Sure, being on a team has its upsides, but Ira can't shake the feeling that the negatives far outweigh the perks. Her instincts alone won’t cut it here. Every procedure requires her and her partners to be in perfect agreement.

She knows her limits, and dealing with someone who isn’t as competent or aware as she is, in herbology? That’s not something she has the patience for.

When Professor Toussaint assigned teams, Ira had no choice but to keep quiet. It took all her willpower not to ask if she could handle the Mandrakes on her own, but she kept her lips sealed as she knew as has no say in this matter.

Ira’s lips curled down in frustration as she made her way toward her assigned teammate, a boy with chaotic black hair. Ira donned a stern look and carefully adjusted her tight bun, making sure it stayed in place, "I don't know about you, but I take this seriously. I’d appreciate it if you could do the same and not screw it up."

Ira observed his face intently, evaluating whether he was the type who takes Herbology lightly or handle it recklessly. If that’s the case, she might as well go solo.

"Here," Ira said, placing the earmuffs over his ears. But as soon as she did, she realized he wouldn’t be able to hear her. With a quick motion, she yanked them off. "We’ll keep this off for now. Let’s get everything else ready first," She placed the earmuffs in his hand instead.

Kadence wasn't.... as advanced in these type of things as Ira was. He mostly just tried to figure it out and made mistakes along the way since most times than not, he didn't know what to do..

As a Muggle-Born child, magic was not something he understood all that well. From first impressions, Ira seems firm and not one to take any foolishness where as Kadence can let things go lightly.

Honestly he thought it was better to have a partner to help him out, however Ira didn't seem like someone who'd be happy if he made even a minor inconvenience. Kade didn't always think before he acted so that might be a problem? He pushed all his thoughts away and kept his mind clear to understand what the tough looking girl was saying otherwise he'd forget.

As Ira spoke to him about not messing up, he got a bit nervous and intimidated. Kade always made some kind of mistake but he just took a deep breath and promised himself he'd try his best. "Got it" he mumbled back to her, with a nervous but slightly encouraging smile.

He didn't mind the way she quickly took off the earmuffs. He shrugged it off, nodding and gently set the earmuffs down next to him. He rolled up his sleeves a bit and waited for further instruction from Ira so he didn’t do anything stupid.

When the boy mumbled his response, Ira gave a curt nod, her eyes narrowing. She chose to believe him. Though, frankly, it wasn’t like she had any other option. Ira set her earmuffs beside his and murmured, "but let’s not forget these. We could end up with some severe ear damage if we don’t use them" reminding both herself and her teammate.

"Alright, let’s get started. So we'll need..." Ira stretched out the word as she mentally went over everything they’d need for planting the Mandrakes. "Now that we have the earmuffs, we’ll need a sapling, a shovel, proper soil, and a watering can," she said, ticking off each item on her fingers.

"I didn’t miss anything, did I?" she asked, narrowing her eyes as her gaze returned to the boy for confirmation. A beat later, she added, "I’ll grab the sapling. Would you mind fetching the shovel and the watering can?"

Not bothering to wait for his agreement, Ira turned and headed to the area where the saplings were kept. Ira brushed a stray strand of hair that had slipped free from her bun, off her face, she picked one of the saplings. Murmuring softly, "You’re safe with me," she carried it back to her spot.

Kade raised his eyebrow at most of the things she said, not really understanding the process of how to do this. He kept it in his mind that their ears could be damaged if they forgot to put the earmuffs on, surely that was something he wouldn't forget.

As Ira stated the equipment needed and looked over to him for confirmation, he shrugged with a confused face. "I don't know.." He managed to mumble out. He wasn't keeping up with the words she was saying because to him, it was all gibberish.

He was focused on his hands for a moment, fiddling and fidgeting with them for a little, while Ira was talking to him. His listened just barely before putting his actual attention on her as she said to get the materials needed.

The boy sighed to himself as he watched Ira go get the saplings while Kadence had to get the shovel and watering can. "This is ridiculous, I feel like any other class would be easier." He chatted to himself for a good while as he went tools he was sent to grab, mostly just saying how he didn't understand what to do and how he should calm down. Soft affirmations I suppose.

He quickly shuffled to get the watering can and the shovel, then moved back to where him and his partner were working.

Terror flashed across Ira’s face as she stared at him. "You don’t know? What do you mean you don’t know?" she snapped. Without giving him a chance to respond, she shook her head. "You know what? Forget it. I really don’t want to know," trying to save herself from further disappointment.

Ira let out a scoff as she headed for the sapling. So many Herbology enthusiasts in her class, and somehow she ended up with him as her partner. Brilliant! She couldn’t help but question her luck as she returned to her place. There he stood, watering can and shovel in hand. Well, at least he could follow simple instructions, thank Merlin for small mercies.

Without a word to him, Ira reached for a nearby pot. It was heavier than she expected, so she chose to kneel rather than try to lift it. Moreover, It was the way she was accustomed to, more natural and convenient.

Ira waved her hand at him, signaling for him to join her, "bring all that stuff over". Once he joined her, Ira began digging out the excess mud from the pot to make space for the sapling. "Do you at least have a clue about what I—what we’re about to do?"

He was confused and shocked by her sudden terror, his mouth opened to reply to her but got cut off by her saying nevermind, so instead he asked "Is that a big deal...?" Kadence asked with an unsure tone with his eyebrow raising. He thought it wasn't that important.

Of course he could follow simple instructions, it wasn't too hard unless it involved magic. Which then, he'd probably ask many questions and need things repeated to him.

He just watched her kneel down to get the pot, Kadence moved over to where she was gesturing him to come over, bringing the stuff along too. He simply stood beside her, still watching Ira's moves lightly. Once she spoke to him, he replied quickly "Not... really. I was hoping you'd help me out a bit"

Kadence didn't know how Ira would react to that answer but he said it anyway, maybe it's not as bad as he thinks it's going to be. All he had to do is listen, focus, and do as he's told. How hard could that be- surely it's not difficult, it's just common sense!

Something Kade was trying to figure out however... was if Ira is an acquaintance, a friend, or an enemy. He sensed that at the moment Ira wasn't fond of him at all, where was this going to lead.

Ira couldn't decide if she should laugh or cry at this point. She arched an eyebrow, folding her arms across her chest, "oh, I don’t know—" she said, her tone dripping with mock sweetness, "if this isn’t a big deal, enlighten me—what is? Because whatever-your-name-is, this is Herbology class, and your obliviousness is driving me up the wall."

"Thank you," Ira murmured, giving him a brief glance as he placed the items down. Ira nodded with her gaze fixed on her pot as she listened, suppressing her irritation. Helping was one thing, but dealing with someone who hadn’t even bothered to try? That was another. "If you were really interested, you could’ve thought to glance at the book or, you know, actually pay attention in class."

"And just so you know, you might understand it better if you got involved instead of standing there," Ira said, shifting slightly to make room and patted the space beside her, gesturing for him to sit. She placed her earmuffs over her ears and turned to him, giving a silent prompt for him to put his on as well. Ira reached out to slightly shift his earmuffs so he could hear her clearly say, "We need to pull the Mandrake out and transfer it to this pot. Do you want to try doing that?" Then quickly fixed them once again to a proper fit.
