Trying to not seem like an annoyance Lark sat on the other side of James quietly as the boys talked. She tried to listen to get a better understanding of what was going on.

"I'm sure I'll be fine, I'll cope just like I always do."  Logan spoke.

The girl felt a twinge of guilt. She had probably added to it and made a mental note to apologize when they were out of the Hall. James seemed to know exactly what to say. Breathing a sigh of relief, Lark stashed the candies back in her skirt pocket.

James had asked her about sending an owl. She was pretty sure it was the same as at home, except she didnt have her family owl here but that was to be expected.

"We can head ta the Owlery. They probably 'ave got a lot of owls for students ta use. If we go over I can show ye." Lark tidied up her plate and silverware unsure of how they cleaned here but never wanting to leave a mess. At home her mother mainly did it as their family line had given up house elves years ago.

She waited as James invited Logan along before pointing out, "We could head back ta the Common room all te'gether after too for your shirt." She motioned towards the orange stain on James' uniform. Another thing she had unintentionally mucked up.

No worries! You could just say its another letter? Or did you have a thread for the first one?

I had a thread for the first one, and like an idiot I locked it, assuming that I would be doing everything in chronological order completely.

Also I would post a response, but most of what you said, you said to James, not Logan, so it'd be much harder for me to reach 200 words, so I'll wait for James' response before I respond.

Scrabbling away from the dais and the eyes of the entire hall, Clem pulled himself onto a seat at the table, uncaring of who he sat near. He could still feel a full flush crossing his cheeks. Really, did they have to do the ceremony right there, where everyone could see? He heaved a sigh, pulling a hand through his dirty blond curls, forgetting the tie that was holding them back in the process. It fell to the floor, drifting under the table. Great. He was going to have to go and get it now.

Clambering to his knees, he scrambled under the table, reaching out until he felt the familiar satin of the ribbon. His fingers closed around it, and he began to sit up, forgetting for a moment the table above him. Ow.

More careful this time, he pulled himself up onto his seat. Chewing on his lip, he stared up and down the table. There really were a lot of people here. And food. He hadn't noticed until now just how much food the table held. How does it not break under all that weight, he wondered idly, pulling a bread basket and stick of butter towards himself. He really hoped that no one had seen his whole debacle with the hair tie. After all, this was his entrance to a brave new world and he had already tripped. Twice.

"We could head back ta the Common room all te'gether after too for your shirt."

James looked down at his torso sheepishly, only just now noticing the conspicuous orange stain around his middle.

"Yeah, I reckon that sound like a goo-" his reply was interrupted by a thud and the emergence of a boy with dirty blond hair from beneath the table.

"Are you ok?" he said to the boy, who was tying up his hair with a silk ribbon, "That sounded like a pretty bad bump."

James stuck out his hand.

"I'm James, and this is Lark and this is Logan. We're kind of the cool kids here at the Ravenclaw table and we're considering inviting you to be a part of our group. But first you've got to eat one of these..."

He slid a violet-coloured jellybean toward the boy and gave him a wide grin.

James felt caught up in the rush of making new friends. His mind shifted to worry for a moment as he hoped the boy didn't think his joke had been serious. He wasn't entirely sure what was considered "cool" at Hogwarts but he was quite certain that a gorky eleven year old with a Jurassic Park backpack was not even close to it.

Lark was about to stand when the table shook and another boy appeared. She couldn't imagine how much that had to hurt and winced in sympathy. These tables had to be so old and made out of some pretty darn sturdy trees.

"I'm James, and this is Lark and this is Logan. We're kind of the cool kids here at the Ravenclaw table....

Lark gave a bit of a wave to the curly haired boy as James introduced them. 'Cool kids! Lark gave a short laugh. I mean to her they were already the cool kids, who knew how everyone else would feel about that. Did she really care though? If these were her friends the rest of her life, that was all she needed cool or not! James slid a bean towards the boy. It felt like they group of them already had a sort of secret handshake.

'Is this what it really feels like to have friends..'A warm feeling swept over Lark as she watched the others interact with one another. It had been a long time since she had felt this way. Sure her parents filled a large section of her heart and life, but the last year or so she had a sort of void growing in her chest. It wasn't just the past couple months here that had made her feel a million miles away from her parents. Every since her mother had shared the news about being pregnant both of her parents had made less and less time for her.

Pulling herself back to the present trying to not let her mind wander as it was dangerous territory that could end in tears, Lark smiled at the blonde haired boy.

"Just be careful! Could be annnnyyy flavor!" She stretched the word out playfully. What else could a violet bean taste like other than grape? It couldn't be that bad! Plus if it meant finding another friend then she was all in at this point.

Logan turned when he noticed another boy sit nearby. He smiled at the introduction James gave. 'Cool kids'? Nah, no way was he cool. But they didn't need to be cool. Being friends was definitely more than enough for Logan.

"As James said, my name's Logan." He smiled at the new boy to the table. "What's yours?"

He noticed the other's hair tie and smiled, his own hair being in a small bun afterall. So that's something in common, in a way. I mean, they'd both let their hair grow long enough to need to tie it up.

He noticed James hand yet another bean to the new boy, and what both him and Lark said about eating the bean. He decided he should probably reassure the boy, and get rid of the blatent peer pressure the other two created with their words.

"You don't actually have to eat the bean to join us, though. I didn't but I'm still in the group. It's your choice whether you eat it. They both did, and got bad flavours. I didn't wish to risk it, because there are actually a lot of 'good' flavours that I don't like, so my chances of something I like were much lower than a normal person's. You might get lucky, but could still get unlucky."

