Oliver always enjoyed the first month back to Hogwarts the most. Not only was exam season the farthest away they could be, but it was also a time when the school was alive with the buzz of reunions. Students had returned from their holidays, and the halls were filled with excited chatter as friends reconnected, all the student's bottled-up excitement for Hogwarts was unleashed with laughter and conversation.
Even Oliver, who didnβt have anyone to reconcile with himself, and who always viewed Hogwarts as a place to simply attempt to tackle or 'manage' his condition while keeping up with his studies, found a strange sense of belonging in the castle that he could not explain. By the time the holidays had ended, he found himself missing Hogwarts, despite the challenges it brought. It wasnβt the classrooms, or the rigorous schedule, or even the constant struggle with his condition that he missedβit was the pulse of the school itself, the sense of community and adventure it gave him yet he didn't always wish for, the chance to do something beyond simply surviving.
He soon found himself walking out of the castle, to take in the view of the Corridors, springing with life by returning students, and even more packed with First Years. Oliver had mixed feelings towards First Years, there were the annoying, the thoughtful, the cruel, and the nosy. It seemed every first year was a box of chocolates when it came to attitude, still brimming with emotion, but whether Oliver 'liked' or rather, could stand a First Year was up in the air until they opened their puffy mouths and let out whatever tight squeak of opinion they had.
A cold, stone bench awaited Oliver near the perimeter of the Courtyard. The repeated Second Year Student strode towards it, with each step heavy, weighed down by the perpetual fatigue he could never shake off. Oliver dropped down onto the bench with a sigh, leaning back against the cold, weathered stone. The students around him went about their usual chatter. Oliver wasnβt there to join them, to engage or entertain. He settled into the seat, or at least tried to, yet his body was stiff and stung with aching joints. His baggy, bloodshot eyes, the pale, ghastly complexion, and the begrudging expression on his face watched the events of the Courtyard unfold like a theatrical play, trying to soak the happiness radiating off of every passerby.

Ten days.
It was surprising to him that he'd only been at Hogwarts for ten days. It had gone so quick, everyone had seemed so excited to help the new first years settle in and quickly those first years had begun to band together and form friendship groups. Some of them were likely to last years, friends supporting each other through Hogwarts and throughout their adult lives. Others would drift apart as those involved grew older and personalities shifted.
Hogwarts felt like a home to Rhys and he couldn't quite explain why. Everyone at Hogwarts genuinely seemed happy to be there, from the older students conversing amongst friends they'd had since day one to the newer students trying to make an impression to family members squabbling like they had done since they were little. To Rhys, Hogwarts felt like the most accepting place he'd ever been.
He'd found a small group of first years out in the courtyard and had taken to trying to impress them. He hung from a small tree, using all of the muscle and strength he had to keep himself hanging and to not drop like an idiot.
"All quite easy this magic thing is, ain't it" he spoke for the first time, finally allowing himself to drop from the tree to the stone courtyard below. "I mean, even the least academic people here are able to cast a few spells" he continued. "I for one have taken an absolute liking to charms. Something about it just seems to click with me, yknow" he continued, casting his eyes around the group.
He was really starting to like Hogwarts

If the courtyard was a play, then Rhys was an antagonist, some haughty, ill-mannered child spreading prejudice and arrogance across the 'stage' with his every word. That typical character that no man with common sense would ever agree with, simply there to stir the crowd, a character you'd wish you could rip out of the fiction and teach them a lesson, yes, Oliver reminded himself this is real, he isn't watching some performance, some stage-play or story, he is watching a young kid speak utter garbage.
"Damn it all..." Oliver rose from his seat, a relenting sigh bellowing from deep within his chest and rising up in unison with unsteady standing. He pocketed his hands in the folds of his robe, and slowly walked over to the group of 1st Years, he wasn't having some eye-sore lace the positivity of the courtyard.
Oliver was fairly taller, being 2 years older, than the group of 1st Years, he towered with his red-soaked eyes and textureless white skin at the pack, his eyes staring directly into Rhys'. His hunched back and solemn expression, clearly, simply out of it, but none the less passionate to talk to this young lad. His voice broke out of a momentary silence, commanding, deep, and clear.
"Oliver Thorn. I'm a 3rd Year." A lie, Oliver was a 2nd Year, albeit could have been a 3rd Year if he didn't fail his tests a couple months back. "And I believe you're talking utter rubbish!"
Flipping his hands from the fold of his Hufflepuff robes, striding confidently towards the Ravenclaw and taking his wrist, Oliver dragged Rhys into a section seperate, yet adjacent to the courtyard, much more secluded. The 2nd Year narrowed his eyes on the boy, he had many features that reminded him of himself, the dark, once-short, brown hair, the aware, curious eyes, and colour in his face that enchanted every expression, most Oliver now lacked, the condition taking the many positive attributes of his face in return with the visage of a haunting ghost. Oliver swallowed and recollected his thoughts, recounting why he took the kid away, right, disrupting the courtyard.
"You know 1st Years are quite gullible," Oliver's mocking words shot straight at the young one, "You think you got all the magic figured out because you got a feather to fly. And 'Least Academic'? You talking about the ones who spend their time on the flying pitch for Quidditch? Or the ones helping clubs and making friends? Or maybe the ones with a knack for Creatures, for History, for other things besides spells and potions."
Oliver practically spat, he had a problem with each and every word this young man said, he had practically begun huffing from his rant.
"Believe it or not, Hogwarts isn't a competition."
