Jay wandered into the library, altogether unsure of where he was. Still brand new to the school, he had decided that their was no way to spend his time that day that could possibly be better than conducting a personal exploration throughout the enormous castle. He had been meandering about for what surely must be hours at this point, studying everything he saw intently, hardly even aware of the presence of any other students who had passed him by, which wasn't a terribly large number, considering that most students were either home for the break or attending summer camp. He knew he should get his backside to summer camp eventually, seeing as that was the whole reason he had come to Hogwarts early, but for now, he was simply too intrigued by the castle itself to care about much else.
His eyes, which had spent most of the day widened in amazement, roamed over the seemingly countless books resting on rows and rows of bookshelves. It seemed to him like a great forest of knowledge, just waiting for him to discover things that he never could have imagined in his wildest dreams. He had always enjoyed reading, though he figured this would be a bit excessive a task for his brain to attempt.
Shrugging, he made his way to the nearest bookshelf and picked out a book at random, not even bothering to check the title. He figured that his experience reading most of the books at a magical school would be about the same- he would open the book, strain his feeble brain for a few minutes before tossing the book aside in willing acceptance of the fact that he was a simpleton.
That scenario was a lot closer to the actual truth than Jay would have liked to admit. He found a comfortable chair, where he sat and opened the book. He examined a few pictures of plants he knew nothing of, read a few words that lacked the ability to tell him anything useful other than that the book had something to do with herbs, then slapped the book shut before setting it aside.
Folding his hands together across his stomach, Jay contented himself with merely having a comfortable seat from which to admire the breathtaking library.
As he breathed in the comforting scent of old paper and leather, hindsight kicked in, and he wondered if it may have helped his understanding of the book if he had started from the beginning.

She wasn't sure what she had hoped to accomplish when she persuaded her parents into letting her stay at the school over the summer break, but staying where she was supposed to be certainly wasn't it. On one hand, she had hoped to find someone to sneak around with and explore the castle and its ground in more depth, but either they were more adept at sneaking away or there simply weren't students inclined to such activities present.
Bummer.
So she resigned herself to the fact that she'd have to do it alone and had spent the last hour wandering around the school, darting into little spaces whenever she heard footsteps nearby. Upon spotting the library doors, she went in as she was not expecting anyone to willingly be in here when they could be outside. However, as she had been about to attempt to squeeze herself behind a bookshelf that seemed oddly placed compared to everything around it, that's when she heard it; the sigh of someone completely bored.
And perhaps someone that could be dragged into troublemaking.. Elowen thought to herself, quietly sneaking over to get a look at them first.
Well, the boy certainly looked like he could cause a spot of trouble once in awhile; Though that's the issue, isn't it, perceiving how someone is solely on their looks? Especially when you couldn't very well tell from behind. So with quick, light footed steps, she goes over to where he sat and looks down at the book with passing interest...for the moment.
"Whatcha reading there?"

Jay had lapsed into a light, dozing sleep, having been lulled by the smells and the stillness of the library; his head had initiated a sequence of dropping suddenly, his chin nearly hitting his chest before he would jolt awake, raise it back to its rightful positioning, then doze off again and begin the process all over again.
"Whatcha reading there?"
His dull, inattentive state meant that the sudden voice gave him quite an ample shock, causing him to jump ever so slightly, his hands flying to either side to grasp the armrests of the chair. He whipped his head around in a moment of almost panicked confusion before his eyes fell on the source of the voice that had so abruptly infiltrated his foggy brain.
Upon inspection of the offender, he found a girl staring back at him with a pair of lovely blue eyes. She had long, flowing brown hair, and he figured she would be his age, considering the lack of house robes, which would indicate that she had not yet been sorted into a house. Of course, that judgement could be completely wrong, as many of his were, and she could simply have a dislike for wearing her robes, at least during the summer. Come to the think of it, Jay really had no idea if any students even wore their robes during the summer... Probably not. The more he thought about it, the more realized that his brain was a useless peace of fluff.
Forcing his wandering mind to focus on the matter currently at hand, he remembered that she had asked him a question. Another moment of reflection brought back the nature of that question.
Looking at the book, he picked it up and examined the cover for a second or two, then placed it back on the table.
"To be honest," he said, turning his gaze back to the girl, I couldn't tell you anything past the information on the cover." A lop-sided grin reached his face, and he shrugged. "It all just seemed like gibberish to me, really. I fear they may all be that way for me." He cast an arm around the room, indicating the other books.
Remembering his manners, he pushed himself into a standing position and presented his hand to the stranger.
"I'm Jay," he said brightly. "And you are...?"