Clem blinked for a moment, staring at the barrage of introductions. But then a smile split across his face as he shook James hand.

"Hi, I'm Clem!" he said to the other first years, rubbing the place where he had bumped his head sheepishly, "And I'm fine. Honest. I have a tendency of doing stuff like that, so I've just? gotten used to it I suppose."

Were these really the "cool kids"? he wondered. Even if they weren't, they seemed friendly and he was always ready to make new friends here. His grin grew even wider and he gestured to the bean he asked, "And are these really every flavor? I'm not used to jelly beans being anything other than fruits really." Turning towards Logan, he said "Thanks for the reassurance. But I think I'll take my chances, I'm almost always excited to try something new!

He popped the bean into his mouth, chewing slowly. "I think? That it's eggplant," he said to the other first years, "But that was so neat! Are there other type of candies like this? I don't, uh, have a ton of experience with all this wizarding stuff. My parents don't have magic.

If this was what the wizarding world was like, and if these were the kinds of people that he would meet, then he was all too happy that he had gotten his letter. He hadn't quite believe it at the time, but here, in this hall, the reality of the situation slowly drifted over him and his already wide grin grew wider.

Oooh! Both James and Clem are muggle born! That's cool! Both Logan and Lark are listed as fullblood, though I have read Lark's species thingie and know she's not exactly full blood wizard. Though none of these characters know that right now.

Logan smiled at the new boy, Clem. Clem seemed nice so far, which was good. The boy chose to try the bean, but did thank Logan for reassuring him, which was nice. "You're welcome, Clem. I didn't want you to feel too peer-pressured by James and Lark, because they were, if unintentionally, piling up a lot of peer-pressure for you to try the jelly bean."

He watched when Clem tried the bean, and listened. "Eggplant? I wouldn't've liked that." He shook his head. "But that's probably meant to be one of the 'nice' flavours, hence why I avoided trying the pink one they gave me."

He smiled when Clem asked lots of questions. A muggleborn like James seemed to also be, huh? Logan was really interested to meet muggleborns, he had lots of questions for them himself, though he figured other full-blood wizards had way more than him, as he had a lot more experience with muggle objects and muggle kids than most other full-blood wizards. "Oh, there are lots of different magical sweets out there. The one you already tried one of are called Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans. As the name says, they are literally any flavour imaginable. You got Eggplant. Meanwhile, there are also collectible chocolate frogs. The chocolate itself can leap around like a frog, but with a chocolate frog you always get a collectible card! They're all on famous wizards of the past." Logan smiled. "There's others too, but it's probably better to show you at some point."

James smiled, enjoying Logan's straightforward approach. It was honestly rather a refreshing pace, he was rather unlike most other wizards James had met and James liked him very much for that.

James felt a rush of excitement when Clem also revealed that he was muggle-born. It felt nice to have somebody else among his friends who shared and understood his experience. Clem was a little like his Jurassic Park backpack in a way. An anchor point that attached him to his old life in some small way.

He grinned, "Don't worry about that. My parent's are non-magical too, but my friend, Lark, here is an expert! She's pure-blood," James patted, Lark on the shoulder affectionately, "So we'll work this stuff out all together, yeah? The four of us."

He looked around at the group, the silver-haired girl with golden eyes, who looked like something out of a fairy-tale (and who he secretly hoped would be is best friend this year), the slightly-uncomfortable boy with a tight bun and square glasses, and the newest member to their little group with long dirty-blonde curls and a ribbon in his hair. Maybe this could be his place. Perhaps he could be a wizard after all.

He raised his goblet, "We need like a name or something... we could be a group! Uh- like the Fantastic Four... or like... I don't know... Lark have you go any ideas?"

Lark watched as Clem introduced himself and went on with partaking of the now infamous bean ceremony. He didnt seem too bummed over the flavor or have quite the reaction the others had, had.

Clem went on to ask about the candies, which Lark was pretty excited about. Magical sweets was the one thing she had been able to share with her father at home so it was definitely something she enjoyed sharing with others as well. As she was about to open her mouth to respond, Logan informed the blonde boy about two of the various wizarding treats.

"He's right, there are quite a lot. Be better ta just show ye when we get the chance!" Lark made a mental note to thank her father for stashing what he had in her trunk so she could let her friends indulge later on. Another Muggle born like James! That was good, hopefully it would make him feel less worried about being around others from wizarding families. Plus, more of an opportunity for her to learn all that she could about Muggle culture.

"Don't worry about that. My parent's are non-magical too, but my friend, Lark, here is an expert! She's pure-blood-"

A rosey flush spread across Lark's cheeks once more as she gave a small smile in response to the compliment. She was definitely not used to this although it did feel nice. How lucky she had been James took the seat next to her.

"Agreed!"

Grabbing for her goblet she raised it alongside James' and gave a nod.

"Fantastic Four?" Lark gave her head a tilt. "Are they as cool as us?" She kidded having not a clue what a Fantastic Four could be almost sounded like a Quidditch play. Sounded very fun though!

"Nifty Nifflers!" She paused. Bad idea. Shaking her head she laughed nervously. So much for a clever Ravenclaw. "Sorry! My brain is a little tired from the day." Feeling slight pressure to come up with something really great she was made painfully aware just how little social interaction she had, had up until now with others her age. She looked to Clem and Logan. "Any ideas you two?"
