When Summer Comes Around...
The letter was short and succinct, as it always was when her mother wrote to her. If she were being honest, it was always her grandmother's letters she looked forward to the most, enjoying the play by play of the old woman's day. However, she still enjoyed hearing from her mother.A ghrá mo chroí, my love
I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying yourself at Hogwarts. I know that you've been working so hard at school and Nanna and I are so proud of you. I havn't put any plans together for our summer trip yet, but when I do, I'll be sure to let you know. Perhaps, if you like, you might even bring one of your new friends along. I'd love to meet them.
Until next time, gráinn darling be safe, work hard and have fun.
All my love,
Mummy
Perched quietly on the edge of the fountain, legs criss-crossed beneath herself, pale eyes read and reread the letter as she chewed on her lip. So much had happened, so much bad stuff, and she couldn't even bring herself to tell her mother about it. Usually, it was no trouble telling her mother everything that was going on in her life, but recent events proved to be more difficult to even speak to her mother about. Thus far, Isaac had been the only person she'd felt comfortable enough to speak to about it; but the boy had also been with her the entire time.
Guilt welled in her chest knowing the last letter she had sent had been filled with nothing but lies and made up stories about school and the Blossom Ball. Of course she knew she couldn't hide the truth for forever. The moment she arrived home and the warm weather peaked and summer shone down in the heat when she'd be forced to shed long sleeves, her mother would know.
Frustrated with herself and her situation, the child aggressively crumpled up the letter into a tight ball before pitching it into the water, wanting the ink to disappear and the paper dissolve into nothingness, almost wishing she'd never gotten the damned thing in the first place.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

When Summer Comes Around...
River had been standing outside, simply watching others. Observing all the different and strange habits and activities that humans would make.
She stood quietly in the shadows, hoping to avoid a sunburn, as the sun shone down upon the green grass of the grounds.
There were a few students around. There were groups of girls, chatting and gossiping like they always did, some seemed to just be enjoying the sun, and others were up to different activities.
The blue eyes of River landed on a small and scrawny looking boy, wearing the house colours of slytherin. He seemed to be getting off on a bad foot with some gryffindors, and a hufflepuff too, it seemed. Three against one? People can be real jerks at times, River thought to herself, as she watched them judgingly from across the grounds.
The young girl enjoyed watching other people. She found them quite interesting, and some times just plain weird. Could she seem creepy while watching others from the shadowy cornes? Sure, some times perhaps. Still, River didn’t really mind that.
River’s focus shifted from the group of boys, to someone by the fountain. A girl, assumably there all by herself. She was reading something, it looked slightly like a note of some kind, or perhaps a letter?
River could swear she had been sitting there for a while now, and the letter didn’t seem that long. Was she just a slow reader, or had she been rereading the paper multible times? Maybe she was simply thinking?
Seemingly, out of nowhere, she crumpled the note up in her hands, and threw it back into the fountain on which she was sitting. I wonder what that could be about? She thought, as her mind started imagining all sorts of sad or infortunate scenarios.
River started a slow pace towards the girl, still minding the sun above her.
She definitely did not like it when others came and stuck their noses into her personal things, but she could not help but get curious of other’s.
The ravenclaw carefully approached the girl, she did look familiar from somewhere. «Ouch... that didn’t seem like a pleasant read.», River said curiously, looking after the paper, slowly dissolving within the clear water of the fountain.

Illowy shifted how she was sitting to lean back against one of the pillars of the fountain and crossed her arms over her stomach, pale eyes practically staring daggers into the waterlogged note. It was entirely accurate that her anger was misplaced. After all, it wasn't her mother she was upset with; it was herself.
When a soft voiced pipped up and a plume of red hair entered her peripheral vision, the child turned her head to see another girl about her age, peering over the edge of the fountain to see the effects of her minor temper tantrum, "It was fine." she grumbled, "My family is just so bloody proud of me and how good my grades are and planning the our stupid holiday and its just bloody fantastic." she ranted, voice dripping in frustration and cynicism.
It didn't strike her completely in that moment how she might've been misinterpreted or why she was actually upset. The heaviness of the situation and the trauma of it all, she wasn't even sure she was ready to talk about to anyone outside of her house or the people who had been involved directly. It felt as though if she kept telling people about what had happened, it would only make the situation more and more real; but the thoughts and memories were eating away at her.

