A Sneak Peek PV Boniface Murtagh MacTavish

July 9th, 10:45PM.

Falentra attempts to venture through the greenhouse,
only to come into contact with a Fanged Geranium. Luckily,
Boniface is nearby and is hopefully able to help in time.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The sky had drew dark on this warm summer evening. Fireflies flew effortlessly through the air and faintly lit the surroundings of the large greenhouse before the student. It wasn't completely old looking, but it was noticeably starting to show its wears and tears on certain areas of the wood and metal that combined together. The emerald green paint that could now be seen slowly turning into a mixture of a darkened, sickly yellow mustard intertwined between the window frames and cracked door showed its vulnerability and age, yet managing to still stand tall and mighty.
The windows, although seemingly in tacked, were either covered in vines which overlapped each other— some so much that they covered the windows completely, whereas others had the odd cracks and handprint smudged against it, just to add to the messy vibe it was starting to give off. Although, if you were to look inside, tables were neatly in sync, and pots were stored away perfectly ready for their next use. Of course, there were plenty of plants to be seen from afar on various tables towards the back, but none that stood out and made you want to venture into the miniature-like forest. But that certainly wasn't the case for Falentra.

The third-year student had absolutely no interest in the subject. To her, plants were meant to 'look pretty' and have no danger to them whatsoever, despite knowing bits and bats on some of the plants out there that could harm someone who were to dare go near. Falentra just couldn't accept the fact that that was to actually be true and instead, let the curiosity get the better of her. She was just a child after all. Were there really going to be any plants in here that would be classed as dangerous?

The fearless attitude that this kid showed was reckless and stupid, but it was a risk she was willing to take to find out. It wasn't too hard for her to manage to sneak her way in. Right towards the very back was a half-broken window with a small gap right in the very bottom corner wide enough for a child to squeeze through. It was covered with a few large bags of soil to try and cover-up, but it was something Falentra didn't have trouble moving. Her feet pushed up against the bags of soil, and with a small grunt and a forceful push, she knocked over the soil, letting it pour out onto the floor and allow her entry, finally.

It was dark and foggy looking. The air was thick and humid, something Falentra wasn't too keen on. The heavy smells and blurred vision caused her expression to show a constant look of disgust and made her concentration levels drop. ''U..Ugh...'' She covered her mouth and let out a small muffled sign of annoyance whilst pulling herself up off the ground with her free hand. With a quick scan around the area, she slowly and quietly made her way through the aisles of plants. Unbeknown to her, some overgrown leaves that stood in her pathway brushed her across her clothes and face gently, which was somewhat ticklish, and others, specifically the heavier ones that had thrones on the stems ripped part of her clothing and scratched against her neck and cheek.
It stung, and her eyes squinted for a split second from the sharp pain but were soon distracted by what stood before her. It looked like some sort of rose, but with petals far bigger and a stem much longer. It was a Fanged Geranium. It was pretty. Prettier than the ones she saw before. Without really taking any notice of what it actually was, she took a step closer, and another before she wasn't even able to respond quick enough, she fell back against the table nearest to her and knocked over a pot, causing it to smash onto the cobbled ground. She didn't have time to react to the noise she created. She was too startled on what she thought was strangely beautiful in front of her had now become somewhat of an ugly thing with a mouth that held razor-sharp teeth, teeth of which were snapping aggressively at her. ''Crap'' She cursed under her breath, gripping a tight hold of the edge of the table behind her to keep her balance steady. How was she to escape right now? Was she to run, or would that startle the plant even more, or set other ones off? There was no way she was shouting for help. How cowardly would that make her look?

Boniface wasn't the type of man to rush his line of work. He took things smooth and slow, letting things happen as they did. To him, all of this, his situation, was just a sheer coincidence. Day in and day out, he tended to the plants. He made no sudden moves. Still. Like a lion in the weeds. That is what he was, after all. With the Gryffindor man finally back at home, he was eased into the professor life. New faces greeted him every day, and the constant ones became familiar to him. Though, still, quite sadly, he hadn't met everyone.

He knew of his issue with the window. Lord did he know. It had been a nuisance for rodents to sneak their way into. It often upset some of the more sensitive plants; the ones that got scared if one dared to breathe too hard in their general direction. Easy enough to take care of- once he saw them. The problem was that there were seven greenhouses. Seven to check. Seven to lock up. Seven to teach in. Seven different batches of plants to look after. The lucky number seven was not his lucky number after all. Boniface couldn't even keep up with seven students, let alone seven greenhouses filled with life.

Plants had their own personalities. Even ones in the muggle world. They could be stubborn, or they could be easy. Plants that were more human than they were plants... Well, they were stubborn. And it really wasn't their fault. Why on earth nature would make a plant with razor-sharp teeth was a mystery to any man or woman with a decent head on them. You had to be insane to want to deal with that sort of trouble.

