A chill wind swept through as Jan stood still by the Great Lake, helding a small package in his hands. The rectangle box wrapped in beige brown was sent by his mother, who had received his letter a month ago explaining that the camera he brought with him turned out to be useless in the Wizarding World. He knew that inside the package was an antiquated digital camera that doesn’t require any source of electricity to function—a Pentax K1000. He had specifically requested his mother to check with Onkel Tobias about borrowing it and now that he got it, he decided to give it a try by taking a good landscape photo of the lake before him.
With a small, almost imperceptible sigh escaping from his chapped lips, he knelt down on the ground and opened the box. Inside it was a letter and a solid, black metallic camera nestled in a bed of sturdy foams that probably kept it safe and steady during the owl’s flight. He picked up the letter and read it, the words written in it registering clearly in his head:Jan folded the letter carefully, putting it in his pocket before he cautiously picked up the Pentax K1000. His squarish fingers hovered over the camera, pausing for a moment as if it was to savor the weight of it. It was fairly light-weighted, especially compared to the much modernized cameras that he usually used. I’ll give it a try now, Jan thought to himself when he stood up and brought the camera to his dominant eye.Mein Bua Janosch,
Hope you’re doing just fine in your new school. I heard from your mom that you wanted to borrow my only mechanical camera. I don’t mind letting you have it, but it will take great responsibility. Make sure you keep it safe, and please use it cautiously. I trust you will make the most of it and capture some pictures for me during your time there.
Take care and have fun in this Hogwarts school. Go make some friends, get good grade so your mom will be proud of you. If you need anything else, just write me a letter directly.
Alles Liebe,
Tobias K. Dehoff
Click. The lens caught the sombre gray of the lake, its surface caught the reflection of the castle; yet, in his thought, it wasn’t a satisfactory shot. He felt that the frame shot was too wide for his liking. With a faint wrinkle of discontent on his face, Jan repositioned himself to find a much better vantage point of the murky lake and its shore. He adjusted the camera once more before it came back to his face again with its lens focusing on the view he wanted to capture again.

Per her usual routine, Nabi woke up early and got ready for a light walk around the Great Lake, it was her rest day so there would be no running this morning. After having made sure to have her uniform perfect without a wrinkle in sight, she stepped out of her dormitory room. She made her way through the corridors with students shuffling around, the morning was quiet, oddly unusual for a school that never seems to keep shut. I suppose this morning is the exception...or it may just be worse later... Nabi did not believe in superstitions, though due to her time at Hogwarts, she noticed how oddly quiet mornings always seemed to result in eventful evenings.
Perhaps her evening will be eventful...
Her eyes remained forward as she walked, indifferent to the things around her. Having stepped out of the Castle, the cold wind was a pleasant welcome from the rather suffocating air of Hogwarts. She hummed softly, glancing around the area momentarily before walking toward the lake.
The great lake was calm, some would say early calm but Nabi always found the stillness of the water quite comforting. The undisturbed surface perfectly masked the creatures that lurked beneath it, in silence she walked along the edge of the lake foolish be the one who takes things at face value... Her gaze focused on the brume further out the vast murky lake, unaware of the young boy who seemed to be in his little world. That was until she heard it.
Click.
Nabi immediately recognized it as the sound of a camera's shutter going off. Her eyes immediately moved in the direction she had heard the sound, she noticed the boy off to the side and it seemed he had not noticed he was not alone this wonderfully grey morning. Could he be an aspiring photographer? Her head tilted slightly to the side as she silently observed him, deprived of emotion.
If the eyes could talk, they would speak of her slight curiosity
Her eyes looked straight at the camera as the young boy suddenly aimed the camera offside, the lens looking back at her.
oh?

