The brightly shining sun pierced through the clouds, giving friendly warmth to everything that it bathed. It was only warming things up, though, not outright burning witches and wizards. Which was always good. Not burning things was tight. The glistening lake was tantalizing. It was cool to the touch. And underneath, it had just the right temperature. Everyone could see that the lake was calm and the wind was only a breeze. It was the perfect day for an event to be held.

When you came out from your boat-cabin, you would find that the lakeside was busier than ever. A glowing light in the shape of a target could be seen floating in the lake around 50 meters from the shore. Today was the day for the stone skipping competition -some called it stone skimming- and you had been invited. Well, everyone was invited. You were not special, really. To join, just post your RP down below. There are a few things that you might want to read, though:

1. There are two rounds of the stone skipping competition: Preliminary and Final.
2. In the Preliminary Round, you’ll be asked to skip your stone once.
3. In the Final Round, you’ll be asked to skip your stone thrice with a moderation post in-between each throws.
4. You have to RP choosing your stone before each throw.
5. The quality of your stone is based on your wisdom + dice roll.
6. Poor quality rock (1-10) gives -2 to your number of skips, average quality rock (11-20) gives 0, and excellent quality rock gives +2.
7. The number of skips you do is your strength + dice roll + rock quality.
8. If you manage to pass through the target on the lake, you’ll be considered to have extra 5 skips.
9. Whether or not you accurately pass the target is your accuracy stat + dice roll.
10. You need to at least make a 100 words RP of picking a rock and throwing it to the lake.
11. When you post down here you automatically enter the Preliminary Round.
12. Three people with the highest number of skips will go on to the Final Round.
13. In the Final Round, your point is the addition of the three throws.
14. There will be prizes for the winners of the competition. Maybe. Who knows? You just have to win first.
15. Most importantly, have fun!

Serena crawled out of bed, rubbing her eyes. It was so sunny on the lake, the light naturally forced her to wake up. Being hungry helped too. The Hufflepuff was really craving a good English Breakfast right now. Eggs, mushrooms, hash browns, all of that jazz. She made her way out of the boat and towards the grounds, where food was usually served on the non-rainy days. But it was too early. Far too early. So early in fact that food wasn't even ready. She grumbled a little - almost as much as her stomach did - when she found out that she had woken up an hour before breakfast would be served.

Sighing, she opted to just go around the campgrounds and see the new set up. She had only arrived at camp yesterday so this was her first real day here. The Hufflepuff walked by the lake, appreciating the scenery. She paused suddenly, squinting a little as she spot a glowing light in the water. That wasn't there before from what she could remember. She pondered for a moment before recalling something about a stone-skipping contest. Was it for that?

Well she had an hour before food... May as well practice. She had met a Ravenclaw in first year that had attempted to teach her it. Serena decided to see if she could recall it. Looking around, she searched for a decent looking stone. It took her a few moments to find something that looked like it might actually be appropriate but she was guessing here. Stone-skipping was not exactly her forte, after all.

Picking it up, she made her way back to the lake and pulled her dominant right hand back to flick the stone into the water, trying to recall what she had been taught.

The dormitory boat was busier than usual that morning. Tatiana had awoken at her routine time, typically about half an hour before her cabin mates, and laid in bed until everyone else was up. But she noticed the other cabins were bustling about earlier than they usually were, as most students used the summer holiday as an opportunity to catch up on sleep. But Tatiana was a morning person, and her schedule was hard to break, and she liked it that way. Being up in the earlier hours of the day afforded her some alone time each morning before she had to interact with anyone else. Not that she disliked interaction, per se, but she valued a little bit of silence every once in a while. Being awake before everyone also made her more aware of changes in other's sleep schedules, such as this particular morning.

