The Gryffindor Table 2024-2025
As Hacue makes his way through the cheers of other Gryffindor students he searches for the right place to sit. Passing an empty seat here and there wishing to pick who he’s around very closely because they could be someone who he can learn much from. Hacue seeks any advantage he can and coming from a Pure-blood family he knows that you are repented by the company that you are with. Finally he finds what looks like the perfect seat both in close proximity to a turkey leg and in-between two knowledgeable looking students. As he take the empty seat he sits quietly and listens for gossip and secrets from the returning students hoping to hear of some useful information and he may be able to later use in class or around the castle grounds. He grabs his turkey leg and a few rolls and eats while listening in on conversations about people’s homes, their summer, pets ect.
As he devours his meal and washes it down with a butter beer he looks around and starts memorizing the professors. Ok, so he have headmaster Leer. He must be a pretty powerful wizard to be put in charge. Next he finds the head of his house, Galahad Browne. He is someone I’ll have to impress and put myself ahead of other first year students. Finally he searches for the defense against the dark arts professor. Professor Lécuyer is someone I need to learn as much as possible from. Hacue then return to focusing of those around him and enjoying one of his rolls.

"Your great aunt?" Meyra asked excitedly, "That means we are cousins! I mean..." She had to pause, because the truth was that Rodney was not her real father by blood, and she didn't want to lie to Raizel, "Step-cousin." She ended up saying. It always break her heart a little when she felt that she couldn't say that she was a "real" Lancaster, but she also knew that in her heart Rodney was and would always be her true father.
She didn't know anyone from the Voltrouz family, only her grandmother Karina. Of the others, she only heard her father speak vaguely. She knew some were also Auror's and they used to work together with Rodney but the circumstances never had brought her to meet them. She also knew that in that side of the family some people were still holding their beliefs on old purebloodist's traditions, some being very strict and adamant in protecting their ways. Remembering this, there was a little voice in the back of her head, warning her to be careful, as she didn't know Raizel that well to understand in which side of the family she was coming from. "It certainly is!" Meyra agreed with the girl sitting across from her, "But it's really nice to meet you Raizel!" She told her with a warm, friendly smile.
"To be honest, duelling also sounds pretty exciting." Mey admitted while putting some turkey and smashed potatoes on her plate, "But I fear that my knowledge on spells are yet not enough for me to be able to feel comfortable in a match" She explained to her "new" cousin, "So I prefer to stay with my broom and rely on another things besides spell casting you know?" She finished having a bit of her food. She hadn't realised until then, but she was starving after all the excitement of that day, she felt that she needed to gain more strength to be able to stay focused on her surroundings, still be able to appreciate the welcoming feast and later, to be able to recognise the corridors she would have to walk through until the Gryffindor Common Room.
That thought brought her to another matter. Her parents had told her that Hogwarts was a huge castle, with a lot of rooms and hidden passageways, she hoped to get to learn her way through the castle and hopefully not to find herself lost wandering around.
“Yes!” Meyra replied to Rai when she asked about her mother and the fact that she shared a mutual interest with her own, “She always loved to care for her garden and all her plants. So she decided to open her own tea shop where she could sell her herbs. Some have healing properties, some don't...she taught me a few things and I love helping her with that when she lets me too!" She told her in a friendly manner, trying to be kind and make a good impression on her newly met cousin.
"Potions making also sounds very interesting." Meyra stated with honesty, "Maybe I can tell you about tea and you can help me with potions!" She joked lightheartedly, "And thank you. To be honest I also always thought my name a little bit weird!" She confessed with a soft laugh.

