Koko was hardly one for duelling. The girl tended to hardly listen to news of the sport at school, and her participation in it was few and far between. She could rarely be seen haunting the duelling club, only popping in to practise spells for classes because she was more than aware she was often horrible at spellcasting. She could hardly cast a lumos to save her life, let alone a fulgari in a duel. Nonetheless, here she was, having agreed to moderate a duel for two younger students.
It couldn't be much different than Quidditch, really. Refereeing it, at least. She just had to make sure no one tackled someone else, or that when people were down, they weren't still being attacked. She didn't think there were any fouls to keep track of, unlike in Quidditch, where she would have had to keep her eyes peeled for any illegal moves. That, at least, was a relief.
The seventh year stood with a careful view of the piste as she waited for the underclassmen to arrive. She would likely appear vaguely disinterested to those who saw her – her amber eyes were narrowed slightly, but not too focused on anything aside from the piste in general, and her lips were set in a firm line. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a loose bun, and she wore a large, bulky sweater and flowy trousers.
She waited with her right arm crossed over her chest, the fingers of her right hand tapping against her left arm. In her left hand rested her wand, just in case.
When the two arrived, she would smile at them and nod in greeting. 'Hello! It's nice to see you this evening. Let's keep things clean, and may the best duellist win.'

| Back again, and this time not as a moderator. Prat had been bugging her for weeks for a rematch. Alyssea didn't mind having one, of course, but having it within weeks of each other felt too close. Plus, October was a busy month and she preferred to spend more time preparing for her own sports than the one she didn't do anymore. Both her teammates and fellow healing interns would need all hands on deck, so to speak. November finally rolled around which was basically freedom. The next set of sports games wouldn't be until late January or early February, so all Alyssea had was her studies and Headliner work until training started up again. What a perfect time for a rematch! She hadn't prepared much since the last duel. As a Quidditch player, you never really brought your wand and she wasn't on the actual race track flying to the finish, so there wasn't a demon on her shoulder yelling to learn more duelling spells. She could only wonder what Prat managed to cook up in the last two months since their first match. Surely he found more spells by now? Alyssea waved and nodded to Koko on the way in. It was a bit strange seeing her, considering this wasn't her usual area, but there's a first time for everything. "Evening, Koko." |

AEIOUSAPrat arrived at the dueling hall, his mind racing with anticipation. Despite whatever confident exterior he might've been putting on, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of nerves as he stepped onto the piste. This duel was hardly important, just for.... practice as he told himself but it was also a growth check for seeing how much he had improved himself since the last time he duelled her. Approaching the piste, he noticed Koko standing there, her expression perhaps one of vague disinterest. It was unusual to see this snake involved in dueling.
He gave her a quick nod, acknowledging her presence. “Evening, Koko,” he said, as he attempted to to keep his tone light. Prat rolled his shoulders to loosen up, attempting to crack his back. Getting thrown by those flipendos was painful and he wasn't looking forward to that. “Ready when both of you are.”
Being back there was almost like Deja Vu, he couldn’t help but feel the surge of excitement flowing within him. This was what he had lived for the past few weeks, not this duel specifically but duelling in general—the thrill of competition, the adrenaline rush as spells are flung at each other through the air. He took his place opposite his opponent, his wand at the ready.

It had been a while since Koko had been on the piste for the purpose of a duel, and now that she was a spectator, she found it was very interesting to watch. She knew Prat and Alyssea a little bit, not enough to warrant any knowledge of what their strategy might be like, but enough to not know who to support. Well, she was moderating. She didn't necessarily have to support anyone, really.
She wasn't sure why she had expected explosions. Maybe it was some strange stereotype, or perhaps it was just hearing stories of seventh years duelling. Despite the general lack of explosions, she watched, her expression morphing into one of intrigue as Prat cast Spongify at Alyssea. The spell hit her squarely in the chest, and Koko grimaced. That must have hurt. She could hardly imagine the feeling of her torso being squishy. Hopefully the spell would wear off soon.
Alyssea wasn't about to let Prat get away with it, though. She shot a Glacius at him, a spell Koko had rarely seen used. Her eyebrows rose as she saw the powerful spell hit its mark with ease. The poor boy would probably be feeling very cold right about... now. Fitting for a duel in autumn, she supposed, but she couldn't help but shiver herself. The air would get colder around Prat, and he would find his motions slowed as he adapted to the new temperature. Brr.
Koko, still not entirely sure of duel-running etiquette, stood awkwardly as she watched, hands now poised to clap softly, her wand still clutched loosely between her fingers. Was she meant to comment on what they had done? It was good, yes, but she was by no means a duelling commentator. 'Lovely spells,' she offered.

| Alyssea nodded to Prat when he entered. She set herself up on one side of the piste and brought her wand out from her robe pocket. She was nervous, of course, but Alyssea had learned to feign apathy. If the opponent couldn't read you, then you already had the upper-hand. "Ready," she said while adjusting her stance. While it would've been safer for Alyssea to go for her usual openings, like a Dancing-Feet Spell or Tickling Charm, it felt like the time to do something slightly different. With Third year came a new batch of spells to try out and she certainly wasn't going to let the opportunity fly by. It was too early to blow him up again with the Cracker Jinx, though. Instead, Astronomy had taught them a few tricks she felt would be fun to try. "Glacius!" A blinding pain hit her chest as her spell flew across the piste. Alyssea doubled down and held herself. Amidst the pain, she only hoped her Freezing Spell hit. The only indication was how cold the room suddenly got. Good. Good, she repeated to herself as she assessed the damage. As painful as a Softening Charm to the chest was, she sighed in relief that it wasn't her wand, arm, or leg that got hit. Gods knew she'd probably be screwed after this. |

