Airlia woke up, early in the morning as always and made her way to the great hall for breakfast. She was still sleepy and starving since she'd missed dinner the night before and hadn't felt like eating at the common rooms. For a Hufflepuff that was saying something. For some odd reason, Airlia had lost her appetite the night before and even wondered if someone had sent a curse her way during classes or something.

But her appetite sure had made a full recovery as she was speeding along the halls, following the scent of delicious food. Freshly baked bread was one of her favorite smells.

In such a hurry to eat, Airlia didn't really watch where she was going and was quick in her movements to pile up food to a plate and sit down. She wasn't even moderately surprised to see the confused faces of Gryffindors when she took her first bite of an apple and looked up. She'd gone to the wrong table...

Again...

But too tired and lazy quite frankly, to move to another table, Airlia just smiled and said: "Nice to meet you all, I'm Airlia Winter and I'm a first year Hufflepuff."

She straightened her back and tried to look as royal as ever to battle through the embarrassment that was making her cheeks flush. Her mother's voice echoed in her head; commanding her to be a proper lady and not show her mistakes in situations like this. 'Always keep your dignity and grace, no matter the cost.' She took this as an opportunity to expand her friend circles to another house. Gryffindors were adventurous and chivalrous, what could go wrong with being their friend? Sounded like great friends in Airlia's head at least.

She sent a warm smile to the girl sitting next to her. She had ginger hair that wasn't as out there as some of the gingers Airlia had seen before. It was that nice color between orange and brown that looked natural but would probably look like fire in the sun. She had freckles but looked a little tired. Like she hadn't been sleeping too well.

Airlia was just about to speak to the girl when she heard the familiar screech of owls above them. Like every morning at this hour, owls flew down to students to bring them mail. Letters, magazines, packages, and howlers to the poor sods that had been caught breaking school rules on such a large scale, that their parents had been notified.

The sounds of flapping wings and packages being dropped on tables filled the great hall again as students looked above, hopeful in getting a letter.

Just then a package of white paper, tied with string flopped down in front of Airlia. She gave the huge, black owl delivering it a cookie and watched it fly away.

Happily opening the package, Airlia received a letter from Ezekiel, he friend from Dumstrang.

Dear Airlia.
I've had fun here and gotten to a whole lot of trouble already. I've had the best time. I hope my gift that will arrive with this letter will bring adventure into your life as well.
Because we both know; you won't find trouble on your own!
Love,
Ezekiel

A little horrified, Airlia unwrapped the package to find a big book with a worn out brown cover. She flipped it open and saw some of the most horrifying things in her life.

Instructions to advanced potions, of a very dark nature, filled the old pages. There were pictures of vile things that might just give Airlia nightmares and gruesome side effects to badly made potions.

With a small gasp, she slammed the book closed, pressed it to her chest and covered it with her robes, looking around to see if anyone noticed.

To her horror, a girl with ginger hair and brown eyes was looking straight at her.

Awkwardly with a voice that was close to a whisper, Airlia offered: "Want an adventure?"

Marla Quinlan as per usual, was completely and utterly exhausted. She had surprisingly gotten more than a few hours of sleep, to say the least, but the countless all-nighters the poor girl had been pulling were catching up to her brain. Even then, with her eyes half closed, encircled by exhausted darkness, she did make an effort to seem more awake. Her usual slightly messy hair was slicked back in a low ponytail, and in replacement of robes with a small red and gold emblem, she had slapped on some jeans and a nicer-than-usual t-shirt. Still looking like a hot mess, but an improvement nonetheless.

Soon after, the girl made her way to the dining hall with a book in hand as per usual. Most of her peers were... Interesting, to say the least. And so, to survive the loud and hyper nature of her fellow Gryffindors, Marla brought a book every day to at least attempt to tolerate them. Spoiler alert: it never works. But anywho, Marla really couldn't be that angry every day. Yes, it was the morning. Yes, mornings sucked. But what came in the morning? Breakfast. One of the things that Hogwarts does absolutely and positively right. Between the endless amounts of french toast, eggs, hashbrowns... Who could be upset?

And with this thought in mind, Marla finally plopped down in her usual spot at the table with countless students draped in red and gold, anticipating the morning feast. But before the girl could even look at the cover on her book, a silky voice spoke, followed by most of the people around her growing irritated looks on their faces.
"Nice to meet you all, I'm Airlia Winter and I'm a first year Hufflepuff." A voice, apparently Airlia spoke. Marla looked around for the source of the voice and found a significantly pretty girl with nearly white hair and light blue eyes. She (no offense) obviously didn't belong, kind of looked like a puppy dog in a pack of wolves in a way. What was a Hufflepuff doing at the Gryffindor table? It seemed she wasn't the only one asking herself those questions, as she heard the same thing being asked to other students around the elongated table.

