Could bringing a phone to Hogwarts be a good idea? No, but Angus was a master of bad ideas. Already In his first year at Hogwarts, he started to miss the Internet. For some reason, unknown to him, all the wizards have agreed to use almost only owls for communication, which meant that after sending the letter, he had to wait for ages for an answer. He thought that thanks to the phone, he will be able to talk to his sisters after lessons without having to visit the owlery. Unfortunately, it turned out that it wasn't as easy as he expected. Firstly, there were no electric sockets at Hogwarts. Angus predicted that but he was hoping that he'll find some kind of useful spell for this problem, he could transform a mouse into a box but didn't find a spell that would charge his phone; he had to rely on his power bank. Secondly, his phone went haywire as soon as Angus got in Hogwarts. It doesn't mean it didn't work but it definitely didn't work the way it should with turning on an off, glitching screen and making weird sounds.

That day, after an hour of unsuccessful attempts to get the phone to cooperate, he hurriedly put it in the bag and ran to the lessons. The lesson went normally until the phone thought that it's the appropriate time to release one of its super-loud sounds. If not the uncomfortable situation Angus would probably be proud that he fixed it in some way because the sound was at least three times louder than usual. All students in the classroom looked at him with big interest and the teacher with irritation. Angus quickly excused himself with a headache, the teacher didn’t seem convinced and he was almost sure that he sensed his lie.

He escaped from the classroom, putting the phone between the pages of one of the books to temporarily mute it in case of other weird sounds. Angus ran out into the corridor, he wanted to get into Gryffindor common room as soon as possible (which, ironically, had to be at the other side of the Hogwarts) to be able to turn it off and then hide it and quietly avoid the consequences. Then he would go to the hospital wing with a "headache", he might try to pretend to be enchanted by someone, which could later be used as an explanation to the teacher.

To make them believe him, the boy had to get to the hospital wing at a reliable time, which meant he had to run through the crowded corridors. Angus tripped on his robe and stumbled upon some Slytherin, which caused all their stuff to fall on the floor. He apologized to the boy he almost knocked off his feet, immediately collected his books and moved toward the Gryffindor Tower.

Finally, Gryffindor entered a completely empty corridor where he could safely make an attempt to turn off the phone. He didn’t remember in which book he put in so he had to search them all. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find his telephone in any of them. That meant it probably fell out of the book when he bumped into that boy. Angus turned back and started running again, cursing the person who invented that Hogwarts robes and praying that no one would find his phone before him.

He unsuccessfully searched the entire floor of the corridor, where he probably lost it. More and more scared that another student found him or worse, a teacher, he began to browse his books again, hoping that he simply missed the one in which he put the phone. Browsing the book from history, Angus saw that the first page is significantly different from how he remembered it.

Property of Noah Page

Noah Page had his book and if Angus was lucky, the boy might not have discovered the phone yet.

He just had to find him.

Noah was having a long day, it wasn't a bad day, but Noah sure would appreciate it if it got over soon. Nothing was happening and the lessons that he was learning were stuff he had already read about. Noah didn't like not paying attention in classes but he couldn't help it, the day was simply too painful to live through.

As the class ended, Noah got up, excited because it was a free lecture next, he could take a break and walk around a bit, the castle always calmed him down and made him feel better.

Several minutes later, Noah found himself walking around the corridors, that's what he had been doing all the time, sometimes stopping near windows and staring outside, it was a slightly dull day but it wasn't bad either. At least it wasn't too sunny, he didn't like sunny days all that much, dull was better.

He heard footsteps coming from the corridor ahead of him and turned the corner to see a Gryffindor running towards him, Noah didn't pay much attention to him. But when the Gryffindor was near Noah, he tripped and fell on Noah, who was taken by surprise but managed to not fall, his backpack however was not as lucky and some of his books were on the floor.

He picked them up, it was quite a mess but he got everything and shrugged at the Gryffindor who apologized and walked away.

