Never Friends

@Lucian Allum @Mila Wildwood @Oonagh Brown
9th November
Friends had been hard to make at school. Mainly because she hadn't really tried. She'd signed up for and competed in Quidditch, and it was fun, no doubt. But she hadn't quite grasped the concept of friends. Sure she knew some people. The now Slytherin girl she'd met on the train and her crazy fellow housemate, but other than that she hadn't really come out of her shell. Probably because once a month she became something else. Something deadly. And she didn't particularly want to share that.
She could see the masses fleeing, shouting horrible things, saying she was a monster. The things her mother had whispered like cold bullets in the dark, shattering her defenses and leaving her helpless. Most days she tried to shrug off the malevolent memories, and today was just another of those times.
Since there were no classes today, Erlea's enthusiasm for being stuck inside was at an all time low and so she decided, quite early that morning, no matter how cold it might be, that today was a day for the outdoors. She'd gathered up her comics, 'The Adventures of Tin Tin', something she had been able to bribe one of her older sisters for, and set about for a day of snacks and reading. She hadn't long set herself up under one of the trees in the courtyard when a shadow caught her eye. Try as she might, she couldn't ignore it. A scowl settled on her face as she looked up to what might be intruding upon her space.

Never Friends
Note: Lucian keeps his half-giant nature a secret. He typically plays off his height as having good genetics and any rumors about him being half-giant he currently denies.
As much as Lucian would have preferred to spend the time of day alone from the trouble and spry eyes of other students, he couldn't help but take notice of someone he knew. Now one may be surprised to learn that Lucian has a friend at all as he wasn't always the best to get along with. Even further, he was very untrusting as he had to keep his giant blood a secret. To be hated or simply looked down upon for the blood and heritage he was given. As much as the boy wanted to embrace his culture, he could only worry of the words that would resonate back home and the problems that would arise. He couldn't bare to hear his mothers cries again, or potentially witness the berserk nature she holds. Tainted, corrupt being the words that others used within his family. Outside his family though, they were known to still be purebloods. The goal was of course to dilute the giantism out of the family, and as long as word didn't get out, then Lucian's branch of the Allum family wouldn't break or snap off.
This pureblood lie had its benefits and drawbacks. While Lucian couldn't interact much with other kids back home out of fear that growing suspicion of the family's secret could come to truth, there were still some family's he was capable of at least knowing. One unfortunate family being the Bevensworths. Lucian's father had introduced and even gone on a couple trips with another man who had the last name Bevensworth. It was on such trips that Lucian had met someone that really knew how to get his blood boiling. Too many occasions in which Lucian was bound to let loose his giant anger on the girl for her complete recklessness as he had put it. As much as he would like to avoid the girl, he didn't believe he could. The trouble she could cause, was on another scale in his opinion.
His steps were never quiet, he didn't take the energy or the time to hide his presence. Lucian would rarely seek interaction or conversation, but this one had to be made. As he towered over causing his shadow to block the sunlight from hitting the girls books, her name escaped from him, "Erlea." Short, simple, but somehow carrying a tone of tiresome and vexing at the same time. Lucian knew the day would come in which this girl would learn magic, and that wasn't exactly a good thing in his mind.
If only things had been different for the two of them in the past, originally they were friends or maybe they never were. Nature always has a calling for adventure, and Lucian seeked it. Yet you had to plan, you had to have caution, you needed to do everything you could to protect everyone. To Lucian, if you wanna have friends you have to be strong. Strong enough to protect them, strong enough to hold their secrets. Erlea could have been that friend, but their history says enough. Lucian saw recklessness and someone who needed more discipline in their life. It's possible he was being overdramatic and too high strung. Hiding his nervous and careful nature with that of a stern and angered temper. "Still stuck in your fantasies I see."
