Oliver honestly never truly understood birthday parties. What all the fuss was, 'congratulations!! You haven't died yet!' Parties were not something Oliver was very fond of, be it balls, or well- Birthday parties. Back at home, for his Birthday his parents would let him pick some things out from Hogsmeade, a few gifts for himself. Then his mother would make a dinner full of vegetarian dishes. Only his favorites of course. There was no big celebration, no larger then life guest list. It was just his family, celebrating him.

He should have known that Aaron would pull something this year. His first birthday away from home, and his first birthday at Hogwarts. Oliver had received an invitation, that was a quite demanding request from his older brother to go to the class room on the second floor. For a 'surprise' Just a mere three days after his actual birthday, that had been on the thirty first. Now, it was November, he'd been twelve for three whole days.

It was no different then being eleven.

Aaron plotted something he just knew it, And Oliver was very tempted to just downright ignore it. To do whatever he wanted that day, however. He knew Aaron would whine on and on to him about it. 'why didn't you come?' he would say, 'it was so boring without you!' and honestly, that might just have been worse then outright going.

So, the first year had no real choice then to go. He had climbed up the seemingly thousands of stairs to get to the second floor from the basement. "This better be nothing Aaron.. or so help me.." He was muttering under his breath as he neared closer to the second floor. His cat, Otis, was quick on his heals. Meowing to be picked up, the drama king he was. Oliver did so, holding him in his arms. The cat had been a surprise gift from Aaron when he'd done his shopping for the year. A 'welcome to Hogwarts gift' he called it.

Otis was proving to be Oliver's main and almost only friend, the one thing in the castle that didn't care about his house, or personality, or anything of that sorts. The only other person seamed to be Novalie Moon, the Ravenclaw Oliver was near convinced didn't have any thoughts going on in her brain. Unlike Novalie, Otis didn't talk for hours upon hours. So Oliver greatly preferred the cat's company.

It didn't take much longer after he picked him up that Oliver reached the door to the class room Aaron described. God, his brother had taped a note to it to, 'Here for Oliver' That was vague. He was sure there were a lot of Oliver's at the school, This one shook his head and opened the door. "Damnit Aaron!" He said when he saw the room's decor. Stacked to the brim with Birthday decorations, a small banner reading 'Happy Birthday Oliver!' Hung from the celling. "I told you I didn't want a party!"

To one side of the room there was a table with a punch bowl, and cupcakes. Great, now he needed to eat Aarons sub par baking to? "I know that," Arron replied as Oliver set Otis down to go investigate the room. "Clearly, I also ignored that fact." Oliver walked further into the room, there was a bit of seating, and oh dear god save him. An empty table. He looked at Aaron, eyes asking the question that didn't come out of his mouth. "Yes, I did invite people."

He could have died right there on the spot. How could Arron do this to him? Bringing people together to cerebrate him? And who did he invite? "The only two people I can tolerate in the school are in this room." It was of course, Aaron and Otis. Everyone else was proving to be majorly annoying. Or infuriating. Or both. This party was doomed. "Why would you invite people?" He asked as he slumped into one of the chairs in the room. Crossing his arms.

"Because you need friends Ollie." Aaron responded with a shake of his head, Oliver just crossed his arms and huffed. With a roll of his eyes. "They should be here any second now to," Great, just great. Aaron started to watch the door with great interest, where Oliver called Otis up to his lap. Were the cat started to rub up on Oliver, begging for attention. That Oliver happily gave, un crossing his arms to pet him down his back.

This thread serves as Oliver's birthday thread. He turned twelve on the thirty first of October. he would not have invited you. Keep that in mind, I would ask that you don't mention Oliver having told you about his birthday or the party. That doing was all Aaron. He would have seen Oliver and your character hanging out somewhere or just guessed that they hung out. Leaving this part up to you.
The letter they would have gotten is as follows- (or somthing like this )

Sunday's had never been a favourite of Meiyu's, it had always reminded her of the tediously formal Sunday brunch her family had hosted before preparing for the upcoming week ahead. This Sunday had been no different, the lioness had developed a habit of strolling through the castle any opportunity she had. The familiar silence of the castle’s hallways during a melancholy Sunday had drawn Meiyu up to the second floor, where she hoped to escape the chattering of her fellow lions, perhaps catching a moment of solitude that she had grown to enjoy during her time at Hogwarts — a contrast to its usual bustling atmosphere. She was halfway down the corridor when she spotted something unusual: a handwritten note taped to the door of an empty classroom. The note read, “Here for Oliver.”

