General The Hufflepuff Table 2019-2020

Cosmo stared at the spinner, balancing it on his finger. He nodded. "Yes." to @Logan Baird fidget spinner question. He had one arm rested on the table and the other occupied with the spinner. His hood was still over his head. He wondered why this person was talking to him. He never liked being social, only to people he was really close to. He never trusted people that much either. One kid in New York had pretended to be his friend until he made fun of Cosmo's way that he spoke with the mixed accent and his constantly changing tone. The kid made fun of his autism. Cosmo couldn't tell peoples emotions very well, he wasn't social, and his learning abilities are delayed. He didn't care though. He was more of the strong and silent type, but very self-conscious. He exhaled sharply, still watching the spinner. He still hadn't gotten a good look at the girl, but what did he need to for? It's not like they were gonna always be in the same room and have every project together. He then thought about how much he wanted to go home again. With his real friends. He couldn't do anything about it. He was here now.

Logan, not wanting to be too pushy, started to want to ask simple questions to get to know @Cosmo Taylor . She sat for a few second thinking about a question to ask before finally finding one she wanted to ask. "Is Hufflepuff the house you wanted to get into from the beginning?" she questioned, wanting to know if he was just grumpy he hadn't made it into the house he had originally wanted to get into. Logan honestly didn't care what house she got into, as long as she made friends while in that house. Her father didn't care about the house and neither did her aunt, although her brothers may have something to say about her being soft. She smiled softly at the thought of her family, excited to send them a letter about what all was going on. Turning her mind back to Cosmo, she thought about whether or not he actually wanted to be her friend or if he was just responding to her questioned to make her happy. She honestly couldn't tell, but hoped that he actually wanted to be her friend through their years at Hogwarts. Logan smiled at the thought of making more friends in her own house.

Cosmo, still staring at the spinner on his finger, his face covered by his hood, shrugged. He spoke to @Logan Baird. "I don't care." Then put his fidget spinner away and turned his focus to the floor. He liked looking at the little details of every single place he went to. He didn't exactly know why, it was most likely just a habit he had gained over the years. As well as wearing hoodies, counting his steps, having something to do with his hands, and getting Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream at Ben and Jerry's, every time. He didn't like change. He, in fact, hated change. If things aren't broken, why fix it? His ocean blue eyes scanned across the floor as he memorized every detail. The wooden planks of different tones, with scratched and dents, some dirt tracked in from the students boots. He took a look around the room. It looked very regal, like nothing he had ever seen before, growing up in New York. Graffiti and cigarettes were everywhere. This was orderly. He liked orderly, but didn't like the place itself. Why did he have to be a wizard. And even if he had to, why couldn't his mother home-school him?

Logan looked at @Cosmo Taylor as her smile slightly dropped, "You aren't much of a talker, are you?" she questioned quietly after realizing he wasn't really answering her questions like she thought. The students that came to the parties her father held normally started rambling on about how they should have been in a different house and that it wasn't fair at all. Logan wasn't used to people answering her back with one word answers or a little longer. Releasing a sigh, Logan dropped her head down, allowing her braid to drop over her shoulder, "I am sorry if I am annoying you, I am just nervous about meeting new people," she muttered softly with a slight frown on her face. She really hoped she wasn't annoying him because then she would feel bad and not know how to make it up to him. Logan thought about what her mother would have done in this situation, but all Logan could think of was that her mother had always been good at making friends right off the bat and not having issues with figuring out if the person actually liked her or not. Logan deflated slightly at the thought of her mother.

Rosa ran into the Great Hall scouting the area looking for her friends she has recently made. All of them being willing to put up with her antics other people found too out there for their taste. Rosa didn't mind though, she respected boundaries.

As Rosa ran a book slipped out her arm, but her feet kept going, it took a little extra time for her to realize what happened before she turned around and went back for it. Dusting off the book she continued her run down the tables to where her friends sat.

"Good news!" She stood there holding up the book that was previously dropped before,"I found it!" She sang happily, waving the book a bit before sitting down.

One of her friends made a comment about how easily she loses things to which in response Rosa said, "My mind is just messy, thats how you know I'm productive." Rosa gave a big grin and picked up a piece of bread from the basket in front. Opening the book she flipped through it carelessly before shutting it again.

"You know, the potions class is kinda the one at fault for giving us a heavy work load. If I was the professor I'd say: You're such great students, no homework!" Rosa's face scowled up a bit.

Rosa heard a friend say something along the lines of her not being a great student. To that, Rosa gasped and pulled off a piece of bread to throw at them. Looking up, she saw another Hufflepuff staring at her in not happiness or anger, but more of curiosity. Rosa hated curious starers, she hated trying to be figured out.

She quickly looked away and jumped up. "Well, I'm going to go guys found my book so I guess I should study." Her friends gave groans, knowing she most likely wont study as she turned and quickly left the hall just as quickly as she came in.

