Clumsy and Helpless

The day was one just like any other. It was now mid morning, and Tatiana's day had been rather average and uneventful so far. She'd attended flying in the morning, followed by Potions, and now had a free period for a few hours. Still not quite time for lunch, she decided she'd head to her favorite spot in the library and get a head start on that night's homework. Packing her textbooks and leather bound notebook in her shoulder bag, she left her dormitory and passed through the portrait hole of her common room.
The corridors were bustling with students as everyone's school day had begun. Tatiana's first year had been a rather exciting one so far and the semester was in full swing. All of her classes seemed to be picking up at the same time, and though she considered herself an excellent student, she was struggling a bit to stay on top of it all. Her grades were very important to her, as they were one of the few things in her life of which she felt totally in control of. She had started the year with an exceptional 'O' average and wasn't about to let a slightly busier than usual week break her streak now.
Herbology and Potions were never difficult, as they were her favorites, but she had experienced a little struggle the week prior when she failed to successfully perform a Charm in class. It was embarrassing, to say the least, and not a feeling she was familiar with. But having come from a Muggle background, and only just learning about the magic that ran through her veins upon receiving her letter to Hogwarts, she felt a bit of shame when she came across as less prepared than some of her peers. It wasn't that she wasn't trying, or that she hadn't read up on the lesson before ever stepping foot in class- because she certainly had- but her wand technique was proving not quite up to par.
In an effort to combat her feelings of inadequacy, Tatiana had been spending almost all of her free time in the library, or anywhere really, catching up and getting ahead in her studies. She was up late, and rose early, to practice her wand techniques in the quiet hours of the day, private from the eyes of her classmates. The sorting hat had placed her in Ravenclaw, after all, and the last thing she wanted to come off as was less than everyone else. Less intelligent, less prepared, less able. She wouldn't have considered herself a competitor before, at least not outside of school, but had been feeling an overwhelming urge to prove herself since arriving at Hogwarts. To who? She wasn't sure. Maybe her parents, her teachers, her classmates- but maybe just herself.
Finally arriving at the library, she was pleased to find it just as she hoped- relatively empty, as it was most times in the middle of the school day. Taking her usual place at her favorite corner table near the window, she removed her study materials from her bag and turned to the chapter they had covered just this morning in Potions class. Taking out her quill, and opening to the page she'd written on earlier, she began to take notes on everything she could remember that Professor Price had said.

Airlia had been up early and at the library quite quickly. She knew a shortcut that she found by accident when she fell down a flight of stairs and ended up going through a painting that turned out to be a secret passageway you could just walk through right into the library.
She sat by a desk and flipped through her potions book without reading anything as she drew faceless girls with intricate hairstyles into her parchment. She twirled her hair around a finger and tried to find a book she might understand a bit better. Like one meant for children under the age of six.
She wandered around the library as she was caught off track when she started to follow a charmed butterfly. Then she spoke about shoes to a fellow Hufflepuff, then ate an apple given to her by a classmate, then looked for a trash can to put the core into, then ended up feeding it to a tiny owl someone had brought with them. After that, she thought she should write a letter to her brother again and ended up writing to her mother instead.
She smiled when she looked at the clock and realized that an hour had passed by finally. An hour is the amount of time she'd predicted it would take for her to do her homework, but as she returned to the desk she'd left all her school supplies on she was surprised over the fact that she hadn't written a single line of her two-foot-long essay. She couldn't remember what she'd been doing all this time and noticed that her remembrall was filled with bright red smoke.
She made a pouty face and wondered why a random Ravenclaw hadn't just walked over and done her homework for her. That had happened once... Or maybe she'd done it herself and just couldn't remember... But she had gotten an A in that homework and she never got an Acceptable from potions so someone else must have done it.
She'd once heard a legend that if you place your schoolbook on an empty parchment and place your quill on top of the book, then walk ten times in a small circle while touching the tip of your nose and looking straight up at the ceiling; the book will copy the answers right onto the paper.
And so Airlia placed her book on her parchment, placed her will on top of that, started walking in a circle while touching her nose and stared at the roof as she spun in circles. She felt incredibly dizzy and once she stopped she noticed two big Bambi eyes looking at her with confusion.