Later that day, after classes had ended, Noah decided to sit in the library and study a bit, he didn't have too much homework so he could probably just spend some time reading some books later. He took his backpack off his shoulders and opened it.

Going through his books, he realised one of them wasn't actually his, he didn't realise it at first but after failing to find one of his books, he came across one that had someone else's name on it... Angus Watson?

He had no idea who that was, but the book was heavy and oddly bulky as if there was something in it and something slipped out of it as he was about to open it, an odd box that reminded him of those weird boxes they kept ingredients in but this one was much thinner, it even felt more shiny like it was made of glass or something, it didn't feel like glass though.

He took a look around, there wasn't anyone nearby, should he try to inspect it further? It did have a few buttons on it but it would be weird to interfere with someone else's property, right? But where was he to find this person? And what could the box even be...?

Finding Noah Page, the student who had his phone that could do every kind of unpredictable thing at any time was surprisingly difficult. The boy was definitely not the most social person in the world and many people didn't even hear of him. An additional difficulty was the need to explain why an ordinary history book is so important to him, Angus wasn’t a good liar and it was obvious that he was too concerned about this textbook. The Slytherins weren’t really enthusiastic about Gryffindor asking them about him, so all he managed to do was to find out that Noah was a first-year student, that meant that Angus had to get to the dungeons, near Slytherin common room and somehow get him out.

Unfortunately, the attempt to catch him in there failed. Failed is an understatement. Angus wasn’t sure if it was because of students who were suspicious of his involvement in finding an ordinary history book, or Noah simply wasn't there. He also failed to find out when Noah has lessons. He returned to Gryffindor common room completely helpless. The boy was sure that when Slytherin will find his phone, that sooner or later would do something unpredictable, he will go to one of the teachers, show it to him and say that he found this in a book belonging to Angus Watson, for whom this "adventure" will end the best case scenario, with a detention. Gryffindor wasn't in the best mood and almost saw himself being thrown out of Hogwarts.

The next day, during a long break between lessons, Angus sat on the windowsill reading a book from the library, which he should return a month ago. He wanted to distract himself from the whole telephone situation. He hoped that Noah would simply not understand what had fallen into his hands and threw it away. It was unlikely, but he didn't know what else to do. In the next class, the lesson just ended and a group of Slytherins appeared in the corridor. Wait, Slytherins? Angus watched them, trying to see if they looked younger than he was. They were not second-years, it was for sure Gryffindor recognized most people in his year. After a short observation, he noticed a boy who could be Noah Page. Angus wasn't absolutely sure, more like 60 per cent sure, but he was desperate.

"Hi. Please tell me you are Noah Page and you have my history book."

Noah stared at the box for a few minutes, trying to decide whether he should inspect the item or find the owner, it was a bit late so he didn't know what the chances of being able to find the owner would be, besides, where would he go for it anyway? He also thought of turning it in to the teachers but he didn't really think of a reason to (yet).

He finally decided that he wouldn't do anything with it, it wasn't his property and he shouldn't poke his nose into other people's business, but how was he even going to find the owner?

But before he could think further on that, one side of the box started glowing and it kept flashing, Noah was startled and almost dropped it. He kept staring at it before it shut down after a few seconds of flashing. What the actual hell was the box?

Noah was even more conflicted now, though he had no intentions of using it still, it still felt very off and he felt like he should be alerting someone about it, who knows what it could be?

He shook his head, looking back at the book, Angus Watson, if he had to find answers about what the device was, he had to find Watson and then decide if he should tell anyone about it, he hoped it wasn't anything too serious, complaining about something felt like a real pain to think of.

He sighed and kept the device back into the book the way it was before and put it back in his backpack, deciding he had to study first. After a few minutes, he realised he too was missing a book. It had to be with Watson, right? That would mean Watson knew who Noah was, maybe he too was searching for Noah?
-
Noah woke up the next day having completely forgotten about the book and the device, only remembering about it when he was picking out which books he had to take for the day's schedule, so where was he even going to find this person anyway? He didn't really know anyone that would know who he was, he didn't know anyone at all. He sincerely hoped Angus would have better skills at finding people and would find him first instead.