AEIOUSAAs the duel unfolded, Prat couldn't help but compare it to his previous duel with the badger satan. Back then, he had been caught off guard, unprepared and perhaps too foolish for the intense bombing that would follow him. And the spells and skill she would bring to the duel. But this time was different. He felt more focused, more in control of himself. "This is going way better than last time." His mind raced as he cast Spongify, witnessing it hit Alyssea square in her chest. The satisfaction of landing a hit for the first time working as a huge boost to his confidence. He remembered how he had struggled to keep up with her in their previous duel, how every move she made had seemed to outmatch his back then.
Staying sharp was a thought he kept as a constant reminder to keep his focus. When Alyssea retaliated with Glacius, he felt the cold seep into his bones, refusing to let it slow him down. But alas this bravado only worked for his spirit as he felt an icy embrace around him. The duel had promise of becoming intense, but he would welcome the challenge head on, afterall this was why he even came here. With each passing moment, he felt more confident in whatever experience he gained over time and his abilities.

The next spells fired had a very obvious target in mind.
Koko watched as both Prat and Alyssea cast their spells, and she grimaced immediately when she saw Prat get launched backwards by his own spell. She hadn't seen a miscast flipendo in years, not since her first year, and she started forwards only to stop, having to remind herself that her job was to oversee and not interfere.
Thus, when Alyssea's rather strong Incendio Duo found its mark, Koko stood back, brow furrowed in concern. Merlin. That had to hurt. She could just imagine the pain from hitting the ground, shared with flames crawling along clothing... 'Mince alors,' 'Crikey', essentially she muttered beneath her breath, her non-wand hand over her mouth to mask her speech.
Playing the role of an otherwise-silent sentinel, Koko remained pensive at the sidelines, her gaze mostly on Prat rather than Alyssea, mostly because Prat seemed very beaten-up all of a sudden, whereas in comparison, Alyssea was nearly fine. Especially right now, since she hadn't suffered a hit since the spongify.
She hoped Prat would recover swiftly, but with that strong of a hit, she wondered if this duel would end more quickly than she had imagined. It had only just started...
Her wand rested at the ready – if he needed healing soon, she would be ready to deliver.

| Okay, maybe it was too obvious what her next spell would be considering the strategy she just set up. But look, if it works, it works, right? She never said she would go easy on him and he never asked her to. If Prat was frozen to the spot and cold, then fire was a perfect retaliation to that nasty Softening Charm. She didn't even need to think which version of the Fire-Making Spell she wanted to throw. "Incendio Duo!" Then, she watched the green flames hit their mark. Alyssea wouldn't have felt so bad about the entire round if Prat's spell hadn't backfired. Yes, she's supposed to be putting up a good fight and prove what it means to be in Third year. Yes, she's objectively had more experience at the sport than him and should be demonstrating such. But when you had a very strong Knockback Jinx that was meant to clock your opponent to the ground and instead clocked your own ass on top of a stronger version of the Fire-Making Spell, then it was just too easy. It wasn't really a fair fight. Sure, backfires were normal. Annoying, too, and to be avoided. This one stung, though. So, Alyssea just stared and pursed her lips. Well—!  |

AEIOUSAThis one was already going better is what Prat thought, his belief soon to be shattered. When he cast his spell, he felt as if it would head towards Alyssea. But then, everything went south. Sadly for him his spell misfired, and Prat found himself launched backwards.. The impact knocked the wind out of him as he laid there for a moment, stunned. Landing hard on the ground, he wondered what just happened? He hadn't ever missed a cast so bad, specially that of Flipendo in years. As he struggled to regain his bearings.
Alyssea's Incendio Duo hit him with full force. Flames crawled along his clothing, and he felt the searing pain almost immediately. This can't be happening, he thought. Prat gritted his teeth, trying to push through the pain. His mind now clouded with the ache from the impact and the fire. He forced himself to stand, albeit unsteadily as he attempted to steady himself for the next round.
While he struggled to regain composure, He couldn't help but think how this duel he was looking forward to might end up being over sooner than he could've anticipated. Alyssea didn't even seem like she went into a duel, while he looked as if a troll ran him over. Prat took a deep breath as he tried steadying his nerves. The duel had only just started, and he wasn't yet ready to concede this duel. Not yet.

There was something humbling about watching younger students send off spells better than Koko herself possibly could. Alyssea and Prat, although much younger than her, were two very capable wizards in their own right. Koko was almost disappointed that she would be leaving Hogwarts in a year, if only because she wouldn't be able to watch what these two would learn to do in the future. It would be wonderful, amazing, she was sure of it.
She watched, intrigued, as Prat shot a beautifully-executed Incendio Duo at Alyssea. She couldn't help it – whatever the rule for moderator impartiality, she rooted for him just a little bit. Something about wanting to see a comeback, she told herself. But she watched, now dejectedly, as the spell flew wide, very wide. No matter Prat's somewhat moody casting ability, Alyssea was simply very good at dodging.
Alyssea was also a good caster. Her Rictusempra was solidly casted even if not, perhaps, perfect, and although her aim, too, was not perfect, neither were Prat's evasive abilities. Perhaps it was how winded he was from earlier, from the flames that were just now wearing off, but he stumbled into the path of Alyssea's spell. Koko stumbled into action, biting the inside of her cheek to keep from swearing. She rushed towards Prat, wand out, and muttered, 'Reparifors,' followed by, 'Rennervate.' She stood above his prone figure before smiling at Alyssea.
'Congratulations,' she said to the Hufflepuff. 'I think it's about time he head to the hospital wing...'