Intrigued by the ominous note, Meiyu stopped abruptly in her tracks which led her to nowhere in particular, her brow furrowing. She had heard a few whispers about a Slytherin first year named Oliver who, like her, had a birthday on the 31st. Though unfamiliar with the boy, that small detail alone was enough to pique her interest, perhaps this Sunday would prove itself to be a lot more stimulating. Without further contemplation, her hand betraying her by pushing the door open, she stepped inside the classroom, evidently intruding the not-so-private event.

It took her a brief moment to take everything in; the poorly decorated room with a banner which hung from the ceiling decorated banner that hung from the ceiling was almost laughable. Meiyu had noticed two boys and a black-and-white cat in the room, one slouched in a chair with a very unimpressed expression, looked like he wanted nothing more than to disappear into the floor, presuming the young boy was Oliver, it did not require Aodhan's self-proclaimed detective skills to figure that out.

The lioness took a step further inside, her gaze lingering on who she assumed to be Oliver, who looked up from his lap, where he was petting his cat with a mix of disdain and resignation. She raised an eyebrow at him, her etiquette lessons flying out of the window has her own words betrayed her, mumbling hastily “This is your party?” Meiyu’s lips twitched with a small, wry smile. “And here I was, thinking you were the only Slytherin brave enough to share my birthday,” she continued, her tone dry and blunt, unable to hide her displeasure in the event she had the misfortune of stumbling upon. She crossed her arms, glancing around at the sparse decorations before returning her attention to Oliver. “But I didn’t imagine…this.” Her eyes darting to the other boy in the room and a cat? Clearly this snake was not a rival in her mind, his only attendee being a feline.

Novalie was thrilled!
Today was the super-duper-secret birthday party for her best friend Ollie! From the moment his older brother Aaron handed her the invitation, she almost hadn’t been able to think about anything else. She’d been invited to a real birthday party!
At home, birthdays were nice, a few heartfelt gestures that she loved but they always felt small compared to the stories her classmates told at school - big parties with lots of friends, music, games, food, and gifts. For her birthdays, her mom usually brought a store-bought cake for her to blow out the candles, then she’d share it with her brothers and head outside to play until dusk, her friends letting her choose the games as their gift. Sometimes, she’d get hand-drawn cards or unique little rocks her friends found just for her. Novalie adored those moments, but she was thrilled to experience a different kind of celebration for once.

Bounding down the stairs from the Ravenclaw tower, the redhead felt her excitement building. She was dressed in her older brother’s hand-me-down clothes, giving her a tomboyish look with her oversized sweater and loose trousers. Her hair, pulled up in a high ponytail, swished side to side as she hurried down the steps.
Arriving on the second floor, Novalie scanned the long hall for the classroom where the party was happening. After passing several doors, she noticed a small scrap of paper taped to one:
'Here for Oliver'

Novalie’s eyes lit up. She grinned and, without missing a beat, slammed the door open!
“Woaaaah!”, the girl gasped, taking in the scene.
The classroom was decorated! There was even a banner reading 'Happy Birthday Oliver!' above and the room was filled with festive touches that felt magical to her. Her gaze darted around, admiring every detail, until she spotted the birthday boy.

“Ollie!”, with a bright smile, she dashed over and wrapped her best friend in a warm hug, “Happy birthday and uh- be healthy and smart forever!”
Novalie beamed, her voice full of joy. She held him tight, only pulling back after a few seconds to look at him, her eyes sparkling quite literally - her Metamorphmagus ability was triggered by her excitement.
“You forgot to tell me it was your birthday!”, she said, not sounding accusing at all, “Thank god Aaron remembered! How old are you now? Twelve, right? That’s so cool! You already look way more mature than you did at the Halloween party! Oh, and -”
Finally releasing him, Novalie held up a small package she’d been clutching. It was messily wrapped, hinting at something personal inside.
“I noticed you like red, so… it should be to your taste!”

If Ollie decided to unwrap it, he’d find a pair of red earmuffs from Dogweed & Deathcap, cozy and fluffy - perfect for Herbology, which she knew he enjoyed, and for the upcoming winter. It wasn’t much, but she’d saved every Knut she could to buy it, even haggling with the shopkeeper for a discount (or rather, annoy him until he was defeated). The Ravenclaw would have loved to give him something fancier, something that fit his princely look, but her pocket money wouldn’t stretch that far. These earmuffs, though, were the best she could manage and she really hoped he’d like them.

