Totally an Accident, Honest!
" Oh " she was genuinely taken aback at his question " That was the first time you asked me questions. I like it! " she grinned childishly. Did this meant he was warming up to her? She felt oddly satisfied at his simple action.
Since they met, it was all her that initiated a conversation so she felt pleased that she was in the spot to think of an answer instead of the one waiting for a response. She was too giddy over the fact that he finally asked a question to filter what he said, unable ti detect anything wrong with his question.
" Ah...hmm..." she pondered for a moment. Why does she want from him? Originally, it was because she wanted to use him to appear more caring and kind. But, of course she couldn't just say that. He'll definitely hate her and she'll need to find another loner to bug.
A horrid thought came to mind and that was that she actually enjoyed Page's company. He did everything she thought he wouldn't and it was like a whole new incomplete puzzle Fumiko wanted to complete.
That..wasn't the case. She refused to acknowledge this new conclusion and decided to give him a predictable answer.
A sweet smile that seemed a bit dry compared to her last one, she replied. " I just wanted to be your friend . You seem pretty cool "
She wasn't technically...lying.

Noah was slightly taken aback when she seemed to be happy rather than hurt at his question, was she seriously that... ignorant? He wasn't sure what word to use. Dumb, maybe. She just kept doing things so much differently than what he would expect. Yes, he had given up hopes of being able on being able to predict what she would do but this was just a bit too weird for him.
She was taking a while to reply, what should that mean? Was she trying to come up with an excuse for her original plans? Or was she simply not sure? No, he didn't understand people well and he shouldn't pretend to and end up on wrong conclusions.
He simply glanced sideways at her, raising his eyebrows a bit. If nothing, the way she kept saying things that were obviously lies were hitting him the wrong way. Noah Page, someone that people wanted to befriend? Yeah, sure thing.
But... why would she lie about something like that...? She is lying though. But well, she doesn't have much to gain from it, does she? But I can't know what she's thinking, she did lie several times after all... But why would she...
No, he didn't have to waste his time thinking about her, he had to study at the library. But how was he supposed to reply to that anyway? Silence wasn't a good idea at a sentence like that...
After a few seconds of deep contemplation and pushing his mental barriers to the absolute max, Noah came up with the most interesting words said by a human (may change according to different people's viewpoints), "Uh, alright...?"

Totally an Accident, Honest!
She tried to find a window she could imagine where she'd pull Page towards it and tell him to look at that big eagle flying, only to push him off a second later. When she couldn't , she held the urge to let out a disappointed sigh. Idiot, you're not supposed to answer that blandly when someone just confessed about wanting to be your friend.
She felt utterly sorry for that idiot who will confess their love to him in the future. What would he say when that happens? Probably, nothing but stare at the poor soul like they were aliens. She made a promise that second, to comfort the poor soul if that ever happens.
No one deserves such apathetic treatment.
Should she just give up at this point? This was the hardest conversation she ever had to go through and she was quite skilled in turning a boring conversation to something that'll be worthy enough for a declaration of friendship.
She starting weighting the pro's and con's if she decided to leave him now. Con's is that she'll have to find another loner to start Operation : Befriend the Loner , she'll be desk mate less until the rumour dies away ( which makes her feel very lonely ), she'll have the accept the fact that Fumiko Tachibana, the charming, social and adorable young lady had failed to befriend someone.
Pro's is that she'll never have to talk to him again.
...
Trying her best to conceal the urge to smile like she was gifted an infinite supply of bubbles, she dropped the dry smile she had before and made a guilty look.
" Oh...I guess you don't- " she stopped the sentence for a more dramatic effect as she gave him a forced smile ,which was hard considering she actually wanted to . " I guess I have been a bit ... too much. Sorry, I um..I didn't notice how uncomfortable I made you feel.."
Her tone was more disappointed than sad, as if she had comes to terms with what occurred. Now all she needs to do is wait for him to accept her apology, and she can excuse herself out and avoid him like the plague. She felt giddy just thinking about it.

