This duelling thing Prat was doing might actually be getting out of hand. Alyssea would tell him such if they had any sort of relation outside of sports. So far, their acquaintanceship only included duelling each other 'til the death (which Alyssea had won twice now, though the last duel felt like it wasn't well-earned), watching Prat duel someone (just like today), and playing healer on the side of a very illegal broom sport. It was fine, of course. They were in different year groups so Alyssea couldn't exactly expect such an intimate relationship with an underclassman who was also in a different house from her, but she couldn't help the concern either way.
Today, his opponent just so happened to be her roommate. That made finding her much easier than it normally would've been. The last few duels of Prat's that Alyssea watched were of the same year group as him, bar the duel two days ago that Koko moderated, so the matchups seemed fair enough. Today's matchup was diabolical and probably something her cousin (Raizel) would've sought because Lea was literally three years older than Prat and more experienced in duelling. Heck, she was literally one of Hufflepuff's captains. She might as well demolish him in one hit.
When they arrived, it seemed redundant to tell them the rules. They knew exactly what a duel entailed and the rules behind it. All that was left was just to watch and... maybe pray. Yeah, prayers seemed good. So, Alyssea took her post at the side and said, "Right, when you're ready..."

AEIOUSAPrat couldn’t help but feel the mounting pressure as he stood on the piste, facing off against Lea. This dueling habit was getting more interesting and exciting with each passing day even recalling his recent duel where he had squared off against their moderator for today, Alyssea herself. She seemed to be present around for most times he duelled, either against her or as a moderator. All of that wasn't coincidence but rather choice as he found her eager to moderate , in addition her knowledge for healing those beaten and bruised made it easier to cover up things most might find themselves landing in detention.
Today’s duel might have looked almost unfair to everyone. Lea was older, more experienced, and one of Hufflepuff’s captains. The odds were stacked against him. Prat however saw this as an attempt to glance into future and see Lea as the roadmap for what a duellist at hogwarts could turn out to be in the future, even him. As they prepared to start, Alyssea’s voice rang out, "Right, when you're ready..."
Prat took a deep breath as he steadied himself. Prat focused solely on the duel now, forgetting past and present as he braced himself up for it. I’ve faced tough opponents before. I got this, he told himself as he hyped himself up. All that was left was to give it his all.

Lea often competed against younger years and today was no exception. It wasn't as though the Hufflepuff forced this upon them, rather Second Years appeared the self-sacrificing type until eventually visiting the Hospital Wing three times a week grew a little much. There was a slight glance towards Alyssea, although the other Hufflepuff had been one of the better young duellists when it came to least amount of visits to the Third Floor. Perhaps Lea should have been the one to save Prat from his fate, but considering he was a Duelling Captain for Slytherin- well, he was too far gone. And regardless, Lea did enjoy when she was not the one lying on those sterile white beds.
"I hope you don't mind me using this as a testing grounds?" There were a number of spells the Fifth Year studied yet never received the opportunity to try, eyes moving to read invisible script of spells practiced only against the dummies. She could keep with traditional strategy, but considering she hardly expected him to land a hit, knocking the Slytherin down wasn't a priority. Still, mindset was a priority, there were certainly spells that could turn the tides if she wasn't prepared. She took a deep breath and shifted her weight to the front of her feet, lightly rolling the chestnut wand with her thumb, before nodding lightly to signal she was ready. Perhaps this would turn into a good opportunity to learn more about her colleague-

Testing ground was certainly one way to put an unofficial duel, or any unofficial match for any sport. Alyssea had done them more times than she could count on one hand, probably. Here, the stakes were considerably lower and there was nothing to lose by trying unconventional combos. Then, once you figured out which unconventional combos were actually pretty hard-hitting, then you could throw it in the actual matches with 95% confidence (because there was still a chance the thing could backfire unless you perfected it to the point that you could replicate it in your sleep).
Now, Prat's spell was one Alyssea normally wouldn't consider since it was more... random the rest. It could hit in just about any area of the body and if it actually helped you was a fifty-fifty not many would gamble on. Plus, if it backfired, it did so much damage to you than your opponent Unfortunately, this was one of those times for Prat. His casting arm would go half-limp. Alyssea grimaced.
Lea's was something Alyssea had recently tried. A cold air washed over the room and Alyssea brought her arms closer as she shivered. The Freezing Spell wasn't a bad opening at all, and maybe something Third years and up could consider if they could also spread it. The more frozen opponents you had, the harder fire spells would hit. While nobody had been hit with any real damage, the effects of the spells would certainly be a massive curse on its own.

AEIOUSAPrat's cheeks now resembled a deep shade of Crimson while he stumbled back, another embarrassment go the collection. "FU#&," he muttered under his breath, glaring at the unresponsive hand of his, or well whatever monstrosity his perfect form had become now. This string of failing spell casting was getting embarrassing. Prat couldn't help but let out a defeated sigh, letting his arms flop to his side like a ragdoll as the spell's backlash left him incapacitated. He wasn't sure for how long he shall suffer this great embarrassment, "Great," he muttered under his breath, "Another one for the books."
He'd been so sure this new charm would be a game-changer. He'd spent a considerable time in the library, scribbling notes, and practicing the incantation in his mind until it rolled off his tongue. He decided to chalk it all upto being a part of the learning process. Coping as he offered a forced smile ti his inner self. Perhaps sticking to the basics next time would be a better choice than to turn into a human slinky. It was for the better that this was merely sparring and not an actual match. This would've been a swift end to the duel. Prat decided to further stick to his basics from then on.