While handing it over to him, Novalie looked around the room once again, noticing only now two more people - Aaron, who had given her the invitation, and a dark-haired girl she didn’t recognize. They probably didn’t share any classes.
Without minding to introduce herself or at least greet them (she didn't really think about it at that moment and social norms weren't her strength), Novalie looked back at the boy with a wide smile,
“Wow, you must be so popular to have people showing up early for your party! I knew you had, like, loads of friends!”

•••••••• ••••••••• 𝔗 he thought of attending an impromptu birthday bash never quite managed to cross the vast, seemingly cavernous fissure in Sanguinius's mind, not that he had truly intended to show up for the younger brother of one of his late brother's companions for that said evening or any other occasion that would be following thereafter. It was a tempting offer for the boy to turn away the older Armani, who had somehow sniffed out his exact whereabouts, tracking him like a hound whose arse was on fire, and had given him quite the unnecessary annoyance with his sudden appraisal for the his headcount at the party. Why should he spend even a moment of his time on some pointless social gathering for someone he barely knew? But, of course, the problem wasn't that - it was Aaron. Him and the ridiculous familial affection he held for his younger brother. At some point, the seventh year backed him into a metaphorical corner that gave him no leeway for a sliver way out, leaving him with the only options of going to the party on his own accord or let Aaron drag him there kicking and screaming - both were equally unappealing, but the latter seemed far more invasive. Suffice to say, Sanguinius had begrudgingly chosen the former.

The lesser of the two evils, and that alone made his blood boil, churning with a slow, searing ire that felt as though it might erupt at any moment.

Despite his initial thoughts, Sanguinius stood outside of the classroom door - with a neatly wrapped present in his hands, as per unspoken celebratory custom and to uphold whatever image of himself he still felt obligated to maintain. For reasons he could not begin to comprehend, the need to follow through on this battlefield of scattered blades and shrapnel had been entombed into him over time, like some meddling little parasite he could not shake - because for all the simmering rage that had been toiling away at his bones, he was taught more to hide his claws than bare his teeth.

He scoffed.

What a hypocrite he was, he had been doing more than the opposite this whole time.

Sanguinius did not need to swing the door open, someone else had been more than eager to keep it gaping wide with their arrival, as if the very act of stepping through the threshold had been some kind of declaration. A frown made itself known on his face once he deduced it had been the Metamorphmagus across the room; he didn't have to see the face behind the gesture to know it had been her - if the burnished, scarlet coils pulled into a ponytail, strands escaping like dry hay tumbling from a half-filled sack, weren’t enough of a clue-factor, then the crackling, almost charring energy that seemed to pulse around her in the air definitely was. It was hard to forget the impression that she had left on him on the boat, there was only one person in the castle that he knew radiated that kind of restlessness in their very essence.

Aside from a certain lioness, of course.

“ Xiang. ” Sanguinius greeted her with the sort of civil neutrality he reserved for anyone he had no particular qualms against. In fact, she was someone he related to in ways that were not entirely unpleasant - though, he wouldn't call them too comfortable with each other either. Their brief but memorable encounter in the courtyard had given the boy a new perspective to the school, broadening his not-so-surprising understanding of the intricate hierarchy that lurked right below the surface.

Like any other game in the hunts he would take part in, it was dying to be torn apart.

“ I’ll admit, I didn’t expect to find you here, especially given the charming company, ” He noted her expression, raising an amused eyebrow at the faint sourness he could detect in the other Gryffindor's demeanor. His abalone-flecked eyes lazily scanned the room out of instinct, the lack of attendees meant that he was one of the early ones who had shown up - he would need to deliver the damned gift he had smuggled from Hogsmeade soon before his swift exit would be deemed socially unacceptable. " Nor was I aware that you had any particular connection to the Armani's. Didn't realize you enjoyed friendly-fire. Have you known them for long, or are you just here for the free cake? ”

“ Not that I’d blame you, " Sanguinius gave a little chuckle, mostly to himself. The poorly stocked refreshments, which was, in retrospect, a single bowl that contained only a blend of tropical goods, and the absence of a food spread was not something that exactly screamed out a ‘ great, fulfilling time ’ to him, but perhaps, that was just his admittedly jaded perspective. He gave points to Aaron for trying, deducting some for his past relation with Andronikos. " The Armanis are practically famous for their wide arrangements of... baked treats and hosting skills. ”