Totally an Accident, Honest!
Noah's eyes widened a bit at her response and his mouth was kind of slightly open now, as he stood completely still, not walking anymore and just giving her a sideways glance while thinking it all over.
What was that weird thing he was feeling? There was something wrong with her, whatever she had said had made him feel really weird, there was an odd heavy feeling in his chest, but that wasn't even possible, feelings don't actually have physical effects, then what the hell was going on? Perhaps she was trying to kill him?
Noah had no idea what was going on but now that he looked at the girl, he kind of felt bad for her... what if everything she had so far wasn't because something was fishy, it was because she wanted to befriend him and she was just trying to make him happy? God, that was obvious.
But how should he tell her that? But didn't she lie though? That was bad right? God, people were unnecessarily confusing, couldn't she do things normally... like maybe just have asked him if he would like to be her fri...
Oh, wait.
Noah felt bad in a weird way, was she sad now? Because he didn't realise it earlier? It was his fault, she was trying to talk to him a lot and he kept ignoring her but she kept trying
And it would be good to have a friend? Noah didn't want to get distracted but... he wouldn't mind having someone around either. It felt weird being the only one working all alone. Of course he wouldn't hang out with her all the time or anything, he could just be a casual friend or whatever? Just to make her happy, obviously.
But then again, how was he going to tell her any of that? He lowered his gaze a bit, looking at nothing in particular, he felt nervous all of a sudden, it was like his thought process had a 180 in the past few minutes.
"No, it's okay... I just need to know, a lot of what you said today wasn't true... Why are you really trying to talk to me? Do you want something from me? Or did you just say all of that just to be my friend?"
It was one of those moments in life where Noah wished he could have sunken into the ground, he didn't even want to hear her answer anymore, it just felt so weird, why did he even say anything at all?

Totally an Accident, Honest!
It took a while for her to notice Page's sudden halt, but when she did, she only turned towards him , not making an effort to come closer. She opened her mouth and let a useless joke out until he said something that made Fumiko froze.
" what " that was directed to the fact that he knew about her lying. He's one of the smartest kids in class so that makes sense, but she knew she was a better actor than that. When did her skills falter?
Did her acting get rusty? Was she being too nice? Did he just have that level of intelligence?
Was it when she told him she wanted to be her friend? The only time her acting failed was when she decided that she couldn't do it to someone she likes . Was that it? Despite all the bland replies and all the ' throw him out the window ' fantasies she imagined, her mind decided Page never deserved all this?
All this fake kindness?
She only reason she talked to him was to make herself more popular. So far he'd done a great job at annoying her so she couldn't understand her urge to get out of the boy's life quickly. Was if because he was difficult? Or was it because she didn't feel comfortable faking kindness to someone who never deserved it. Despite all those damn replies, if you could call it that.
And now when she tried to release him from this he decided to say something like that? Honestly, transfigurations sounded easier than understanding him. One minute he didn't like talking to her, the next he seems bothered when she didn't?
" I mean, being friends with you would be interesting " she didn't know if she was lying or not, but she noticed a second too late that she wasn't smiling.
She didn't use that award winning smile she used to get people to believe her. Despite that, that was probably the most honest sentence she ever said to Page.
Wow she really needed to get out of his sight. She didn't even disagree with the fact that she sprouted out lies.
" I don't like forcing anything. Even if I get along with a lot of people, I can understand if someone doesn't feel the same way. No one gets along with everyone . Humans are way to complex " she smiled weakly, before letting out a sigh.
" So~ is there anything you wanted to say before we go our separate ways?~ " she sounded way too happy. It was hard concealing her disappointment, the disappointment she didn't want to acknowledge.
She's only doing this because Page was difficult to befriend with. Thats it.

