As if Mondays weren’t bad enough, the staircase chose that exact moment to play its tricks. Midway through her climb, it shifted with a groan, carrying her to an entirely different floor, far from her destination. With a groan, Ira now faced a longer walk to reach her Potions classroom.

By the time she reached her classroom, Ira was breathless and damp with sweat. She stepped into the classroom, wiping the sweat from her brow. Ira wasn’t about to let the castle's antics get the better of her. She didn't like being late—not now, not ever. Thank Merlin, she managed to slid into a seat before the professor even glanced her way.

Ira offered a subtle smile to the girl next to her before she opened her book and laid it on the desk. As the professor began discussing antidotes for common and uncommon poisons, Ira leaned forward, her quill poised to take notes.

Ira listened intently, her quill gliding across the parchment as the professor detailed the ingredients. Being the daughter of a Potions Master didn’t mean she could coast through the subject—far from it. Potions wasn’t her strongest suit, but then again, Ira had learned that nothing would be unless she gave it her all.

The lecture ended and with the practical underway, Ira shifted toward the brunette beside her, her tone polite yet inviting. "Hi, shall we get started? I’m Ira, by the way."

For once in her life, Sabrina actually had made it to class before it started. Okay, that might be an exaggeration. She has gotten much better at managing her time - and not getting discracted by an interesting book - since first enrolling into Hogwarts, espacially when it came to her favorite subjects, which Potions just happened to be, but it was still a rare event.

She was just setting down her equipment when, in the distrorted reflection of her cauldron, she caught a glimse of a black-haired Hufflepuff girl, sitting down in the seat beside her. Right as she was about to turn her head and greet the girl, the professor started the lesson, immediately getting Sabrina's attention. She made a mental note of introducing herself to the girl later.

She took extensive notes, completally caprured by the lecture. She already had some basic knowledge in the field of healing potions, having often observed her morther brewing them at home. So she was delighted at the prospect of trying it herself at the end of the lesson. She quickly wrote a few more lines down, from the corner of her eye seeing the girl turn to her and introduce herself. Glancing up at her, she set her quill down, smiling brightly at the other girl.

"Hi! I am Sabrina, Sabrina Lyons, Brie for short. And sure!" she nodded, reaching her hand out in an offer of a handshake.
"Wanna brew it in your cauldron, or shall we use mine? I'll go fetch us the ingredients," she asked, pushing herself up to do just that.

With a small, polite smile, Ira turned to the girl next to her, "It's nice to meet you, brie," she said, taking her proffered hand for a handshake. How lovely it must be to have a nickname. Look at her— three letters, IRA! That's it! Why, oh why, couldn't her parents give her a name that is a bit more grand? Ira is just so tiny. What is even left there to shorten? Of course, her sister and cousins came up with RaRa, but honestly, that's way too goofy to share with everyone around here.

Ira had always relied on her own cauldron during classes as she couldn't help but trust hers more than others. "We shall use mine," she said with a quick wave toward it. Ira shut her notes before sliding them to the edge of their bench. She tossed a brisk nod at Brie as she announced she'd go fetch the ingredients. Rubbing her hands together, she started weighing the requirements for the potions.

Ira proceeded by setting the cauldron on the table and giving it a meticulous wipe-down. She then carefully lined up the brass scales, crystal vials, and mortar and pestle. She busied herself by cleaning each one with equal care while waiting for Brie to return with the ingredients. As Brie returned, Ira raised her gaze and asked, "We’re starting with the antidote for common poisons, yes?" while lending a hand in setting down the ingredients.

Ira leaned forward with her hands on the table, letting her gaze wander from Brie to the supplies. "Alright, what’s the plan? I’m thinking... One of us could handle the cauldron while the other deals with measurements. But, of course, if you have a better idea, lay it on me."

Sabrina took her time picking out the ingredients, checking if all of them were to her liking. Coming back with her arms full, she was glad for Ira's help, immediately voicing said gratefulness.