" Now, where was I? Ah, yes, " He continued, blinking to steady his mind from the sudden wave of dizziness that had crept up on him mid-conversation, his fingers absently smoothing the crinkled edges of the present in his grasp. The motion was almost absent, automatic at most, a futile attempt to ground himself, as if the simple act of flattening the paper could erase the rancor that resonated in his veins. " You, chimaera girl. Not that I have any idea what your true name is, nonetheless, still, ' Chimaera ' has a certain ring to it rather than ' Vanilla ice ', don't you think? "

" Like the beast from the mythologies. A creature born of many parts, always shifting, unpredictability embedded into its nature. Very fitting. It must be a delight to embody that. How do you do it so flawlessly? "

Sanguinius tilted his head just the slightest bit, the motion slow and deliberate, like the quiet turn of a clock's hand. He remained fixed, unmoving, as though he was waiting for some subtle signal in the stretched pause, some momentary twitch or flutter that would break the stillness. His gaze finally shifted away from Novalie, but only by a fraction.

"Well, off for me to acknowledge the birthday boy. And to pretend that this is worth the participation." He dryly said, resisting the urge to roll his own eyes.

This would not be the first party Aodhan has ever crashed. Perhaps the third, because the first two times ended up incredibly boring. No one gave him proper attention in both cases, and if that was going to happen, then was the point of crashing to begin with?

He decided to give this another shot out of curiosity—new school, new people, and therefore a different ending route to explore. But perhaps calling it a crash was inaccurate, since he'd been invited in... a rather strange way. "Please come, he needs friends." So what, was Aodhan not really supposed to come yet got asked to come anyway? He'd never even heard of an Oliver, or maybe he did but forgot the name in passing, as he usually seemed to.

Regardless, a party was a party. An event that was filled with music, laughter, and cake. How could he possibly fight off the temptation of joining? He'd even pretend to know this Oliver character if push came to shove, at least until he got his hands on a slice of cake. Maybe he could even throw a special nickname in there to really sell the whole friend act.

Thankfully, finding the correct spot was easy, considering the lone note of "Here for Oliver" being attached to the door. After toying with the last minute "gift" in his pocket and running a hand through his freshly dyed hair, the youth made his way into the room. He couldn't help the excitement that sparked up in his chest, tiny but no doubt bound to grow as time went on.

"The main attraction is here! Make way, make way," he declared with not a hint of shame, fully showing off a toothy smile in the process. His eyes darted around the space as he walked, soaking in the decorations and spotting the available treats and refreshments, which were slowly awakening his sweet tooth. Finally, his gaze landed on the small circle of people actually attending the party, which only increased the joy already evident on his face.

"Yo, what's all this? Meiyu, Vanilla Ice, and Waffles? Liv's got some good taste in guests," he remarked, staying true to his earlier decision of using a nickname for someone he'd never met. Speaking of, he turned to the birthday boy and outright threw his gift in the other's direction, not even sparing a warning of any kind. "You're welcome, by the way! You now owe me your life's savings, which cannot be paid off by organ donation. I'm not allowed to accept those—anymore."

Who would have guessed that the first person to arrive would be someone Oliver didn't know. Some girl, He gave her a look, up and down. Sizing her up. First impressions- Did not like. She seamed to have a big ego. "I will not be apologizing for being born the day I was." He was slowly starting to get more ok with people calling him 'Slytherin' though he still despised his house, it was getting pointless to try and correct people on it. Just from sitting down Oliver could tell she was taller then him.

He did not like her. He glared at Aaron. "Who is this? Did you just invite any random you found in the halls?" His question, he hoped, would rial the girls feathers, if she was Ravenclaw. Based on the attitude, he would have said Slytherin. Yet, he hadn't seen her in the common room. Oliver would guess that she was his year, at most a second year. Unlikely. Her house was a mystery. He refused to think Gryffindor. She would not taint his favorite house even more. The amount of idiots already there was to much. And, No. Not Hufflepuff. She was far to bold for that house of wimps.

Aaron shrugged, great. Just. Great. He didn't know. So this girl was just some random from the halls. They were at Hogwarts, could there not have been at least a spell to prevent these things? Some type of charm Aaron could have placed on the door, only allowing a set group in the room? He kept a glare on his brother, and every so often shot it back at the mystery girl. Who knew who she could be. If he was foolish enough he may think her to be some spy.

