♥♥♥ Xiomara tilted her head in curiosity as he spoke about the older engaged couple in a way that was unexpected of him, "You know them?" She asked - though she was assuming he did because it would have been a very strange thing to say about people he didn’t know. Of course, she had no idea how well he knew them.
She exhaled softly, paused in silence as she listened to Aamon continue his warning - asking her to stay away from someone called Mathias, who she could only assume was the boy who proposed. It could have been someone else but context clues in his words made her think it was him at the very least. He explained that this “Pride” family itself was a family of purebloods with a potential dark history. Perhaps Aamon recognised the couple through his family connections - he seemed to be connected in the wizarding world, after all. Xiomara was reminded that not all of the students grew up with a squib mother who feared that they too would be a squib and therefore, were unconnected with the magical world but prepared them for their muggle lifestyle.
She stared at him in silence, not entirely sure what to say but the usual smile on her face had fallen off. It was clear that she was getting a little nervous by the whole conversation by the way she bit the edge of her lip, looked a little hesitant but was just staring at him as she tried to understand the concerns. Perhaps it was better not to know. Besides, if she attached her name to any articles that negatively framed a powerful family, they might get annoyed at her.
It was not necessarily his words that made her a little anxious. From what she could gleam, as long as she stayed away from the pair, she would be perfectly fine and her life would remain unaffected. No, what made her feel anxious was his reaction to it. Aamon seemed uneasy and that concerned her. The boy oozed confidence for the most part. He had the cutest smile and all of a sudden, it had vanished when talking about this Mathias fellow or the Prides. She stared down at his hand, which he had extended towards her before looking up at the softness that had returned to his face and nodded.
Taking his hand, she gave it a little squeeze as an attempt to comfort him. She might not be able to do anything a family with dark creatures or connections and a ton of money but she could stay away from them, that much she could easily do! "You got it," She responded to an earlier statement he made about sticking with him. That sounded like a good plan, "Is the girl just as uh… interesting?" It was hard to keep her curiosity at bay but from Aamon’s words, there seemed to be nothing about the girl - unless she was from the Pride family but he seemed to only mention a ‘Mathias’.
The room seemed rather foggy anyway - which made for very cool effects on her photographs. This also meant that the pair could blend into the smoke and not be noticed, if Aamon was worried about being seen by this Mathias fellow. It would be nice to just have fun, without being observed anyway.
As she scanned the dance floor, she spotted the cool broom riding boy that she had seen during summer camp, Aaron Jones! He seemed to be with a stunningly beautiful girl - to no one’s surprise. "Dancing sounds nice," She responded with a small smile on her face in return as she adjusted her camera strap to keep it out of the way. "Yeah, let’s dance!" She confirmed, deciding that it was the best way to stay out of trouble! Plus, she enjoyed dancing. Not ballroom dancing but just dancing to random music that her family listened to.
Wait - he did not mean some fancy ballroom dancing right? She had no idea how to do that! The best she could offer in slow dances was just swaying side to side. That was what happened at her primary school dance anyway. Of course, she had seen people do much fancier stuff on TV, like on Strictly Come Dancing that her mama loved to watch!
Nonetheless, she made her way to the dance floor - either following him if he took the led or dragging him if needed. "It will be okay… You know that, right?" Xiomara said softly, her voice was lower than previously as she did not want to be overheard by anyone else. It was barely audible over the music, so she was not entirely sure if he would hear but she looked at him and spoke with the hope of comforting him. Not that she had any idea from what exactly but it just seemed like he needed some comfort. Maybe they were just hollow words from someone who could do absolutely nothing and did not know if it would be okay but she had hope that everything would, eventually, work out and people could overcome any obstacle. As such, she just wanted him to have more hope - and be less nervous, even if she did not really understand the cause of it.

