Katrina could not believe it, a practical history of magic class? She didn’t enjoy History of Magic as much as some of her other classes, but it was still better than muggle school. She would much rather be learning charms than listening and taking notes during a lecture. She couldn’t wait!

Katrina stood practically staring down the broken glasses. There was a small fracture on the bridge and the left glass was shattered. She would have to say the words with determination and the right emphasis: “OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh,” simultaneously touching her wand to the glasses to complete the charm. Upon finishing the charm, the glasses would, in fact, repair themselves.

Katrina stood and recited the words repeatedly in her head. OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh, OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh, She always struggled with emphasis, but was determined now to do her best the first time. She tested the wand movement, worried that she would make a fool herself if she did that part wrong.

Katrina cleared her throat and spoke “OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh.” She touched her chestnut wand to the glasses but knew it wouldn’t work—her voice had failed her. The glasses continued to stare blankly at her, not changed at all.

The Gryffindor had felt so sure she could do it on the first try. Now crestfallen, the girl stared wistfully at other students doing just fine. She mustered her courage and tried again.

“ OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh!” She spoke with fierce determination and tapped the wand to the glasses. Katrina hoped she had done it right this time. She watched as the glasses menses themselves together.
Professor Edit: Seeing the distraught look on one of his Gryffindor student's face, Zahid quickly made his way over but Katrina caught herself and tried the spell again. Giving her a slight encouraging smile, he praised "Good work, Miss Walker." as the glasses on her desk mended themselves.

Learning new spells was always fun. Better than staring at monotonous textbooks. Andrew's eyes were one of those that lit up with excitement in the classroom full of students, as Professor Zahid went on to explain the spell they would be performing. Not that Andrew knew whether the Eyeglass Repair Charm would ever come in handy for him, since he didn't wear glasses (well, his parents wore glasses, but they were both Muggles and he wasn't exactly supposed to be doing magic outside of school, so really, what were the odds of him using the spell at all? Except maybe for some of his classmates that wore glasses…) but anyways -- Andrew shook off the wandering thought, focusing on the Professor's instruction. Every detail of the lesson, he wanted to make sure he absorbed. Thus far, he seemed to do better at hands-on practicals than written ones, but he wasn't going to get his hopes up that he'd nail this spell the first time.

"OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh." Andrew repeated aloud, familiarizing himself with the pronunciation of the words. He sat at his desk, wand placed on his lap, glancing occasionally at the other students around the room and how they fared with practicing the spell, and taking mental note of their wand movements and enunciations. Sure, he felt the pressure to succeed on the first try, but Andrew had to remind himself that all practice was good practice. Even a failed attempt was still practice. And the more practice, the better. Generally.

"OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh," he said for the fifth time. One thing he didn’t want to stress himself out too much over was perfectionism on the first try, repeating the same incantation over and over again, like some of his other classmates would do for twenty minutes straight. Obsession with perfectionism would only shake his confidence, at least for him. And Magic wouldn’t obey if his mind was uncertain. Better to just shrug off the doubt and have a go. Usually it yielded better results than he expected. He was pretty sure that his enunciation matched the Professor's version, but there was only one way to find out…

Alright Magic. Let's fix some glasses. Turning his focus to the pair of crumpled black sunglasses laid out on his desk, Andrew revved up his energy and enthusiasm, concentrating it through the shaft of chestnut-red wood that he gripped in his hand. Raising his wand, he placed the tip against the cracked lens rim, tapping it lightly.

"Oculus Reparo," he commanded, bidding the glasses spring back to life as he envisioned.

With a tiny whisk of air and a faint snap, the glasses clicked back whole together, repairing themselves almost instantly.

Hot dog! Andrew's mind jumped for joy as he set his wand aside. For kicks, he picked up the glasses and tried them on. Just to make sure they really were mended. Sure enough, peering around the room, Andrew could see through the lenses clearly, albeit a bit dark, since they were supposed to be for outdoorsy sun purposes.

Now came the really fun part. Andrew removed the glasses from his face, folding them neatly before setting them down on the floor, at his feet.

When the Professor said for them to break the glasses, he did mean they were free to break them in any way they wanted too, right?

Oh well. Andrew gave a short hop into the air, delivering a good hard stomp as he crushed the glasses beneath his shoes. Then a second. And a third stomp. Okay, maybe it was a little bit excessive, but for some reason, it just seemed satisfying to do so. Exhilarating. And a good stress reliever.

