"The common rooms? Where in the world could those be located?" He asked. Jane looked up from her plate with a mouthful of bread at the grinning boy. Her cheeks flushed as she covered her mouth with her hand and swallowed her food then chased it with some pumpkin juice. She cleared her throat before she spoke to Ross, "Oh, the entrance to our common room is on the first floor. Near some barrels I think?" The girl's reply was a little slow as she didn't realize he had heard her. A smile crossed her face as she recalled her mother telling her all about Hufflepuff. Of course she wouldn't tell Jane how to enter the Hufflepuff common, because what if she hadn't gotten into Hufflepuff.

"Do you know much of this school?" He questioned. She finished drinking the rest of her pumpkin juice before replying to him. "Uhm, kind of. My parents both went here when they were my age, but I think they said they hadn't met until their fourth year. My dad was in Slytherin and mom was in Hufflepuff, so I know more about those houses. They told me all about their sorting and stuff before I came here." Jane beamed as she spoke about her parents. She had nothing but love and respect to associate with them both.

The first floor? He was a little nervous, as that implied there were more. Sure, he did not expect this to all be on one floor. He had already seen it for himself along with the rest of the students, so he was not sure why he was concerned of it. Oh well, it was a comfort knowing they had a common room. He wondered how it would look.

"Near some barrels? Well that must be comfortable." he remarked.

This school was so odd. Everything was the opposite of what a human would expect. The dead were undead, the candles were floating. If he were not here at this very moment, he would not believe his own eyes. He had so much to ask. He had so much to do. Curiosity itched at him.

"Your mum and dad were both wizards? That certainly is bizarre! My dad claims he is a wizard. Mum hasn't said much of it. Dad didn't tell me much of this school. He explained.

He really didn't know much of this world of all. He cared for his parents and missed them dearly, but he just was not sure what everything was that had to do with their goodbye. He wished his father had told him more, but apparently that didn't happen. Then again, maybe it was for the better. He got to spend as much time as he could with him before he went off to this odd school.

For a moment, an idea flashed into his head. All he had in his hand was bread, and he was nearly done. He was somewhat nervous he would get lost within the school, and he was well aware now that @Jane Owens knew far more of the place than he did. He fiddled around for a bit, feeling doubts of his idea. Would this hurt anyone if he were to put it into action? He doubted it would, but still. He thought he would ask her the question he needed to know just in case.

"Could you perhaps show me around sometime?" he asked as quietly as he could while being heard.

Quinn scoffed loudly as they discussed the common rooms. “I hope you all know how to keep rhythm,” she said, standing up. She rolled her eyes as they turned a bright red, her hair following suit.

“Must be nice to have Wizards in the family,” she laughed again. “To know about all this stuff and experience it all your life.” Her voice grew louder, then suddenly she fell silence, sitting down abruptly and her eyes and hair turning a dark blue again.

Looking up, her eyes were apologetic but her words were caught in her throat, so she just mouthed the words ‘I’m sorry’ while her eyes flooded with tears.

“Normally I’m not so emotional, I promise,” she said, wiping the tears and laughing calmly.

Then Quinn offered to show them around, quoting Hogwarts, A History for her reference material. She claimed she had read the whole thing and had most of it memorised, so the map of the castle was in her head. She had seemed proud as she spoke, a direct opposite to her mood swing from earlier. Quinn acted like nothing had happened, ignoring the looks from those around her who had turned towards her during her fit.

Hufflepuff. My mother always said I would be a Hufflepuff. I guess it's because I would do anything for my friends. That's true, but i'm definitely not as friendly as all the rest of the kids look. I walked over to the crowded Hufflepuff table, keeping my head held down but still peeking to look for a open section. Not a space where I would be in between two people, or at the end of the table, I wanted a nice 5 foot distance from everyone. I didn't intend to make any friends here. As I approached an empty space, I estimated about 4 and a half feet between me and the next person. Good enough. All that was in my head was "I don't want to be here. I don't want to be here. I don't want to be HERE" I want to be HOME, in Cambridge, watching the Superbowl with David and Olivia. Not here. Anywhere but here. I missed them already, and it's only the first day. No way i'm going to last the year. I quietly, inconspicuously sat down in the big empty space. I pulled my hood over my head. I waited for the sorting to end, so I could just shove myself under the covers, in warmth and security. That's what I need right now. A lump formed in my throat.