❂《 ⌜ September 1, 2024 ▎ Sorting Ceremony ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔“Yeah, my great aunt.” A mysterious great aunt to be exact but not in a bad way, she supposed as it was more on the fact that she hasn't met her in person and only by name. She doesn't know what she looks like so if they happen to cross paths, well, she won't recognize her. The girl's next words made her raise an eyebrow, staring at her for a bit before looking at the plate before her. “Step cousins.” Raizel uttered. That's interesting. So, not exactly blood related. “That's interesting. Well, not like it matters if we're blood related or anything. What matters is how you see and treat them.” The older Gryffindor shrugged. That is not what's important after all. Heck, she has people who are blood related yet they don't feel like a family to her. They are more of strangers who are only good at hating and being purists.
“You seem like more of a family than some people I know.” It was kind of too quick for her to conclude that considering they had just met. She's not even sure on which side of the family she is on. The only one she has a bit of knowledge of in Meyra's family is her grandmother, Karina. Her dad assured her she's not like any of their purist relatives and that she's a good woman and that's it. She sure hopes that they aren't on that horrible side. Not to mention, Meyra doesn't know of her blood status and to some people, especially purebloods, they take that kind of thing seriously. Once they find out you're not one of them? That's when their true colors show. Half-blood, muggleborn, half-breeds, labels that somehow leave a bad taste in those purists' mouths. Disgusting really. Can't people co-exist without any conflict? Unfortunately, no. That is the reality of this world. Despite that dreadful thought, if you call it dreadful anyway, Raizel could still return the smile that Meyra has. “Yeah, same here.”
“It is exciting.” While she hasn't been duelling a lot lately compared to last years, she could still remember the adrenaline rush from it, the thrill of fighting using spells, the experience of going against a fellow witch or wizard that she'll need in the future as someone whose dream is to become an Auror. “I'm currently on a break from it though.” She admitted with a sad smile, remembering how it had a different effect on her due to her desperation to get better at it, to get stronger, to get a win, to prove that she could do it to those that dared to question her abilities. Not like that changed. She still feels that way despite the break.
Being far from it, she had grown more restless and the more she avoided it, the more it pulled her in. While broom racing can help with her growth due to it being a sport that requires you to cast a spell while riding a broom and dodging obstacles and if she were to be honest, you can learn a lot from there that could help with her future career but duelling just gives a different experience overall. Maybe that's why she still wants to be a part of it. Well, if she could do both, she would, that's how much effort she is willing to put into them just to get that desired result. “Say, if you want, I can teach you some spells.” She suggested it to Meyra. That is her forte, casting spells. While her confidence in her spellcasting had dwindled, she still trusts herself being able to show a couple of spells or two. She wasn't failing that much with them compared to last years’ and she can still learn some advance spells. “Maybe even try duelling.” A better way to gain experience is to try it out herself. She might've gone overboard with that one though, just ask the Hospital Wing staff about it.
“It's good to just not rely on spells.” This was something that she thought she would never understand but after some thinking, Evelynn Decipio was right. There will be times where you won't need spells to solve things or you might not even have the chance to do so. She would probably need to apologize to Miss Decipio at some point for being pissed off at her after she reprimanded them for casting spells even though it was because she wanted to stop her friend from causing trouble. Maybe she was just looking out for them that time and teaching them.
“Why not. Not the best potion maker but I can teach you what I know in exchange for knowledge about tea. Maybe mom would love the information.” This would be a great topic for them to talk about once she gets home and her dad would probably want to know if she had met Meyra too. “It’s a very nice name really.”

The overwhelming atmosphere of the great hall doubled the moment Azzure sat down on the Gryffindor table. A thousand things assaulted Azzure's sences at the same time. 50 different voices spoke amongst each other, their words and laughs blending into a mass of inaudible voices that gossiped and filled Azzure's mind. The candles that illuminated the room was suddenly too bright, its glow becoming glaring almost even painful.
Her head hurt like hell, and for what? All she did was make fun of the sorting hat a little. Maybe the reason why that stupid hat lived for so long is because it puts a curse on those who oppose it... Wait, no. If that were the case surely more people would have already died by now. I mean, based of off the little gossip she could pick out from the crowd of feasting lions, many don't like being in this house, as much as Azzure doesn't like the way her head hurts like she's about to die. Well whatever, its not like a house is gonna change anything about her. The whole "house segregation system" to her was on the same level as being branded like a farm animal, and personally, she isn't a very obedient cow.
