The courtyard, arguably the best place in Hogwarts. The ever present hum of water, the background track of talking, the shuffle of footsteps were all sounds Anella loved. She was sketching a cat that had fallen asleep a couple feet from her – and the sketch was turning out wack. She’s not an artist, unfortunately, but her social battery was too drained by her housemates today for her to really care about approaching someone right now. A corner of the courtyard seemed perfectly acceptable for this Monday afternoon. The cat was pure black, its eyes closed, so it was practically anonymous. Her sketches of it looked like random smudges od black, only two pointy ears popping up on the left. She grew more frustrated with each attempt, her commonplace book now having two whole pages of scribbles of this damned cat! The cat was suddenly woken up by a student deciding to pet it, but it just yawned and didn’t return much affection. It stretched, so Anella was reminded to do so too.

She stood up, placing her book on the half wall that she was leaning on originally, and put her arms up as far as she could. Then she put them as far back as her shoulders would allow, although mindful of the other people around her, and finally rolled her head back and forth. Soccer left behind a big hole in her life, but that hole was hopefully gonna be filled when she gets the chance to try out for quidditch. She didn’t know what exactly to do with her extra energy, and then she cringed at the memory of her muggle teachers saying “Imagine if you studied as good as you play soccer!”. Like yeah, of course she had the same amount of interest and passion for both soccer and physics, of course! Her frown stayed on her face as she scanned the courtyard, looking for nothing in particular. Last week, someone brought a ball down here, so she got to teach a couple of clueless but well meaning purebloods how to pass the ball, and show off her tricks. Eventually they stopped because someone's pet got kicked, and Anella excused herself to the bathroom before she could see the rest of it.

Her eyes widened as her eyes came across another girl, and then they were holding eye contact. Or, well, Anella was curiously watching her, and the other girl was judgmentally watching back. How long was she watching? What? Anella raises an eyebrow, scanning the girl right back. A gryffindor, about an inch taller than her, and very pretty. She flipped all her hair onto one shoulder, side eyeing the girl as she turned around to grab her notebook. Was she alright? Like in the head? Why’s she staring- No, glaring?

The day had begun perfectly normal — as normal as a day could get here in the castle. Meiyu had a light breakfast consisting of fruit, the chatter was much louder this morning at breakfast with students discussing upcoming plans for the Christmas break. She had attended her classes on time, though transfiguration had felt like an eternity to her, yet still normal. It was at lunch where the day shifted. A male student had mistaken Meiyu for his girlfriend, resulting in him pouncing onto her as though they had known each other, the shock of it left the random student beyond embarrassed, his cheeks immediately turning a hue of pink as he had apologised profusely. That was the first incident, only a few minutes into lunch. The second occurred when a few students throwing parchment balls around ended hitting her. Both instances left her fuming. It was as though the winter air and the looming holiday season had caused people to go mad. History of Magic went by smoothly after lunch, thankfully Professor Lennox's beauty was enough to ease Meiyu's temper, irregardless to some of the painstakingly boring topics such as Goblin Rebellions being discussed.

With the day's classes coming to an end, the afternoon seemed ever so slightly more fruitful now that it was over. The whimsical air chimed through the castles fortress, with this winter solstice approaching over the next few weeks, the air had gotten a lot more colder, forcing surrounding students to wrap up warmly and huddle together when outdoors. She had noticed this gradually with the seasons change, particularly this afternoon with her escapade to the courtyard following the end of the class day. Meiyu's uniform being in full wear, her jumper and robes preventing the cold crisp air from contact with her skin, embarrassingly supporting the Gryffindor neck scarf, much to her demise. At times she was thankful for the requirement of uniform, saving her from wearing her usual fashionable attire, which her grandmother had argued was not woman-like, suggesting dresses instead of her choice of mini-skirts and cardigans. With her warmth not being compromised, Meiyu headed towards a spot she had self proclaimed as hers in the courtyard, discarding her satchel reaching for her pink Harlequin inspired notebook, scattered with light pink bow designs, a notebook her only aunt, Wenqing, had gifted her in one of the packages sent to London from Seoul that was filled with other cute stationary she thought the girl would enjoy.

Meiyu paused, her eyes immediately darting across the courtyard instinctively. She retracted her hand, furrowing her brows at how careless she had been, opting to seek comfort in the form of writing anything to ease her from the dullness that followed the peculiar day. Despite the cold season now being in full force, many students chose to occupy the courtyard, though significantly less in comparison to the start of the term when the air had been less harsh and chilling. Most students had opted to huddle together in groups, their new found friendships for the year or pre-existing upperclassmen friend groups huddled together to keep them warm as they went on about their days, unable to escape the condensation from their warm breath colliding with the chilling winter breeze. All but one. The young burgundy haired girl had noticed another, alone, her appearance contrasting her own with blonde hair, green eyes and pale yet freckled skin, features which had reminded her of the hot headed lion she had also met in the courtyard a few months ago. She titled her head, Meiyu's eyes fixated on the foreign girl, unable to pinpoint why she had appeared more familiar than others, perhaps it had been the unintentional similarities they had shared — opting for outdoor solitude rather than the comfort of warmth indoors. Though she had been scribbling away in her own notebook, intriguing the lioness to some extent, soon she was met with wide eyes as the pair maintained eye contact, noting a raised eyebrow. Interesting.

She turned to pull her notebook out from her satchel, before raising from her chosen spot and making her way over to the blonde, hurriedly reaching the stranger and upon inspection and being a lot closer than she initially had been, Meiyu's brown cat-like eyes squinted ever so slightly, her head tilting as she stood in front of the girl. With a imperceptible sigh, she began to immediately question the girl, her tone almost mono and as though Meiyu had lost all forms of class with her intrigue taking over; "Do you know someone called Sanguinius?"