There wasn't much he could do so he continued on, keeping an eye out for anyone who looked like they were searching for someone.

After a class, Noah left feeling exhausted, it was a free lecture next so maybe he could rest a bit somewhere. He had, again, forgotten about the book. But then he heard his name being uttered and looked around, a Gryffindor student of around his age was talking to a Slytherin from his year.

The boy shook his head and pointed towards Noah so he assumed that that person was searching for him. "I'm Noah Page, what do you want?" He said, walking up to Angus, people usually never sought him out, the closest thing was the very few people he actually knew greeting him when they saw him walk by.

"Hi. Please tell me you are Noah Page and you have my history book."

Angus was probably a little too engaged because the boy looked at him like he was a madman. Slightly frightened, he shook his head and pointed to another first-year from Slytherin, who could also be the boy that Angus yesterday stumbled upon.

"I'm Noah Page, what do you want?"

Finally! Angus tried to figure out whether Slytherin told some teacher about his stupid phone, or he didn't discover it at all, on which option Gryffindor counted the most, even though it was unlikely.

"My name is Angus Watson, we accidentally swapped our history books, yesterday, didn't we?" He started but quickly noticed that the rest of the students leaving the classroom were watching them with curiosity. Of course, Gryffindor has probably already drawn someone's attention searching for his book. Noah wanted to answer him, but the boy gave him a sign so they would walk away from the students who would willingly listen to their conversation.

"Did you find anything in this book?" He looked at Slytherin's face, but couldn't tell if the boy had his phone or had no idea what is he talking about "I don't mean history knowledge. Rather, something else. Very different. Something that could do very strange things, but I hope that it just fell out of this bloody book and broke into a thousand pieces "

Noah looked at the person who was searching for him, apparently. The Gryffindor was probably slightly older than him, now that he thought about it but he couldn't be sure.

"My name is Angus Watson, we accidentally swapped our history books, yesterday, didn't we?"

Noah had to think for a while, then he remembered about the book... and the weird device in it. Was it his? He still hadn't figured out what the device was. He looked at the boy, not sure how he should get him to explain the device first, but before he could reply, the boy signalled him to move away from the crowd.

He realised that a few people did seem to be staring at them, he nodded and followed the boy, "Yes, I have your book." He said, he couldn't remember the name correctly but he was pretty sure it was the same name.

"Did you find anything in this book? I don't mean history knowledge. Rather, something else. Very different. Something that could do very strange things, but I hope that it just fell out of this bloody book and broke into a thousand pieces"

Noah thought about it, the boy didn't seem to care as much about the History textbook as much as he did about the device, and the way he spoke about it, it almost sounded like he didn't want anyone to find out about it, "I did find something in it, though I could not understand what it is, I did not bother trying to do anything with it but it did act weird at one point so I just kept it back and decided I would return it to the owner. What even is that thing?"

Noah apparently had to recall that he and Angus had swapped the history books, but after a moment he confirmed that he had the Gryffindor’s textbook. The boy felt great relief, but then he remembered that finding the book doesn't necessarily mean finding his phone. He looked at Noah, Slytherin seemed less confused but more curious. Angus wasn't surprised. If he didn't have a Muggle in the family, Muggle technology could seem really strange to him. The Gryffindor never quite understood it, but he remembered perfectly well his reaction to the discovery of the wizarding world, the difference was small.

"I did find something in it, though I could not understand what it is, I did not bother trying to do anything with it but it did act weird at one point so I just kept it back and decided I would return it to the owner. What even is that thing?"

Yes! Angus won't leave the Hogwarts! The boy felt really relieved, and the terrible feeling he had felt in his stomach since yesterday, had disappeared. Noah just wanted to return the phone. He was saved! After all, Slytherin deserved an explanation. If his phone did something strange, it meant that the boy had to experience quite a shock and had a strong psyche. The corridor was already empty, for most students it was already after classes, and Angus had a long break, so why not explain everything to Noah now?