Totally an Accident, Honest!
Noah was getting anxious waiting for her answer, he had honestly no idea how she was going to respond, was she going to be angry at him for not having noticed whatever she was trying to do so far? Or was she still going to try and befriend him? It was getting more and more confusing for him, what was he even trying to do anymore?
Noah's head tilted even so slightly but without him even meaning to when she said that it would be interesting to be friends with him, what on Earth did she mean by "interesting"? It sounded like an unusual thing to say, but he wasn't exactly the best guy to know about friends so he couldn't even judge it much. He just stayed silent and narrowed his eyes slightly to show that he was simply thinking.
For some reason, she seemed different all of a sudden, she didn't feel annoying anymore, like some kind of animal that couldn't shut up and had to say something for the sake of it no matter. She felt like a normal human talking about what was going on in their head.
Her next sentence especially resonated a lot with him, he could surely understand what she meant by that, certain people just weren't meant to be friends, and humans were way too complex, it was difficult to say anything about them, honestly.
But before he could reply to that, she said that they were parting ways and Noah was honestly kind of shocked but it didn't show much except for the way his eyes narrowed and the frown he had for a split second.
So now she didn't want to by friends? She spent all that time trying to get him to talk to her and now that he was trying, she didn't want to? Honestly, what was she trying to do even? He'd rather be in potions than try to understand her.
He didn't let his shock show though, he spoke in his usual calm and indifferent voice when he replied, deciding the best way to hold her interest would be to get her into a conversation rather than showing that he wouldn't mind being friends with her by begging, that would be embarrassing.
"Hm, so if you think humans are complex, then how do you come so fast to the conclusion that we won't get along well? Isn't that probably complex too?"

Totally an Accident, Honest!
She held up her right hand, using the other to lightly push the fingers out one by one.
" One, personalities seem a bit too contrasted "
' This is the first time I met someone as dull as you ' her eyes said, but no sound came out.
" Two - " she paused.
" Ah..two...two..." her words trailed off as her mind raced to find the second reason. All she could think of was obvious differences like their houses or hair color. Basically nothing that even matters when it comes to the art of getting along.
This would just result in making her look stupid. It was a daily ritual for Fumiko to look stupid, but this involved relationships. A topic she took seriously despite how much of an airhead and carefree she.
She didn't like Page but she would never come off as that close-minded.
Knowing full well that she could not give that second reason, she took the easy way out.
Curling back her fingers into her palm, she showed a cheeky grin. Her expression changed drastically from her previous blank one as if she was now another persona.
" Hmm~ do you have reasons to think otherwise? Do you perhaps...want to ..." by now she stood right in front of Noah. Grateful for how empty their area was, she slightly tiptoed to
" Be friends with me ~ ?" an innocent enough question anyone could answer if you didn't take into consideration how she whispered as if it were a question that shouldn't be asked and how she was barely a few inches away from Page's face to the point he could surely smell at least a bit of the crispy honey-scented shampoo she used this morning.
Anyone who saw this scene would know that's not how you ask someone to be your friend.
If he could tolerate her when she acted like a blabbermouth, this would definitely scare him off. Page didn't look like he appreciates a little casual flirt and it'll just make it easier for her to act innocently dumb about it if he freaks out. Hell, it was funny how she tried hard not to scare him just a few minutes ago.
After a few seconds of silence and observing his rather cute face, she sent another smile, different than the ones she used today.
This one looked childishly innocent enough, her features highlighting that adorableness. It was just the teasing look she gave that didn't fit her innocent face. Odd, almost wrong to think about if it was on the face of an adorable eleven-year-old.
Hypocritical of her to say she takes relationships seriously but casually uses this tactic to get what she wanted, especially from people her age.
And right now she wants him gone.
While she barely budged, for a second it was clear her mind wasn't focused on Noah's reaction. Instead, she pondered again why she was going through such lengths for him to leave. She forced herself to focus back onto the Slytherin the next second, her coy aura coming back.