Y'know thats it. She's had enough. Azzure quickly got up from the Gryffindor table, excusing herself as she bolted towards the closest bathroom. The soft lurecent glow of the bathroom light was a nice breather from the blinding glare of the candles. Azzure stood hunched over a sink. gripping the sides in order to steady herself and to stop the world from spinning. 'Maybe she really did need to sleep'
Sometimes, she trully wished she just weren't born with white hair is this is what she'd need to deal with on a daily basis. Azzure sighed, as she slowly let herself down onto the floor. She closed her eyes and leaned her head on the wall.
'Its a good thing no one else is in the bathroom... My would dad kill me if he saw the heir of his wealth on the bathroom floor battling motion sickness.' Azzure thought in her mind, chuckling slightly as she imagined the face of her dad, red with anger and barading her of how "Unpure-blood" of her to be writhing in pain on the floor.
By the time she had calmed down the headache enough to stand, it had been a good 20 minuets, and everyone was already climbing up the moving stares of to the dormitories. Fortunately enough for her, she had heard the voice of Galahad Browne shouting for everyone to keep up. I mean, not that it was hard, despite only hearing it once, his voice is... too recognisable for his own good. But whatever it may be, she had managed to run past the Badgers and Ravens to rejoin the mass of Lions as they trugged up until the 5th floor. And for the first time tonight, she thought that maybe. Just maybe, Gryffindor might actually work out for her.

The Gryffindor Table 2024-2025
Josh sat at the table with his journal reading the notes he had written the night before. He pondered how could I be a Gryffindor? My entire lineage have been either Slytherin or Ravenclaw! My parents will not be pleased, he looked worried as he thought this but he had always had a interest in the mixture if blood and to see if what his parents had told him was true. He muttered “this is a good thing”. He looked around at every person on the table. Who will I be roomies with he wondered. He sat there and stared at the great feast in-front of him, he was used to large feasts at home but nothing like this. Josh took a moment to indulge in the smells and noise around him. He was not used to this amount of noise and energy it was radiant, he had never felt this much joy being an only child. He stared at the teachers table at the top of the Great Hall and as he searched his teachers he could not help but wonder what in the name of magic made them take up the job of a teacher. He sat there pondering on this thought while tucking into the delicious feast.

Now that Brian had been sorted into his new house, he waddled over to the Gryffindor table, trying not to bump into other students as he remained awe-struck by the magnificence of the Great Hall. He looked about himself, trying to take in the sheer scale of the room.
The ceiling, a deep, starry night sky, stretched far above, enchanted to mirror the sky outside, its shifting clouds or twinkling stars creating an ever-changing, celestial display. The flicker of thousands of floating candles above cast a warm, golden light across the vast room, their gentle glow reflected in the polished, black-and-white checkered floor below. It all just felt so surreal, and the young Scouser couldn't quite believe that he had come all this way.
He strolled past the long wooden tables, lined with gleaming silver plates and goblets, neatly arranged in four crisp rows, each representing one of Hogwarts’ four houses. The House banners, rich with their respective colors—scarlet, gold, emerald, and blue—hung high from the walls, swaying slightly as if moved by an unseen breeze. Brian could hear the students, dressed in their black robes, chatting excitedly, their voices blending with the laughter and clatter of cutlery. The sound of silverware on plates, punctuated by bursts of mirth, created a rhythm that pulsed through the room.
Then, finally, he discovered a free spot on one of the two sturdy oak benches that lined the Gryffindor table. "Can I sit 'ere?" he asked one of the young mages, hoping to sit besides them. Luckily for Brian, he was swiftly welcomed by his fellow Gryffindors, and started having a chat with some of the other students at his table. He listened to stories of how some of their family members had been sorted into Gryffindor as well, and how they were so very ecstatic to finally take up that mantle now.