Cosmo just shrugged, tugging his black hood down a tiny bit more in front of his face. He didn't know what to say to @Logan Baird at this point, so he just kept quiet as the rest of the first year students were being called up, one by one to be sorted. Why do people here think a simple rugged hat is a good judge of character, enough so to be sorted into a box. It's kind of ridiculous. Sure, it's a supposed 'magical' hat, but even so. It's still just a hat. Why can't the students just choose their own house? That way everyone will be happy. Well then I suppose some houses would be outnumbered. Oh well. Not really my place to judge the school here anyways. He wondered what the year would be like. Were all the kids as talkative as the girl next to him? He wondered what she even looked like, he hadn't seen her. He imagined a ginger haired girl with bright eyes, freckles and a permanent smile on her face with a happy-go-lucky attitude. He could be wrong, though. He's usually always wrong when it comes to people, socialization, and emotions. Not like he really needed that skill to succeed.

Logan let out a sigh when she realized that @Cosmo Taylor beside her wasn't going to answer any more of her questions. She hoped he hadn't thought she was rude when asking the questions. Turning her head to watch some of the other first years get sorted she thought of one last question to ask the young male. "Okay, one last question and I will let you alone. I promise." she said quickly as she turned her head slightly to look at the boy again. "Why are we using an old creepy hat to sort us into houses? It makes no sense at all, not everyone is going to match up perfectly with any of the houses or even come close to having most of the traits for one of the houses. Even if it is tradition, it makes no sense," she spoke quickly so that Cosmo wouldn't have to listen to her for that long. She pulled at her sleeves the whole time. Logan just want to ask the question to someone in her year so that the older students wouldn't make fun of her questions. Logan was a curious person, even though most of the time she was quieter than a little mouse.

Cosmo almost turned to @Logan Baird but stopped himself. He must not have been the only one questioning the mysterious hat. Hood still over his head, he spoke up. "Yeah, it's kind of funny." Why would people put their faith in that hat? Oh well, he guessed it was just one of the school's magical traditions. He took a glance around the room. Then he realized just how massive it was. The ceiling never seemed to end. It had a sort of medieval feel to it. Well, it is a castle anyways. Of course it had an aura to it that was like knights and horses, candlelit hallways and big feasts, wizards, too. He took a glance at each table. The Griffyndors were just having a good time, eating and laughing. The Ravenclaw table was discussing study techniques. The Slytherin table was just pointing and snickering. All the tables represented a different type of clique, it seemed like. One group represented a type of people. Popular and fun, honor roll, and the general mean kids. He wondered what Hufflepuff stood for. The shy, barely in the background kids? Most likely. He turned his attention to candle in front of him. He was quiet as he watched the flame dance.

Logan glanced to @Cosmo Taylor before quickly turning her head away again. She had promised that she wouldn't ask any more questions, and she planned on keeping that promise. Growing more nervous by the second, Logan bounced her leg under the table, along with pulling at the sleeves of her robe again. She was excited and scared to meet the others in her dorm because she had no idea how they were going to react to her. She was normally pretty good at making acquaintances. Her eyes moved around the room, trying to decided whether or not she would find people in other houses to make friends with. Her search so far was not going so well, for most people seemed to have found a specific group of people to sit with. Logan grew more nervous by the second, wondering if she was going to actually make any friends this year or if she was going to have to go home and inform her brothers that she had made no friends while away at school. Just the thought of the teasing made her shudder a little bit. Their teasing was nothing to take lightly, especially when they were together. Trying her best, Logan kept her mouth shut as she started to pay attention to more of the sorting and not the kid beside her.

Cosmo just sat in silence. He watched the candle flame in front of him. It was very pretty, but dangerous. Isn't everything? He reached out a finger to touch it. It burned the tip of his finger and seared his senses. He pulled back, after about 3 seconds. He then leaned over the table and blew the candle out. He looked at his finger, it was almost a blood red color, and his skin was to delicate to touch, otherwise t would hurt too badly. He sighed. He brought his finger to his mouth and blew softly, hoped that would help it. It didn't. Whatever. He was fine. He took a small glance at the @Logan Baird beside him, she was fidgeting. He wondered why. Not like he would ever know. Understanding people was too hard. Everyone was too loud. Much too noisy here. He couldn't take it. Too much. Too much confusion. He wanted to leave. The sounds of kid's voices echoed through the halls it terrified him. He hated not understanding. Oh no. He was silently freaking out. Why couldn't his brain comprehend anything but panic. Too crowded, too big, too noisy, too confusing. Cosmo couldn't take it. He ran out of the room as fast as he could, holding onto his hood. He headed to the corridors. A lump formed in his throat. He ran fast enough he could hear wind in his ears. He ran until he was outside, in the middle of the quidditch grounds. He sat down, breathing heavily.

Sincerely, Me