She rose from her bottom bunk bed and changed into something comfortable from her trunk. Stepping into a usual shorts and light colored top, she slid into the pair of sandals on the floor at the foot of her bed. She was a creature of habit, at least when it came to fashion. And sleep, and school, and friends. And... okay, well just about everything else as well. But comfort always took a priority over 'looking nice', as she wasn't one for getting dolled up. Besides, the summer sun was hot, and if she's was going to be outside all day she just wanted to stay cool and couldn't be bothered with trying to look cute as well.

Stepping out of the boat and on to the dock, she could already see something different about the grounds. By the lake, just a little ways off the water, there seemed to be an event of sorts being set up. She hadn't really looked at the schedule she'd been provided by her professor, but curiosity was enough to get her headed in that direction. Her day to day activities at camp so far had been pretty monotonous. Wait for her friends to wake up, change, spend the day by the lake. With the exception of Maggie's parties and games she was still organizing on occasion, that had been pretty much it. Not that she was complaining, she loved spending time in the sun and on the water, but a change of pace was always nice.

With the way the lake was being set up, a shimmering target bobbing out in the water, she deduced that the sight before her could be nothing else but a game. Tatiana wasn't particularly athletic, at least not in the traditional sense, though she had plenty of endurance from hiking around the wilds back home. But with classes out for the break, she was hungry for a little competition, be it mental or otherwise. As she approached, she noticed another student had already arrived, and seemed to be practicing for said event. She watched as she searched the ground for a small stone, picked it up, and with a sideways flick of her wrist, flung it on to the water, skipping as it went.

Ah, the stone skipping contest, she remembered. Of course. While she hadn't referred back to the activity schedule since she'd received it, she vaguely remembered this was one of the games they'd planned to host. It wasn't a skill she was particularly good at, as she'd only tried it a handful of times before, but it seemed like fun to try. It would at least be a decent opportunity to meet a few more students, aside from the ones she was already bunking with. Seeing as they were the only ones out there so far, Tatiana thought now would be a good time to introduce herself, and maybe even get in a little practice as well. Looking around the sand at her feet, she grabbed a mostly flat, smooth looking stone and took a few more steps toward the other girl, stopping a few feet away. Not wanting to startle her or break her concentration, she waited until she was finished with her throw before she spoke.

"Hi, I don't think we've met before," she smiled. "I'm Tatiana." She paused to try a throw herself, though it turned out to be a pretty feeble attempt, as the stone barely skipped once before sinking below the surface. Embarrassed, she turned back to the ground and tried to find another stone. "So, are you a hardcore stone throwing competitor?" She regretted the words as soon as they'd left her mouth. Meeting new people had gotten a little easier in her last year or so, but she still felt incredibly awkward on occasion, this being one of them. Is that even a thing?! Competitive stone throwing? Or rather, stone skipping? She couldn't imagine that it was actually a sport, much less this girl, who also was a student at Hogwarts, a professional competitor in it. But, the question had already been asked, and she hoped she hadn't sounded like a fool. Laughing nervously, more at herself than anything else, she added, "I just mean, I saw you were out here practicing before anyone else."

Santario had heard about this competition being held just the day after she had arrived, and it had her curious. She had only met one person so far and that was on the train ride in. Even if she didn’t really get to meet anyone at least she could participate and who knew maybe it would be fun. “It couldn’t hurt.” She said softly to herself as she stepped outside and made her way to the shore. She noted people already there would find herself a spot that wasn’t overcrowded but also not too far away from people either.

She would bend down and start looking at rocks she would find ones that were too heavy or lumpy, but she was looking for a flat smooth stone. Santario had skipped a couple of rocks before coming to Hogwarts as their home was not to far from the lake in the town she grew up in so she knew what she was looking for she was just hoping that she would find it. After sifting through the rocks, she found what she hoped would be the perfect rock to skip. It was round with just a slight oblong hint to its shape and smooth; it fit well in her palm. She knew that even the most perfect feeling rock could be deceiving though even though it seemed perfect it could be weighted funny and that could ruin the skip, but this was the first rock that she wanted to try and skip with.