Clumsy and Helpless
Review, review, review. That was Tatiana's policy when it came to studying. Granted, that was everyones'- or at least she assumed- but she could be a bit... excessive. Often times she found herself dreaming about things she'd tried so desperately to drill into her head during the day. Today, her focus was potions, and her first step was always to write down as many things as she could remember from class before she ever opened her textbook. She'd filled almost a foot of parchment paper when the thoughts abruptly stopped. Okay, that's it, she thought to herself. Now to move on. She turned the pages of her textbook until she reached the lesson they'd covered that day and proceeded to compare her notes to those in the book.
There are three types of potions; physical, mental, and environmental. Check.
Potioneers should never, under any circumstance, ingest an environmental potion. Check.
A potion created in an inadequate environment can quickly become a poison. Check.
A wide grin spread across her face as everything she'd written down appeared to perfectly mimic, almost verbatim, the lesson in the text. She was very much a Ravenclaw in that sense, finding gratitude in even the most basic of educational accomplishments. She'd barely made it halfway through the lesson when she started noticing the snowy white haired Hufflepuff girl wandering around the library. She was being rather distracting, if Tatiana was being honest. First, following a butterfly. Then, stopping to talk to other students. She ate an apple, wandered around, fed the core to someone's grateful pet owl. She stopped briefly to return to her table of school supplies, Tatiana assumed to work on homework, but finished rather quickly before getting up out of her seat again.
Even with her seemingly aimless wandering, and random assortment of actions, none were quite as odd as what she proceeded to do next. First, she stacked her things- parchment on the table, then her textbook, and finally her quill on top. And then, to Tatiana’s confusion, began walking in circles with her finger on the tip of her nose. What was she expecting to happen here? Was this some sort of odd magical ritual of which she was not aware of having grown up under the guise of thinking she was a muggle? Surely, this couldn’t have been the case.
Even though she was still figuring out her own magical abilities, she’d enthusiastically been educating herself through all sorts of magical texts, reading them all cover to cover- sometimes more than once. And in all her reading, never, not once, had she come across any magical practices even remotely similar to what this girl was currently doing. In fact, she was acting in such an odd manner, she had managed to complete distract Tatiana and hinder her from being able to study any further. In an attempt to figure out what in the world was going on, she set down her quill and walked a few tables over, stopping a few feet away from the girl, making sure she wasn’t intruding on her circle path she had formed. “Uhm…hello,” she said, a bit nervous. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything but, may I ask what it is you’re doing?”

Clumsy and Helpless
Airlia looked at the girl that had spoken to her. She felt like the world was spinning in front of her eyes and she grabbed the nearby bookshelf to regain her balance. "I'm doing my homework of course." Airlia said and smiled.
The girl in front of her was pretty. She had nice brown hair flouncing around her shoulders and a smile to admire. She had blue eyes that were like water in the Caribbean. Clear and bright. She had light tones skin, much more sunkissed than Airlia's. She stood tall and had great posture. Briefly, Airlia wondered if it came to her naturally or if it had been taught to her during etiquette training.
The girl was clearly a Ravenclaw. You could see it from the colors of her school robes and the girl did seem to have a dignifying smartness about her. Something Airlia lacked but made up with grace... Usually. Now she most likely looked rather stupid, but as a naive growing girl Airlia didn't feel embarrassed; after all, she was just studying.
Airlia walked over to the desk where her books layed and lifted them up from her parchment. She then frowned as she gazed upon a completely empty page. "Aww... It didn't work." She pouted and wondered if maybe she should take another shot at it. Maybe she'd forgotten a step?
She looked at the parchment against the light if maybe her homework had just appeared with invisible ink or gotten lost on another parchment. So naturally she also flipped through the rest and when she couldn't find her homework anywhere she felt like crying.
There was no way for her to do her homework before her next potions class. She would get a T... Again...

Tatiana was briefly taken aback at the girls' bluntness. "I'm doing my homework of course," she said with a smile, and a tone as if her actions should have been totally obvious. She stood silently with her mouth slightly agape as she watched her pick up her textbook off the parchment and immediately begin frowning, apparently whatever magic trick she had been trying to perform had failed. Surely, this can't be a thing, she thought to herself, honestly perplexed at the confidence in which the girl was going about her routine. For the first time she found herself really questioning her own sanity. Sure, magic was a rather new concept in her life, but what she was doing- or rather trying to do- seemed, well, highly improbable.
If it was true, and this feat was possible, wouldn't she have seen other students doing it? And even if some witch or wizard, somewhere, had created such an odd- though potentially quite helpful- magical practice, why would they make the ritual so... silly? One couldn't honestly expect her to believe it would require walking around in circles with a finger on the tip of your nose, as opposed to a much more efficient waving of a wand, maybe even an incantations of sorts. But surely not this.
"Aww... It didn't work," she said, pouting, picking the parchment up from the table. She started holding it up above her head, scrutinizing it, seemingly hoping the light would reveal something she had yet been unable to see on the page. Shuffling through the remainder of the pages in the parchment stack, the girl started to become upset, obviously unable to find whatever it was that was supposed to be there. A quick glance at her face and Tatiana noticed she seemed truly troubled by whatever had just happened here, looking almost as if she were on the verge of tears.
Attempting to ease her feelings of apparent panic, even if only temporarily, Tatiana urgently glanced around at the girls things, desperately trying to determine what her end goal was supposed to have been. On the table were the usual supplies, most of which she'd already observed. There was the parchment, and a quill, of course. And the textbook. Yes! If she could only figure out what it was she was trying to study for, if that was even what she was doing, maybe she could help her. Taking a few more steps toward her, she craned her neck to see the title on the spine, Magical Drafts and Potions.
Perfect! Tatiana thought to herself. Aside from it being one of her best subjects, it was also what she had been studying, at least she was before she had noticed the strangely behaving Hufflepuff girl. Seizing her opportunity to distract her from the disappointment she was feeling, Tatiana decided to offer her assistance. "I don't know what it is you were trying to do... there," she started, vaguely motioning to her stack of things on the table. "But, I was just studying up for Potions myself, and I could certainly help you if you need. I mean, if you'd like." She didn't want to assume or insinuate the girl needed her help, but she was obviously not succeeding at whatever her task was on her own.