Thankfully he was not. She must, he decided, have simply been curious. "Now; I would appreciate if you lef-" The words were left cut off as someone he did at least know now ran in. Slamming open the door, Novalie. And of course this 'Ollie' nonsense. And; merlin save him. A hug?! Healthy and smart forever? He was very tense from the hug, it being unexpected and rather unwelcome to. He slightly groaned, in, embarrassment(?). This girl was very touchy, not the couldn't handle a dark joke kind, she was actually touchy. Hugging, shoulder pats, and just about everything in between.

"I did not forget, I simply did not want to." He told her, It was imposable for him to look more mature. It'd been simply four-ish rough day. Finally, after what felt like agonizing hours. He was released from the embarrassment trap. Was she trying to humiliate him in front of his brother? A gift was hastily given to him, he grabbed it, and well. It wasn't super expected. He wasn't sure why. He didn't know she cared enough.

And- she knew he liked herbology? How? With how much she talked, Oliver honestly wasn't sure that she got anything that he liked. He gently opened up the gift, unfolding the messy wrapping. At the sight of the gift he smiled, and shook his head. It was far from his normal taste. Yes, it was red. A bright red if he was being honest with himself. Not his normal style at all. Oliver would not have bought them for himself, that was for sure. A pair of earmuffs. A pair of red earmuffs.

His fingers ran over the 'fluff' of it. "Noavlie..." He said not taking his eyes of the gift just yet. He didn't really tell people, didn't really need to. He loved gifts. Giving them, and receiving them. A little reminder that you cared, and were cared for. "... I-" God this girl was very hard to hate, still was annoying though. "Thank you. This, it's very thoughtful." Otis sniffed them from his position in his lap, and meowed in approval. Oliver gave him some pets to.

He set the gift on the empty table next to him, and shook his head. Leaving that moment behind him. After all, he had an imaged to upkeep. Couldn't be caught getting all sentimental like that. He cleared his throat at Novalie's out right wrong declaration. "Not true, I have no clue who that girl is." He said to her, nodding in the direction of the girl (Meiyu). He did not have 'loads of friends'. There were very few people he considered as a friend, Novalie- He would need to spend some time thinking on it. But he did not think of her as a friend.

And another guest he didn't know, but recognized. Sanguinius Demarest. His brother had been 'friends' with his brother. And this kid, he also seamed like an Ass. He addressed the other girl in the room, 'Xiang'. At least a hint at her name, Oliver felt like that was closer to her last name. He was not liking this kid a whole lot either. Spewing on and on about thing Oliver couldn't tell if they were insults or complements. 'Free cake', 'charming company'. Oliver rolled his eyes at the baking comment.

Again, was that a complement? or was it an insult? Whatever it was, Oliver did not like. "He's not getting a cupcake." He whispered under his breath. Yet, also not trying to hide it from the other people in the room. Why was he invited? Oliver had not said one word to him, Oliver, if he had to guess. Would say Aaron wanted Ollie and Sanguinius to 'kick' it like Arron and Andronikos had back when. Yet again, First impressions mattered. And they mattered a lot.

The boy was, almost ignoring him. Talking to Novalie next. Calling her chimera. Oliver let an amused chuff out. That... It was strangely fitting. Not that he would ever call her that, Nicknames were silly. Unnecessary. Why not just use someone's proper name? It could be Sanguinius was just not bothered to learn it. Rude. If he was asked. Quite rude in dead. Sure- Oliver could be mean. Depending on who you asked, but at least he tried to know the name of the people he associated with.

He clenched his jaw, when he was at last acknowledged by the jerk. Why was he even here? "And I can pretend to enjoy your presence here." He responded dryly, unamused, and frankly. A little pissed off at the boys arrival. "For the sake of the party's peace." He did not hold back the eye roll. He did not want this in the first place, and now had to endure, two ass holes, and Novalie. Could it get any worse?

"The main attraction is here! Make way, make way!" Thought to soon. Another loud, far to loud, ball of energy. Who was this now? He gained some information that he could be slightly thankful for, like the mystery girls name. 'Meiyu'. He was blowing out so many names. It was hard to keep track of. He thought he called Novalie a stupid nickname to. And then 'Waffles' to Sanguinius. Unfitting. Sour grapes, if he wanted a food name. That would be fitting. Still, pointless nicknames.