He wasn't going to risk cutting himself or waste time by picking up the tiny pieces to place on his desk. Instead, Andrew squatted down and tapped his wand to the shattered glass frame.

"Oculus Reparo."

The reaction was a tad bit delayed, considering how pulverized the glasses were, but soon all the itty bitty pieces came together and fixed themselves back into place, renewing the glasses into perfect shape. Satisfied, Andrew picked up the glasses from the floor and waited for the Professor to review his handiwork.
Professor Edit: Blinking in surprise Zahid watched in amusement as one of his students had fun jumping on his glasses. Well, that was certainly one way to re-break them. He was about to stop him - as fun as it looked it might distract the other students - but Andrew was already finished and put the pieces back to mend them again.

"Good work, Mr. Vance."

While History of Magic was considered one of the more boring subjects to some, it happened to be one of Tatiana's favorites. Growing up in a muggle school with no knowledge of magic had left gaps in her overall understanding of the wizarding world, of which she was eager to fill. In primary school, she'd had to listen to her history teachers drone on and on about which countries went to war with each other and when, usually instigated by petty muggle squabbles. But in her history class at Hogwarts, she got to learn about topics such as gargoyles, of which she was elated to learn were sentient beings who had once fought against the cruelty of some masters.

So when Tatiana heard that her professor was going beyond teaching them significant dates and events by offering up some extracurricular classes to learn practical spells as well, she jumped at the opportunity. And while the spells may not be as exciting as the ones they learned in say, Charms or Defense of the Dark Arts, she was just as hungry to learn more about the sorts of magic she could use to make her everyday life a bit easier. And with gracefulness being one of her weaker characteristics, an eyeglass repair charm was something she was certain she would have a need for in the future.

As Professor Zahid had instructed, Tatiana placed her wand on the table and practiced saying the incantation correctly a few time. "OCK- you- liss reh- PAH- roh," she said, awkwardly pausing between each individual syllable. "OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh," she said once more, trying to string the syllables together as quickly and fluidly as she could. After a few more times, both with and without pausing to enunciate, she felt confident she was pronouncing the words correctly and picked up her wand again. Thankfully, the words were all that really required practice, as this spell didn't have any sort of particular wand movements- just point, tap, and speak to cast.

Tatiana grabbed one of the broken pairs of sunglasses from the box provided and set them on the table in front of her. Making sure to concentrate, she held her wand firmly in her hand and gently tapped the top of the glasses with it. "Oculus Reparo!" She drew back and watched in childlike wonder as the two halves seamlessly brought themselves together. It had been so easy the first time, she was excited to try again. Pressing her thumbs against the bridge, she pushed on them until they snapped in half. Setting the pieces next to each other, she gave it another go. "Oculus Reparo!" And with a quick tap of her wand, the two broken pieces brought themselves together just as flawlessly as the first time. Proud of herself and beaming, she stepped back and clasped her hands together in front of her as she waited for the professor to make his way over to her table.
Professor Edit: It was always nice to see students that were happy about having learned something, after all, making sure they learned something was his vocation.

Stopping next the Ravenclaw girl's table, he watched as she broke and repaired the glasses again. "Well done, Miss Crane." Smiling he moved on to the next student.

Once again Shauna walked into yet another very active lesson of History of Magic; she knew that she shouldn't get used to classes like this from this particular class but honestly she couldn't help but want more. However she put all thoughts of such aside and paid attention to the lesson at hand. The professor referred to the broken glasses on their desks; he said that they protect your eyes from the sun. Wow she felt like she's been living under a rock; she had no idea there was things like these. She knew her life was rather limited but this was insane; she shook her head to rid her mind of these distracting thoughts so she could take notes.

Of course there wasn't much in which to take notes on but still all in all she took the notes she needed. Note taking helps her learn and kept her mind from getting distracted; her notes read as follows:

Spell Name: Eye-Glass Repair Charm
Incantation: Oculus Reparo
Pronunciation: OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh
Wand movement: Tap glasses with your wand
Effect: Repairs any pair of glasses

Just as she had gotten done taking her notes the professor had told us to practice on the glasses as much as we like. She knew that it was probably not possible but she would LOVE to be able to take these sunglasses with her. It didn't take her long to notice that everyone else around her was practicing the spell; some succeeding almost right away while others…not so much. This alone made her feel better; now she didn't have to worry about being utterly perfect.