Gaffey couldn't yet believe what had overcome him. Sure, it had been nice to be part of something bigger than himself, to join one of these so-called houses, but he didn't feel as though anything about him had changed. To Brian, these four long tables didn't mean as much as some students supposed they did. He was no different from any other wizard sat at any other table, and the words of some old pointed hat wouldn't change that, at least that's what he thought to himself.
Still, he didn't know how to feel about the fact that so many of his peers seemed so attached to whatever house they were sorted into, and feared that, for whatever reason, he was caught outside whatever it was that compelled the other first-years to be so enamoured with the animals and colours on their school badges.
He turned his eyes back towards the end of the hall, facing the Head Table and watching as other pupils were sorted into their houses. As the shock and awe of his entry into the Great Hall wavered, and he increasingly felt more and more as though a large part of life here was as absurd as it was magical, he tried to motivate himself to at least pretend to find the ceremony as engaging as the others did.

Gryffindor? Of all the houses, Gryffindor? He'd of taken Ravenclaw, but Gryffindor? Edwin was horrified, distraught even, at his placing. Generations and generations of tradition tarnished in an instance, just by the decision of some shoddy, old hat. He hadn't even been some drawn out hat stall, the hat had sat on his head for a couple of seconds, if that, before declaring him a Gryffindor. Bravery, determination, courage? These were not adjectives of Edwin Westbridge. How that blasted hat had came to that conclusion Edwin was best suited amongst those who envision themselves as heroes, would forever remain a mystery to the Westbridge.
Why me? The newly sorted Gryffindor mused to himself in despair as he rose from the stool, moving to walk off towards the Slytherin table, only to catch himself after a few steps. He let out a dramatic sigh, before begrudgingly dragging himself over towards the Gryffindor table to meet his housemates. I will never hear the end of this. He at least wanted to think that was the case, but honestly, knowing his parents, he was incapable of doing wrong, so likely nothing would ever be said of his house, which was, at the bare minimum, some what of a comfort.
The walk to the Gryffindor table felt like the longest trek of his entire life, passing by two tables that he'd much rather have been his destination. The walk gave him time to cast his gaze about the room, taking in the enchantment across the ceiling. He'd heard stories of it, of course, from his brothers and parents, but the stories hardly did it justice. Both as an incredible display of magic, and a truly beautiful scene that decorated the ceiling.
It certainly felt hard to feel at home amongst his new house mates as he passed down them, many of their faces joyous at having been placed in Gryffindor, a house that is so widely respected. Edwins face did not reflect this same joy, baring no discernible expression as he continued to walk down further along the benches, looking out for a free gap that he could slide himself into. Eventually, he spotted a small spot, across from a platinum haired boy, who also looked to be a first year. The prospect of meeting his housemates did not excite Edwin, but it was something that he would force himself to do.
"Hello there." He gave a small, forced smile to the boy opposite him as he lowered himself down onto the bench. "Edwin Westbridge." He extended a hand across the table, his voice laced with pride as he spoke his surname, something very telling of his upbringing, should anyone pick it up.

As the young Scouser looked at the Head Table, trying to amuse himself by watching as kids like him were sorted into one of Hogwarts' four houses, it occured to him that the ceremony was slowly coming to an end. They had started with Aarons and Arnolds, moved to Gaffey and Goodman, and had finally arrived at Wilson and, what was that name, 'Waterbridge'?
Brian clearly wasn't paying close attention, because the sorting hat must have thought that Waterbridge, Wetbirch, Wellhurst, or whatever his name was must have had enough in common with Brian to be sorted into the same house. "Must be the hair." he thought as he joined his table in covering the pupil in a barrage of applause. He couldn't help but wonder why they were even applauding the students in the first place - Had they done anything particularly admirable? He started to wonder why the school even introduced this senseless factionalism, and questioned whether it might cause trouble down the line, when suddenly:
"Hello there."
