In being lost, I found you
18th December 2019, 16.oo
With the holiday season, the Diagon alley appeared to be twice as enchanting, turning into a magical wonderland.
The sound of casual chatter and ringing of a distant laughter was enriched with the everpresent undertone of christmas carolls. Each and every store was drapped in it's unique set of decore. There were baubles of all colors and sizes, some even having small moving dioramas in them, garlands hanging high up on the eaves, or just levitating in the air, dotted with countless christmas lights and candles. Everything dazzled and shimmered under the dark stary sky. The snowflakes whirreled through the air, gentle and unintrusive, just another aspect adding to the atmosphere.
The sides of her chullo whipped around the seven-year-old Sabrina's head as she swivelled it around, unable to decide where to look first. Her wide-eyed expression and gasps of wonder were a great source of entertainment for her parents. Upon telling their daughter about how gorgeous the place was during the holiday season, she practically begged them to go, jumping with excitement when they gladly complied her wishes.
The plan was to walk through the alley and visit as many stores as they could. Or that was at least what her parents had promised her before entering the place. To give them credit, they stuck to said plan right until they bumped into two of their friends from their time back at Hogwarts. Sabrina knew the couple, happily greeting them, letting the woman pinch her cheeks ("My oh my, you have grown so much") and the man ruffle her hair ("Hi there rascal, keeping your parents on their toes?").
At first, she enjoyed the pleasent encounter, even recieving a cone of roasted nuts from her parents friends, but after a while, she began to get bored. Unable to stay in one place for too long, she rocked back and forth on her feet, tugging at her mothers sleeve. Unfortunately, the other woman just told her parents that she was expecting, her husbands hand now setteling on her side as they shared a happy smile, her own hands cupping her belly. That seemed to really excite her parents, embracing the other couple, beaming at them, asking various questions regarding the news. Sabrina had no idea what the woman was expecting or why that was so important. She grew impatient, deciding to just explore the space herself.
She pushed through the crowd, tossing the nuts in her mouth, admiring the whimsical products in the shop windows. She was looking for one that would display cauldrons and potion glasses, but in her search she found something that caught her attention, leaving her mouth agap, the half-munched sweets almost falling from it before she closed it again, swallowing as she gazed at the huge orange cat that was lazily cleaning it's paw, ears flickering as it listened to some distant noise, sitting on a windowsill inside the Magical Menagerie shop.
Sabrina immidietly reached for the entrance door knob, pushing into said door with her shoulder to slip in. A bell rang, announcing her presence to the shopowner, a sound she almost missed, completaly focused on the cat that had jumped down from it's previous spot, meandering between the cupboards and cages. Sabrina didn't chase after it, too incaptured with the beauty od various different animals. She stopped next to a big cage with a small Tawny owl in it, curiously tilting its head to a side at her. She mimicked the motion, a smile appearing on her face as she adressed the bird.
"Hi! I am Brie, what's your name?," the owl blinked, straightening it's head, greeting her with a loud hoot. Sabrina chuckled, reaching her hand out to touch the cage, almost squeeling with excitement as the owl rubbed its beak along her pinkie, hooting again. "Your name is Hoots? That's really strange" she laughed, "or it would be for a human, but I guess owls have different taste."
By that point the lady, who appearently owned the shop with her husband, approached her, asking her name and the whereabouts of her parents with a kind smile. After a short discussion, the woman nodded, fetching her coat before taking Sabrina's hand, leading her out of the store, explaining that they'll go look for her parents. The seven-year-old waved the owl goodbye over her shoulder, happily following the kind elderly woman.
Her parents were already looking for her, profoundly thanking the shop owner when she reunited them with their daughter. Of course, Sabrina got a good scolding, her father crouching in front of her, grasping her shoulders as he explained how worried they were for her. She looked down on her shoes, nodding. She didn't mean for her parents to be afraid, she only wanted to explore. Now that the realisation of what she did sank in, she felt terrible, apologizing to her parents in between sniffs.
After tight hugs and more apologies, Sabrina told them about her adventures, and the new owl friend she had made. In the end, they went back to the shop, leaving it with the little owl, who after careful consideration, Sabrina took to calling Tevis.
