26th November, 20.57 free time before curfew
The first note appeared within the book about two weeks after her encounter with the girl with blue streaks in her hair - the object on it's own was quiete hard to find, and even harder to digest, which was a bit of a relief, honestly. Sabrina had to suffer through ten pages of utter nonesense, only half paying attention to the content, on a verge of giving up, assuming that the girl just played a cheap prank on her, when her eyes registered the word November. She absentmindedly straightened, resisting the urge to look around as she reread the note.

The book was long slid back in it's spot as the young ravenclaw climbed the stairs up to the Owelry, her smile widening and steps getting quicker the higher she got. It was well before their established meeting time, around 20.03, but that was just according to the girl's own plan. Leaving the Common room just before the curfew was suspicious, and she refused to get caught on the way to their meeting point, not that she was planning on getting caught at all, of course. There weren't many hiding spots around, so the safest bet was to wait in the place itself, then get down as the time neared. Lost in her thoughts, Sabrina reached the top platform, her hands automatically wrapping around herself as a first whiff of the cold air hit her. She was really glad she had put on the jumper under her robes now.

She pushed herself up backwards on the windowsill nearest to the right, sliding back as far as she dared to the edge, bringing her knees up to comforly lean her back against the wall. From this position, she could see the whole space, excluding the entrance, which meant that whoever entered the room would have to take a few steps into the room and look around before even spotting her. That would give her enough time to slip past them and quietly run down the stairs, giving her a pretty safe and quick escape route, if needed.

All settled in, she let her shoulders slump, lazily tilting her her head to a side to look at the scenary before her, trying not to look down for too long. If not for her excitement, she might've fallen asleep in that position, actually cozy in her spot. When the time came, she jumped down from the windowsill, stretching with a soft groan, descending down the stairs as quietly as she could, sneaking back to the entrance of their common room, not going in.

Avis was stoked. She had slipped a small piece of paper into the book, and upon earlier checking that day, it was gone, which meant that either Sabrina had seen her note, or she was about to get in serious trouble. She was very hopeful that it would be the first... She wasn't completely trusting either, she was perfectly aware that Sabrina could have run to a prefect or professor as soon as she had read the note. There was a reason Avis hadn't told her her name. She slipped on a pair of black leggings with a somewhat crudely sewn pocket for her wand and a navy blue tunic. She pulled her hair black with a black bandana, hoping to hide the streaks, and she didn't plan on actually talking to Sabrina, at least until she could confirm that Sabrina was alone on the grounds.

Right before curfew, Avis slipped into the common room and out the common room door. She startled a bit at the sight of Sabrina standing right in front of it. Frowning, she started down the hall without looking at or speaking to Sabrina. As the girl walked alongside her, Avis waiting until they were down the hall before hissing. "Instructions are there for a reason. If we get caught because you didn't follow the instructions, don't blame me." It was frustrating. Avis had told her to meet at the grounds, not the common room.

Avis sighed, hopefully Sabrina would listen better next time, no need to dwell on it now. She kept her voice low and stern as they walked through the castle. "Our goal is to make it up to the Owlery, starting at the grounds." But naturally, they would have to get to the grounds first.

Sabrina waited next to the entrance, back pressed against the wall as she stared up at the ceiling. She should've come down sooner, really. The no-name girl - who she's taken to refering to as Blue - might've already gone down to the grounds. In the end, her waiting wasn't in vain as said girl walked out of the door, obviously startled at seeing Sabrina here. The shocked look on her face made the cornors of Brie's mouth tug up as she fell into stride beside her, having to jog a bit to catch up.

Blue was obviously annoyed with her, a matter that Brie didn't regard herself with, at least until the other girl hissed at her, her voice stern. Authoritative. The small smile got wiped right clean off her face, a pout replacing it. Right, she understood the instructions, thank you very much. And if she had any say in creating them, she'd tell the girl exactly what was wrong with them beforehand, as she was about to do now.

"You could've just diched me," she hisses back, because two can play this game, sensible enough to keep her voice down. They were just descending down the stairs, which Sabrina made a use of, abruptly coming to a halt, watching as the other girl stopped just a few steps under her, giving Brie the height advantage now.

"I don't know if you noticed, but the grounds are quiete the walk from our Common room and you set the meeting time exactly on the curfew," she bit back, arms folding over her chest, "How could I had known you'd show? Plus, I don't see how us meeting here can get us caught. If anything, it's your instructions that might do just that," she scoffed, looking to aside, brows knotted together, "the rule is to not be out past curfew. You are the one to make it more complicated than it has to be."