So, you could say that Boniface was a tad bit insane.

A madman he may be, perhaps those mad instincts were what let him to the particular greenhouse with a faulty window. But something was amiss. He couldn't shake the feeling as he was walking the grounds, enjoying the fine evening. It was growing darker and darker by the minute, and Boniface longed to be in the beautiful plains of his beloved Scotland. However, Hogwarts offered for a different take on the country. For the security of his community, of course.

A crash. No, no. A smash. One of his beloved plants was lying on the ground somewhere within this greenhouse. He hoped that it wasn't anything dangerous. Well, it wouldn't have been a mandrake. He would have heard that and then promptly died. He also had those stored away quite carefully in the event that something like this happened. Boniface didn't need any fatalities on his hand just because someone couldn't follow rules.

By now, he had thought that he had dealt with it all. Over-curious 1st years. Far too ambitious Slytherins. Overachieving Ravenclaws. Daring Gryffindors. He really had thought that he had seen it all. Sometimes it was over a potion ingredient. One might wish to make a polyjuice potion perhaps. Or a poor attempt at an experiment. Kids were weird. That was the only conclusion he had. Or maybe he just stopped being cool enough to understand their behaviors.

In this instance... He didn't know what to make of it. What was she? The girl on the floor. Luckily to her, the plant that she had let shatter was merely Knotgrass, so he wasn't too worried about that. However, the Fanged Geranium going after her was a concern.

Perhaps she had a desire in the plant for potion purposes. Maybe she was a Quidditch player in search of a hardy Strength Potion. Maybe she liked to cook and was going to use the fangs of the plant in her next meal. Whatever the case was, she had certainly startled the poor thing.

"Ye do know I'll teach ye all about that one in your fifth year, aye? There's no need to steal it if that's what yer planning." Boniface looked over at the plant, who was snapping aggressively at the girl. He rolled his eyes, drawing his wand and waving it at it. "Immobulus!" The plant stopped, freezing.

Looking down at the girl, he raised his brows at her. "So, what brings ye to the greenhouses? Other than shattering the confines of my Knotgrass and startling plants with fangs."

She had been caught? How? There was no way she thought anyone would be out here at this time, even for a professor. It didn’t bother her that he had found her, but the fact that he caught her with her guard down and with a face of worry was what triggered her.
Her brows furrowed and she promoted herself right back up straight off the table and adjusted her ripped robes, revealing that she was a Slytherin. ‘‘Aye...aye..’’ She mocked his accent under her breath, repeating his own uses of words. As much as she was intentionally trying to come across rude, purely with her being annoyed at him, she was also secretly annoyed with herself. The way he had just frozen that..beast made her somewhat jealous. She was over-ambitious and wanted to learn every spell possible all at once, no matter how hard, or dangerous.
Teach me that...’ She asked. No please, no nothing. Her upbringing wasn’t that of a bad one, but her parents were too busy to teach her what was right from wrong, and picking up bad habits from wandering the streets clearly did her no good. ‘‘I just wanted to ‘ave a look inside. I didn’t mean to break anythin’... was just ‘avin a nosey really to see if there were actually any plants that were dangerous enough to see up close..’’ Her voice had a glimpse of excitement, but also had that bit of moodiness to it, due to her still getting over the fact that she had been caught.

Her fingers brushed against her skin, wiping away the blood that had started to trickle down her cheek. Since there wasn’t really a good enough reason to get her out of this, she decided to just be honest and face the consequences that were to come.
I’m...” Her gaze wandered off to the side, somewhat nervous about letting her guard down again. “I’m just no good at it. Your class... I don’t get it and it’s..borin’. ” She was straight to the point, whether or not she offended him. He asked and she answers truthfully.

Falentra moved forward now that the plant had been frozen. She didn’t move closer to it, but rather examining it up and down as she walked back and forth. “I thought the plant looked pretty, yet ugly once it showed it’s flippin’ teeth. Don’t know what drew me to it, but it stood out more than any others.” There wasn’t a time that the third-year student looked back or made any sort of eye contact with Boniface. The amount of talking she had just done almost drained her. Talking wasn’t her forte and it made her uncomfortable. All she wanted was to be left alone to do her own thing and explore the ground.. even if it was against the rules after hours, it clearly wasn’t an issue for her. Learning to her meant sometimes bending the rules and learning it from your own point of view, rather than being treated like an idiot that doesn't know how to look after themselves and needed to be monitored twenty-four seven.
''Will ya show us some more plants that are like these?'' Her dark brown hues finally made there way up to the man. She wasn't pulling one of those puppy-dog kinds of faces, but a serious one, because she was truly starting to become intrigued with this class now that she knew there were such things as these.
