Bridget & Thora vs. Illowy & Alexx
Welcome everyone to the second Pair Match. These places were offered to Slytherin students, who won the house cup in the month of June.
As you know, the duelling system has been in the works for a while now. Today, we will be testing out the next stage: how it works with races, abilities and pairs.
Your duellists today are @Bridget Collins & @Thora Larkston versus @Illowy Magnard & @Alexx Séverin. Yes, this duel will be 2 vs. 2.
Please also welcome @Artemis Vernatis, who will moderate the match.

The roundThe Spell DC for this test is:
First Year - 10
Second Year - 12
Third Year - 14
Artemis stood in the middle of the dueling podium, twirling his wand around his fingers as if he were a young student yet again. He carried a smirk on his lips as the students who would be spectators stood around waiting and talking among themselves in excitement. The Charms professor was excited himself, though he was more adept at keeping that excitement at bay. This would be his very first time moderating a duel, after all.
Though it wouldn't be his first duel. He was sure it wouldn't be his last duel either.
Artemis looked toward the door where the participants would enter from and received a signal from one of the older students he allowed to be his assistant for the day. The 2 teams were ready and so were the spectators. Standing up straight, Artemis touched his wand to his throat and cast the Amplifying Charm on himself before gesturing to one door.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to another spectacular day in the Dueling Club. Today, we have a unique duel between two groups within the Slytherin House. Team one will consist of @Bridget Collins and @Thora Larkston!" Artemis introduced the first team and waited for the clapping and cheering to subside before he nodded and held out his hand to the other door on the other side of the stage. "Team two will consist of @Illowy Magnard and @Alexx Séverin!" More cheers sounded and Artemis held up a hand after a brief applause and cheering ensued.
"I need not introduce myself, as most of you should know who I am by now, so I believe we should get this party started! Teams, your job is to magically defeat your opponents. Keep the dueling clean but make sure that you think and discuss with your teammate how you should proceed. Strategy is key in team dueling. You all know the rules so do not break them. You will automatically forfeit your right to finish this duel if you break this rule whatsoever."
Stepping away from the students to stand in the protective area with the spectators, Artemis raised his hand and lowered it swiftly. "Begin!"

Bridget & Thora vs. Illowy & Alexx
Thora stood awkwardly in the Duelling Club room, shifting back and forth on her feet and flipping her wand over in her hands. Although she clearly remembered signing up for duelling, she felt as if she was in a daze as she arrived in the fourth-floor room. Why was she here? Duelling was the near polar opposite of Thora's normally kind disposition, yet she found herself at the duelling club, running through a list of spells in her head.
Far faster than the redhead would've hoped, Professor Vernatis, the Charms Professor, took center stage and introduced himself as the moderator of the match. Apparently drama was needed in the duelling process, as Thora and her teammate, Bridget, were forced to enter onto the stage through a door off to the right side of the stage. The auburn-headed girl pasted a nervous smile onto her face and strode onto the stage, legs shaking.
As Professor Vernatis read over the extensive list of rules, the second-year forced herself to take deep breaths. She shot a smile at Bridget Collins--a girl she had met only twice, and her duelling partner. They obviously didn't know each other well, but Thora hoped they could work together well. As both girls--Thora and Bridget--had limited knowledge as new second years, Thora didn't necessarily expect to win. But all of the girls duelling were Slytherins, best known for determination and wit. This match would be intersting...Although Thora wanted more time to prepare mentally, she knew the word would come.
"Begin." the Professor commanded the four girls upon the stage. After freezing a moment with a heavy dose of stage fright, Thora sprang into action. Trying to think fast on her feet, she fired a quick spell, taking care to pronounce each word carefully. She didn't want to learn her lesson the hard way. Hopefully--hopefully, it would hit.
The redhead moved her wand in the shape of a teardrop, roughly in the direction of Illowy--another second year.
"Mucus ad Nauseam!" Thora shouted, trying to steady her voice.Action: Cast Curse of the Bogies (Mucus ad Nauseam) at Illowy Magnard

