Poisons And Potions

Darcy Payne walked quickly but quietly into the dim class, just a mere few seconds before it was to start. She carefully sat down in her seat with the wobbly leg (that was always trying to fall down, to her annoyance), making sure not to cause a reaction of last year's possibly fatal and harmful residues sunken into the cracks and ridges of her table ('How and why haven't they cleaned this up yet?'), and waiting to be assigned for the potion she had to make, she got out her textbook ('Magical Drafts And Potions') and swiftly turned the pages until she got to the simpler potions. There was the Wiggenweld Potion, an Antidote To Common Poisons, a Black Fire Potion ('Being completely immune to fire? Cool..' she had said to herself in her mind) and many other remedies, concoctions and enhancers, including the Cure For Boils Potion. The class assignment was the latter, Cure For Boils, so Darcy read up on it, and the process and exact amounts of each item needed. After gathering the ingredients necessary (Dried Nettles, Snake Fangs, Horned Slugs and Porcupine Quills), all she had to do was find a partner... But who?

Poisons And Potions
The cure for boils. Simple, dull but likely to be one they'd have to use in some obscure circumstance so it was best to pay attention. She wanted good grades after all and besides, Jessica had seen the students at her father's muggle school. Ugly, spotty creatures most of them. Muggle face care hardly seemed effective when compared with their wizarding counterparts. But if that was what regular acne did to teenagers, Jessica practically shuddered to imagine herself hit with a pimple hex and unable to cure it. Her beautiful face, tarnished! An entire scenario began to unfold in her head, one where she was stood proud in front of the class only to catch a glimpse of her spotted reflection and other students erupt into laughter.
This would not happen!
Jessica's motivation flipped on itself at the thought. This was no longer about grades! This was about her very reputation! And some of her classmates were sitting there, giggling, paying not the slightest bit of attention...
The half-blood girl slammed her book down on the desk of her fellow Slytherin first years. "This can't be treated lightly!" She scowled at the group. "If you become an ugly pimple faced goblin, don't come to me for help!"
Jessica glanced across the other Slytherins. Only one other Slytherin girl had gotten the ingredients so far and she certainly was not going near the boys or the Gryffindor tables on the other side of the classroom.
What was this girl's name? Dena? Darcy? Dory? She was still learning. "Well you seem you might know what you're doing, did you bring enough ingredients for two?"

I'll prove worthy of my blood. Whatever it takes.

Poisons And Potions
Darcy looked up from scribbling down everything she could remember, and a dark-haired Slytherin girl was talking to her.
"Well you seem you might know what you're doing, did you bring enough ingredients for two?"
"O-oh!" She easily tuned out to everything, so someone talking to her brought her immediately into reality. She had seen this girl before, she came just a few people before Darcy in the sorting ceremony, as her surname began with L... or was it an M? It didn't matter, this is experience would likely make or break her reputation, as this girl seemed very respectable and would most likely grow popular in the future. If Darcy ended up befriending her, maybe for one she would have more than three friends at once.
"Yeah, I've got just enough. So, uh, do you want to exchange notes, or-" Darcy shook her head. She was already blowing it. She'd be the 'weirdo' or 'nerd' again, and she'd probably end up as an outcast again. Her appearance wasn't helping, either. She was concealing a hoodie covered in barbeque sauce, icecream and milkshake stains under her cloak, and her thick, rather matted hair was in a messy ponytail. But she refused to let her reputation plummet without trying to keep it good, so she needed to do everything she could.
"Anyway, I have the rules written down, and if you ask me, I'm sure as long as we put our minds to it, we can be the best in the class!" Darcy felt a lot more confident now, and her academic (and social) future was looking a little brighter.