Now that she had found her rock, she would hold it in her dominant hand letting her four fingers rest gently under in like they were cradling it. She would cock her shoulder back following with her hip. Pulling her hand back before going through with skipping it. Her hip stayed where it was in the through, but she followed through with her shoulder and flicked her wrist forward releasing the rock over the water waiting eagerly to see how far it would skip.

River slowly made her way down to the side of the lake where the stone-skipping competition would be held. She had heard about it from some students chatting outside of the cabins, and figured she had nothing better to do than check it out. Having a competition in skipping stones seemed like such a pointless thing to do. Though she supposed some people might find find it fun or amusing in some way. It was at least an interesting way to spend some time in the warm summer sun.
Oh merlin... the sun. It was shining bright today, and River was absolutely not very fond of it. Her mother had always stressed how important sunscreen was, so River put on a ton of it. Most likely, her skin would manage to get quite burnt anyway, this was why summer could be such a pain at times.
She had, that morning put on a long-sleeved sweater and some denim jeans, hopefully that would help protect against the sun for a little.

When she arrived down by the lake, there were already a few students present. Arc she knew from before, but the rest were strangers to the young Ravenclaw. Some had already begun trowing their rocks, and River wondered whether she’d even bother attempting to skip a single one. Perhaps she should rather just spectate the competitors?

Skipping stones seemed like such a waste of energy, of time, but then again, what better did she have to spend her time on?
Skipping rocks was absolutely not something River could do well, at least not in her previous attempts at home. Humiliation was certain if she even tried throwing one into the lake. Most likely, it would just plop right down and break the surface on the first jump.

Perhaps she’d just try one rock?
The thought was, in some strange way, tempting. River wasn’t a very competitive person, and she was definitely not a sore loser. Really, even if she did mess up the first throw, and make a pathetic attempt, she didn’t really care. She didn’t care what the others thought of her ability to throw rocks, that was silly. Worrying about that was a complete waste of time.

The red-haired girl searched the ground thoroughly for a stone that looked fitting for the task at hand. She found one that looked nice and smooth, flat, round... good enough.
She walked steadily over to the edge of the water, took a breath and attempted the throw. With a nice controlled flick of her wrist, the stone soared out of her small hand and out towards the water, as she watched closely.

The First Round

@Serena Towers was among the first ones to throw the stone. She had picked an excellent quality stone and it should be able to skip across the lake quite nicely. The Hufflepuff did not have that much upper body strength but it was not the only thing that mattered in this competition. Her stone skipped 14 times before it slowly fell into the deep deep lake. She did not manage to pass the floating target on the lake.

Next up, there was @Tatiana Crane. She also chose wisely and got an excellent quality stone. The Ravenclaw threw the flat rock with quite an oomph. The stone accurately passed the floating target and stopped after the 16th skip. That was not an easy feat. She did quite well.

After her, one @Santario Martin also joined the fray. She picked an average quality rock and threw it to the lake. That stone just kept on skipping before finally losing its momentum after 22 skips. Amazing! The stone did not even went close to the target, but the young snake did not even need that to have one of the highest scores in the round.

Last but not least, there was @River Dewlight. She also picked an average quality rock, just like most students. She threw it at the lake and it skipped 6 times all and all. The stone did not reach the target as well. But not many pass the target in the first place. So, she should not feel too bad. It was not a bad throw per se. But it certainly would not be the best. She still had two more chances, though! River should just think of it as a warm-up.

There will be more two more rounds. Any of you can post anytime. No posting order. But all of you will only have 96 hours time to post, starting from the time of this post, do not wait for others. Fail to do that and you will be considered as skipping the round. Pun intended.

