✽Avery didn't want to study Charms today. Really, she didn't want to study anything. All she wanted to do was go outside and enjoy the snow with her friends. But, as always, there was work to be done before play. She sighed as she tapped her quill against the parchment. The questions staring back at her. Waiting for her answer.
Avery finally decided to actually look at the assignment instead of stare at it blankly. She was happy to find the first few questions easy. Simple things that she remembered from class that day. Avery smiled at herself for paying attention. Sometimes it was hard to listen to the constant lecturing when she would rather be learning to be an auror. Avery knew that she had to learn this in order to be an auror, but she still wasn't interested in it. When Avery got to the fourth question, it seemed impossible. Avery wracked her brain for the answer, but unfortunately couldn't come up with one.
She sighed and laid her head against the table. Defeated. Now it felt like she would never get free time. Especially with this assignment due tomorrow. Avery made a mental note to try and find the professor later if she couldn't find the answer. But first, she would try and answer the other questions.

✽Avery heard the door close. Someone had come into the empty study room. She was so focused on trying to find the answer that she didn't even look back. Then she heard whoever it was sit down and set down a bag.
Then she heard a girl with a pretty voice ask her if she needed help on her charms homework. That's when glanced over to see a girl with brown hair staring at her assignment. She looked older than Avery, so she would probably be a great help.
"Sure. I almost fell asleep during Charms today, so I couldn't catch this answer." She showed the homework question to the other girl. Hoping that she would know the answer to the question.
As Avery waited for the other girl to help, she thought back to the other homework she needed to finish. She remembered that she also had a Herbology assignment due the next day. She knew it would be pretty easy though since that class was pretty interesting to her. She also remembered that she wanted to practice Quidditch after school. She wanted to make sure she was ready for Quidditch tryouts whenever they began. Maybe thinking about what she would do after homework would actually motivate her to finish it.

✽The older girl brought her stuff over to Avery's table to see what the question was. Avery pushed the piece of paper over to the girl and watched as she thought about the question. When the girl told her that the name started with a Z and the answer was B, Avery remembered the professor saying something about that person.
"Thanks! I don't think I would have remembered that without help. What's your name?" Avery asked the girl that helped her.
While she waited for the older girl to answer she glanced at the rest of the paper. She only had one question left and it looked easy, so Avery began to read it. Hoping to finish it and Herbology so she could get outside.
She was itching to be done for Christmas. Even though she knew she would be staying at the castle, she knew she was going to make the best out of it. Nights of staying up late reading and watching the snow fall outside through her window sounded amazing. Though, it didn't sound as amazing as going back to her hometown and seeing her cousin again. She hadn't seen him in so long, and she missed him dearly. She just hoped she would be able to see him again soon.

✽Avery smiled when the girl said her name was Tracey. "Nice to meet you Tracey. I'm Avery. Also, thanks again for the help."
Then Avery put away her Charms work and pulled out her Herbology homework. She glanced over it, and was relieved to find it pretty short. She read over a couple of the answers, and she found that it looked pretty easy too. Avery sighed in relief and began to work.
She worked hard and made sure to put effort into each question. She wanted to have good grades, so that her parents would be proud of her. She wanted to show them that she is willing to do everything she can. Even if it means skipping a little time for being outside.
She was also very thankful to Tracey. Avery didn't know how to show her gratitude because Tracey had probably saved her grade. She made a mental note to herself to pay more attention in class because she wouldn't always have someone to help, and the stuff she learned may even be useful when she was done at Hogwarts. That was enough to motivate her to work harder.
Finally after what felt like forever Avery had a couple of questions left. She was proud of how productive she had been, and having only a couple of questions left motivated her to finish. Maybe she should hang out with Tracey more. She seemed really cool.

Avery finished up her Herbology assignment with a sigh. She knew that she was done with the homework due tomorrow, but then she remembered that a Potions assignment due in a couple of days. She decided to pull it out. Willing to spend a few more minutes studying now that she had someone to talk to.
Avery glanced over and saw that Tracey was studying Transfiguration. Transfiguration was probably Avery's favorite class. Even though it is hard. She loved how you could transform one thing to another thing. It was also going to be useful for when she became an auror someday.
When Tracey asked why Transfiguration was so hard Avery smiled in sympathy. She nodded her head in agreement. Transfiguration was very hard. That was no lie. She wished it could be easier so that it would be more useful. She also couldn't imagine how much harder it would be in her second year. SHe made a mental note to also pay attention in that class too.