But before she could spark a conversation with the Hufflepuff, the flapping of wings was heard throughout the room, and immediately, Marla recognized what time it was. Owls. The only reason she would look forward to those were if her Uncle sent her an owl... But most of the time he was busy at work. Today was no different. To her dismay, she got nothing. Unlike the pretty Hufflepuff, whose eyes shined as a package was dropped in front of her. Marla watched closely, seeing her pull a letter out from the square shaped gift. Was it her birthday? Was that why Airlia was so happy? It seemed not, since the girl looked more and more upset as she read through the note. Soon enough, she looked just a tad terrified and ripped open the paper, pulling out a leathery brown book with the title almost completely worn off. Now this was exciting. Marla was a complete sucker for books, and loved nothing more than to curl up by a warm fire and read for hours. Airlia... Not so much. Something was either absolutely horrifying in that book, or the Hufflepuff just loathed reading, because she slammed the damned thing shut and held it close to her chest, concealing it with her robes. She then spotted Marla staring, which was so terribly embarrassing that she flushed a bright red, reminiscent to the fiery shade of her hair. She looked Marla straight in the eyes, and whispered something that she would never expect;

"Want an adventure?"

Marla nodded, not only entranced by the girl's beauty, but by the thought of being able to get her hands on that book.. She had to read it now. Even if it would curse her for life or something like that... And in this case, she certainly hoped that curiosity wouldn't kill the cat.

"About that book? Yes." She remarked enthusiastically, followed by an almost sinister grin, an equally mischievous and threatening glint in her eyes.

Airlia smiled as she chose to try and act casual. She didn't want to attract too much attention so she took an apple, bit into it and whispered: "Let's go."

She got up and swiftly made her way to the corridor right outside the great hall. She leaned against the wall and waited for the red-headed girl to follow her. When she did appear Airlia waved her over.

She felt nervous. This book... Was bad... Worse than bad since it was strictly forbidden. Airlia wasn't sure if she could get expelled for having a forbidden book, but she could surely get into a whole lot of trouble for possessing it.

Detention did not sound welcoming to her. Especially knowing how her mother would react: 'Airlia Winter you are coming home right now! Hogwarts clearly isn't the place for you, time to go back to your etiquette training.'

Shuddering at the thought Airlia looked around, making sure that no one was wandering around the entrance of the great hall which they stood by and took a step closer to the Gryffindor girl so no one surely would hear her as she spoke.

The girl she was with looked interested. She had that little spark in her eye that ignited a flame in her brown eyes, revealing that she was indeed looking for adventure. Finding it at the breakfast table in the form of a doe-eyed Hufflepuff probably wasn't exactly how she had thought she'd find it.

After all, Hufflepuffs aren't really known for getting in trouble for breaking rules like the Gryffindors are. But Airlia could use a bit of courage, and this girl from Gryffindor seemed heaven sent as she knew she'd found the one that'll really help her with the book.

"This is Moste Potente. It's a forbidden potions book that can be found from the school's restricted section. It's full of dark potions with terrible side effects and it's never borrowed out to students. Especially the first years. This is something I could get in big trouble for." She ran her fingers down the cover of the book, feeling it's age and how worn down it was. It felt rough beneath her fingertips and she was worried the book might even break under her fingers.

You can't return a broken book that's this valuable. Surely then there would be a whole investigation and the book would be traced back to her. No, no one can even notice the book was ever gone. Airlia prayed in her head that the librarian hadn't done her daily check of the restricted section. A book this heavy would stand out if it was missing from the shelf, creating a huge space where it should reside.

Airlia looked at the girl for any signs of regret for getting into this mess but got none. The girl seemed almost more excited.

"I need to get this back to the restricted section where it belongs. Do you think you could help me?" Airlia asked, offering the book for the girl to scroll through. "You can still back out." Airlia offered, hoping with all her might that the girl wouldn't. She needed her help and quite desperately at that.

They say curiosity killed the cat. But maybe the cat might survive if she had a lookout.