Sincerely, Me

Logan slowly walked towards the Hufflepuff table. She was the first in her family to be sorted into this house, which was a slight accomplishment on her part. She assumed her family thought she would be in Ravenclaw, but at this point she didn't care. She carefully looked around and spotted someone that looked nice enough to sit by. She walked towards @Cosmo Taylor and quietly asked, "Is this seat taken?" as she motioned towards the empty seat beside him. She didn't want to be rude and sit down if someone else was already there and her etiquette lessons taught her to make sure that she asked before sitting down near a stranger. Her accent think with how nervous she was to start the new year at a new school. She had no idea how this was going to go over, she hadn't met anyone on the Hogwarts Express and everyone she knew from her family's parties were either older than her or sorted into a completely different house. She awkwardly fiddled with the edges of her robe, nervous on what the response was going to be. She didn't know the kid and for all she knew, he could tell her to go away.

(sorry i kinda switch POV depending on the situation)

Cosmo swallowed the lump in his throat. He heard a voice behind him, he turned around to look. It was a girl. He scanned @Logan Baird quietly, wondering whether he should just let her sit in the big empty space with him, or tell her to leave. He wanted to tell her to leave, but he didn't have the heart to. He certainly didn't want to make the wrong impression on anyone, but still not have some random person who thought her was nice so they would follow him around everywhere he went. That would be annoying. Cosmo then spoke to her. "Sure, go ahead." He said in his awkward half American half British accent. He hated his accent, he would sometimes get teased about it. He then scooted over and pulled his hood over his head, staring at the patterns on the wooden table in front of him. It was noisy, Cosmo wanted to cover his ears. Despite growing up in New York, he still hated noise and bright lights. He couldn't stand car lights during the night and the constant crashing and driving noises, which was part of why he moved to Cambridge.

Logan smiled softly at @Cosmo Taylor. "Thank you," she mumbled a little, afraid that she had made the other Hufflepuff uncomfortable with asking to sit here. She sat down quickly to get out of the way of others walking by her, not wanting to make a fool of herself on the first day. Logan noticed he put his hood up and looked uncomfortable, so she decided to be nice. "I apologize, what is your name? I am Logan Baird." she questioned, a smile still on her face as she turned her self slightly to look at the other Hufflepuff. She wasn't sure if he would answer her or not, but she was at least going to try and make friends with someone. Gently, she shifted the hair, falling from her braid, out face. Her hair was a bit of a mess at this point and she wanted to try and make a good impression when making new friends. Her eyes glinted softly against the lights from the candle, and almost anyone would be able to see that she was happy where she currently was. She was still fiddling with the sleeves of her robes though, a nervous habit that her mother had yelled at her about many times before.

Cosmo nodded as she sat down, still looking at the wooded tables as if he was reading. He then noticed @Logan Baird was speaking to him again. He almost didn't understand the question at first, like his brain couldn't comprehend it. Then his brain connected the neurons. She asked him what his name was. He was hesitant to answer, afraid what would happen if he made any more social interactions, but he couldn't not respond. He opened his mouth, closed it for a second, then opened it again. "Cosmo... Taylor." This time when he spoke most of his New York accent came out than his British side. He hoped she didn't notice. Not that he really was planning on interacting with her again and this would matter, he was just self-conscious and always cared what the world thought of him. David and Olivia didn't mind his mixed accent, but they were his best friends. Who knows what strangers would thing of him. He took a fidget spinner out of his pocket and started spinning it, he had to keep his hands busy. He hoped the kids had seen or even heard of fidget spinners before... they were really trending in America.

Logan grinned at the fact that she was able to get @Cosmo Taylor to respond. "I really like your name Cosmo. It is unique." she smiled widely at the fact that she may have started the process of making her first friend at Hogwarts. She had promised her family she would try and make friends at the school. She noticed that he pulled something out of his pocket and tilted her head a little confused until she realized what it was. "Is that a fidget spinner Cosmo?" she questioned, just to make sure she was correct on her assumption. "You don't have to answer if you don't want to." She stated quickly, afraid she was making him uncomfortable. She hadn't really seen them before but heard about them enough from her brothers that she was able to identify one. Once she got a chance to write a letter to her family, she would make sure to mention the fact that she had found someone who owned a fidget spinner. Her brothers weren't allowed them because of the chances of someone getting injured. At least according to her aunt. Shaking her head a little to pay attention, Logan continued to smile.
