For someone who didn't play the sport anymore, she sure as hell spent a lot of time in the Duelling Club after her retirement. It was pretty ironic considering she'd half-left it to focus more on flying only to have to pull out her wand every two days outside of classes. It was getting to the point where even 'it's for broom racing practice' wasn't a viable excuse for how much time she spent up here. Racing and throwing spells was not the same as duelling on land.
Okay, maybe she was over-exaggerating her appearances here. She was being asked to moderate a duel every few days or so, which was... kind of confusing? Because it wasn't even her sport? If anything, she fully expected people to come up and ask her to watch over a race because that was natural. A Racing Captain watching a duel? You might as well be asking a Duelling Captain to watch over a Quidditch match. Then again, Alyssea only ever agreed because she already knew how to watch duels from her past experience. It was the first sport she ever had contact in.
She thought Prat was insane for duelling Lea. Duelling her cousin, Raizel, was less of an insane choice but still very concerning. Just how many duels was this guy doing every week? It was very much like Raizel's old streak before the girl also retired with Alyssea. The Hufflepuff didn't bother doing her usual spiel as they entered, only gave them a nod and stood at the moderator's spot of the piste. Just how many daydreams could she flick through before they both dropped dead?

❂《 ⌜ November 14, 2024 ▎ Evening, before dinner ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔If one knows Raizel, they would know how much she had duel in the past, not just against those who are in her own years but even against higher years. If they know her, they would've heard of how she had duelled one of the duelling captains from Hufflepuff, namely, Lea Hirsch before and got sent to the hospital wing, oh how she was crazy enough to take Flipendos from a powerful witch, Dealla Prince and that in every duelling event, she was, at most, participating in them. That was the reputation that she had built for herself, a reputation that she had left behind the moment she had decided to step down and retire as she tried to figure out what she should do next, if this was the sport for her.
She was burnt out.
If one knows her, then they would know that she shouldn't be here, in the duelling club for she had no reason to be. She had been avoiding it, wanting to have nothing to do with it anymore because she couldn't see the point of continuing when all the times she had worked hard for it, nothing came out of it. But as of lately, she was getting called back. It started with a couple of duels that she had agreed to, sparking back that interest and then there's the Co-Captain thing that she was lucky to be picked for and then that event in Hogsmeade that sealed the deal. She needs to come back and try again to pursue the power and experience that she seeks for facing danger.
While broom racing is giving her enough of that experience… she needed more. It was not enough. And that is how she decided to pick up that wand once again for duelling. But before she could start going back to her duelling streak (unofficially of course), she needed to be whipped back into shape. She's out of duelling practice, too rusty at it which is not good and that's the reason why she is here again, to get all the practice she needs. “Please go easy on me, I'm out of shape.” She said to her opponent with a chuckle. Well, she wasn't serious with that go easy part, that is not her style and besides, it'd be best for her to get the full duelling experience.

AEIOUSAPrat came in and stood at the edge of the dueling piste, feeling a mixture of excitement and determination as he gathered his thoughts. Perhaps a bit of insanity was creeping in, evidenced by the insane standards with which he was taking on so many duels, especially against skilled opponents. Prat however in his own reasonings saw dueling more than just a sport. He saw it as his way to push himself forward, to measure his own growth. He mused. Every duel was a chance to learn, to get better.
He glanced at Alyssea and then his duelling opponent for today, Rai, waving a subtle "Hello!!" to both now that he was somewhat acquainted with them before stepping onto the piste. Adjusted his grip on his wand, replaying the rules and strategies he had built up in his mind as he prepared for another duel, this time however going in with no expectations towards the outcome.
It was time for him to put all that practice to the test. He focused on his opponent for the duel, feeling the familiar adrenaline rush of stepping up to duel. In the recent days the dueling club and the hospital wing had become a second home to him. Hoping not to visit that place again, Prat sighed one last time. "Here we go" he thought, stepping forward with a determined look in his eyes.

