The Astronomy Class
☽ Observation Times ☾
Astronomy classes can be thought of as having two components. Much time is spent in the great lecture hall and lab. This is where you would hear lectures, work with the various instruments we have, work on any written assignments, learn and practice in-class spells, listen to spellbinding and engaging tales, and even enjoy the view of our enchanted planetarium!
There are also times when direct observation of the skies is needed, and students would then be up on the tower roof with their telescopes happily pointed skyward! Because there are seven years and only five class days, you can assume that there may be times when two or more years will be on the Astronomy Tower at one time.
In common with the other classes, astronomy does not impose a set class schedule. Out of character, this is done for several reasons. First, I really don't want to have to moderate Mey for saying that her first year class meets on Thursdays at 10pm which conflicts with Ali who says her sixth year class and Finn his third year class all meet at that same time, only to discover that no one at all seems to want to have class on Friday night! Second, I am just happy when you guys trudge up all fourteen thousand six-hundred ninety seven steps to get to the top of the tower, just so you can break curfew to watch the stars! Hogwarts.io is first and foremost a roleplay site: so, as far as a class schedule goes, you and your roleplay partners are free to determine which nights and times you have class, which nights are free.
If you'd like to write at a specific time of night, feel free to check out sunset and sunrise times for Inverness, Scotland (the nearest city), so you can plan your late night rule breaking! Otherwise, assume that lectures & practice occur "in the evening" or "some time after dinner" and that observation time occurs "after dark" or "during the night".