Before he could do that, darkness enveloped them. Aaron felt Illowy's grip on his hand tighten as she stepped closer, and a protective instinct took over as he wrapped his now free arm around her. His instinct was not to go for his wand, but to locate the threat. His eyes lifted to the ceiling in a bid for light, noticing that was the only source. But when he saw the bat-shaped cutouts, his expression grew puzzled. That confusion only intensified as words played out as if on a speaker, talking in the beat of poetry. Had this been planned? His eyes adjusted to the dimmed lighting as he looked back at Illowy, realizing the dancefloor was one of the only softly illuminated areas of the room now. She seemed to relax in the same moment, so Aaron took that as a good sign.
Aaron tried to let what just happened slide off, but it was clear to him that Illowy was also on guard. The upperclassmen were clearly used to disaster at Hogwarts balls. It took them a few minutes of chatting and dancing to fully relax again, but it wasn't long before they were conversing like before. At one point, Aaron would offer her a sip from a flask of firewhiskey. If she accepted, Aaron would've cast an eye around the space for any authority figures before passing it over then tucking it back into his pocket. All in all, their dance was a good time and they had a nice conversation catching up. A few songs in, Aaron found himself laughing so hard at something Illowy said, that he accidentally bumped into someone.
"I'm so sorry," he said, unable to help the smile still on his face from joking around with Illowy. He turned and cast his gaze down to look at whom he'd bumped into, only to find himself face-to-face with a familiar visage. "Greta!" Although he'd been smiling before, Aaron's face lit up like a Christmas tree when he recognized the witch. "It's so good to see you," Aaron said sincerely. He recalled seeing her occasionally during foreign school visits, but they hadn't spoken in quite some time. "And you look amazing!" he complimented, his eyes briefly taking in her flapper-inspired outfit. She had a lot of jewelry on too, very sparkly and intricate pieces.
His brown eyes flickered to the wizard Greta was dancing with, but he didn't recognize him. Introductions were probably in order, especially considering he still had one hand in Illowy's from their dancing. "This is Illowy, a friend of mine. Illowy, this is Greta. She's actually part of the reason I can dance so well," he introduced with a fond smile, recalling their dance lessons all those years ago. His eyes landed back on the light-haired boy, offering a friendly smile and a tip of his fedora as a funny way to introduce himself, "I'm Aaron."
Assuming that Greta would introduce the boy (or that the boy would introduce himself), Aaron would follow it up with, "I hope this isn't too intrusive of an idea, but could I steal you for a dance? I'd love to catchup!" This was directed to Greta, but he would cast his eyes in Felix's direction before settling on Illowy next, "If you don't mind, of course." He hoped it didn't come off as rude, but he was genuinely excited by the idea of catching up with the Durmstrang witch.

Amber nodded at Casey. "Well, that girl sounds cool! You're not hard to put up with! I think you're a great person to talk to!" Amber replied. She was glad that they were not talking about Miles anymore. She did not want to talk about them.
Glancing around she got a bit anxious. It was getting a bit late. Eh, he was probably with Stephen or some other person. It was fine. "Hopefully our dates will get here soon! Maybe you could point out yours when she arrives?" she asked.
Amber laughed as Casey claimed it was her fault that we lost. "No, it's all good! I didn't do much better... pretty sure I did worse. But the boogie board balance was quite tough for almost everyone." she laughed remembering how funny it was. It hadn't been funny at the time when she had done so badly but she didn't mind it at all now. It was a good memory. And good memories from summer camp were great.
And then we were back to the "incident". That was what she would call it. What else would she call it anyway? War? That was quite much. And she couldn't bring herself to even talk about that.
"Yeah..." she said with a sigh. Revenge was now heavily on her mind. But now was time to enjoy herself right? If there was anything to enjoy. She noticed it was a bit windy in here. That was strange. But at least it was better than the last ball. She didn't want to even think about the last ball.
"Well, I guess we are here to enjoy ourselves... so maybe we can keep the revenge plotting for some other time and have fun today!" she exclaimed.
"If only our ball partners were here..." she mumbled, repeating what she was thinking aloud. She sighed for the hundredth time. Where are you Miles? Where are you?

Xiomara was naïve to the darkness lingering around his family, especially the ambitions of Mathias and the tangled strings his brother had tied around his fiancée, but her innocence was comforting in its own way. There was no judgment in her gaze, only a genuine curiosity. And that little squeeze of her hand felt like an anchor, something that reminded him—if only for a moment—of simpler times and a future that could still have some light left in it. Optimism and hope were frail and strange to the pre teen however, his life might have been privileged but it was also estranged from the depth of human connection. He smiled slightly.
"You got it," she assured him. He believed her. He had no reason to feel otherwise, but he was a fool.
"Is the girl just as uh… interesting?" The girl being "Winnie Harper," he acknowledged as he shook his head side to side. "I don't know, but I doubt it," he admitted. "She is more a victim trapped in a spider's web," he went on to say almost sympathetically. "But she seemed nice," that might be her epitaph.
He led her, or perhaps she led him to the dancefloor. They spoke, there was no need to shout or try to listen in spite of the noise. It was simple, it flowed like a stream down its intended path. There was no resistance, no barrier. It was as if he was in the place he was supposed to be. Her words practically swallowed by the music. But he heard her, and the simple assurance in her voice resonated, her faith in the future like a beacon. It was as though she believed everything might, indeed, work out in the end. He held on to that for a beat longer than he would have dared to hope.
"It will be okay… You know that, right?"
He had never danced with a girl before, unless his house elves counted. This was certainly better. “Thank you, Xio,” he said loud enough to only be heard by her, not that he believed others were listening. He moved with the music, there was no practiced routine, rather simple fun. He tried not to think of Mathias or his latest victim. The girl he proposed to was someone who had once seen his brother with stars in her eyes, but that had all shifted now or it would soon enough he reasoned. Whatever affections she’d held for Mathias had become just another one of his threads—one that would trap her. She was the latest to fall prey to Pride family ambition, another pawn in their twisted game.
Aamon paused, awkwardly mid danced, feeling the weight of his heart settle just then. Guilt and anxiety, dread and subjugation to a lifetime of impossible expectation. He was caught in the stare of Xiomara’s dark eyes, something she likely saw as common or not particularly noteworthy. He saw something else entirely, with more gravity than a full spectrum of color, he saw understanding and compassion, her soft smile an echo of the hope. It was that same gentle optimism that bolstered something intangible but present within him. It made him realize that maybe there was still a chance he could find his own path, despite his family. He held her gaze as they danced, finding solace in her presence, but to her her likely seemed strange.
Maybe tonight, we can forget about the shadows.

