A Snowy Situation
January 19, 2019
The weekend had finally arrived, and a few students celebrated by going out onto the grounds to play in the snow. Sylvie was not there to play in the snow, just to admire it. It was cold, and she would probably need all the tissues she could get after she was done outside. Her cheeks were a rosy red and so was her nose. She was wearing a white sweater and light gray pants along with a white beanie, brown boots, and a gray scarf.
The snow wasn't too thick today. Sylvie made footprints in the snow and their was a soft cruching sound every time she took a step, but she didn't have any difficulties walking around in normals boots. There was a bit of a cold breeze that sent shivers down her spine whenever she felt it. Then, there was the lake. The lake was coated with thin ice that you could still see through. The tiny bit of sunlight peeking out from behind the clouds made it sparkle. Sylvie thought it'd be fun to ice skate on the beautiful lake, if it wasn't so thin. Another problem was that she didn't know how to ice skate, but she ignored that fact.
She leaned against a tree near the path, looking out into the lake, spacing out for a moment. It was just her, alone, watching the rays of sunlight dance on the lake's surface for what felt like an hour, but really was just 2 minutes. Sure, there were other children behind her giggling, screaming, and having fun, yet she didn't really hear them.
She was finally snapped out of her daze when she saw someone walking out of the corner of her eye. Sylvie casually turned to see who it was, and saw someone familiar walking away. It was Ruby, the girl who had basically told Sylvie to get help the other day. She didn't know what to say, but she wanted to say something to the girl. She walked very quickly over to the girl. "Hey!" she said to Ruby, "What's the big idea, saying something like that and then just walking away!?" Sylvie crossed her arms, trying her best to look stern, but mostly looking like an angry puppy.

A Snowy Situation
~ * ~Ruby lazily strolled onto the grounds with no real purpose other than to enjoy the outdoors. Nature was something that she greatly enjoyed, so she had spent a lot of time out here since she came to Hogwarts, regardless of the weather. As she walked through the doors and was met by a cold wind, she blinked several times, squinting in the blinding light from the sun meeting the bright white snow, causing it to seem glittery and alive. People strolled about, some playing, some laughing or chatting together, but Ruby hadn't come to talk or to play. She just wanted to be out here and have some time to herself, and maybe she'd observe people like she normally did.
Black waterproof winter boots laced up to the top met the snow as she took a few steps, small crunching sounds reaching her ears along with the sound of voices, laughter, the small creaks of tree branches waving in the wind, and more. A small smile slipped onto her face as she breathed in deeply, smelling the crisp freshness of winter air. The freezing breeze didn't particularly bother her, and the cold feeling that settled on her face wasn't unwelcome. It reminded her of past winters, ones where she had played and frolicked and been with her three favorite cousins. Thinking of her cousins, she made a mental note to arrange a meeting with them for this week. It would be totally unacceptable for them to cease the tradition they had created this year of meeting somewhere in Hogwarts at least once a week. Her brows were furrowed slightly as she thought, and she buried part of her face in her soft, plain gray scarf to keep it warm.
She was dressed for the cold so that she wouldn't freeze, but nevertheless her overall outfit for now was rather muted – a long black winter coat with the gray scarf and matching gray gloves and leggings. The hood of her coat was pulled over her head, concealing most of the single braid down her back that her hair was drawn into. Her gloved hands were stuffed into her pockets as she wandered in the direction of the lake, wanting to see the beautiful icy surface. Sure enough, she was greeted by the sight that she had come to adore, except there was something that she should address. A girl near the lake was someone that Ruby recognized – not that that was unusual, as she recognized many people that she had never talked to due to her observing, but she knew this person because of other things. This was Sylvie Maple, the girl that she had just recently talked to. Sylvie had been upset at the time, but Ruby had ended the conversation with something for her to think about.
Ruby wondered if she could just sneak by her fellow Slytherin, as she hadn't decided if she wanted to talk about what had happened. So, Ruby continued walking as if she hadn't seen Sylvie in the first place. Unfortunately for her, she was forced to do something when she heard hurried footsteps and Sylvie protesting about the manner in which Ruby had left her to think. Ruby turned to face the seemingly annoyed girl, a smirk forming that would likely be incredibly irritating for Sylvie. Her head was cocked slightly to one side as she looked at her housemate, her piercing ice-blue eyes seeming to stare into the other girl's soul. She raised an eyebrow, amused at Sylvie's attempt at being stern. “It gave you time to think and work things out for yourself.” She opened her arms out in a "hey, what can I say" type of gesture and shrugged as she started to take a few steps back, the infuriating look remaining. “It would be no use if I gave you all the answers or forced my views upon you!” she called as she backed further away. Her movement stopped for a moment, giving her enough time to say, “If you want answers in this world, you have to chase them, run after them, learn for yourself,” before she gave a cheeky grin with her eyes shining and spun around, beginning to jog away from Sylvie, her manner playful and mischievous. She hoped that Sylvie would follow her. It would be so much more interesting if she did.~ * ~

A Snowy Situation
Ruby was making Sylvie more and more frustrated the more she refused to simply answer the question. If anything, it seemed like the Ruby found her frustrations humorous because a smile had appeared on the other girl's face. How would SHE feel if someone gave her a weird cryptic riddle to solve with no context in the slightest!?! Sylvie's eyebrows furrowed more, her eyes seemed to burn with more rage, and her face turned redder the more upset she became. Ruby's blue eyes locked with Sylvie's light green ones.
Sylvie had thought things over, but she wasn't going to tell her that. She didn't want to be wrong and look like an idiot. She noticed that Ruby was walking backwards. "Is she trying to escape from me!?!" She thought, maintaining eye contact, and preparing herself to follow Ruby wherever she was escaping too.“It gave you time to think and work things out for yourself.”
And with that, Ruby turned around started to running in the opposite direction, smiling to herself. "Oh, she's going to get it!" Sylvie thought, sprinting after the girl, yelling, "DON'T RUN AWAY FROM ME YOU-!!!" The girl couldn't think of a good insult to use on the girl. Sylvie pumped her arms back and forth, running as fast as she could after Ruby. Her eyes burned with her anger and frustration. "WHEN I CATCH UP TO YOU YOU'RE SO DEAD!"“If you want answers in this world, you have to chase them, run after them, learn for yourself,”
Sylvie was a pretty fast girl. At her old school, she was one of the fastest people in the grade. Because of this fact, she was able to slowly get closer and closer to Ruby.
