Avis sat in her chair in the Study Room, her head resting on her hand as she daydreamed the past hour away. She'd been quite productive for the first half but after finishing some notes on Transfiguration, she finally had nothing else to do but Herbology and unfortunately, plant homework was last thing she wanted to complete. So there she sat, twirling her quill absentmindedly between two fingers and chewing on the inside of her cheek, promising herself she would finish the homework later that evening.

After what seemed like years, Avis finally took the initiative to glance up at the eerily silent clock on the wall and proceeded to do a panicked double take. Bollocks, was that really the time? Charms was in 5 minutes and she had entire floor to go up!

Scrambling to pack her things, she stuffed her notes and quill into her leather satchel and flew out of the room, hoping no one would noticed a stray Ravenclaw sneaking into class a minute late.

Unfortunately for Avis, she herself hadn't taken care to notice that she'd left a whole textbook lying on the desk in the Study Room. Her Transfiguration textbook lay open on the wooden surface with the initials "A.G." scrawled into the top corner of the inside cover.

Avery was heading towards the library when a Hufflepuff carrying a book ran up to her. She handed Avery the book before running off toward somewhere. Avery looked down at the book and realized it was a Transfiguration book with the initials A.G. scrawled on the top cover. Avery was confused. She didn't recognize the handwriting on the book, and realized it wasn't hers.

Avery glanced around quickly, and hoped to find the person searching for a lost book. Unfortunately, no one came to collect it. Avery gently placed the book into her bag before continuing her way to the library, so she could work on homework until it was time to go to Herbology.

When she got into the library, she was surprised to find it empty. She was expecting it to be full of students trying to scramble and finish their homework before their classes started. Instead she found a group of three Slytherins bent over a book. Giving her glances as she walked by.

She finally settled down and pulled out the mysterious book instead of her own book. She sighed and laid it on the table. Hoping she would be able to find the owner before it was too late. She didn't like the idea of another student getting in trouble because they had lost their book. That thought gave her the motivation to find this person fast. Especially since Transfiguration is important to her.

Avis groaned, digging through her satchel. She'd sat through Charms for the first half hour doodling on a piece of parchment and then the class had been instructed to take out their textbooks for a bit of group reading. That's where her problems began.

She'd pulled out her Charms textbook, only to find that a massive ink splotch had bled through the first few pages. In her attempt to find a handkerchief, or at least something similar, to wipe up part of the mess, she'd discovered her satchel was a bit roomier than usual which led to her now desperate search through the bag. Her Transfiguration textbook had vanished, which she supposed was rather ironic seeing as they'd just learned about the Vanishment branch in that very class the other day.

As the professor continued the lecture, Avis checked her bag for a third time and finally gave up the search, sighing a bit louder than she'd intended. A Hufflepuff student next to her leaned over.

"What's wrong?" she asked. Nosy much? Avis shook her head.

"I can't find my Transfiguration book," she whispered back, trying to look focused on the lesson. Strangely enough, the student gave her a double take.

"What's your name?" she continued. Avis furrowed her brows in confusion. Sure she always appreciated new friends, but the timing was a bit ridiculous.

"Avis. Avis Greymond," she whispered back, "Look, we should probably-" she began in an attempt to bring the other student's attention to the lesson, but the girl interrupted her.

"Oi, I may have given your textbook to someone else. An Avery Gray," the girl said in an apologetic tone. Avis whipped her head around to face the Hufflepuff who was looking rather sheepish.

"You what?!" she said out loud. A few disgruntled complaints echoed through the room around her and Avis forced a smile. "Sorry. Sorry," she said hastily and turned back to the girl. "You what?" she whispered loudly.

"I found it in the study room and gave it to Avery. You have the same initials. I thought the book was hers," the girl said and turned back in her seat to focus on the reading. Oh now you want to focus. Avis huffed in annoyance.

Whoever this Avery was had better be easy to find. Avis needed that book and fast.

Avery quickly finished her homework. Finding the owner of the book was fresh on her mind, so she couldn't focus fully on the homework. She didn't know when to start looking, but she knew that she had Transfiguration after Herbology, so she hoped the owner would be in that class. Otherwise Avery didn't know what she was going to do.

Avery quickly headed towards Herbology in order to not be late. She was excited to work with Joseph again on their project the teacher assigned them. When she walked into Greenhouse 1, she didn't see anyone in there that had the initials A.G. She only knew this because the professor made them introduce themselves to the entire class. Avery sighed and went over to her spot next to Joseph so she could work on their project.

After Herbology ended, Avery was getting nervous. She still hadn't found the person missing the book. She began to walk toward the Transfiguration classroom. She hoped that she would be able to find the person missing the book.

When Avery walked into the Transfiguration classroom, she found an empty desk towards the back of the class. As the class began filing in, she noticed a Ravenclaw that seemed nervous. Avery waved her over and asked, "Are you missing a book? Some girl gave it to me this morning, and I can't seem to find the owner. It has the initials 'A.G.' in it."