As Arno stepped into the grand ballroom, with the warm glow of the chandeliers reflecting off the polished marble floor, it casted a soft, golden hue over the sea of elegantly dressed students. Quite too elegant as Arno would consider. The air was smelled like sweet scent of exotic flowers and the annoying mingling of laughter and whispered conversations. A harrowing experience for Arno before He took a deep breath. moving towards the various banquet tables that were filled with an array of mouthwatering delicacies. The smell of meats and freshly baked pastries made his stomach rumble, reminding him that he hadn't eaten since the incident with Prat.
His eyes scanned the room, searching for the boy who had made him suffer humiliation just a day ago. He spotted Prat across the room, surrounded by of course his snobbish friends, as were all Hogwarts students. Arno's hand balled into a fist from pure muscle memory. His memory and his face both were bruised from the incident. It felt like a problem he could let slide but was also aware of how it did not work out for him the first time. As he reached for a drink of his choice, an idea began to form in his mind. A mischievous smile tugged at the corner as he brought out his wand and whispered the incantation for snake summoning spell while he formed the image of an Asp Viper. As he felt the familiar tingle of magic.

MODERATION ROUND 3
The attendees seemed relatively unbothered by the misbehaving weather. Good, Everything had been going too well for him to explain why a stubborn Ventus wrecked away at the decor.
Perhaps they simply had too much in their mind for something as mundane as out of control winds to occupy their thoughts. Perhaps it was the marriage proposal being carried out under the natural spotlight of the moon that drew all eyes. Perhaps it was the cunning fox or the chiding friends, perhaps it was the smugness in the boy's smirk or the dread ok the girl's outstretched hand.
Or, it could have been something more. Like all other Hogwarts students, Archer was well-aware of the attack on the arriving international wixen. Like all other Hogwarts students, Archer was well-aware of the deaths, and now with most younger, oblivious students having left for the activities of his colleagues, death hung glumly over what was meant to be a celebration. He had seen the stink eyes given to him, the displeasure expressed at his food choice. Various teenagers he had never seen before in utmost distraught, and he, an organiser, too fearful of botching everything up, to help them. Hesitantly, he returned Eugenia's wink, and reminded himself to take pride in the event he had worked on since the start of term.
An ambitious, or perhaps just malicious Hedeon (@Noah Jupe) would cast the Transfiguration spell of Smoke to Daggers into the fog, but he would not even succeed to properly form a spark on his wand. Perhaps his brain was too muddled with grief. Yet another caster, Arno Dorian (@Prat Pass) would find his target without a problem. While he had no particular victim in mind, the snake that had shot from his wand seemed to have favoured proposals as it began to slither in the direction of the white clad Ravenclaw (@Winnie Harper). The asp viper had decided a fox was not enough animal companions for the fifth year, following Winnie if she decides to try evading would only yield if fought off.ReducioHedeon casts Smoke to Daggers (dc 16)