She looked over the broken glasses in front of her; these one's in particular were totally adorable pink sunglasses with a bow and…are those whiskers?

She chuckled a bit looking at the glasses now she knew that she had to have these glasses because dang they are adorable. She gently closed her eyes and took a deep breath with a quick once over of the glasses once more she noticed they were broken in between the nose and on both arms. This helped her to set her intent; she clearly visualized the glasses being and looking brand new speaking the incantation clearly "Oculus Reparo" making sure she did well to enunciate properly OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh all the while gently tapping the glasses with her wand.

She really hoped it worked because she really wanted these glasses if it did she's be the bold bunny and ask the professor "Pardon me Professor would it be possible for me to have these? They are adorable."

Professor Edit: ”Good work, Miss Starr.” Zahid nodded at her, before shaking his head in regret – he could hardly just hand out sun glasses to students or if he did, he would have to let all of them keep theirs. ”Sadly, no. But such glasses are not so rare and should be quite easy to find in non-magical London, for example.”

Extra-curricular lessons. Amidst her existing studies and endless efforts to try to make up for the last eleven lost years in the muggle world, did she have time for them? No, not really. As soon as the professor had mentioned that there could be a practical component to their History of Magic classes, however, Evelynn had made up her mind without a shadow of a doubt that she would do everything within her power to make time. If there was one thing she was determined to do, it was to defeat the odds, overcome the initial massive struggle she had encountered, and excel in every area of study that this school had to offer.

Arriving at the class amidst several first-year Gryffindor fellows. She peeked into the class. Everything seemed normal. The desks were aligned as they usually were, but there was little by means of props or notes upon the board, or anything else for that matter to hint at what would be covered today. Then she noticed the sunglasses. Her thoughts roamed in its attempt to guess at what may be in store.

Dueling, perhaps? Were they going to practice some sort of offensive flare, perhaps? But that would be best left to Defense Against the Dark Arts, she was sure. What could be related to History of Magic, though? Something related to the mind, maybe? It would be interesting, Evelynn thought, if there was some way to read thought. Or perhaps to visualize a surface thought so as to get a better picture of an explanation for more accurate chronicling when interviewing a primary source. But then, why the glasses? Maybe something related to the Gargoyle strike? Or something else used by the Ministry to defeat them?

The more she speculated, the more abstract and ridiculous the ideas. And where was the professor? Brows knit together as Evelynn made her way to her typical seat and looked around only to realize his absence. Glancing around, many of the other students, based on their quizzical expressions, seemed to be wondering the same thing.

And then he entered, with a slight smile and a swagger. Evelynn could feel herself blushing, and willed it to stop. Ever since their first lesson, she had developed something of a crush on History of Magic professor. Which was a shame, really, since it was far from her favourite subject. He turned to lean on his desk, addressing the class. Evelynn leaned forward, placed her elbows on her desk and framed her face in her palms. And scowled. She hated that stupid fluttering feeling. In an attempt to clear her mind, she dropped her gaze to the sunglasses resting innocuously on her desk and listened to his preamble.

OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh… She answered silently before the Slytherin had even been called upon. Coincidentally, she knew this one very well, having done additional reading and research after the first Charm's lesson. In a way, she felt somewhat disappointed. She'd hoped today would be something exciting. Something fresh. Something new. At least it would be easy, she supposed.

When finally they were given the go ahead, Evelynn grabbed her wand. "Oculus reparo," she uttered calmly, tapping the sunglasses with her wand.

It was so dull, her tone, and the movement of her wand almost lazy. Yet, there it went, the tape stripping off and the cracks in the lenses disappearing right before her eyes. How many times had she practiced this in the last month? It was the first spell she had actually cast successfully, truth be told, and it had become something second-nature as a result. Shifting her weight, she leaned her cheek more heavily into the palm of her non-dominant hand. Without even dropping her wand she hovered the fist above the glasses. With a wrinkle of her nose, she brought it down. Hard.

Crack! The frame of the glasses snapped on one side, the lens popping out to clatter across the desk's surface. She dipped to grab deftly at the hard plastic before is skittered to the floor, and very nearly jumped out of her skin when she realized how close the professor was during his rounds of checking on the students.

