December 4, Courtyard, before lunch
Avis quickly slipped out of her morning class. It was a chilly winter day, one where the drafty castle barely managed to keep itself warm, and yet somehow it did. The cloaks that they wore as uniforms helped, though. Avis was as neat as ever, though to her immense dismay, the streaks in her hair were beginning to fade slightly. She would have to redye them over Christmas break. Avis smiled a bit at the thought of going home over break, and she was sure her sister was just as excited for her to come home.

Confidently, she headed down the cobblestone corridor, ignoring the paintings as she passed. Her flats slipped quietly over the floor, the soft patter drowned out by the loud boots of fellow students as they made their way to lunch, discussing everything from History to DADA and everything in between. Avis hovered in the back of the crowd, before slipping away as they reached the ground floor, excusing herself from the Gryffindor she had been making small talk with.

With a quick glance back to make sure no one was following her, Avis pulled a midnight turquoise beanie out of her satchel before exiting into the icy courtyard, pulling it on her head in a vain attempt to counteract the Scottish winter.

She briefly looked into her satchel, wondering if she should pull out her winter cloak, but decided against it. After all, hopefully they would be going back inside shortly.

After a quick scan of the courtyard confirmed that Sabrina was not yet there, Avis leaned against the wall, pulling a caramel out of her satchel and popping it in her mouth as she crossed her arms and waited, glancing up at the cloudy grey sky and hoping whatever Sabrina had planned would be indoors.

One hand on the Robe of Warmth, thrown over her shoulder bag, as to keep it from slipping off, the other over her chullo-clad head for the exact same reason, Sabrina hurried through the corridors, earning a few bitter remarks from the bystanding portraits.

She got held up after Transfiguration class as one of her accomodating peers was kind enough to go over the process of transforming a snail into a teapot again - and much, much slower - with her. In the end, her teacups remained to be the same slimey material with tentacles sticking up from their rims, and the only thing she managed to do was waste her and the sweet student's time. And if that wasn't enough, she was now running late to meet with Avis.

Taking the last stairs two at a time, she finally made it to the grounds, sprinting out into the courtyard, she stumbled when finally coming to a stop. Panting, she bend over, hands settled over her knees to support herself as she tried to catch her breath. Feeling her cheeks burn, she looked around, spotting the familiar face of her partner in crime, leaning against the wall. Not wearing her winter cloak. Sabrina couldn't decide if it was more cool or stupid. Nevertheless, given her plan for today, she wasn't really one to judge.

"Sorry, I got a little held up," Sabrina managed to wheeze out, walking over to the other girl and rather unceremoniously leaning against the wall beside her, "what'cha chewing on?"

Sabrina, clearly, was in a very flustered mood as she zipped into the courtyard. Avis looked at her bare wrist as if it held a watch, slowly shaking her head in mock disappointment. "I almost thought you had forgotten about your own meeting. She offered the girl a wry grin. "Naturally, I would have been forced to declare myself the winner." She popped off the wall, rubbing her cold hands together, and turned to face Sabrina.

She watched Sabrina catch her breath for a moment, raising her eyebrows in slight curiosity, but not enough curiosity to actually ask. It wasn't that important, anyway. "what'cha chewing on?"

"Caramel. Do you want one?" Avis reached into her satchel for a small chewy caramel, offering it to Sabrina once it seemed she had caught her breath. Caramel was one of Avis' absolute favorite foods. Caramel, chocolate, and jerry-swari. A strange addition, but not to Avis. It would be a sad day if she ever needed braces. A very sad day indeed. Thankfully, Avis had not yet had to give up her caramels, and she normally had a few in her pockets or her bag. (It is, after all, quite difficult to carry around jerry-swari.) Caramel would have to do. At least until break.

The December wind (because it's cold in winter:) whipped across the courtyard, throwing Avis hair across her face until she dug into her satchel and pulled out a black hair tie. Ten of them, actually. Which was a bit much, considering. At least she had found her hair ties. Nine of which were placed back into a pocket, while the tenth was used to pull Avis' hair into a low, tight ponytail at the nape of her neck, hiding her fading streaks.

Sabrina scoffed, rolling her eyes, no real bite behind the gesture, her smile still plastered on her face.

"Naturally," she echoed, nodding slightly, folding her arms over her chest and turning so she was only leaning on her shoulder now, eyes sliding down to the other girl's hands where she was rubbing them. Her gaze flickered to her own robe, whipping lightly over her bag from the cold wind around them. She already had her winter cloak on, bringing the robe only as a back-up or to offer to Avis. Before she could do just that, the girl offered her a caramel.