As he and Kenzie caught up and talked some boy just shoved into them, without muttering even a "sorry", heck Aston was pretty sure he wasn't even speaking English. "What the-" That was just rude! But before Aston could say anything, before he complained about it. He got a look at the strangers face, he was a good looking guy, with his dirty blond hair and dark brown eyes. But what caught Aston's was his expression, the all too familiar expression of anxiety and stress. Is he having a panic attack or something? Fuck....
Aston zoned out and stopped listening to Kenzie or anything else happening around him, instead being reminded of three years ago, when his mother first left. Despite his father trying his best to not let him see too much of it, to see everything the divorce, or better yet abandonment, did to him, Aston still saw some. The tears that couldn't be held back, and everything that built up to the move to London. No matter what it was, something led Aston to go out of the hall and check up on that boy. "Hey uh Kenzie? I'm gonna just head out for a bit, gimme a sec." He said with a guilty expression, he doesn't want to just leave her here, but he couldn't ignore that feeling in his chest screaming at him to do something.
It took him a bit to get out of the crowed hall, Aston hoped he didn't lose him already, it hasn't been too long right? He has to be around here somewhere. At the same time he hoped he couldn't find him, he worries he'll do something wrong and make it worse. Luckily, the blond boy wasn't hard to find, he got out of the hall and had a look around before catching something, or someone, down a corridor. Aston hurriedly made his way down and there he was, sitting against the wall with his face in his hands. Aston decided to take a set next to him, with some hesitation he slowly starts talking. "Hey, you don't look so good, I mean, balls, am I right? I think this is actually the most people I've seen in a place, at least at summer camp they weren't all in the same room, talking and making noise. I'm pretty sure a girl in my house even got proposed to here. I wonder if it's a pure blood thing or just that guy being weird." Aston never really did help with anyone in this situation, so he opted to talk, distraction should help right? Aston set his hand on the blond boy's shoulder before ending his words, "So, what got to you? Feeling any better?"

Breathe.
In and out.
He repeated it in his mind like a mantra. Anxiety induced panic attacks were nothing new to Luka, he'd dealt with several in the past few years. His moms had told him that his mother, Katya, had also had serious anxiety issues. So he assumed it was a genetic thing. But this one was different, it felt so much bigger. His throat felt tight, his breath came in shallow gasps, his head pounded, the world swirling around him. It was nauseating. Breathe.
Every second felt like an hour. Four, horrible, minutes had barely passed when he heard a voice. He could sense when someone sat down next to him, but their voice sounded far away and distorted. He sits up and looks over at where the voice was coming from. Through his blurred vision he could tell it was a boy with black hair who seems to be about his own age. The boy was still talking but Luka's mind was too scattered for him to know what he was saying. He kept his gaze on the boy as he spoke, trying to focus enough to make out his features. It probably looked like he's staring at him, but in that moment the only thing keeping him from losing his shit was the sound of his voice and the kind expression he wore.
The boy put a hand on Luka's shoulder. The touch sent a shock down his spine. Just the feeling of someone else being there made the overwhelming noises in his mind fade. He ran his hand across the ground next to him, feeling the cold stone. Breathe. He could do that. He tilted his head back against the wall and closed his eyes, taking a slow, shuddering breath. The air felt cool, contrasting the unbearable, imaginary heat he'd felt just moments ago. He glanced back at the boy next to him. "ты ангел?" he said it so softly he doubted the boy could even hear it. "I'm sorry," Luka said shakily, "I... I don't do well with people, especially crowds," his accent was thick and the distress in his voice was audible.
He took another slow breath, a failed attempt and calming himself down. He raised his hand in front of his face, "It happens sometimes, but that was pretty bad." His hand was still shaking when he ran it through his hair. His senses come back with a bang as a sudden feeling of suspicion comes over him, "Why are you out here?"