[quote]As soon as Marla responded to the nervous Hufflepuff with extreme enthusiasm, she smiled and whispered for them to leave. She obliged, definitely not wanting to pass up the opportunity to read that book. Airlia made her way to the small hall while the redhead followed close behind, but not so much that people thought they were together. That way, if they were caught, Marla could possibly take the blame. If they were breaking the rules of course, which was definitely what it seemed like. Mostly because if they got caught, she honestly wouldn't forgive herself if she let the poor blonde take the brute of the punishment. The Gryffindor didn't think detention was that bad, but what if it got back to the girl's parents? Who knew if they were super strict? She'd be screwed.

As she met up with Airlia, it seemed that the girl was, in fact, a bit scared about something. What could be so terrible in something as unsuspecting as a book? While Marla's amber eyes had a mischievous glint, Airlia's almost looked as if she were petrified. At her peak of anticipation, the Hufflepuff began to speak, causing excited chills to run down her spine. Hogwarts had been so boring lately, and there was finally something worth delving herself into! Oh, this girl was an angel.

"This is Moste Potente. It's a forbidden potions book that can be found from the school's restricted section. It's full of dark potions with terrible side effects and it's never borrowed out to students. Especially the first years. This is something I could get in big trouble for." While most would probably run for the hills, a smile crept across her face, and soon enough, Marla looked as if she were glowing. This was so worth it! So worth missing breakfast, so worth putting down her book, and so, so worth possibly getting expelled for. Even though that meant going back to her wicked grandmothers house (ew), this would be a day to remember for sure.

"No way!" She said a bit too loud, completely consumed in delirium. How could she not? In the midst of all the boredom, she struck gold with this girl and her book. Well, the book was full of evil stuff apparently, but still! She at least needed one tiny glance of it... Just for a second! Or two. Or three.. It seemed that Marla's suspicions of the book being practically ancient were right, because Airlia was being extremely delicate with it, as if she were to touch it in the wrong place it would crumble to dust. Marla couldn't blame her, if she encountered a piece that old and valuable as well, Marla would treat it as her (nonexistent, of course) child. "How'd you get your hands on a book like this?" She gushed, awe laced in her voice as she glanced at the book dreamily.

"I need to get this back to the restricted section where it belongs. Do you think you could help me?" The girl questioned in an almost desperate tone. Marla responded with about a thousand eager nods, wanting to get started on their quest of sorts so desperately that it was perilous. "You can still back out." Marla let out a scoff in acknowledgment, gladly taking the book from Airlia's grasp.

"Who do you think I am? There's no way I'm backing out of this. But if I help, would I be able to take a few pages from the book before we give it back?" Marla begged with a look of false sincerity in her eyes. There was no way in hell she was backing out. With an unyielding urge to soak in every drop of information she could from the book, Marla opened the book and looked through. The first thing that caught her eye was a... Laxative potion? Eugh. No wonder this book is forbidden. She scrunched up her nose and flipped through the next few pages, soon spotting something much, much more interesting. It was called a polyjuice potion, and apparently, you could change your appearance to whoevers hair was put into the successfully brewed potion. Marla didn't exactly need it with being a metamorph, but that didn't mean it wasn't intriguing. She wanted to read more on it, but the two girls had some work to do. So she shut the book and looked back up to the Hufflepuff with a smile.
"So, where do we start?"

"T-Take a few pages? What? No. It needs to be returned in the perfect condition so no one gets suspicious." Airlia said, feeling uncomfortable over the question and holding the book better against her chest so she wouldn't accidentally drop it. She bit her lip and studied the girl for a moment. She was obliviously a Gryffindor but looked innocent enough.

Airlia really could use some Gryffindor courage in this but the reckless part was exactly what she needed to avoid. They had to be sneaky, silent and effective in getting rid of this wretched book.

The book felt rugged under Airlia's fingertips and holding it was uncomfortable. She just wanted to throw it on the floor and run, leaving it to be the responsibility of whoever finds it next. However, someone could use it for bad and Airlia almost subconsiousöly knew that she couldn't just leave the book somewhere. It needed to be placed in its own spot and left there with care. Preferably under a dozen spells that'll make sure no one gets hold of it again. Especially a student up top no good.

"It was sent to me by a friend as a prank. I think he finds this all amusing but I could get into a lot of trouble and I don't even know how he got hold of it. He doesn't even go to this school. He attends Durms-" Suddenly Airlia halted. Durmstrang was known for having dark arts a part of its curriculum. The book couldn't be from Hogwarts restricted section. It was from Durmstrang.

Airlia should have realized this the second she got the book, but as always she was a little too slow to get revelations that quickly.