Bridget & Thora vs. Illowy & Alexx
When sign ups had first come out, Illowy hadn't wasted a bit of time making sure her name was on the list. Dueling was something she'd been looking forward to participating in since the day she'd gotten her letter, wanting to take another step in her mother's shoes from when she was a student. However, she was certainly surprised to be partnered up for this duel, especially with a girl she was sure she'd never said two words to before today. Not that she was worried. Her partner was a third year and appeared to have a fairly level head; and with their abilities combined, Illowy had plenty of confidence in this match.
She listened closely through the door as Professor Vernatis introduced the the first team; then on their queue, Illowy and her own partner followed suit from the opposite side of the stage. This was the moment Illowy decide to take account of how the other pair of Slytherins were presenting themselves. Thora was the one to catch her eye with how terribly nervous the girl seemed to be. Surely the poor girl realized this had been a voluntary match.
No more time to think about that. Illowy made a motion as though to tuck some hair behind her ear, though today she opted to have it clipped back and out of her face with a silky bow clip. Her mayhaw wand twirled through her fingers effortlessly as her eyes flicked to her partner, offering a small smile before movement caught her eye.
Nervous Nellie seemed to finally get her wit about her as the girl moved her wand. The twirling of Illowy's own wand came to an abrupt stop as she lifted the tool to swiftly trace in the air; and with a flick of her wrist, the girl spoke with confidence, "Flippendo!" she hoped that Thora's nerves would get the best of the herself and that in turn it would effect the redhead's magic before striking the brunette. After all, Illowy wasn't one to get sick, and she certainly didn't plan to start the habit today.

Bridget & Thora vs. Illowy & Alexx
To be entirely fair, Alexx didn't know what she was doing here. She liked Quidditch, not Duelling. However, ever the attention seeker, as well as someone who throws themselves into every position necessary to achieve, Alexx simply could not resist putting herself in this spot. She was cocky, and probably a bit too much for her own good.
She was confident, and held herself as such. Chin high, eyes narrowed, eyebrows at ease. Her shoulders were back, aligned with her hips, back completely straight. Alexx held the perfect posture, and looked beyond sure of herself. She was a mixture of elegance as well as determination. She was a snake in the garden.
Professor Vernatis was absolutely the last person who she wanted to be overseeing this duel. She was still embarassed about her behavior of last time, so this really wasn't much better. If she were to embarass herself at all, especially if she were to not succeed, then that would only distance her more from the professor. She would have much preferred if Taco Bell guy were the one watching over, or perhaps the ever-eccentric Olphie B. Anyone but this particular professor.
Finally deciding that she couldn't change it, she decided that it was time. Stepping up, nodding as she was announced, she listened to what the man had to say, and then noting his call of, "Begin."
It was time.
Who could she go after first? Her eyes landed on Bridget. These poor girls were up against someone older than them! That didn't seem fair, but since when did Alexx care about "fair"? She smirked, hoping that it would disguise her fear of missing.
Her wrist flicked itself in the long, swirling motion that she had been taught during her second year. "Expelliarmus!" She declared, aiming at Bridget. If she could do this- if she could get Bridget without a wand- she could kick her when she was down. She just had to pray to someone, whatever God was listening, that she didn't get hit.

Bridget & Thora vs. Illowy & Alexx
Bridget's face was impassive as she stepped onto the dueling stage. Sure, her stomach was doing flips as people were about to attack her with spells. Why had she signed up for dueling? Honestly, Bridget wasn't entirely sure. Maybe it was her ambitious Slytherin nature, or perhaps a desire to prove herself. Hopefully the duel would increase her confidence.
Regardless, she was here. Her partner, Thora Larkston, a nice girl in her year she'd met a few times, looked almost ready to pass out from nerves. Bridget gave her the ghost of an encouraging smile back, now directing her focus to Professor Vernatis, who would be moderating the match.
She gave a quick bow to the opposing team, a third year girl announced as Alexx Séverin and a girl in her year named Illowy Magnard. This would be a tough match, as Alexx was a year older and Illowy was always on the top end of the class. However, Bridget and Thora did well in classes too. Were they likely to win? Probably not, but Bridget wasn't going be defeated before she actually lost.
Holding her laurel wood wand out in front of her in her dominant left hand, Bridget's mind quickly decided what to do. She would aim for Alexx because if her and Thora wanted to win, they'd have to take out the bigger threat.
Moving her wand in the shape of a candle flame, Bridget said "Incendio!" After all, with a teacher on hand flames couldn't do real damage to anyone, and besides, Bridget already knew the counter-spell, so Alexx surely did. Her hazel eyes stared her opponents down. As of right now, they certainly weren't friends, and Bridget was determined to prove herself.

