· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·One would think that a Quidditch player such as Koko, one who had historically struggled with spells, would not play around in the duelling club. Doing so had to be asking to be humiliated, something someone as prideful as Koko clearly would not like. However, there was no growth in mediocrity, no growth in accepting the status quo. As painful as it was, she found herself frequenting the duelling club more and more often now, forcing herself to improve, practising against dummy after dummy.
Perhaps part of the fun of it was getting to satiate the bubbling rage that followed her around. If it felt as if it were going to fizz over, she would just toss a shitty flipendo at a dummy and go on with her day. Bar her recent haircut, she figured her coping mechanisms were pretty healthy. After all, she was a witch. She really ought to be at least passable at spells, and at least she wasn't taking her anger out on anyone with a bludger. She reckoned that would be worse.
She'd reached out to some lower years to ask if they wanted someone to practise with. Koko wasn't really that good at spells in themselves, but if she could keep going after a lot of spells, she imagined she would be able to keep going for longer during Quidditch, a rather admirable trait. And, of course, she could train her targeting skills; younger students were usually smaller and faster, after all.

AEIOUSAPrat couldn't resist the challenge presented before him, the opportunity to escape his own recent slump. He'd been feeling out of sorts, almost all his spells either kept missing or failing. He wondered if maybe a friendly bout with someone who wasn't an immediate threat to him or had any stakes in it could help him regain his focus. He had a lot to think about before making his decision. He weighed the potential for embarrassment against his chance to pinpoint the flaws in his actions. He approached her with his wand in hand. Eager to see if sparring with the Seventh year could provide him the possible breakthrough he was seeking.
As he entered the duelling club, He cast a quick look around the room, spotting Koko and Raizel already waiting there. To him they appeared as ready as he was. Yet somewhere in the back of his mind he couldn't help but feel a twinge of doubt at his actions. He wasn't sure if this was a whim or a calculated risk. He took a deep breath, holstered(?) his wand, and greeted them "Hello, Koko. Hello, Rai. Ready to see this done?" His mind already racing as he awaited their response, running on full speed to think about all the spells and counters that might be thrown today.

❂《 ⌜ December 22, 2024 ▎ Sunday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔It feels like Raizel had gone back to the good old days where she just spends most of her time hanging around the duelling club when she thought she had gotten over it, preferring to practice outside to get used to riding a broom. In the end, her final stop had always been here aside from a few situations where she needed to get herself checked in the hospital wing due to a couple of flying mishaps.
Still, she was far from her old self where she has the habit of duelling anyone she sees, even if they are a couple of years older than her. Heck, if she could, she would ask a professor to duel her just for the experience and maybe get a couple of pointers when it comes to fighting using spells. Sadly, that dream of hers might not come true but then again, perhaps she could just ask them for any tips regarding that, even if they might not end up duelling. Tips would be nice, anything would be nice as long as they are something that’ll help her reach the heights that she’s seeking, to grow stronger than this current state of hers.
She had been practicing hard, training hard even though the results aren’t exactly visible right now. Well, she did find out that her body has its own limit and doesn’t like getting overworked so she has to keep that in mind as well. Anyway, that was her plan, to keep training but this time, she had other plans. People call her the crazy one when she was asking any people to duel her before but it seems like Prat is doing the same things that she had before and that’s to face challenges head on, even if it might seem impossible. Perhaps that’s what drew her interest in him and why she would just agree to watch over his duels if he happened to find someone to duel with and it sure reminds her of her old days.
Does that make her want to start her duelling streak again? Maybe. She tried and nothing changed, she’s still as bad as before or even worse so maybe after whipping herself back to shape then she’ll start it once again. She is on her quest to get stronger so she’ll definitely go back to it at some point. Right now though, she’s just gonna be an observer. You can learn things while watching, so that’ll work. She agreed to be the mod for this duel once it was settled between the two duellists, taking her position on the piste. She needs to get used to doing this anyway, this is one of her responsibilities as a Duelling Co-Captain.
She let her mind wander off to let the two talk or maybe interact with each other if they wanted to while also waiting for them to be ready and once they were, the duel had officially started. Spells were fired, Prat opening up with a Metelojinx, sending a storm cloud just above Koko’s head while Koko went on the offensive. She winced at the sound of impact, seeing how the spell just hit Prat. That’s gotta hurt surely but one thing she had learned in all her days of duelling, it helps increase your pain tolerance so perhaps Prat had a high one already with all that duelling he’s been doing. She does hope he does well on this but she can’t help but wonder what tricks Koko has in her sleeves.

· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·Koko recognised Prat from when she had moderated his duel against Alyssea. She nodded at him in greeting, her ever-present soft smile gracing her features as he greeted her and Raizel, who had agreed to moderate. 'Hello to you both. Let's get this started.'
As she was rarely so blunt and to the point, it was perhaps obvious that she was itching for something—be that adrenaline, power, victory, she did not know. Whatever it was, she wanted it—but she did not truly know what she wanted these days, let alone how to get it. That was the most excruciating part of it all, not knowing, not understanding.
She'd never been good at spellwork. It couldn't be her wand's fault, what with aspen wands usually being duellists' wands; no, any faulty duelling was a folly of her own. With that in mind, she settled on a tried-and-true failsafe: flipendo. She'd have to be a true failure to get that one wrong. 'Flipendo,' she incanted, and then came the easy part. The spell went exactly where she wanted to go; despite a dodge from Prat that she thought was pretty decent, especially given his year, the spell hit its target.
Koko's smile hardened, but faded slightly when she realised the meteolojinx cloud above her. An interesting choice, really. This would be fun, she decided, and she couldn't wait to see if the cloud truly did its job.· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·

AEIOUSAPrat's heart thundered in his chest as he took in the sight of Koko's flipendo rushing towards him. The tip of her wand still pointing his way. She had an air of confidence, one Prat lacked. This only made him feel more anxious when their duel began. He'd seen her in action before, during that duel of his with Alyssea. He wasn't able to gauge her skill back then, but clearly she knew what she was doing. The moment she opened her mouth to speak the incantation, Prat knew he had no way of dodging it this late, yet his baser human instincts kept him going as he threw himself into a dodge. The world around him slowed down for a moment before he felt the inevitable impact of Flipendo.
As Prat's body flew backward from the force of Koko's flipendo, his thoughts raced even faster than his actions. His metelojinx cast had been successful, with the cloud now hovering above her. A silent spectator to the unfolding massacre. He hoped that by casting metelojinx, he could at least throw a potential wrench in what on paper might appear as an easy win for Koko. What he hadn't anticipated however was the sheer skill in aiming behind her spell. The impact from flipendo sent him flying across the floor, his robes following behind him as he hit ground soon. Grunting in pain, feeling the shallow bruises already appearing on his side. 'How do i always end up like this,' he thought to himself. He wasn't about to let his slim chances of winning work as a catalyst into demotivating him. This was his time to adapt, to think on his feet. Even if it had been several feet off the ground few moments ago.

❂《 ⌜ December 22, 2024 ▎ Sunday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔A part of her was expecting for the second round to go slow as that’s what seems to be the case in most duels that she participated in and moderated so she was surprised when the second round was full of action and only one spell missed its mark.
What can she expect from a 7th year and despite being someone who’s main sport isn’t duelling, Koko had proven herself that she’s a talented witch. Precise movements brought by her own experience of being at Hogwarts for seven years now and perhaps some of those came from somewhere else like maybe those dangerous balls or any event related to Hogwarts. Surely Koko had seen her own horrors. Aside from that perfect gesture, her voice was clear in saying the incantation. It rewarded her with a perfectly casted Rictusempra and it has no intention of missing its target.
Prat should’ve seen it coming, but he was given no time to react. That is how it goes in duelling. You need to act fast, faster than your opponent not just in terms of spellcasting but also in terms of dodging. One wrong move or in this case, a late reaction can result in a painful end. Raizel winced as the spell hit and soon enough, laughter filled the air as the effect of the tickling charm quickly took hold of the poor Slytherin boy.
Prat’s own attempt to cast was successful earlier though not as powerful as Koko’s but it was still so close to perfection. So powerful that it was a shame that it just went past the seventh year without causing any damage, dissipating into nothing in the end. The storm cloud above wasn’t on his side either for when it struck, Koko had already moved out of its way, completely missing her. Looking at how things are, Prat was starting to look tired and that’s just after taking two spells but he still has fight in him. She knows because she had seen herself in a similar situation and Prat is not one to back down despite the odds against him. Truly someone that reminded her of herself. Doesn’t that just make you want to root for him? “Oi! Still have some fight left in you, keep going!” She tried to cheer for him and then looked over at Koko and giving her a thumbs up, just to say she is doing great herself.