The moment her tiny little feet stepped inside the ballroom was the moment Irina realized that she, did not know as many people as she would've wanted and that alone was enough to make her reserved composure to shatter - fortunately, for only a moment. As her momentarily panicked eyes scanned the room, she managed to notice those she was actually familiar with and many more that she knew throughout the school but never got the chance to know. Moments like these make her realize just how often she wished she planned to go inside with someone beforehand....other than her cat that is, the one and only Peter Pan, with the clothes to boot of course! "Well it's a good thing we have each other, don't we, Peter?" She muttered as the obedient kitten on her shoulder purred against her cheeks as if to comfort her, and replied with a small meow. She was a bit hesitant to bring Peter out of his shell and the comfort of their home, but with how busy she's been recently, she wanted to spend every time well-spent with him, anytime, anywhere. The reason for how worried she is? Knowing the rumors and incidents that happen during balls in Hogwarts...surely, The Daily Prophet never misses. Just in case, the girl got a small black colored holder, pet somewhat similar to a baby holder that looks and matches exactly her vest and her outfit.
The girl let out a sigh as both her hands ruffled inside the pockets of her suited pants, one of the towards her cheeks as she tried to find a way to bargain with her fate-that is by doing what she does best, socializing. As her legs bent back and forth to an unknown rhythm, it was then she noticed a certain familiar grin and smirk - one that she found to be very fond of.
Before her brain could comprehend the movement from her body, there she was with a hand touching their shoulder, Peter still intact to her, now within the cat holder, purring from the satisfaction of being given two cat snacks, his head popping out slightly as if to greet Cass before hissing back down. "Cass! Oh my god, am I glad to see you!" She breathed out, not exactly exasperated due to the sudden movement - but the relief of finding someone, anyone. There they were, looking all fine and dandy with their ruffled curly hair, it was nice to know someone who had a developed style around here...most definitely. It's not like almost everyone here was either dressed like they were competing to be the best-dressed cupcakes, or kids her age looking like their clothes were picked from a rack their grandma left for them. "Wow, a lot of people dressed their night away for sure huh.." She rambled out, accidentally slipping her thoughts into her mind. It's a shame she was the only one wearing a suit, in her mind it felt revolutionary. Considering that she made sure to wear a suit with a similar style to the 1966 Yves Saint Laurent, the "Le Smoking" tuxedo suit, which was designed specifically for the female body.
'Well-' Irina contemplated her harsh truths for a moment as her lips pursed, her hand coming back to both her pockets. 'That is the theme...' She admitted...It's just that for her, why the hell does everyone look ready to be either cremated or to a wedding? Sure this was a ball but come on, if Ula were here she knew for a fact that it would be an endless night for the both of them, 'talking' and betting about how many years the outfits were kept locked in far-far away where the sun shouldn't have ever been exposed to them. After all, the bluish-grey-eyed girl believed that everyone deserves to present the very best version of themselves...though it did make her a tad bit guilty to talk about the person. The girl shrugged in her mind as her eyes trailed off behind Cass, looking at the 'costumes'. It wasn't the outfit she initially had a problem with, just the styling. However she admits that some are most definitely worthy to be on the front pages of the latest timeless outfits this year, specifically the fact that she saw a cat with bat wings. A bat-cat, now that's Madam Malkin fashion material.
Her head snapped back in sight when heard the sleeping purring from her dearest baby son. Ah right, she forgot to introduce Peter and his unfortunate spoiled demeanor. "Oh, also, don't mind the little demon just now hissing through my pet-holder vest haha, that's Peter Pan for you." She chuckled, a bit guilty but it is within his character to remain spoiled..."Anyway, look at you! Awesome effort!" She meant that, for her friends? Irina would gladly wear any kind of rose-tinted glasses possible. Though she won't deny the thoughts she had, it did make her believe that the devil truly wore Prada.

❅ The girl nodded at the boy's words. "Yes the murder game is straight up inconsiderate. And like, why do all they look so unaware? It seems like only Durmstrang and a few other students know what happened." Astrid sighed and looked around. Across the room, Val and Nikolai looked... tired, sad to say the least. Crossing her gaze, the the older boy put his hand on his heart as a form of greeting. She gave a sad smile back. On the dancefloor side, Greta and Felix were in their little bubble, good for them. Astrid was tired of seeing them turning around each other.
She looked back at Hans, skeptical about the chocolate bar she had put on the table. "Don’t worry, Hogwarts is far too pretentious for snacks as mundane as a candy bar. I brought this from home." The girl smiled. The boy didn't look pleased at her mention of spiked aliments. "Have it, at least it will make me feel better." Astrid sighed, looked at the Snicker, then back at the boy. She took the bar from the table and put it in the pocket of her dress. "In that case... I'll keep it for later, thanks!"
Astrid, like Hans, was lost in her thoughts for a moment. She was trying to understand why the attack had happened. Some people had tried explaining it to her, but she still couldn't understand why. Since that day she's had trouble sleeping, finding it hard to fall asleep and waking up in the middle of the night because of nightmares. She had sent a letter so her sister, who told her to always stay with the other Durmstrang students. The girl knew she was doing better than other of her friends. Some of them had trauma over trauma over trauma, she had the slugs and the attack. She shivered - thinking about the slugs always made her feel like a cold mass was pressing her chest and neck.
He then said "Astrid?", bringing her attention back to him. "Yeah?" "How would you help someone… in pain?" The girl frowned. Was he talking about himself? Or someone else? These days he could literally be talking about anyone. "Uhm... Well, it would.. depend if it's physical of mental pain." She stopped to thing about what to say next. The way she would react would be drastically different depending on the situation. "If it's physical pain, I would call Romeo, or an adult. If it's mental pain... depending on how well I know the person I would ask if they want to talk about it, ask if they want me to do something, to help..." She could see Val and Nikolai in her peripheral vision, and she was starting to think that Hans was talking about the younger one - they were really close. "Who... Can I ask who you are talking about?" ❅