Totally an Accident, Honest!
Noah patiently listened to her trying to reason this out, maybe a little curious. And when she did answer it, Noah couldn't help but agree, though he did feel slightly sad, he wasn't sure why but the fact that someone had tried to befriend him kinda felt nice and they were disappointed now, but that's just how things are so Noah wasn't going to argue it.
He waited on as she tried to say the second reason, realising that she maybe didn't know him well enough to know another reason yet. He honestly just wanted to say that it was whatever and he didn't really care much anyway but that's when he felt something change, he didn't know why but her expression and behaviour seemed different.
He felt slightly uncomfortable about how much she was intruding his personal space and felt a few hairs going stiff but he tried not to show it, looking at her straight into her eyes as if this was perfectly normal, he did not know what she was playing at but he knew she was no threat to him.
He realised there was something awfully malicious about what she said, it sounded like a nice thing to say but for some reason it sounded wrong, almost sarcastic. Noah wasn't sure what to say, he was too stunned and was just trying to keep his breaths steady and not look away, his brain rushing to find answers to her question, how was he supposed to answer that?
Well, do you want to be friends with her?
How was he supposed to know that? He took a deep breath as he saw a playful look in her eyes, was this some sort of game? It didn't look evil, it was like the glance a kid would give to a rival or something, what was she trying to achieve? Couldn't she just let him go or something? This was unnecessary...
He diverted his gaze ever so slightly because he couldn't possibly look into her eyes and keep talking, he was painfully uncomfortable at that moment, "Well, I wouldn't mind being friends with you but I think you're the one who doesn't really know what you're trying to do here, you keep switching your mood and it's rather confusing." He said, in his usual monotone voice as if this was casual and normal to him while dying inside, he wanted to tell her to back off but he somehow stood his ground throughout the sentence.

Whatever Page said had struck her straight through her heart, she could almost feel the sharp pain from the impact. Once again, she drastically changed.
She took a step back, shoulders visibly slumped and eyes now void of the previous playfulness that shone before. The stare was so blank that it rivaled Page's own. This is what happens when all you've been hearing from people are compliments and praises.
It took a while for her brain to process anything after that but once it did, her expressions changed so expressively that it gave off whatever was going on in her head.
How Page continued to be unfazed by her actions yet again were outrageous! How bland and socially inexperienced does one need to be, to give the same responses as a robot. Not to mention how casually pointed out her mood changes.
' It's your damn fault it changes so much, idiot! ' her face screamed.
The next, her face turned slightly red from blush. Countless of people lined up to offer their friendship to her, which she accepted gladly with a smile bigger than her genuineness. But somehow when that flew out of Page's mouth, the only thing she could think of was, why?
She was slightly touched by his response but at the same time looked at him like he had two heads. How absurd. Who would ever be okay with offering friendship to her after all she had done to him.
After those confusing flurries of emotions and lively expressions, she took a deep breath and tried to look composed. No one could look composed after childishly revealing their emotions like that but acting comes handy at times like this.
" Well, excuse my mood swings " her tone slightly salty. Petty she may be, he had wounded her pride and that was almost unforgivable. " You kept tolerating with all of them. You're litterally the most patient person I have ever meet" It was a compliment but the way she made it sound like a terrible insult.
If he tolerated with her till this moment, surely...this time surely he would be at least have seconds thoughts about befriending her.
She unconsciously let out a disappointed sigh.
" Who in their right mind would be friends with someone after seeing all that? Honestly, I'm worri- " she paused. The words just came out so naturally that it scared her.
How could she be worried about Page? After all the hits he made at her ego! She let out a fake cough and muttered out " A- anyway, I don't think I'll be that fun to hang around with anyway " she dismissed, tints of red had come back to her cheeks as she tried to look anywhere but Page's eyes.

Totally an Accident, Honest!
Noah wasn't sure how he should react to her reaction, it was as if he had literally slapped her face or something. He just stared at her confused and slightly concerned but decided to stay silent till she got the ability to speak again, perhaps she wasn't entirely sure what she was doing either?
A few seconds later she seemed to have gotten her senes back, fortunately, and decided to speak up. Noah still had no idea what was going on and was more confused than he had ever been.
Noah knew it sounded like an insult, it was painfully obvious and couldn't be mistaken as anything else. But if she was trying to insult him, then that didn't mean he should do the same, she had done nothing but been nice to him so he decided to take it as a compliment and muttered, "Uh, thanks." in a loud enough voice.
The more he tried to figure out what she was trying to do, the more confused he felt, was she simply shy or was just trying to be friends with him and gave up? And what was he supposed to do about it anyway?
"Well if you find me boring then there is not a lot I can do about that. You were the one who decided to try and talk to me, it was not my decision to try and befriend you so whatever, really." He said, making sure to pick his words a bit carefully, he didn't want another few seconds of awkard silence