"I'm guessing you don't have much to do with muggles, right? This device that I accidentally gave you is called a phone. Muggles use it instead of owls and Floo Network. I mean, that's the idea. Today's phones can take pictures, but not as cool as those in the wizarding world. Thanks to them, muggles also have access to the internet, which is ... ", Angus had to think for a while, "Ok, I have no idea how to explain the internet. In short, phones help muggles communicate. I am a muggleborn and I never got over using it, so I brought it to Hogwarts. I didn’t expect it to go crazy. To be honest, I still don't know why it started doing that. ". Gryffindor explained to Noah how his phone got into the history book and why he stumbled upon him yesterday.

"Thank you so much for not telling any teacher about it! I would be doomed if you did so. I think that we can recover our things in the same way that we accidentally swapped them yesterday, it shouldn't arouse any suspicions. Tomorrow, after lessons, here?"

Noah waited a few seconds for the boy to reply, he could see how his face relaxed after Noah told him that he hadn't given the device to a teacher or anything like that, that just made Noah even more curious about the device.

Fortunately, Angus did try to explain the device to him, the best he could, though Noah could imagine how hard it would be to explain a device that he used so much that he didn't even think about it much. He didn't completely understand how it worked but he did understand it's purpose, but how did the device operate? How did they speak into the device? More importantly, how was any of it done without magic?

But he guessed it wasn't really his business, that was for when he took up Muggle Studies, for now, he had to return the device to its rightful owner who was standing in front of him.

Noah raised an eyebrow when Angus told him that they'd be doing a weird switch where it all looks like an accident, there was no real need for that, was there? "Can't we just replace the books now? It's not that rare for people to accidentally exchange books, we don't really need to make it look like it did not happen, the de... phone is a hidden in the book anyway so no one will realy know.

Noah still seemed very interested in his phone, which pleased Angus. Most wizards used to react to Muggle technology with disgust and aversion. The Gryffindor thought that combination of Muggle inventions and magic would affect with something definitely interesting. Angus was excited about the fact that his stupid idea had no bad effects and without thinking whether the boy has his phone with him, he proposed a rather extravagant plan to get it back. The Slytherin looked at him like he was crazy.

"Can't we just replace the books now? It's not that rare for people to accidentally exchange books, we don't really need to make it look like it did not happen, the de... phone is a hidden in the book anyway so no one will really know," he asked with raised eyebrows. ”Oh! Yes! Sorry, I didn't think that you could have it with you. I'm trying to be more cautious about it and I've probably overwrought this plan, " he chuckled Noah gave him his book with a phone inside, and Angus returned the textbook he had.

"Once again, sorry about this whole... catastrophe back there. And thanks for not giving the phone to the teachers" Angus didn't know how to express his gratitude to the boy and he hoped it would be enough. "See you later. And I hope that this time I won't be in troubles"

Noah couldn't help but chuckle a bit at Angus' reason for the plan. He sure was rather paranoid about the phone. He nodded and took out the textbook which had the phone in it, handing it over to Angus and taking his book back from him.

He was glad the exchange was finally over, he was actually rather worried about how he was going to find Angus but fortunately, luck had been on his side. He had no idea what he would have done if it wasn't for their luck. More importantly, his curiosity about the device would have killed him by then, he wasn't a snitch either so he wouldn't have handed it over to a teacher, not when it didn't look like it was harmful or anything of that sort. He liked to stay out of trouble as much as possible and a grudge was something he wasn't looking forward to having, it would be a huge waste of time.

The Gryffindor thanked Noah and Noah nodded at him, "Be more careful with that thing." He said, who knows what would've happened if it was with someone who did plan on turning it over to the teacher or tried to meddle with it and something bad happened? He didn't want to think about that.

As Angus walked away, Noah remembered how tired he was and decided he should head back to the library or the common room and get some rest. The phone thing would be in his thoughts for a while now probably.

Noah Page has left the thread.