What the hell? Did he just throw another gift at him? He caught it of course. Oliver was not fool enough to miss that. It was at the cost of Otis being disturbed enough to jump for Oliver's lap. "Life savings?" He repeated, did he hear that right? "And-? Did you say orogen donation?" He had, a somewhat alarmed expression on his face. This gift better be worth something. Based on size though, he doubted.

Oliver, with as much care that he used to open Novalie's, un wrapped it. And- oh. Not as thoughtful as Novalie's, not at all. To be expected, as he had no clue on this guys name. Clearly he wanted attention, bursting into a private event. Declaring himself to be the life of the party or something, Oliver didn't care enough to remember. "Did you call me Liv?!" He looked up from the hair barrettes, confused on what they meant. Liv? Of all things.

He should have just walked away when he saw the sign on the door. This was a disaster. What the hell Aaron?

This thread serves as Oliver's birthday thread. He turned twelve on the thirty first of October. he would not have invited you. Keep that in mind, I would ask that you don't mention Oliver having told you about his birthday or the party. That doing was all Aaron. He would have seen Oliver and your character hanging out somewhere or just guessed that they hung out. Leaving this part up to you.
The letter they would have gotten is as follows- (or something like this )

.

I am giving permission to godmod Aaron a little bit if you want, with him making small comments here and there about 'how small first years are' and things of that nature. if you want to bring it further owl me and we can talk about it.

I will be posting once a weak to keep it going <3 <3

Cirrus pouted his lips slightly as he rubbed his eyes, they were puffy and red, his nose seemed like an accessory to the irritation. The truth was Cirrus had cried alot the past few days, he had been extremely behind on school-work and studying, so in turn he gave up having fun for Halloween to catch-up. Cirrus at some points would have small breakdowns when struggling on a topic he deemed impossible, he cursed it only to find out it was simpler than he thought. He hoped his parents would be proud for doing something more responsible than going to a party, what if it made him look more mature? Though that made him feel better, he was still sad he missed out on some candy.
A few days ago while Cirrus was leaving his herbology class an older boy with champagne locks approached him. He couldn't remember what the boys name was anymore, but short story short it was his classmate's birthday. He was invited because he was his classmate? But to be frank Cirrus didn't really know the boy Oliver Armani, as stated in the invitation. But he thought it rude not to attend since he was invited, and he wanted to do something fun after spending days on school instead of festive activities. He had made a Hotgepodge using a recipe from a book he found in the library, but he made it a vegan version, being vegetarian himself he couldn't be too careful what too feed people. He was aware that people could be allergic to eggs and nuts so he made sure not to use any of them. Cirrus himself was extremely allergic to eggs, so he also couldn't cook with them. It would still tatse delicious though, Cirrus made sure of it by eating a duplicate version of it.
Cirrus walked in sheepishly, he was already having second thoughts. He felt like an outsider because he didn't know the birthday boy, is this what they called imposter syndrome? He didn't even know what he looked like, he looked around to room looking for a cue of what to do. Everyone seemed to be walking up to this particular boy who didn't look very happy, he had identical champagne locks to the older boy Cirrus had met earlier. Was he Oliver? There was only one way to find out as he started to walk over, only to wimp out and almost walk away. Just to push himself to talk to him again. He ended up just standing a little distance away from him, giving him an awkward smile and tiny wave with the tiny box in his hands.

───── The letter came as somewhat of a surprise, mostly because Gekko was pretty sure Oliver told her he hated parties. She'd bought his birthday gift before the end of September and stored it safely on her side of the dorm, hidden away from his devious beast Otis. It was all the work of being a good dorm mate, after all, she was an upstanding student and had to exude her main character energy in order to make sure Oliver could see how cool she was. In a way, she liked the idea of impressing her dreary dorm mate, but she liked bothering him at the same time. Not her fault he was like an angry kitten, always swatting at her attempts of friendship but at the same time letting her do whatever she wanted. Was this what they called sibling energy?

The thought made the young girl let out a small huff of laughter, stopping on the steps to calm herself down. She'd never had a sibling, she was an only child, but Oliver clearly wasn't. In this case, the younger bratty brother slot suited him well. She merely shook her head at the thought, continuing her trek up the numerous staircases from the dungeon. That was something she definitely did not find funny. Why in the world did his brother decide to have the party so far away from the dungeons, didn't he know how far Slytherins would have to travel? Besides, Gekko wasn't fit, so she was already a little sweaty when she reached the second floor and fanning her face in an effort to preserve her bob from sweating out.