Alyssea was humming a song from the same musical she'd been telling Zach about two months ago on the first day of school. She was also swaying to the beat of the music, moving her head here and there as she (mentally) mimicked the choreography she could remember from all the videos she'd seen on TikTok.
All the while, Prat and Raizel threw their spells as is customary for duels. Raizel's was the classic Tickling Charm, though it looked rather weak both in casting and aim. Alyssea shrugged it off. Raizel was obviously right with mentioning that she was probably rusty, considering the girl had moved to a different sport. The code switch from Duelling to Racing then back to Duelling was something.
Prat was doing slightly better, though there was a chance his spell could've died before he even aimed it. Luckily, the spell manifested in the end and his aim was significantly better. In the end, it hit Raizel's arm and Alyssea watched with wide eyes as her arm softened, almost melted into something entirely unrecognisable. She stopped her humming and daydream as she considered the move. That... that was a good idea, actually, but also looked like it had to be incredibly painful.

❂《 ⌜ November 14, 2024 ▎ Evening, before dinner ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔There is another thing that people should know about this certain Gryffindor and that’s her losing streak and her horrible luck that she can’t seem to escape no matter what she tries to do. There are times that she challenges this luck of hers, to give it their best shot in making her miserable and it did but there are also times that she manages to defy it, giving her hope for a short time. Today is such a day that her bad luck struck and that combined with how rusty she is when it comes to duelling, both her spellcasting and aim were… miserable.
Did she just struggle to cast that Tickling Charm? Yes. Did she just miss her target? Absolutely. Did she just get hit by her opponent? Yup. All the bad things that could happen, happened all at once. Maybe it was time to set aside whatever pride she has left and beg for people to go easy on her… no, not a chance. While her arm felt like a jelly thanks to that spell that Prat just shot at her and she is in a bad situation, it’s kind of early to lose hope, too early to give up. Remember, she fought through the bitter end when she was the only one left standing in her team despite the losing battle. She can do that again in this duel.
Bear it, she would tell herself, the adrenaline numbing out any sense of pain. “What luck…” she muttered, couldn’t even raise that arm of hers properly. What to do now…

AEIOUSAPrat couldn't help but have a slight smirk on his face as he observed Raizel's Rictusempra miss him by a hair's breadth. It's force dissipating into the air beside him. His own Spongify on the other hand was successful in finding its mark. Even striked Raizel's arm. Her arm jiggled and tossed like jelly now, immediately going limp at her side. The look of shock on Rai's face was kind of priceless to witness for Prat.
He felt an initial brief surge of pride at his rare successful aim he managed to have once in a blue moon. The transformation occuring on Rai was more gruesome than he could have anticipated, making Prat wince internally. This was perhaps the harsh reality of dueling, audience often seemed to forget how the spells weren't just for show. They had real tangible effects on the duellists. Knowing that the match wasn't over yet, Prat tightened his grip on his wand.
Despite his initial success in the match, Prat could not shake off this peculiar feeling of unease that had settled in his gut in the previous days. A premonition of what might come whispered to him from the shadows of fate (bro is gaslighting himself, he is not a seer). Yet he remained unable to pinpoint the reason for his doubts. His hunches however were often more reliable than his most carefully calculated strategies.

There was no 'second round curse', so to speak, but it looked close enough to one that Alyssea basically spaced out. Not that she could fault any of them for their chosen actions, however. If anything, they were smart about it all.
Prat took the opportunity to have wiggly-armed Raizel burned to a crisp as he shot some green flames. His spell-casting was the opposite of the previous round, however, with how nice his wand movement was but his aim was just... awful, to put it nicely. If anything, Raizel didn't even need to exert that much effort to actually dodge it. On the other hand, she buffed herself with a spell similar to the Bravery Charm, though its incantation and effects were unknown to Alyssea. It was a good call considering her melted arm probably wouldn't do much good in its state.
Speaking of Raizel's arm, the Softening Charm hadn't been very strong considering it righted itself soon after she buffed herself. Alyssea pondered on the anatomy of such a spell on a person's perception of pain; did the bones inside also soften or is it just the illusion of a softened arm? What would happen if it hit any other part of the body? Her curiosity was mostly born out of being a healing intern and she figured Nurse Sabo would probably have an answer for her the next time she went for a shift.