Avis took a large bite of her sandwich. She figured she had a few more places to look for her book before Transfiguration tomorrow. If anything, perhaps the person who currently had her book had thought to return it to the Transfiguration classroom. Avis supposed that that is what she would have done.

Realizing she had some time before Herbology later in the afternoon, Avis decided she'd take a trip up to the fifth floor. Unfortunately, this book was worth sacrificing a bit of energy for. She had some reading and notes to take before class and she needed that textbook desperately.

Finishing up the sandwich, Avis leapt up from the Ravenclaw table and shouldering her leather satchel, she marched out the large double doors, determined to keep this pace until she reached the Transfiguration classroom.
. . .

Unfortunately, that did not seem to be the case as she dragged herself up the last few steps, a bead of sweat leaving a streak down the side of her face. Avis checked the ticking clock on one of the walls. She had 20 minutes to Herbology, all the way back down the steps and outside. She groaned wondering if she should have waited until after class to make the journey up to the fifth floor. Well, it's too late now.

Avis dragged herself into the classroom, still trying to catch her breath. She glanced around in nervous anticipation, realizing a class was about to start as a few students filed in. Avis was about to make her way quickly to the front of the classroom to ask the professor about a missing book when a voice interrupted her thoughts.

"Are you missing a book? Some girl gave it to me this morning, and I can't seem to find the owner. It has the initials 'A.G.' in it," a girl with long brown hair dressed in Gryffindor robes said, waving her over. Avis' eyes lit up. Thank Merlin! How very astute of this girl. She must've noticed Avis' poorly hidden panic. She grimaced and walked over.

"Yes! I am missing a book. I heard that you're also an 'A.G.', yeah?" she joked, relief flooding through her nervous system.

The Ravenclaw girl seemed relieved to see the book in Avery's hand. Avery was also relieved that she had finally found the owner. She didn't know what she would have done if she couldn't have found her. "Yes! I am missing a book. I heard that you're also an 'A.G.', yeah?" the girl joked.

"Yeah, I guess I am also an A.G." Avery commented and laughed along with the girl. She was pretty with mid length dark brown hair and sparkling light blue eyes.

"I'm glad I found you. I didn't know what to do after the Hufflepuff gave me your book this morning!" Avery smiled at the girl. She seemed really nice, and it was cool that they shared the same initials. Maybe they could have a shot at being friends?

"What's your next class?" Avery was curious to get to know the girl. She seemed nice enough to hang out with sometime. She missed hanging out with her friend Ava because she got so busy with school they barely see each other.

Avery looked up and saw the rest of the class pulling out their books. Which meant class was starting. "Before you have to go, what's your name?" Avery asked the girl. Then she had to turn her head so it wouldn't look like she was chatting with another student. She didn't want either of them getting in trouble for chatting.

Avis smiled as the other "A.G." went along with her joke and laughed. Thank Merlin it had been someone helpful who'd come into possession of her book.

"Well, I probably would've gone and lost that as well if they'd given someone else's book to me," Avis replied, shaking her head, the smile still spread across her face.

"What's your next class?" the Gryffindor asked as a few more students shuffled into the Transfiguration classroom. Speaking of, it seemed class was about to start soon, which also meant that Avis was probably about to be late to Herbology. She hastily glanced at the clock on the wall and made a face.

"Herbology," she grumbled. Not only was she going to be late, but she was about to head to her least favorite class and the absolute bane of her existence. Avis shoved the book back into its place inside her satchel and gave the other girl a quick, last smile. She turned to leave as the class began to settle into their desks around them, but stopped as the other first year said something else. Shifting back around, she stuck out her hand for the other girl to take as she introduced herself.

"Avis. Avis Greymond," she replied confidently. "And yours?"

Avery took Avis's outstretched hand and said, "I'm Avery Gray. It's nice to meet you. I wish we had more time to chat. Maybe we can meet up after class?" Avery hoped the other girl would like to hang out. She was curious to get to know her. Especially since they had the same initials. It's not every day that you meet someone else that shares the same initials as you.

Avery watched Avis leave the classroom before pulling out her own book. She took a quick glance around the room before opening to the page she was reading last night. Hoping that there wasn't a lot they were doing today, so she could finish the chapter.

Avery spent the rest of the class listening to the teaching. It was one of those days that Avery wasn't interested in working. She just wanted to spend time with her friends. She had also skipped lunch in order to study some more. She could hear her stomach growling in protest, and she made a mental note to not skip dinner.

Finally, after what felt like hours, class was over for the day. Avery had about 30 minutes of free time before dinner, so she walked out into the courtyard. The fresh November air filling her lungs and making her feel free. She sat down next to the fountain. Reveling in the fact that she was finally free of classes for the day.