She stated meeting the other girls eyes again, as if daring her to argue back. Blue doesn't trust her, that much is clear, so Sabrina returns the sweet gesture tenfold. The other ravenclaw didn't even have the decency of sharing her name. Sabrina knows that it isn't good, that them not trusting eachother hightenes the odds of them getting in trouble, she isn't stupid. But she is stubborn as well, and in no mood to be talked to in that manner.

"You could've just ditched me," That was true, Avis could have. She hadn't really thought of that, to be honest, but she wouldn't have done it even if she had. They were both going to the grounds now anyway, so there wasn't much point. She cast a wry smile towards the girl. "That's true, I could have. Why do you think I didn't?" There wasn't an actual reason, but she was curious what Sabrina would say.

"I don't know if you noticed, but the grounds are quite the walk from our Common room and you set the meeting time exactly on the curfew, how could I have known you'd show?" Sabrina had stopped on the stairs, and Avis turned around and looked up at her. She didn't trust Avis. That was a good thing. Not that Avis was untrustworthy, but a fair bit of suspicion was, in Avis' opinion, always a good thing. She gave Sabrina a small nod of approval before turning back around and continuing down the stairs.

As the stairs flattened out, she looked over her shoulder back at Sabrina, locking eyes with the Ravenclaw. "Well sure, we could have waited outside the door until a minute after curfew, but where would be the fun in that? Getting from the grounds to the Owlery put some actually danger in in, which was really what Avis was looking for. If Sabrina thought it was just to not get caught, then she had picked the wrong person to do this with.

The point of breaking rules was to walk on the line of defiance. Fear of getting caught was not part of the art.

Sabrina stared after her, absolutetly incredulous as Blue gave her a nod of approval. Approval. She opened her mouth again, as if to shoot back a snarky retort, definitely about not needing her approval as she wasn't her bloody dog, but alas, the girl spoke again, postponing Sabrina's fiery response. Blue was right about it being more fun that way, and even tho she didn't want to admit it, Sabrina actually agreed with that sentiment. It made it much more exciting and actually worth while. After all, if they were to break the rules, they could do so boldly, not like some scared wet chickens.

She let her mouth snap shut again, her brows still furrowed, tempted to continue the argument on the stairs, even if just to somehow show defiance to the other girl, but she ultimately decided against it, settling on an annoyed scoff as she caught up with the girl.

During the small walk down, she decided that she's not doing this. At least not like this. If she were to break the rules with Blue then - well, she couldn't be Blue anymore. She needed to be her partner, an eaqul. And maybe, preferably, but at the moment quite absurd seeming - a friend.

So once she stood close to the girl, she reached out her hand, placing its back against the girls forearm, circling her to stand before her, forcing her to stop and pay attention to her.
"What's your name?" she whispered, brows raised up, no traces of the previous frown visible on her features, which were now showing.. anticipation. As if she was quizzing Blue, waiting for the right answer.

Avis strode through the hall without looking back at Sabrina, knowing, well, hoping she knew, that the girl was following her. Sabrina didn't seem to have a snappy comeback for Avis, and Avis hoped that it was because Sabrina agreed with her point about the rules. The only other possibility would be that Sabrina had left. Avis couldn't hear footsteps either way, so she just kept walking, until Sabrina stepped in front of her, blocking her path. It reminded her of her conversation with Oliver the other day, though she wasn't planning on flinging a spell at Sabrina.

She raised one eyebrow questioningly--a trick she had spent hours practicing in front of the mirror at home, as she held the rest of her face in a stoic position, unwavering. Sabrina asked her name and Avis bit her lip, a slight movement, but it stood out from the rest of her cold expression. She didn't want to give this girl her name, she really didn't. That meant that all they had to do to get you in trouble was say your name, and if you were stupid enough to try and protect them and say it was you and then...no, she wasn't going to dwell on that. She just really didn't want to give Sabrina her name.

But somewhere in Sabrina's anticipating eyes, Avis thought she saw that the girl needed this. She needed Avis to give her even just a little bit, to make this all real, to make it possible. So she nodded curtly, locking eyes with Sabrina. "Avis", then she pulled Sabrina's hand off her arm and continued walking, as the grounds loomed closer. They were almost there. "Did you like my book?"

Sabrina snickeres, rolling her eyes. This time, there was no bite behind the action, instead replaced by slight amusement.

"Was downright enamored by it," she replies sarcastically, falling back in step with Avis, who she now knows the name of. Just the knowladge alone gives her a sense of stability, a steady surface on which trust might be built over time. But definitely not yet. Still, the atmosphere seemed to ease between the girls, even as Avis' face seemed to stay rather stoic the whole time. In Sabrina's opinion, it was almost comical.