Jan was too engrossed in his surroundings, focusing on finding the right shot that he didn’t realise someone was observing nearby. He ended up flinching, startled by the sudden presence appearing through the viewfinder when he angled his shoulders just a bit to the left. The figure looked like a ghost with those pale skin and straight black hair that framed her face like a shadow. And she was close, too close for him that he unintentionally let his camera slip from his grip. The horrified gasp came out of his mouth as he tried to reach out the camera, but it was already too late. It hit a large rock with a sickening thud, bouncing once in midair before skidding towards the edge of the Great Lake and falling into the murky depths below. For a moment, Jan knelt by the lake, staring blankly at the spot where the camera had fallen. He could see a piece of the Pentax K1000 floating just beneath the surface—the lens, now detached from the body, gradually drifting away from the spot.
“Just great,” The Ravenclaw boy muttered bitterly to himself while he slowly rose up from the cold, damp ground and brushed his khaki trousers. He couldn’t believe that in an instant, a valuable thing that was supposed to be handled carefully, was gone. Onkle Max would be very upset to know that his belongings are now damaged and lost. I’m screwed, Jan thought as he exhaled sharply and ran a hand through his sandy brown hair, threading through the strand in frustration. He could already imagine the way his uncle would press his lips together in a quiet disapproval look that always cut deeper than any scolding he had in his life. I promise to take care of it carefully. Jan wrote in the letter. His jaw tightened at the thought of it and then a hollow, farcical laugh escaped him after it when he remembered someone was there to witness the mishap. He turned around to see the very same girl on the higher ground, in the distance.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. Jan’s initial impulse was to go away, but when he was about to head to the box, gathering all of his remaining belongings and Onkle Max’s letter, the girl approached him slowly. Her action reminds him of a majestic mythical creature, though Jan couldn’t recall which. “You,” he said at last, narrowing his eyes. “I lost the camera because of you.” Regardless of it, she seemed completely unfazed with the accusation, her face expression was unreadable, as if the girl’s considering whether or not his accusation had any merit. And that made him irritated. “Don’t go appear out of nowhere.. You know I was taking photos, right?” Jan knew the answer to that. There’s no way she wasn’t aware of it. He asked the question just for clarification, or perhaps, he wanted to know if she had been watching his misery as some sort of entertainment for herself.

He looks like he has seen a ghost.
Nabi's head was still tilted, observing him flinch as if she had emerged out of thin air. She raised an eyebrow as the young boy dropped his camera, a sharp crack followed by his gasp. Does he not know how to use his hands?
Perhaps the young boy was naturally clumsy.
Her gray eyes followed the camera as it landed in the murky lake. Shame... the camera appeared to be a nice one. Nabi's gaze shifted to the boy knelt by the edge of the lake, without context, anyone would think he was staring at his reflection on the dark water. The boy muttered something, but it was too low for her to hear, she was standing too far away from him.
The boy stood up, giving a slight laugh. Oh... he may be one of those strange ones who laugh at their own adversity. He was still at the water's edge when he turned and looked in her direction. The silence around them was interrupted by birds chirping and crows cawing as if taunting the young boy's misfortune. With a soft hum she folded her hands together, Mother nature can be quite cruel at times. Tilting her head once again, she began to debate on what to do. Nabi would not console him. His misery did not affect her, but she wondered if he would cry.
Merlin help her if he did.
The young boy appeared to contemplate something, she watched as he began to shift away. What a way to start this morning... will he just leave the camera there? Her gray eyes flickered over to the edge of the lake, the water still as if it were not holding the camera in its watery depth. Looking back at the boy she hummed in thought before walking toward him. Her steps were willful, observing him intently as she made her way toward him.
Perhaps the film may never be recovered, forgotten in the darkness of the lake floor.
What a disappointing demise for a camera.
Nabi stood before him, her head tilting down to look at him as he narrowed his eyes at her, "You... I lost the camera because of you." She blinked in response to such a petty accusation, excuse me? Nabi watched as her silence appeared to add more salt to the wound, her eyebrow raising as he blamed his lack of situational awareness on her. With a curt hum, her voice came out in a flat tone. Her blank gaze on him, not answering his question right away. "Perhaps you should be more aware of where you go, mister...", You lack survival instincts, "As for your question... I did not know you were taking a picture until I heard the shutter go off the first time. It is not my fault if you suddenly aimed your camera in my direction."
Nabi narrowed her eyes at him, "I just happened to be walking when you began to take pictures." Her eyes flickered to the lake again before saying calmly, "Are you leaving the camera in the lake?"
Clicking her tongue she looked back at him, "That would be a waste."