She realized as the rock left her hand it was not as good of rock as she had first thought but it was not bad either. It skipped across the water in short little skips her lips moving silently as she counted out how far it went… 22. It skipped more than she expected it to for the distance that it went. This time she would try to find a more superior rock hopefully keeping the skip ratio but adding some distance. Her sharp sapphire eyes moved to the ground after watching River’s rock skip out into the lake, she had been too preoccupied with finding her own rock to watch the two who went before her. She did, however, note that she seemed to be the youngest here winning would come as a huge surprise if she did.

Crouching down her fingers carefully picked over the rocks looking for one that was similar to the one she found before flat with a small crest, slightly oval, and smooth. She took her time doing this not really caring if that would make her the last to skip or not patience was key here a bad rock could plop in and sink right to the bottom like a cannonball and that would just be plain embarrassing. She had picked up many of rocks and put them back down not quite satisfied, it was then that she shifted her crouch to look at rocks more to her left causing her shadow to shift and her eyes were drawn to a streak of orange-red that lit up in the sun. It was the only one out of the pile that she liked so far. Picking it up she felt it in her hand, and it seemed to be weighted well, smooth in her fingers, yes this would do. Hopefully, the beauty of the rock did not betray her.

Raising back up she would approach then edge of the water stepping her right foot back behind her letting her shoulder follow back with her stance. She would make a few mock throws without letting go of the rock adjusting minorly after each one. “Okay…” She murmured to herself. This time she took a deep breath in releasing it as she threw her rock angling it just slightly like she did last time only she flicked her wrist a little harder hoping that it would help give her the same skips but the distance needed to properly pass that target. Although she skipped rocks at home she had never done it as a competition so trying to adjust to make it better was just not something she was used to. She would watch its performance intently after it left her fingers not trying to be rude to the other competitors she just wasn't great at social interaction especially when it came to starting it.

Serena glanced over her shoulder as she heard a voice, "Hi, I'm Serena," She introduced herself as she returned a smile. She would have offered her hand for a handshake, as a good girl should. But she was too busy throwing stones into the water, which would cause her mother much dismay to hear. So Serena chose to continue throwing the stones. She snorted a 'pfffft' sound, "If only! More like a beginner attempt!" She replied, definitely amused by the idea of being a hardcore competitor. She shook her head, "No no, someone sort of showed me how to do it in my first year here so... I thought I'd just give it another go and practice a bit, yanno?" the girl continued her reply, honestly.

She blinked as she watched her stone skipped multiple times. It actually went a whole lot further than she imagined. It was not nearly as impressive as some of the others attempts but woah, Serena was still impressed with herself. The last time she tried this, it failed to even do a few skips. This, by her own standards, was incredible. "Woah, your shot was amazing!" She continued, noticing how far Tatiana's attempt went.

Looking around, she spotted another stone that looked similar to the last one. She figured she would try and pick something similar, in the hopes that the results would be the same! Serena grabbed the stone and swung her arm in the air, releasing it into the water for another attempt.

Tatiana watched wide-eyed as her rock did an impressive sixteen skips on the surface, passing the floating target. Pure luck, she thought to herself, nervous her second attempt wouldn't be up to the same standards. She stepped back to spectate as two other students joined the competition, picking their rocks and skipping them across the lake. A Ravenclaw girl she'd met once, River, managed six quick skips across the water, but the other, a Slytherin girl she'd never seen before, got an astounding twenty-two skips with her rock!

As it appeared no one else was going to join in, she took a few steps around where she'd been standing, hoping to find a rock of at least similar quality to the first one she'd been able to snag. She grabbed a medium sized one that was nicely polished and held it in her hand, weighing it against how the last one had felt. Like you even know what you're looking for here, came the skeptical voice in her head again. She tossed it up a few times in her hand, before pressing it into her palm and taking a deep breath. Stone skipping was just supposed to be a bit of fun, but Tatiana couldn't help but feel a bit of her competitive nature creeping in. Oh well, here goes nothing. Shrugging, she took a few more steps toward the water, before reaching back and tossing out her second rock.