First Year - 10

Artemis watched from behind the protective barrier as the four girls each sent a spell at one another. It was an interesting combination of attacks and the Charms professor was impressed. He watched as Miss @Alexx Séverin successfully cast a disarming spell at Miss @Bridget Collins , but unfortunately it missed its target and the third year Slytherin was then set on fire by the second year as she cast Incendio at the older girl and he cringed.
"That's going to smart. Let's pray that she knows how to stop, drop, and roll," the man muttered to himself, thankful that his words couldn't be heard over the loud cheering of the spectators. He and the third year didn't really end their meeting on good terms last semester and he didn't quite fancy being on her bad side anymore than he already was. And to be hit with a spell by a younger class man, Artemis had to wonder if the older girl was feeling a burn to her pride and not just to her physical body.
Turning to the other two girls, Artemis noticed that Miss @Illowy Magnard was sniffling quite frequently and remembered that Miss @Thora Larkston had cast the Curse of the Bogies upon the girl. She wouldn't be able to get rid of that nasty cold inducing spell. Not unless she passed out and was taken to the hospital wing or she happened to have a potion to cure it. The other possibility is to have the spell nullified, but he wasn't sure if the girl knew the counter spell to Mucus ad Nauseam. Her Flippendo didn't work against the smaller girl she chose to focus on either. The four girls truly were giving their all in this battle. He watched the girls from team one still manage to dodge the attacks aimed at them- even after their normal agility that normally gave them a head start had failed them- and smirked as the four girls continued their duel.

Bridget & Thora vs. Illowy & Alexx
Hit. She was bloody hit with Thora's bogies curse. Illowy had never wanted to kick herself as badly as she did in that moment as her nose started running, and also for the fact that in spite of her spell succeeding in being cast, the damned thing didn't hit its target. The Irish girl sniffled a bit and tried to suppress the need to sneeze... at least for now. She knew that would be a battle quickly lost as the spell went on. Just as well, to her side she could see her partner was hit as well with Incendio. Cold eyes flashed to the witch who had casted it. From her expression, she wondered if the girl was aware that this wasn't play fighting. This was real magic with real consequences. It wasn't a silly game, it was a duel.
Illowy pushed the thoughts aside. She hoped her partner was wise enough as a third year how to put herself out. Not that she wasn't prepared to help the girl if it went too far. However, at this moment, it was too early in the match to loose focus now. Her eyes came back to her initial target, Thora. Illowy needed to knock her down, at least before her accuracy was completely thrown off; after all, she didn't quite know the counter for the bogies curse, only made more evident as a reluctant sneeze escaped her as she hid her face in her sleeve to sneeze.
That only stoked her frustration. Calm, collected, and quite annoyed, Illowy raise her wand once more at the red head, "Incendio!" she casted.

Bridget & Thora vs. Illowy & Alexx
Fire. Alexx was on fire. How had this managed to happen? Someone, a year younger than her, no less, was already kicking her ass in a duel? This was simply unacceptable. She needed time. Lots of time. She could stand to extinguish herself later. Her best bet, right now, was getting them blind.
She cringed as she raised her arm again, not yet ready to make the right decision. "Extinguo!" She announced, hoping this could at least work. At the last minute, she turned her wand back onto herself, making an attempt to save herself. It wouldn't buy her any time, and she'd better hope that she could bring it back after this round, otherwise, she was fucked.
How badly she had wanted to cast something else! Get them off of their guard! But she had to try and take care of herself first. So far, she was lucky with successful spell casts. But if one of these little kids tried to hit her with it again... Oh boy, would Alexx be mad!

Bridget & Thora vs. Illowy & Alexx
Her spell hit! The redhead was good at charms, so she had hoped for a successful casting. As the green light hit the other second year, Thora's confidence was boosted. She was done with being nervous. Steely determination washed over the redhead's face, giving it a sharper look.
"Incendio!" she heard the Irish girl opposite of her say, through sniffles and sneezes. Oh no, not fire... she thought. Observing Alexx, the third year, who had been hit by Bridget's Incendio, the results did not look good.
So, Illowy wanted to go after Thora again. Fine. The redhead would be more than happy to do the same. Pointing her aspen wand at the girl across from her, she yelled, "Rictusempra!"