AEIOUSAIn the round following his successful Spongify he felt somewhat confident in his abilities , With this confidence behind reinforcing his actions, Prat called upon the fiery might of an Incendio Duo. The flame shot from his wand aiming for Raizel. Unfortunately for him, his nerves got better of him, his aim way off as if he had buttons for eyes. The projectiles sailed past Raizel before hitting the ground extinguishing, just like Prat's dream of landing a hit..
By now Rai's Spongify-affected arm had already returned to normal, the jello like substance it had turned to now gone. Prat took a step back, his eyes assessing Rai's performance as she seemed to do something Prat had never seen before. Yet prat's cheeks burned had a blush of embarrassment at his misfire, refusing to show it in his stance however. Prat was aware he had to regain control of the game. Prevent his fears of uncertainity and luck to not let them cloud his judgement for the game or to throw him off his balance. He reminded himself that this match was still even, they both stood there without even a scratch. He knew had to keep pushing it forward if he intended to win.

Not so much, that was long shattered by her constant losses and bad luck that until this day, she is trying to recover from. It’s not really going so well considering what is happening at the moment but again, it’s too early to lose hope and, the effect of Spongify was slowly losing its effect, her arms started feeling normal again albeit slowly. Her opponent wasn’t letting her go that easily, not waiting for that spell to end without trying to get another hit in.
Fire
Images flashed before her, taking her back once more to Hogsmeade and for that brief moment, she felt her courage falter. It made her step back, almost looking frozen by that fear trying to eat her up inside. In the end, she didn’t let that win. As she wiped the image of that horrific event in her mind, she was brought back to the duelling club, the fire, despite it being an Incendio Duo, doesn’t look as menacing as before, making it easier to dodge. Now, with her courage back, what she only needs is that confidence that she had lost, even if it’s just for a short time. “Serenate!” This is a spell that she wasn’t expecting to use. She’s an offense oriented witch, most of the spells she uses were all damaging spells or ones that were made to cause destruction but it never hurts to know and master a couple of support types and this one is something that she needs.
Raizel took a deep breath just to calm her nerves. She knows how her mind works by now, on how frustrated she’ll get when her bad luck strikes and thanks to that, she needs to do extra work to not lose herself and maybe, find this duel fun, especially if there are things that she wanted to test out. “Let’s keep at it. Loosen up a bit, eh?” She grinned, that Serenate doing its work or perhaps that’s just her normal self getting a bit excited at the thought of experimenting on spells.

The two of them had gone slightly off the rails at this point. Last Alyssea checked, you couldn't actually cause hives to a person in the middle of a duel? It was a weird spell they'd learned as Second years back in History of Magic (another questionable choice of a class to learn such a spell from but Alyssea didn't really feel like getting into the logistics of it) that didn't look like it'd have any application aside from being a nuisance. The Freezing Charm, however (not to be confused with the Freezing Spell), was an illegal spell in Racing. If anyone got caught casting it, they would have to run a penalty lap.
Now, this wasn't really Alyssea's sport so making executive decisions based on the choices of Duelling Captains seemed out of her pay grade. Actually, scratch that—definitely out of her pay grade. Last Alyssea checked, Duelling didn't really have a cheating system, so she couldn't just tell Raizel to take a penalty lap. A penalty lap in a duel like this would just waste time. So, Alyssea just watched and observed the way Prat's Hive-Conjuring Spell missed and then watched him freeze on the spot as Raizel immobilised him. Wonderful. This was definitely going to be a fun duel.

- NEW: if you want to use spells outside of the Duelling System, you can but you should both agree to it. I will either adjust the spells (if they're in the Racing System) or make something up for the narrative
