Achelous has never been one to venture outside of her common room during the weekend, in fact, she wouldn't be seen anywhere but the Great Hall or the Library. Today was the day she deemed it necessary to visit the Great Lake, it took hours of building up the courage to even head in its general direction, who would willingly go near a large body of water known for having a giant squid residing in its depths.

The symphony of thuds caused by her footsteps stops as she sits down on the sizable patch of grass in front of the tree. Her blonde hair in its normal wavy state as she gets lost in her thoughts, the sound of the wind whistling in her ears quickly stops, leaving her to bask in peaceful silence. She imagines a better version of herself, with beautiful wings and an equally beautiful crown. The version of herself that she envisions doesn't bend to the will of others out of fear of abandonment. She isn't a false idol. She's so wonderfully Achelous. She's the Achelous she could have had they not left Romania.

Achelous is aware that this is all a fantasy, a way for her to cope with the homesickness that is always there, ready to feast on her sadness and swallow her whole. Soon enough the silence was gone replaced by the sound of loud footfalls, Achelous, consumed by her curiosity, opens her eyes and sees a flash of red. The footfalls stop as the figure seems to be in deep thought.

The person appears to be a girl with long, Amber hair making it appear as a red halo, Achelous wouldn't be surprised that if she stood up, she'd appear to be a few inches taller than the girl. Achelous comes to the conclusion that this girl is interesting, interesting enough to hold a conversation with. Achelous slowly walks over to the girl engrossed in her thoughts, judging by her footfalls, Achelous concludes that it must have to do with the lake.

After a beat of silence, Achelous speaks, "Hello. Forgive me if I come off as nosy, but what are you about to do?" Achelous can only hope this girl is rude or shy, shy people aren't usually comfortable speaking with people they don't know, especially when they are as curious as Achelous. Acehlous in an attempt to come off as harmless rests all her weight on her right foot and crosses her arms, it would've come off better if she had a tree to lean on but beggars can't be choosers.

─────𝓐ccalia had been basking in the afterglow of her early morning run when she was approached, she had been up since the first light of dawn had kissed the lakes surface, painting ripples of gold across its mirrored expanse.
The brisk morning air had nipped at her cheeks, a contrast to the warmth that built within her muscles as she ran, painting them rosy from the chill and the heat combined.

Her grey hoodie had been zipped to about half-way, her house colored sports-top poking out from underneath, gifted to her after a streak of hard-earned achievements, she'd initially protested this gift, waving off her parents over-eager insistence, but she had to admit, the gear was comfortable and she felt very cool flashing her Gryffindor pride as she streaked along the earthen track, likening herself to the muggle hero the flash.

Finally she had reached her self-imposed finish line for this leg of the track, the grand train station in clear view, checking her watch she gave a small frown "One hour, ten minutes... not quite fast enough" she humphed, she had to get this leg down to under fifty before she'd even contemplate the next leg to the great railway bridge in the distance, jogging on the spot for a moment she glanced over her shoulder as her hood rustled.
Remi her pet lizard, stirred inside, her tiny claws scratching faintly against the fabric, it was her new pets first grand adventure and Accalia had to admit, she was proud of the little critter, but judging by her fidgeting it was time to head back.

"Alright Remi" she murmured, her voice soft and tender. "Let's head back and get you fed, no grubs from the woods though, you know what the kindly petshop owner said, don't give me any of that lip young lady!" she playfully taunted as Remi let out a sound similar to a *Krr ik ik ik*

And so it was that following her daily semi-marathon, she'd returned back to the starting point of her run and the sun had climbed higher, chasing away the frost of the early morning chill.
Breathing steadily she began preparing for her cool-down stretches, feet planted firmly on the ground, hands resting upon her waist, eyes out over the great lake when she heard a voice chime in behind her, curious and by the sound if it, coming from a cute girl, asking her what she was about to do.

Turning she gazed into the stunning blue sky, or... she corrected her mind, stunning blue eyes of a beautiful blonde girl, scanning her outfit to try and pick a house she admired the beautiful jeans and sweater combo, the sunflowers reminding her a little of the patch nearby her home.

Her thoughts were cut short however as clearly she was not the only one impressed by them, Remi, deciding to act upon seeing the flowers, leapt from her hood and landed upon the middle flower on the girls purple shirt, intercepting Accalia's near answer of the question.

"I am so sorry!" She apologized, her voice a mix of apology and restrained laughter as she started attempting to scoop her lizard back up, or attempting to as Remi latched her tiny claws into the cloth, she had to give a few gentle tugs to pry the lizard free from her newfound perch, and still Remi was sticking to it stubbornly, giving the flower a small lick in protest.
Accalia, not wishing to harm the lizard or distress the girls outfit much further than it was already, stopped, hoping that she'd get an opportunity to retrieve the little lizard as soon as Remi realized it was not a real flower.