"The history of tissues" she breaths, shaking her head as if still in disbelieve over its mere existence. A small quiet chuckle escapes her lips, which's corners had already curled up into a smile, as she looks up at her companion, "mate, I don't know where you dug up the book, but it's just briliant. Never heared of anything so boring before."

They were getting closer to the ground level of the castle, descending down flights of stairs which Sabrina was uncomfortably aware of they'll have to climb up soon too. She wasn't really sure where on the grounds Avis wanted to start, which was one of the reasons why she didn't wait for her there, beside the obvious betrayal scenario. So she just kept in tow, focusing on staying quiet and alert, ears strained as to register any possible threats that might come their way.

The offer of information, combined with the subtly and shallow subject change, seemed to have lost Sabrina some of her skepticism, a fact which had Avis very happy. She was always one to hold skepticism, but she didn't want to base her interactions around it.

She let out a laugh at Sabrina's sarcastic enjoyment. The laugh was, well, sort of a screaming hyena mixed with a pig, but slightly less revolting, more funny sounding. It was clearly a laugh, but not a great one. Maria and Alaina made fun of it, and for good reason. It was entertaining in its own right. She tried not to laugh much in public, it drew too much attention. She wasn't really sure why she allowed herself to laugh now, but she was paying close attention to Sabrina's reaction.

She agreed with Sabrina's opinion of the book. It was quite something, a terribly boring book. It was a masterpiece, a work of pure art, and Avis was its creator. She adored her book, and was excited her could finally share it with someone else.

As they entered the grounds, Avis stopped just outside the door, casting a quick look at the stars and murmuring under her breath, before turning to Sabrina, a sly glint in her eye and a smirk on her face. "Do you want to race?" She bolted back through the door without waiting for an answer. She wasn't the fastest runner, but she had good practice taking stairs two at a time. They had seven floors to ascend, after all.

Hearing Avis' laugh just makes Sabrina's smile wider. She laughts right along with her, her eyes glinting with pure joy. There is just something so incredibly rewarding about making other people express their joy in such pure manner. The honest, unapologetic full-belly laugh complete with wheezes and snorts, that makes your cheeks red and belly cramp. Avis' laugh is like this, warm and true. It is beautiful. It instantly makes Sabrina feel closer to her, all remaining tention leaving her body for the moment.

Still, her own laughter turns into shaky shushing as she tries to calm them both dowm. She smolders her snorts with her hand, the other reaching up to softly swat its back at the other girls arm in a reminder to stay quiet. She looks around, making sure they didn't provoke any unwanted attention.

Her eyes flick back to Avis at an instance as she registers the word 'race' leaving her mouth. She's all for it, of course, but doesn't get the chance to say so as the other girl takes off. Gasping, Sabrina swivels on her heel.

"Hey!" she calls out, imidietly clasping a hand over her mouth. "Dirty cheater," she mumbles into it, her smile not faltering as she reaches for the railing, yanking herself up, giving her a good momentum and thus fast start.

Back at home, she used to swim almost everyday, and even if she is a bit out of practice, she has a great control over her breathing and trained legs. That, combined with her competitiveness, excitement and seemingly endless source of energy that most children posses, all contribut to the fact that she carches up with Avis fairly quickly, managing to stick her tongue out at her as she passes her, running down the hall to another set of stairs, trying to stay as quiet as possible throughout the whole thing.

Avis hadn't been listening for Sabrina answer, but she heard it anyway. That wasn't good. It meant she was too loud. She turned back to Sabrina with a finger over her lips, a smile on her face but seriousness radiating in her eyes. She wouldn't be upset if they got detention, necessarily, but she would be annoyed if they got detention when they shouldn't have.

Her pause to turn was evidently not a great idea as Sabrina dashed past her, sticking out her tongue along the way. Avis cocked her head at the gesture, and continued at her same pace, hoping that Sabrina would eventually tire and Avis could pass her. It was all about pacing.

Except evidently, it was not, as Avis reached the Owlery a full staircase behind Sabrina. Whether Sabrina had slowed or not, it hadn't made a difference. She shrugged good-naturedly and winked at Sabrina. "I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, we can call it a tie."

The purpose of the race hadn't been the race though. Well, part of it had, obviously, for the fun, but most of it had also been to prove a point. "Do you know the saying: To escape a bear, you don't have to be faster than the bear, only faster than the other person?" She chuckled a bit. "I have to say you'd probably be the one to escape."