The note taped to the classroom door didn't bother her, but the sound of other voices inside the room did give her pause. She glanced down at her small sparkly bag containing Oliver's birthday gift, a cute pair of dazzling barrettes she'd gotten from Diagon Alley. The person told her it changed to the wearers favorite color, and she couldn't stop herself from immediately dropping the sickles into their hand. A painter had to keep his hair out of his face, right? With that, she gathered her bag into her arms and pushed open the door, but nothing could have prepared her for the variety of people she'd see.

Well, they weren't that odd, honestly. But she only knew two other people, not counting Oliver. Honestly, the two girls looked pretty cool and Gekko was definitely going to say hello to them, but the blonde boy who looked like he hated even being alive? Nope, she'll trust her guts on that one, he looked like trouble. She mentally scratched him off her head and stepped further into the room, a straight beeline for the birthday boy. You socialized after you paid your respects to the special person, that's what her family always told her. Besides, she had technically had two gifts for him.

"Oliver." Gekko immediately made herself known by coming to stand beside the bubbly redhead, whom she dubbed as Sunshine in her with that bright smile of hers. Her own lips twitched in an attempt of a smile, as if subconsciously trying to mimic that perfect grin. She held out her small bag expectantly while simultaneously throwing her arm over the taller blonde's shoulders. "Happy birthday. I've been so busy I never got a chance to give you your gift, I've been hiding it to make sure Otis doesn't ruin it somehow." Her tone was bleak per usual, minus the slight lilt of humor. The girl pulled at the bottom of her shirt, stretching it out for him to see it properly. "Do you like my shirt? It reminded me of you." The teasing was obvious, it was glaringly obvious. There was that sibling energy again. Because only someone like Gekko would get a shirt that said 'Olive You!' with a smiling drawn olive and say it reminded her of Oliver.

miles away. | SONG
Had it not been for the last few months since Meiyu's arrival at Hogwarts, where she had developed an odd habit of glaring at students and forming presumptuous judgements, it would have been unlikely that she would have realised the birthday boy's sudden discomfort by her presence. They were strangers after all. Yet adamant not to apologise for the unfortunate event of the pair sharing a birthday, immediately assuming he was downright egotistical, someone who always got their way, or with the newfound freedom under the prying eyes of parents, suddenly developed a backbone, much like herself. Though his later actions of interrogating an older boy, which had dawned on Meiyu to most likely be his brother, due to their similar features, the eldest that had also failed to receive blessings on his looks, similar to the vermin that was amidst a temper tantrum, confirmed her intuition.

"By the looks of it, you should be thankful a random even came to this pathetic excuse of a party." She muttered, her eyes darting across the empty classroom, yet her choice of venom could not have come at a worse time, a young bubbly girl with hair as bright as fresh pricked blood had entered, forcing Meiyu to almost wince at the notable personality difference between the two, their only common denominator being their hair colour, despite Meiyu's own head of hair being a much darker in comparison. The girls arrival had brought a name to the blonde loser's face, Ollie? What an awful name, this poor boy had not been blessed with looks and his name only made his case far worse.

As the red head briefly looked at Meiyu before back at the boy, the remark on him having many friends and being oh so popular, caused her to scoff louder than she initially intended. Her thoughts on lashing out at the girl were prompt interrupted when a familiar lion entered the room, immediately noticing her and easing her rising irritation at the situation she had found herself in. Sanguninus had a knack for rambling, the consequences of his upbringing no doubt, irregardless to the similarities they did share though had not explored, Meiyu on the other hand portrayed herself differently than he had. Her cat like eyes remained fixated on his, her horrendous habit of glaring at others was inescapable. "What would make you think I'd attend this pathetic excuse of a party willingly?" Her tone coming out much sharper than she initially intended to, internally cringing at the thought of being associated with this troll of a boy and his even more hideous of a brother, whoever the Armani's were clearly had not been notable enough for Meiyu to recognise or remember, regardless of the countless galas she had attended with her family in order to play niceties.

He had continued his rambling until a familiar face from the school's gala appeared, Aodhan, the funny little lion. Meiyu began questioning if the birthday boy had been collecting her lions, the mere thought causing her blood to boil with her possessiveness towards her housemates becoming more evident as her time flew by at this wretched school. Her eyes trailed back to the door, noting two new attendees, a boy who had appeared to be crying and a girl dressed in odd attire, though intriguing non the less. This was some lineup, clearly more than half of these attendees had not been suited to be the snakes friend, except the red head, who seemed to be tormenting him in a lighter manner than Meiyu would have preferred.