AEIOUSAPrat's mind raced as the tickling charm wrapped around him. He couldn't help fail to hold back a chuckle amidst the chaos of the duel. Considering them as the effect of his own inadequacy. Prat had to admit, this was sort of his own fault, Koko was a force to be reckoned with. She was quick, precise, and unsurprisingly light on her feet. Just as you would expect from a seventh year of her caliber. His earlier spell had come so close with it's cast. Yet it strayed away from her, the universe had plans of it's own. His spell danced around her and then vanished into the ether. The storm cloud above which had been his backup, his ally. The silent protector watching over, poised to strike, had chosen the wrong moment for itself. Its fury too late to aid him. Prat's muscles burned with fatigue in just two measly rounds. Yet the fire of determination in his eyes was unquenchable.
Through the tickling charm's aftereffect, Prat managed to push himself back to his feet. He gulped down a lungful of air, the chuckles not looking to subsidize anytime soon. He glanced over at Rai, her encouraging thumbs up resonating with him. It was a nice gesture, perhaps not the best time for it but he returned her gesture with a thumbs up of his own.

· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·What Koko had not expected from this little practice duel was for her spellwork to exceed her own expectations. Although low, those expectations were not simply a tripwire on the metaphorical floor to neatly step over. Perhaps it was that she stuck to lower-year spells, thing she was comfortable with, but when she waved her wand and incanted, 'Rictusempra,' it was perfect.
The thought sent a shiver through her, something akin to a giddy rush of glee, and, now bouncing on the balls of her feet, she stepped out of the way of Prat's Incendio Duo. That would have hurt, had it landed, but it seemed that luck was on her side today. It felt good, really good. Perfection was what she should have expected from herself—it was the expectation everywhere else in her life, why not on the duelling piste, too? Nonetheless, she felt as stab of compassion for Prat. Seeing the younger kid doubled over with tickles after being thrown about by a Flipendo was not necessarily a joyous sight.
Koko stretched, arms reaching upwards as she pushed her shoulders back until she felt a nice, satisfying pop in her spine. She hadn't lost her smile as long as the duel had been going on, and still it would remain, although there was a sharper quality to her expression now than there had been before.
Given that Raizel was encouraging Prat, Koko felt no need to do so herself, but she did acknowledge Raizel's thumbs-up towards her with a jerk of a nod and a slight lopsidedness to her grin, which would school itself back into its intended easygoing appearance shortly after.· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·

❂《 ⌜ December 22, 2024 ▎ Sunday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Getting tickled while casting and aiming is a situation that Raizel wouldn’t want herself to be in. She had been in similar situations and she would say she didn’t have a great time during those times. When she thought things couldn’t get any worse… well, it just did, for Prat at least. He did well to contain that tickling sensation, managing to shoot out what seems to be a Spongify although it didn’t look as amazing as his previous spell but it was still a successful cast. Unfortunately, much like the rest of his previous spells, it hit nothing but the air where Koko once stood.
She was quick on her feet when she avoided that spell, her reaction time was top notch. Koko isn’t that shy to show her experiences and in a way, Raizel would prefer that, especially if she was the one up against her. Even if she knew she would lose, she’d rather face someone giving it their all than them pulling their punches. Following up that quick and graceful dodge was a spell of her own and something that she wasn’t that unfamiliar with, Tongue Tying spell. That weird and uncomfortable sensation of your tongue twisting and tying itself would soon take hold. Just imagining is sending shivers down her spine.
“Uh…” That would mean Prat will be unable to cast any spells until it wears off unless he has that secret skill of doing non-verbal magic. That would be awesome to see. “Hang in there!” That was all she could say. Maybe not a great choice if she was continuing in giving him encouragement but better than nothing right?

Nothing, Koko thought, could explain her above-average performance in this duel. She almost felt bad for duelling Prat — he was so much younger than her, and sure, duelling her wasn't anything like duelling Ruby or Dmitri or any other seasoned duellist, but she still had some semblance of experience, apparently.
The idea was to be kind when she murmured, 'Mimblewimble.' To not cause damage. But perhaps no good deed was what good intentions created. After the spell hit its target, Koko's resolve almost faltered, but she did recall that Prat was a duellist in his own right, and with speed she didn't know she possessed, she side-stepped his spell. It probably would have hurt, she thought, blinking. And, of course, the cloud above her... did nothing.
This was simply weird. As good as it felt to be winning, there was something cheap about securing a victory from someone so much younger than her, especially when she was... not a duellist, not at all, had never been good at duelling anyway. It was just weird.
She made eye contact with Prat and smiled, hopefully reassuringly. 'Your spells look powerful,' she said, regretting it shortly after speaking. If she were him, she didn't think she'd appreciate being talked to. The tips of Koko's ears reddened slightly in what was likely embarrassment or even shame.· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·