"Thanks! I swear, I thought the unicorn horn would topple over and fall soon" she chuckled, " and yep, that is the plan." she answered, setting the rest of the ingredients down carefully. She deeply enjoyed the process of brewing potions, each part of it, even the preparations. It was slow and calming, having a pre-set structure, it allowed space for an almost medative state, in Sabrina's opinion. That part, of course, only applied once you knew the recipe by heart and/or was very confindent it it's sucessful completion - and were alone. She didn't mind working in groups by any means, it had its own benefits and often was a pleasent experience, but it just had a very different feel to it.

"I'd prefer if we were to take turns, if you don't mind? I'll get the Bezoar powdered, and you could meassure the Standard Ingredient?" she proposed, already moving to grab the Bezoar in question, placing it inside Ira's mortar. She supposed it was okay to use, as Ira had already set it down on the table, plus it was very well cleaned - just as hers - if she could say so herself, "Of course, it's meant to be added after the Bezoar, but it doesn't hurt to prep, eh?" she added, shooting a sideways glance at the other girl, smiling.

Ira had never been a fan of partnering up with fellow students during the classes, but over the course of time, she grew accustomed to it and learnt to remain calm during those situations. Well, also because she found no choice but to obey the professor. She suppressed a chuckle as she looked back on how she used to tense up at the mention of 'team'.

Ira responded with a hum as her eyes flicked to Brie. Fortunately, the unicorn horn didn't slip from her hands and disappear under any tables. Had that happened, they would have had to hunt for it beneath the tables in this jam-packed classroom. Not to mention the scorching temperature, as each and every table would contain a steaming cauldron to brew the potions.

Moreover, it would hinder their progress. Should that occur, how would they complete the potion before the class is dismissed? Upon realising that she was fretting over something that was purely hypothetical, Ira shushed her mind immediately.

Offering a slight dip of her head, she responded, "Consider it done," she slid the brass scales closer to her. Ira set the standard ingredients on one side and placed the weight on the other.

Following that, she adjusted the standard ingredients to the point where the scales hung perfectly still. Then she cast a fleeting glance at Brie to see whether the powder was good to go, and once it had been, "I got this," she reached towards the mortar. After all, it was only fair to help with measuring that part too, given that Brie handled the relatively tiring part, "Can't let you do all the heavy lifting," she added with a chuckle.

Once she was done with the measurements, Ira tossed the powders into the cauldron and pointed at the cauldron with a slight head tilt, "I suppose it's time to heat this up," she said.

Sabrina smiled at the girl's quick answer, noting the precisement in which she was completing her task in. It was always nice to partnet up with someone who put extra effort into compliting the task. Not that she was against goofing around - quite the opposite, actually, often being the initiator of it - but there was a time in which she indulged in it. Like in charms, or transfiguration. Not when brewing potions.

She crushed the bezoar over and over again, one hand cupping the mortar, holding it in place, the motion familiar and well practiced to her. Done, she was ready to meassure the powder when the other girl snatched it from her. Slightly startled, Sabrina couldn't stop the displeased noise that came out of her now slightly pouted lips. Not fair, I wanted to do that, she thought, rather childeshly. She had to remind herself that she was twelve, big enough to not sulk at someone else doing her favorite part - which in brewing, was basically everything.

Bumping the heel of her palm to her forehead, she shook her head, smile returning to her face. Thankfully, she was never the one to hold a grudge - however inlogical - her good mood returning just as quickly as it had left her.

"Almost," she nodded, adding the standart ingredience - in the amount already meassured by Ira - into the cauldron as well, "now we can heat it up" she smiled up at the girl, tilting her head to a side, "ehm, do you know the ignition spell? Last time I tried it, I set the whole desk on fire so I prefer to do it manually" she chuckled, sheepishly rubbing the back of her head. After that, they would have to just sit and wait for 30-40 minutes. If they hadn't have had two potion classes right after each other, they wouldn't have had been able to finish it.