At this point, any other student would have also not handed the book to the Gryffindor girl. Especially when she'd asked to have a few pages of it. But careless, naive and slightly stupid as she was, Airlia went ahead and handed the old priceless book over to the other girl with a smile, anyway.

"Actually forget that. We just need to destroy the book. I think we should burn it." Airlia gave the girl a small smile. "I'm Airlia by the way. A first-year Hufflepuff. Nice to meet you."

Airlia wondered where they could burn the book and the common room was obliviously a great answer but they were from different houses. So that wouldn't work... Teachers had fireplaces in their offices and so did the headmaster but frankly going there would be risky. Airlia wanted to avoid getting detention to no end. She didn't want to have to explain that to her parents. They would freak out and write one of those icy calm letters written in perfect calligraphy that still gives her the creeps as she reads of their rage between the lines.

No... Detention was not something Airlia was willing to risk!

[quote]Disheartening the situation became, for Airlia was passionately against keeping even a trace of the book left behind. She frowned, watching her arms wrap even tighter around the piece of literature. Marla so desperately wanted to rip it out of her hands and tear through it, so curious about what was inside that it hurt. Wait, no! That was stealing. It was wrong. Right? So why did her arms burn with temptation? Marla shook the thought out of her head, rubbing her hands together. That nervous energy had to be put somewhere. She bounced on the balls of her feet, wondering what she could say to woo this girl into giving her that book.. "Who's going to take out such a scary book from the library anyway, though?" She began, crossing her arms and shuffling closer with a smug look shining in her big golden eyes. "I mean, anyone who took it out won't be up to any good. Have you seen this thing? If it's in the hands of someone responsible like me, I don't see what could go wrong." She shrugged innocently, looking off to the side. What's the worst that could happen if she got the book? There's no way that she would let anyone see it. Marla covered her mouth casually and grinned devilishly at the excitement for the adventure unfolding before her. This was going to be good.

The sheer amount of envy Marla held towards the girl was almost visually radiating off her body as she watched the rugged book get tossed around in her fingertips. She groaned quietly, staring at it with invaluable intent. Before she was able to speak again to try to convince the Hufflepuff to at least let her scan through the book, she began to tell her where it came from. A prank? Who would send that to someone as a prank? Marla would think of it as a glorious gift. The way that it was apparently so forbidden, Marla needed to know why. A chill went down her spine as the thoughts began to scurry across her mind. Dark magic? Poison? Could it even be something worse?

Looking up at Airlia, it seemed that she had some sort of epiphany. "What?" She asked, furrowing her brows. A pit filled her stomach as she realized that the badger could realize that Marla was just trying to get her hands on the book. A nervous laugh escaped her lips as she rubbed the nape of her neck. "I mean– are we getting started or what?" if Marla rushed her, she wouldn't have time to make the decision to eliminate her from the book scheme! Right? Yes. This would work.

Oh no. Abort plan. Abort. Mayday! She wanted to burn the book?! Was this girl crazy? Her smirk faltered, shifting into an idiotic look of shock and desperation. "N-no! That would make it even worse. If someone happened to find us out, if they realized we burned a valuable book like this one, we would be dead meat. Instead, we should either put it back where it was or hide it somewhere good." She scrambled for any good arguments so that she would at least be able to read a few pages of the damn thing. The worst situation was that she would have to rip out a few pages or take it while Airlia wasn't looking.

To make it even worse, Airlia officially introduced herself. What if Marla actually liked her and they became friends? It would make it that much harder to take the book. She couldn't get attached to another person.. "I know. I mean, I overheard you saying your name and stuff at the table. Still unsure why you sat with us, but you do you, I guess." She shrugged nonchalantly, pulling her too large robes higher so that she wouldn't trip on them while walking. "I'm Marla. First-year Gryffindor." She returned the smile, twiddling with her fingers. Maybe if Airlia trusted her more, she would be more lenient about giving the book to Marla? Yes. That could work! Suppressing a smile pulling at the corners of her lips, she looked up to Airlia with an innocent glare in her big eyes. "So I guess that makes us friends, huh?" Okay. That's it. She was a terrible person. This was the first time that Marla ever really manipulated anyone. Of course, she was unsure of what it was, but it was manipulating nonetheless. And it was terrifying. Why was she doing this? It was horrible. No. She had to. For the book. For the book.

An artificial display of cheerfulness danced on her face as she stepped closer to Airlia. It made it that much worse how innocent and just.. Oblivious the blonde looked. But she needed to push through. "It's nice to meet you.. But shall we figure out a plan?"