"She... uh... she probably thinks its a real flower" Accalia scratched the back of her head as a sheepish grin broke across her face, letting her hand hover near Remi in case the lizard decided to surrender willingly.
"Give her a second, she is the worst combo of stubborn and dense, but she'll figure it out, in that way I guess she's a lot like her mama" she beamed, clearly not perturbed by the insult she just directed her own way.

Finally, tearing her gaze from the stubborn lizard, Accalia glanced back up to the blonde girl, her beautiful blue eyes transfixing her once again and in turn Accalia offered a wide, unapologetic smile.
"Sorry about that. As for your question, I just finished a run to the train tracks and back, was about to stretch, but contemplating which stretches would be best, then was gonna feed Remi, and..." she glanced around, almost as if trying to confirm that they were alone by the lake-edge.

"Well, if no teachers are patrolling, I was thinking about sneaking in a quick swim... I know, I know it's against the rules" she spoke the word rules as though they were truly just guidelines, things that she would break if she thought that they were hampering her ability to have fun, complete with a mandatory roll of the eyes, it was clear she'd likely been lectured on this in the past.

"But how else would I visit Squiddy? Plus swimming is an amazing exercise to cool off after a hard run, plus I wanna take Remi out to meet her, though... to be fair so far when I have tried, Remi has not been a great fan of the water, I would never let her actually in it, but I honestly can't blame her either, it's absolutely freezing compared to the desert of her natural landscape!" she laughed yet again, it was clear that this girl laughed as often as some others breathed it was a sound full of warmth and uncontrollable energy.

Then, as though suddenly recalling a strange thing called manners, she stuck out her hand and returned to a broad grin.
"Accalia Avalon, of the noble Avalon family, pleased to meet ya!" she remarks.

Accalia was not shy, nor was she intentionally rude, perhaps in the fact that she did not understand nor respect boundaries by some it may come across that way, but in general she was a beaming ray of confidence and joy, her gaze in particular was unwavering, radiating warmth that could fill an entire room.

Let it be said that Achelous isn't afraid of reptiles per say but she isn't fond of surprise attacks from small lizards. When the newly named Remi latched her small claws into her shirt, she didn't freak out, she would never do that, instead she froze. It took her a a moment to regain her bearings and listen to the owner, the red-haired girl's, words. Apparently, the small reptile attached to her shirt thinks the flower is real, for some reason those words made her slightly less worried, though she tried not to exasperatedly roll her eyes at the owners sheepish grin.

The red-haired girl, who is obviously a Gryffindor, seems to be the rambling type. She seems to think herself dense which made Achelous raise her eyebrow in what seemed to be a condescending manner but is genuine curiosity, but a small smile made its way onto her face as the girls refers to herself as Remi, the lizard's, 'Mama'. It's nice to see someone who cares deeply for her pet (reptile child).

Her once smiling face was replaced with something kin to both shocked and impressed, this girl is going to run to the train tracks and back, such an ambition should be recognized. Her next words sent an ice cold shiver down her spine, there's no doubt about this girl has to be a psychopath, who in their right mind would want to swim in a lake that hosts a very large squid. A psychopath, that's who.

The tone she used when she said the word rules worries her for some reason, apparently she wants to visit the Giant Squid, I'm sorry, 'Squiddy'. Achelous finds herself thinking that she and Remi would get along just fine, she's not a fan of swimming in large bodies of water either. The girl's change in demeanor was somehow from excited to bouncing off the walls as she introduced herself, "Accalia Avalon, of the Noble Avalon family, pleased to meet ya!" Without taking a moment to consider the cons of befriending Accalia, Achelous shook the girl's hand, "Achelous Gavia-Dalca, Romanian member of house Slytherin, it's a pleasure to meet you as well." Achelous doesn't know why she is choosing to indulge in an extended conversation with the girl but it feels right to her so she doesn't want to question it further.

Achelous contemplates asking if the girl's eyes are violet or blue before she remembers something, she looks down at her shirt, "How exactly did I forget that Remi is attached to my shirt?" She peered down at the reptile in amusement.

─────𝓐ccalia had to admit she was impressed. No squeal, no flail, not even a shriek when Remi leaped onto her, the blonde didn’t react at all the way others from Accalia's own dorn often did when they first met the cheeky little lizard, some still freaked out when Remi snuck about and Accalia had taken to keeping a very close eye on her lest she make trouble for her dorm-mates.
No, instead of the standard panic, there was just a moment of stillness, a quick glance down at the intruder, and then... Accalia thought it may have been acceptance, either that or she was distracted by their conversation, either way it was a rare reaction and Accalia was certainly impressed.

