Closed Curious creatures and where to find them

The early december air was chilly. The snow laid like a thick blanket across the frozen ground. There were no leaves left on the trees anymore. There hadn't been any for months. William had wrapped his green and silver scarf up to his nose in order to escape the cold. The sun had already started to set as it was just after dinner. William had rushed through his meal and had his pockets packed with food stolen from the table. Mostly sweets but a few potatoes and a chicken thigh as well. The prefects had almost caught him with the chicken thigh. Thankfully another student happened to distract him just in time. The food of course was needed in order to catch the creature. But he wasn't quite sure what to feed it.

William had been in the library for hours researching the creature he wanted to catch today. But nowhere in all the books in the library did it say what the creature ate. All the info on the creature was how to kill it or get rid of it. William wanted to catch it and keep it as a pet. Maybe he'd write his own book on how to catch and care for magical creatures.

He had his book with magical creatures under one arm. His wand tucked safely down amongst the sweets, and was carefully carrying two glass jars and a bug net as he trecked down the trampled path to the great lake. Thankfully the moon was bright enough to reflect against the snow and make it easier to see but he still held his head down to carefully watch his feet. He didn't want to stumble and get himself drenched in snow.

Silva shivered at the cold. It was clearly winter now. She hadn't prepared for that and was wearing her normal school robes. She now regretted that choice. She'd found the weather quite nice this fall. Neither too cold, nor too hot. Not anymore. Now it was freezing and snowy.

She probably should have seen the snow, but it was just after dinner and she'd decided to make a quick trip out. She almost wanted to head back inside, but she saw another kid out. A boy. Slytherin? If he was out she might as well stay with him.

She walked away from any lingering warmth of the Entrance Hall and into the darkness. It probably wasn't actually that late, but these days it got dark very early. Made it very unfun to go outside. No, unfun is not a word. Yes, I'm using it. She smiled a little. At least she could have fun in her head even when her body was telling her to curl up and die, or go inside. Whichever could happen first.

She followed after the boy. She wondered if he was doing something wrong. He seemed to be walking with quite a lot of stuff. Generally that and the fact that he was wandering during the cold, dark evening signaled that he wasn't exactly following the rules. Then again. Was she breaking any rules? Cause she was doing the exact same thing.

About 20 meters from the Entrance Hall she felt like falling over and groaning until someone came to her rescue. Her hands were frozen and her entire body was shaking with cold. She hurried up. Might as well just see what he's doing and then retreat as quickly as humanly possible. She quickly caught up to him. The moon illuminated what was in his hands. He seemed to be carrying several jars, a book, and a bug net. His pockets also seemed to be bulging.

She awkwardly said "H-hi... umm... wh-what are you d-doing out here......" She barely got the words out. Whether that was do to her natural shyness or her chattering teeth was unclear however. She thought it might be the combination of both. She sincerely hoped that he didn't return the question. If he did she'd be forced to say that she'd been following him.

William was walking along, hurrying down to the water's edge when he heard a set of feet trecking up in the snow behind him. Then he heard a girl's voice and swiftly turned around to see who it was and deduce if she would get him into trouble or not. His face was covered up to his nose with a thick scarf and a green, slytherin beanie was pushed down over his locks.

The girl looked like she had just stepped out of the great hall, completely unprepared for the weather. William couldn't help but wonder what she was doing so far out of the castle at this hour and in this weather dressed like that. He narrowed his eyes at her, not sure why she had decided to come up to him in the first place.

"Why?" William asked back. "Who are you? And what areyou doing out here?" William eyed her up and down. She was a pretty girl and the cold flush on her face gave her an even prettier colour. From her robe colours it seemed like she belonged to Ravenclaw, but William wasn't sure he had seen her before. He didn't really have a lot of classes with the ravenclaws it seemed. "You hardly seem dressed for the occasion. Are you cold?"

He was awkwardly trying to take off his thick scarf as he spoke. He managed to drop the bugnet in the snow as he got the scarf off and reached over to place it around her neck instead.

Silva felt very awkward. The boy had returned the question. Why the heck did he have to return the stupid question. She wanted to burst out what she was thinking which was 'I'm following you so what are you doing' but instead quietly mumbled "U-umm... uh... I- n-nothing m-much..."

She smiled weakly at his next question. Yes she was cold. Very cold. Freezing in fact. She was quite regretting coming to see this fellow firstie. But... he was nice. And he seemed to care about whether she was cold or not. It was still not worth coming into the cold, but it was a decent reward for having done so.

"Uh... y-yeah.... I uh.... didn't ch-check the weather......" Her teeth were chattering quite strongly the entire time she said that. It didn't particularly feel like her body wanted to cooperate with her right now.

She frowned as he appeared to be trying to take off his scarf. Why would anyone purposefully let themselves get colder. It was only once he began to put it over her head that she realized he was trying to help her get warm.

Her cheeks flushed up a little bit. He was sacrificing his own scarf, for her? That was so sweet. She was still freezing but it really helped. "Th-thank you...... um... I actually came out cause... I was following you...." She felt bad now after he'd been so nice, but she felt like she owed him the truth that she hadn't trusted he wasn't a troublemaker.
