bookmark in favor of memorizing the page number. Bookmarks went missing all too easily. Memories, too, but she couldn't imagine that they were lost so easily without help. Cel furrowed her brow, a little wary and a little confused. "Yes, it is," she replied. "Do I know you?"

Maybe he's heard about her from someone, which was unlikely because people didn't like mentioning her to other people unless it was Pureblood gossip, and few people who engaged in Pureblood gossip decided to come all the way over here in the Muggle section. Maybe he knew her brother or something. But if this was about her history, she was ready to run, legs already tensed against the ground.

Dale was glad he asked, he felt a swell of joy and relief when the girl confirmed that she was the person Dale thought she was. But what confused Dale was with her response. She had asked if she knew who he was. It had been several years since they had last met, so he didn't find it all that strange that she might have forgotten about him and their friendship. "I-It's me, Dale, Dale K-Kurt." He said with a smile, hoping it would jog her memory. D-Do you not remember me?

As he looked at the girl more closely, she more he was assured that this was indeed the girl Dale befriend when he was younger, her eyes stood out to him the most, one was brown and one was green. It wasn't very easy to forget someone with two different eye colors, well at least he thought so. The girl was also shorter than him, she seemed to be older than Dale, perhaps a 3rd year. Dale's height troubled him a little, he was taller than almost everyone in his year, and also a lot of 3rd years he had seen and met. His height was the one thing that stood out about his appearance, everything else about him was completely average.