Her gaze lingered on the girl for a second longer than it probably should have, taking in the girl’s composed demeanor, It wasn’t just the lack of panic or frantic reaction to Rem; it was the way she seemed to hold herself, graceful and steady, as though a lizard clinging to her shirt was nothing more than a gentle breeze ruffling her hair, speaking of which Accalia noted how the sun seemed to catch Achelous' beautiful golden locks, forming a golden halo, those eyes, blue like her own that seemed to hold an infinite depth like the ocean, a cute face and for some reason it made Accalia’s chest tighten, she was temporarily in awe, though she wasn’t about to dwell on why, nah, dwelling was not really something she often went for, more an act now think later approach, she was temporarily stunned until Achelous introduced herself and stated that she'd forgotten Remi was there Accalia let out a relieved laugh and began to focus entirely on Remi, trying to push that brief bit of being awestruck out of the picture and added

“Yeah, she’s sneaky like that,” her voice bright, melodic, trying to change tact as quickly as she could to avoid any potential awkwardness.
“She’s got a habit of making herself at home wherever she pleases, doesn't tend to ask permission and will fit into the strangest of places, for example, yesterday, she crawled into my trainers while I was getting ready for a run, let’s just say that wasn’t my proudest moment, I don't shriek or jump about like some, but I swear I let out a shout and nearly touched the roof when I felt the cool scales on the sole of my foot at 5 in the morning.”

She reached out again, her fingers hovering near Remi, still stubbornly clinging to the sunflower design.
“Remi is indeed a little rascal,” she added, her lips curling into an easy grin, “but you’ve got to admit she’s cute, right?”
Then turning back to Remi as the lizard showed her stubborn side “That’s not a real flower, you know, Rem,” Accalia scolded gently, though her tone held no real bite. Her words were layered with affection, the kind you give to a troublesome yet utterly lovable companion or a loving parent to a misbehaving child.

As expected, Remi didn’t budge, Instead, she gave the fabric another determined lick, her tiny claws clutching the shirt as though it were the most important place in the world.
Accalia let out a sigh that turned into a soft laugh, her hand retreating slightly to hover just nearby, ready to intervene if necessary, there was no point in fighting Remi’s determination, stubbornness seemed to run firm in the veins of both of them.

“Sorry about this,” she said, looking back up at Achelous, her blue eyes catching the light, the contrast of shadow and light showing that it was in the way light caught her eyes that shifted how they varied from light blue to violet and though there was an apology on her lips, her smile stayed warm and genuine.
“She’s got a mind of her own, I swear! Though, if it’s any consolation, she doesn’t do this to just anyone. She’s a very good judge of character, and though the flowers probably helped, I’d say she likes you, Wanna be friends?” The words came out before she could think twice, laced with a joyful earnestness and honesty that could only have come from a snap moments phrasing, a slight blush tinging her cheeks almost immediately afterwards, sure she was blunt, but there were limits and like now her mouth ran before her mind crawled.

"err... I mean if you want to it would be cool to be friends" she added with a more nervous laugh.

“And seriously,” she continued trying to change direction of the conversation “if you’d rather not have a lizard accessory, I can try again to get her off, she’s persistent, but I promise she’s harmless. Just don’t let her trick you into giving her snacks, she’s a master at the ‘sad lizard eyes’ thing, but don’t fall for it she’s spoiled enough as it is.” a more natural laugh, it seemed that laughter and joy were very much Accalia's natural state and as she laughed this time the breeze off the lake rustled through her hair, picking up and carrying her laughter along with it,

It wasn’t just her words that held joy; it was in the way her voice danced with her own natural rhythm, unhurried and free, as though the moment itself was too sweet to rush.

Her attention drifted to the sunflower design that had so thoroughly captivated Remi. “Nice choice, by the way,” she said, nodding toward the shirt. “The design suits you. Remi clearly agrees, even if her way of showing it is... unconventional.”

She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, her grin turning softer. “But seriously, if she’s bothering you too much, let me know. I can bribe her with a bit of fruit to make her let go. It works every time when she gets like this.”

"I mean,” she added, quieter now, “I wouldn’t mind if she stayed a little longer. Gives me an excuse to stay too.” she practically whispered that last part to herself, not daring trust in the sanctity of her own mind to hide that thought away but also not wishing to make things weird in their conversation.
