All Knowledge Is... PV Prodigal Learner

Under no circumstances whatsoever will I ever allow you to practice this one in the house.

It was what his mother had said, upon his bringing it up, and only after one particularly unfortunate disobedience of his own did he realise just why this was: if not cast with caution, the Exploding Charm can be incredibly destructive. That's quite the given, most would think... Still, it was pretty much the only spell she wouldn't allow him. Usually she was more than willing to clear entire rooms with a flick of her wand whenever he showed any interest in Charms. But not this one, and because of just that (of course) it had become the one he longed the most to learn.

Until Scott could return to Hogwarts again, where there was no "expensive porcelain" or "work things" he could accidentally destroy every two feet, he'd instead read up on (or rather ask his parents about) the details.

Incantation: Bombarda. Gesture: triangle.

That's what he was repeating to himself, partly out loud, as he made his way down the steps from the Gryffindor tower and to the Charms classroom. He wasn't worried, but did have to admit he'd be disappointed if this didn't go well.

It's the Exploding Charm! Imagine all the things he could do with it.

Well, in all honesty, Scott couldn't imagine what he'd be able to do with it... still, all knowledge is precious wether or not it serves the slightest human use! And who doesn't like a boom?

Their Professor of Charms, Vernatis, had given some students permission to practice new spells in the classroom after hours. Scott considered this to be a perfect opportunity to try it out, much also because he didn't have a lot else to do this one night that he found himself entering the hall:

A number of other students, of different ages and houses, were scattered about the cleared room. Some were already making things fly, spin, dance or sing... and some were waiting to ask Professor Vernatis questions of their own. Scott only gave his professor a smile and a nod as he came in, so to have him aware of his presence in the class but not take up any of his time. Scott didn't think he had any questions this time...

Around the room were different equipments and materials that his fellow students had already taken it upon themselves to use. There stood dummies, there lay piles of junk- all things that wouldn't be missed should they face unfortunate fates before the practicing young witches and wizards. Scott felt this was probably more than for the best, especially considering what he'd come here to do...

Making his way to some equipment placed in a far off corner, Scott made sure to not stand too close to anyone else as he readied himself. He even, upon seeing a girl wander closer to where he was raising his wand, made a gesture for her to cover her ears or take some steps back. Only now did Scott start to feel a little uncertain (not that he realised why), and he gave Professor Vernatis an apologetic smile over his shoulders as he prayed he'd manage to do this in one go. He'd definitely understand the annoyance brought by two consecutive booms.

Turning to the pile of junk, the focus of which was an iron rod probably there to be challenged by just these more powerful spells, Scott raised his wand once again. Tracing his best triangle-shape with the tip of his wand in the air before him, he took a breath before exclaiming:

"Bombarda!"

Boom. Thank God. Though Scott knew the variation wasn't the most powerful there was of the Charm, and that his practice of it probably wasn't the best just yet- he could clearly see he'd succeeded in what he thought he would. The iron rod was cracked from the top to the middle, and bent about 100 degrees where it had landed against the wall behind the pile. Some old and torn books lay scattered around the floor more ripped and unreadable than they'd already been before.

Some people looked at him quite irritably now, but he didn't mind. He was done with the loud noise already and if it had startled them he apologised... not that he could stop beaming.