"Yeah, thanks," she took it, plopping it into her mouth, almost choking on it instantly, covering her mouth with the back of her hand as to not spit it out as she cought. Today really seemed to not be her day. Still, she couldn't bring herself to be bitter about it, too excited for what was awaiting them. Speaking of..

"Shall we?" she smirked, pushing herself off the wall and offering Avis the crook of her bend arm, bowing slightly, as if offering her arm to a lady.

"Did you bring what I told you to?" she asked, raising her brows as Avis pulled out ten hair ties, tying her hair into a low ponytail - it was only now that she noticed that Avis' streaks were more faded than the last time she saw her, briefly wondering if the girl would show her how to dye her own hair, which was now braided into two french plaits, secured with pins at the sides.

"Want me to braid it for you?" she offered, gesturing to her wind-ruffled hair, slowly beggining to walk in their direction which was, of course, the Great Lake.

Oh, dear. Sabrina seemed to be choking on the caramel. That was unfortunate. Avis watched her closely as she coughed, in order to make sure the sort of choking didn't turn into an actually choking. She knew the Heimlich, but it wasn't as if she had ever done it before. Thankfully, Sabrina seemed perfectly capable of figuring it out herself.

"Shall we?" Avis turned away with an exaggerated haughty air of a spoiled rich girl. She held a hand up as if disgusted by the offer. "You insult me. I do not take the arm of just any gentleman. Not a lady of my status, no. Father shall hear about this." In case Sabrina didn't get the sarcasm, Avis shot her a quick wink.

"Did you bring what I told you to?" Avis sucked in a breath and pretended to think about it for a while. "Unless you told me to bring my charms book or caramels, I'm probably going to go with no... There's only so long I can suffer through handkerchiefs, I may or may not have missed it." On the bright side, at least she had the caramels. And whatever it was she might be missing, well, it was most certainly Avis' fault. Besides, how bad could it be?

As Sabrina headed towards the lake, Avis frowned. Welp. Who needed swimsuits anyway. She pulled her large cloak of warmth out of her (decidedly smaller) satchel, and threw it on as she skipped to catch up with Sabrina. It wasn't as if Avis was a child, skipping for fun. It wasn't even that she liked skipping. It was just that Avis had found the best way to catch up to someone was to skip, which took less energy than running. Yes, her choice to skip was purely logical. Purely logical.

Pulling up next to Sabrina, Avis slowed her gait to match the shorter girl. It was a relief, to finally talk to someone that was shorter than her. Honestly, it was like everyone at Hogwarts was half giant. Not including the actual half giants.

"Want me to braid it for you?" "No" It was short and curt. She most certainly did not. That would be like asking Sabrina to tie her shoes. No. Just no. Absolutely not.

Sabrina let out an exaggerated gasp at Avis' fierce rejection, slaming her open palm against her chest, slightly stumbling back as the back of her other hand slapped against her forehead.

"Oh how you wound me, Miss lady of a greater status than mine. I thought we had something meaningful here.." she dramatically whipped her head to aside, braids flipping over her shoulder, away from Avis, as to show the immense heartbreak she was going through right now. Leaving the shards of her definitely real shattered heart behind, she let her arms drop back to her sides again, grinning up at Avis. Oh Merlin, it was nice to find someone she could just joke around with like that.

"Unless you told me to bring my charms book or caramels, I'm probably going to go with no... There's only so long I can suffer through handkerchiefs, I may or may not have missed it."

Sabrina snickered at that, shaking her head, quite amused. "Fair enough" she nodded, picturing the long paragraph on handkerchiefs she hid her message in. She didn't expect for Avis to be completaly oblivious as to what they were about to do but.. she had to admit, there was a certain fun in that. Plus, the face she made the moment she did realise was priceless. Sabrina had to bite the inside of her cheeks to stop the wide grin that was threatening to spill over her lips.

Sabrina wasn't as surprised to see the Robe of Warmth Avis had pulled out from her considerately smaller satchel than the fact that she skipped over to her. Skipped. As much as Avis joked around, she actually seemed to try to uphold a certain sense of seriousness around her. Which Sabrina honestly found a bit ridiculous. As if to tease Avis, she skipped for a bit, glancing back at the other girl with a smirk.

"No" Avis' stern reaction to such a simple question came as another surprise. Although it probably shouldn't have, Sabrina thought, yet again reminding herself of the serious, independent aura the other Ravenclaw kept around herself like a protective cloak. Still, she couldn't help but prod a bit.

"Why not? I am quite good at it, and it will come in handy soon" she shrugged again, eyeing the mane of hair whipping behind Avis in the december wind. Yep, what an ideal time for a swim.