River wondered why the girl’s situation with the letter was something to be upset over. Really, she did not understand at all. Still, River knew one can’t judge anyones situation without knowing it from their point of view.
«I mean, you’re lucky to at least have anyone owl you at all, or show any interest in how you’ll be spending your holiday», River said, sending the girl a careful smile. That probably won’t make her feel any better... So far, River’s father had not sendt her a single owl, not one letter. She was sure he didn’t even want her home for the holidays.
The girl looked quite shaken though, apparently this ment a lot to her.
«I don’t mean to pry, and you don’t need to talk about it if you don’t want», The curious girl said quietly. «But, why is, what was in the letter, so upsetting to you?», she continued slowly. River couldn’t help but feed into the small flame of curiosity that had been lit as she saw the piese of parchment floating around in the fountain.
She would often try her best to not stick her nose up in others private business. Sadly, it often happened after all. She often felt the need to know as much about a person as she possibly could. She didn’t know exactly why. Perhaps it was to be closer, or maybe just to know where to stand with them?

Illowy gave the other a short look. Was that comment meant to make her feel better? Of course she knew she was lucky. She was grateful for everyone in her family, grateful to have a home that would be happy to have her back under their roof, even if it was just for the holiday. That wasn't the point.
The Slytherin looked away once more, watching the paper float about helplessly; not too different from how she was feeling. Like she was floating helplessly from day to day, unable to still entirely process what she had seen and felt, feeling like she was drifting further and further from being able to connect with people her own age with these thoughts clouding her mind.
Her attention was only brought back when the ginger spoke once more, "Nothing. That's just it. Bloody nothing. It said exactly what I told you." she grumbled, "That's just the problem because in my letter home, I just lied my happy arse off to my mother." she roughly combed her fingers through her hair, "I get that I'm a Slytherin, and I'm sure that you already have your opinions of us, but I don't lie. Especially not to my mother... but I did."
Maybe it didn't seem like a big deal to most other kids. After all, at some point or another, everyone lies to their parents, whether its something big or small; but Illowy hated lying to her family. After all, what did she have if she didn't have the trust and understanding of them? Her family was everything to her. She hadn't even been able to tell her cousin what had happened and he was there at Hogwarts with her, at her bedside when she'd woken up from the ordeal.

When Summer Comes Around...

River stood there, watching the girl with arms folded tightly across her chest. Cold eyes under furrowed eyebrows flickered between the girl and the paper in the fountain. River’s brain zoned off and begun second-guessing her desicion of coming over in the first place. She knew she sucked at making others feel better, or showing empathy, or helping others out. It was not something River would usually do at all, not unless it gave any benefits for therself. Still, River didn’t see herself as straight up mean, but just as someone who has a hard time caring for others. It was like her brain automatically searched for how a situation would be best for her, not others.
One thing River was though, was a liar. She would lie to a lot of people about a lot of things. Small things, big things, to Professors, to friends, and sometimes to family. She’d gotten so used to it, that the feeling of guilt she’d usually be flooded with, had at this point simply stopped coming at all. She didn’t lie for fun, or without it being necessary, but if lying would be the best for her own sake, she’d do it no problem. There are only a few people she’d absolutely never lie to, but you’d need to get very close to River to be safe from lies.
«I don’t really believe in the whole ‘house-stereotype thing’», River said, after the girl had spoken. She would never have lied to her mother, so a part of her understood the girl at that moment.
«But you shouldn’t beat yourself up over this one tiny thing», she attempted, «Or perhaps it doesn’t feel like a tiny thing to you, but I’m sure whatever you wrote, isn’t going to get anyone killed, and I understand you might have been surprised by yourself, lying to you mother», she stopped for a second before continuing, «But I think that everybody lies to their parents at some point in their life, and doing that this one time, does absolutely not define you»... River stopped abruptly, and her eyes went wide for a milisecond. What in the world was that? She had no clue what just came out of her mouth, but whatever it was, it did not sound like her. Surprised by herself, she watced the girl without saying another word. Almost a little scared she’d suddenly burst out something idiotic... although it was probably too late already.

Illowy listened quietly as the Ravenclaw spoke her piece; not her usual act of only half listening when someone was talking at her, but actually taking in the words being spoke. Certainly the girl wasn't wrong. Everyone lies to their parents, but Illowy had come to hold her mother up on such a high pedestal, lying to her may as well have been a condemn-able sin.
Maybe it was the fact that it was such a big lie though. It wasn't like she lied something silly like a bad grade on a test or having a super secret boyfriend... she lied about being in a potentially life threatening situation, about how she'd been hurt, and about what she'd seen in the forest, "I know it happens to everyone at some point I just... usually people lie about a grade or sneaking out or getting detention." the snake explained softly, "I didn't. Granted, my mom would flip if I did lie about any of those things, but I lied about the Blossom and Ball and the Forbidden Forest-" the brunette cut herself off.
Memories of that night washed back over her and the girl retreated into herself for a moment. No.. she didn't think she was quite ready to admit what she'd seen outside of the small group that was involved, "It was just a really bad, really stupid situation that almost ended horribly wrong and I told her everything was fine and nothing happened."