It appeared as though Aodhan had managed to get his hands on some dye, transforming himself as though he was hiding behind interpersonal issues, such as herself. She had doted on him since their brief meeting at the gala, yet she was in no position to do the doting. Despite sharing the same birthday as the snake, she had no familial ties here at Hogwarts, none that she was aware of who were presently in attendance, nor did she have a good amount of friends, rather just acquaintances with a few lions and odd interactions with snakes, a house she was beginning to constantly find herself drawn to. Though, this was no time for her mind to begin mental gymnastics, not in a public situation. Even so, why would she leave now, it was getting interesting. Meiyu stood still, crossing her arms in distaste and protest, if this boy had the nerve to gallop around the school tormenting students with his troll looks, she had the nerve to stay and ruin his day.

When Oliver unwrapped her gift and ran his fingers over the soft, fluffy earmuffs, Novalie’s grin widened, and she began bouncing in place, barely able to contain her excitement. He seemed happy! He even said the gift was thoughtful.
“Right? Right?? They look so warm and cozy!”, she added, her words spilling out in delight.
Before she could say more, another familiar voice chimed in.

“Oh, hey Waffles!”, Novalie greeted cheerfully, spotting the boy she’d met at the beginning of the school year.
The two of them had shared a boat to Hogwarts, an encounter that had quickly turned into an adventure when their boat was inexplicably yeeted into the air. Despite the chaos, Novalie couldn’t help but mentally bookmark him as both hilariously dramatic and a touch grumpy - at least in his mannerisms. Looks-wise, he appeared as young as everyone else in here, except Aaron, of course.

Waffles, however, skipped over her nickname of 'Vanilla Ice' and, to Novalie’s surprise, addressed her as 'Chimaera'.
For a brief moment, her smile faltered, her widened eyes blinking at him in astonishment.
Chimaera..?
The word echoed in her mind.
Easily unnoticed, the tips of her fiery red curls shifted to a soft, pinkish hue, her metamorphmagus ability reacting instinctively. As Waffles continued speaking, the pink spread further and further, like watercolor soaking into her hair, until it was a pastel pink all the way to the roots. A delicate blush bloomed across her nose, mirroring the color transformation, and her expression changed into one of pure, giddy delight.
“Oh my god!”, the girl squeaked, clapping her hands to her cheeks when the lion finished speaking.
Chimaera?! An unpredictable, powerful beast of mythology? And he thought it suited her flawlessly?! From all the compliments she’d received since coming to Hogwarts - and there had been many, Hogwarts students were remarkably kind - this one was by far her favorite!
Her heart practically leapt with joy!
“I- I don’t know what to say..”, she admitted, looking genuinely flustered.
But then, an idea struck her, “No, wait, I do! I’ll come up with a really sick nickname for you too!”

With her new mission in mind, Novalie’s attention was drawn to the door as another guest arrived. Her face lit up when she saw who it was.
“Ice Lord!”, the Ravenclaw gasped, her excitement overflowing at that point.
Turning to Oliver, she asked, “You’re friends with him too? I didn’t know! Ice Lord is, like, the coolest boy around here!”
She waved enthusiastically at the dark-haired boy as he made his way in, marveling at the dramatic flair of his entrance. To her, he resembled a king walking into a grand royal meeting, where everyone would rise in deference. Wow…

As more people filtered into the party, Novalie noticed just unfamiliar faces. Some she might’ve passed in the corridors or shared a class with, but this one particular guest quickly caught her eye and everything else seemed to blur out.

- Olive you! -

Novalie’s gaze locked onto the beautiful girl with short, dark hair who had just congratulated Oliver and handed him a gift. It wasn’t her greeting or gift that stunned the Ravenclaw but the shirt she was wearing. It had the phrase written in green letters on a white background, with an olive-shaped smiley face replacing the 'o' in 'you'.
Novalie was spellbound. The fashion statement was unlike anything she’d ever seen and she couldn’t tear her eyes away.
Finally, when she finished her sentence, Novalie couldn’t help herself. Gently taking the girl’s hand in hers, she looked directly into her large eyes, her own sparkling with intensity.
“Please!”, the now pink-haired student pleaded, “Can I have it? I’ll give you everything I own!”