Brian had seemingly got lost in his thoughts when the voice boomed through his mind. He looked up, and saw the same lad that had just been sorted into Gryffindor standing opposite him. He introduced himself, to which Brian replied, shaking his hand as he did:
"I'm Brian, nice meetin' you."
His introduction had been a lot more relaxed and casual than Edwin's had been. Omitting his surname was a great social faux pas, sure, and 'nice meetin' you' was most presumptious and showed that he may have lacked etiquette, but it must have been more genuine and natural than the other boy's fake smile and stiff attachment to social conventions. By now, Brian had seen more fancy lads today than he had in the last three months. Hogwarts, with its luxurious, ancient castle, seemed more and more like a boarding school that the upper classes sent their children off to. It felt as though he'd won a scholarship to a school with wonderful credentials, but terribly stuck-up posh students who would always hold people like Brian in contempt, merely for the status of their blood or the social situation in which they were brought up.
Either way, that was only a presumption, and though Brian was getting a bit tired at these stereotypes revealing themselves to be true, he wouldn't discount this posh-looking lad on a presumption alone. Gaffey might not have been well-educated or particularly smart, neither was he taught in etiquette, but he prided himself on his open mind and repeated optimism, regardless of what people decided to throw at him.
Back to Edwin. Edwin was a funny name, Brian thought to himself. It occurred to him that he'd never met anyone with that name before. After pondering it for another second, he thought it did ring a bell. Then, just like that, he'd got it.
--"Edwin - like Van der Sar?" he asked, a clear enthusiasm in his voice. Brian was exceptionally new to the wizarding world, and it dawned on him that muggle football was about as famous here as quidditch was in the muggle world. Just as he'd asked, he realised that it would have been a fairly silly question, one that the boy wouldn't have known the answer to. Before Edwin could say anything, Brian seized the word again, saying.
--"Actually, nevermind tha'. Sorry."
As Brian spoke, he highlighted the 'C' in 'actually' with his thick, throaty Scouse accent, instantly revealing him to be a northerner. His tone conveyed some hints of sadness at the fact that he probably wouldn't be able to chat to anybody about footy out here. He thought he must've looked like a right idiot in front of Edwin, and, unwilling to bask in an awkward silence where he'd have to think about the question, he chose to ask about something different.
--"Some ceremony, don't ye think?"
Brian let out a short chuckle alongside his question, implying that he found it all a bit strange and comical. He couldn't remember clearly, but he thought he caught some glimpses of Westbridge looking rather displeased at the fact that he'd been put into Gryffindor House. Before Edwin had come along, Brian felt surrounded by people who were overjoyed at their result, and it made him wonder whether mass hysteria had set in now that everyone worshipped the word of a talking hat. Maybe Edwin and himself, different as they may have been, could at least see eye-to-eye on that.

Edwin momentarily tightened his grasp as the two boys shook hands, ensuring that his shake was firm, and proper, before moving his hand to rest idly atop the table in front of him. "Likewise, pleased to meet you." He returned the other boys greeting, glancing momentarily down the table towards where the teachers were sat, allowing for a moments silence to hang between the two boys. Having never strayed far from London, and on the occasion the had, it was to meet other pure bloods who often carried similar accents to his own, the Scouse accent was entirely unfamiliar to Edwin. Whilst it was easy enough to understand, it had stumped him momentarily. Though, he had expected to meet people from all around the country, so this was just his first exposure to that.
"V." was all he managed to get off, before Brian spoke once more. van der Sar? He echoed the words within his own head, not having had the chance to query it aloud. Likely some German, or perhaps Dutch, wizarding family. He eventually settled on, reasoning that he'd of recognised the surname, had it been of British origin. As for why Brian had attempted to link him with some German or Dutch family, that remained a mystery for Edwin, and he still hadn't the chance to query it, but it wasn't hugely important.