Freezing someone hadn't been something Lea tried before, although it sounded interesting- she had controlled fire, lightning, wind, and water before, why not add another element to the list? Remembering the full incantation was more challenging than anticipated, chestnut wand wavering in its tracing through the air. Yet it would still be enough and with a precise flick, the Fifth Year sent the spell spiraling towards the Second Year with little chance of escape- certainly not as powerful as the spell could have been, but interesting.
As for the other spell, Lea didn't even have to worry about dodging. It seemed the boy had targeted himself, witnessing what could have been a nice Spongify explode backwards and soften his arm instead of her own. "Another? This has happened before?" The Hufflepuff had certainly had her fair share of explosions, but she was careful to keep them off the piste as much as she could. She paused for a moment, tapping her foot before returning to the light step she kept during duels. "I suppose that's what these duels are for then. Better to backfire here than in front of a crowd. Although you might have been better with a- younger opponent?" As for his current state, it seemed rather sad that he was the only one with effects and little chance of returning fire, but it wasn't an uncommon predicament in duels. He had agreed to this after all.

Today, Alyssea learned that the Freezing Spell stops you from actively dodging, which should've been common sense anyway because how were you supposed to dodge if you were near-frozen? Alyssea could be bright, of course, but usually that was reserved for being in the presence of her best friends of which probably only had one brain cell among them. She still loved them, of course, platonically. Anyways, that basically explained why Prat chose to throw a spell rather than save his own skin from being hit by another spell. Yikes.
So now, while Prat was borderlining hypothermia (okay, maybe Alyssea was exaggerating, but you get the point), he was also dealing with a foggy head, congested nose, and mucus running down his face. Talk about a bad cold indeed. His limp arm had bounced right back to normal, so at least his aim would improve with the next spell, snotty nose aside.
For her own duel, Alyssea had taken the opportunity to burn Prat while he was cold for more damage, so this choice of a spell by Lea certainly warranted an eyebrow raise. What exactly was she planning? Alyssea was having that moment where she stared at the fellow Hufflepuff and thought, thank gods they're in my house.

The first round had been a buffer, a chance to gather her thoughts and keep Prat an easy target before she figured out what exactly she wanted to do. There was a spell that required a bit of extra preparation, but- it wasn't Lea tried before. And now was the perfect opportunity. It would take some younger year spells which brought a small frown to the Hufflepuff's face, but surely the end result would bring enough of a spectacle that younger spells did not bring any uncertainty to her practice. Not that either of them would judge, but- it was the principle.
Prat hitting her in this state was almost a laughable thought- certainly possible, but it would be more shameful for Lea than anything. The spellcasting itself though, was impressive, the intention and incantation clear with a strength she didn't often see. The show would garner an eyebrow raise and a small nod to the younger captain even as her hand raised to aim towards the Slytherin. The first step was the Curse of the Bogies, a fun combination when paired with being frozen, truly making one feel as though they had a cold- not that Lea had ever experienced it. The cast itself was fine, standard yet with no additional spark that she had just seen from Prat's, but her aim was true leaving no escape with the effects the Second Year already suffered from. Unfortunate from him, great for her.
The sideline eyebrow raise gained a curious look of its own, trying to decipher what was going through her roommate's head. "Give it some time. I don't need to knock him unconscious immediately. It's a practice, after all- I'm not even sure if it works." With a shrug, Lea turned her attention back to the duel.

AEIOUSABeing frozen was not a new experience for Prat, rather it was something he had been getting accustomed to now, no biggie for him. However he was expecting something along the lines of Incendio or a duo at the very least. He thought his opponent would try and end the duel as soon as they could. Instead he was hit with Mucus ad Nauseam. The experience was not only jarring but also tough to bear. He had never felt this sick before. The sensation of a blocked nose along with the icy embrace that kept creeping up on him was one he would not soon forget. Or perhaps he would, soon in a day or two, ready to get hurt again on the piste in the unrelenting madness to experience all sorts of duelling he possibly could.
In anyone's view this duel and accepting it would be considered stupidity, It was. Prat however was yet to feel bad about his decisions as he attempted to cast Spongify on Lea before he was hit with her wicked spell. He decided to enjoy the duel since either way it would end soon and the damage had already been dealt to him. Best he could hope for was to come out of it a better strategist.

Lea was right, of course. Unofficial duels were for practice and, even with the conventional time limits of spell rounds, there wasn't really a rush to knock anyone out. That didn't stop Alyssea from wondering what she was trying to get at with the Bogies' Curse and the Sneezing Hex together. Now, see, the first time Alyssea ever used the Bogies' Curse and the Sneezing Hex in a duel, the curse hadn't worked but the hex had been a game changer on top of a backfired Cracker Jinx. It was that kind of unconventional combination that you wouldn't have thought to pair together but, once they were paired, worked so well that it was almost terrifying what it became.
On the outside, poor Prat had snot running down his face, only amplified by the sudden and violent bouts of sneezing that came every so often. Alyssea knew those sneezes had to hurt in your ribs. He'd tried to retaliate, but even with a recovered arm Lea's reflexes were simply better from years of practice and precision. Being able to hit Lea in the first place would need so much concentration and preferably no snotty nose and rib-aching sneezes, but you roll with the punches.