"Oh, okay." His brows furrowed at the scousers hurried apology, as well as the sad undertone to the words. Had Edwin said something to bother Brian, somehow? He hadn't a clue, leaving Edwin looking mildly perplexed at the boys tone, as well as the accents harsher sounds being displayed. Edwin opened his mouth, as if he was about to ask something, but simply shook his head, opting not to query about where the boys accent came from.
"Yeah, it's massive." He nodded at Brians words, any confusion slipping from his expression within an instance. Instead, he looked, perhaps for the first time since his sorting, almost excited by the conversation. "My parents and brothers have been telling me how grand this place is, but it doesn't even nearly do it justice.. I mean, just look." Once more, his gaze was cast around the room, passing slowly over the enchanted ceiling with a look of awe. "Pretty big deal too, you're supposed to be able to tell a lot about someone by their house.." And with those words, his frown returned, letting out a dramatic sigh.
"Can't say I'm entirely sure it still works though." He looked upwards towards the red banners hung above their table with a scowl. "But what about you?" He asked. "How are you feeling now that you've got your house?" The hat shouldn't of made too many mistakes, there was no reason for him to force his moon on the others, and so once more, that thin, forced smile appeared on his face.

Brian was still a tad embarrassed by his screw-up, but felt relieved when he found out that the other boy had been gracious enough to overlook it. He quietly listened when Westbridge shared stories about how his family had told him about the sheer majesty of Hogwarts' Great Hall.![]()

--"Looks massive now, but I 'spose we'll be tired of this old 'all by the end of th' year." he answered, his eyes wandering from candle to candle, his subconscious still occupied by the idea that there could be hot wax dripping from those candles at any time, injuring the pupils below. He quietly wondered how long it would take for him to get used to everyday magic in the same way that other students had supposedly got used to it, and couldn't help but think it'd take him an awful long time.
"Pretty big deal too, you're supposed to be able to tell a lot about someone by their house.."
"Did tha' antwacky hat tell ye that?" Brian responded with a chuckle. He clearly wasn't very convinced by the apparent use of the ritual. Even if students could be sorted into four different houses based on their fundamentally different traits, didn't you need a team composed of people of all talents and traits to thrive? He shelved those thoughts as he continued to listen to Edwin, trying to get a feel for the boy's background by listening closely to his accent. Brian could very clearly tell that it was southern, but he couldn't make out what city the boy was from, his attention suffering ever-so-slightly from the distractive sorting ceremony and the conversations that were going on in the background.
--"Can't say I'm entirely sure it still works though."
"Couldn't imagine it ever did." the Scouser thought to himself, as he was momentarily distracted by thunderous applause ringing out from one of the other tables. The hat had made another less-than-half-a-minute decision, putting another boy his age in Slytherin house, an action that would go on to define much of said boy's life for the next seven years. His thoughts were interrupted again, this time by the boy on the other side of the table.
--"But what about you? - How are you feeling now that you've got your house?"
--"Can I be 'onest with you?" Gaffey asked, leaning over the table a tad bit and lowering his tone when he did. I feel about the same as I did out on that dark lake. Nothin's changed. Don't understand why everyone's makin' such a big deal about these 'ouses, me."
While it is true that Brian had been a little unnerved when he was sorted into his new house, he had attributed all of that to the collective anxiousness among the first-years as a group, as well as the generally overwhelming feeling that was his baptism-by-fire introduction to the wizarding world. Now that he had got his bearings, it was a bit easier for him to think more plainly about what had happened. Suffice to say, he had yet to be completely convinced of the fact that sorting students into four seemingly arbitrary houses had any effect at all. The fact that he sat opposite someone who had doubts about the sorting hat of his own emboldened him as well, and certainly made him feel less alienated in his beliefs.
"Anyway. I'm sick of all this talk about 'ouses. Seems like it's th' only thing anyone can talk about." Brian groaned. "Where'd you say you were from again, Edwin?" he'd had an easier time remembering this lad's name on account of his goalkeeping namesake, which wasn't exactly ordinary: Brian was the kind of kid to forget somebody's name a second after they'd heard it.