"Sorry, professor…" she murmured, hastily retreating. Skin glowing red once again, but this time easily mistaken as embarrassment, Evelynn piled the bits in the center of the desk, tapped the frame sharply with her wand and once again uttered, "Oculus reparo."
Professor Edit: It seemed some students would always find History of Magic boring, no matter what was taught. (Maybe it was the classroom?) Truly, learning the Eyeglass Repair Charm was probably also not the most exciting of lessons, but he had not expected to see one of his students half-asleep in one of the more practical lessons.

At least the Gryffindor seemed to jerk awake again once she realized he was currently checking the spell work of a student two seats over. After correcting the boy's wandmovement ( “You only need to tap your glasses, not stab them.””) he moved down the line. Nodding to the Gryffindor “Well done, Miss Decipio.” he then turned to the girl next to her to remind her to properly enunciate the incantation.

It is a no brainer that Cassie picks hand-on learning over theoretical any given day. When some of their House mates mentioning that Professor Zahid teaches an extracurricular class and they will learn a new spell or two, Cassie get up from the sofa that they lounge at in their Common Room.

In instant Cassie got out from their Common Room and towards where History of Magic class located. It suppose to be an easy trip. Just two stories up and Cassie supposedly already arrived at their destination. But no, for the umpteenth time Cassie got lost because of the ever changing stairs.

When they finally arrived outside of the classroom door, Cassie abruptly open the door. "Sorry, professor. I am late"Cassie said to Professor Zahid just in time to listen one of their house mate saying the incantation for what the spell that Professor Zahid will teach. Then Professor Zahid tell the class what the pronunciation.

"OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh" is what Professsor Zahid said to the class. Cassie knitted their eyebrows because they arrived at the class already halfway through. Then Cassie looked down at the table where the broken sunglasses at. There's cracks here and there were taped in multiple places to bind the sunglasses.

Oh so today lesson is how to repair a glasses, Cassie thought internally. Professor Zahid then pick up the said sunglasses, holding it on his right hand, tapped the sunglasses and said the incantation for the eyeglass repair charm. Cassie then follow what Professor Zahid said. Cassie place their wand on the table and practice the pronunciation.

"OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh"Cassie stated with their thick Spanish accent for several times. When it comes to saying things in Latin, sometimes their accent could get in the way. After two or three time Cassie said the pronunciation and it did not sound weird in their ears, Cassie picked up their wand and hold in on their left hand.

Taking a deep breath and concentrate. "Oculus Reparo!"Express Cassie tapping the broken sunglasses. "Ha!"Cassie stated excitedly when the sunglasses repaired then smirks. No more cracks and tapes on it. The sunglasses looks like it never been broken before on the first place.
Professor Edit: After taking some points from the Slytherin for being late, Zahid returned to the lesson.

When it came to making his rounds while the students practised, he made no more mention of her tardiness and simply oberved as she repaired her glasses. “Well done, Miss Ironwoods.”

Percival glanced towards a pair of beaten up glasses. The boy struggled to keep his eyes focused on the Professor during his life. It was no secret that the boy disliked sitting and listening to someone talk. Though for once in his life, Percival made sure to keep his mind focused on Professor Zahid. It did help that eventually they would get a turn to try out the spell. He always enjoyed being able to put spells to their intended use.

It wasn't every day you get to learn how to fix a pair of glasses. Though, Percival wasn't sure how helpful it was to him. Seeing how the boy had never worn glasses in his life.

Percival sighed before pulling out his wand. He hoped that the spell would not prove too difficult to do. It looked fairly easy enough, and he did not want to embarrass himself in front of the other students.

The boy cleared his throat before trying out the pronunciation. 'OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh' he started with a small frown. His tongue fumbled over the words in a slow-motion as he tried to memorize it. 'OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh' he said one more time before nodding.

After he thought he had the spell down he turned to the glasses. Percival loudly proclaimed "Oculus Reparo!" before tapping the glasses gently.

The boy quickly turned to look at the Professor eager to hear what he had to say.
Professor Edit: Zahid gave the boy a nod as he turned toward him. “Well done, Mr. Rainwood. Go ahead and break the glasses again to practice some more.” He gave a slight encouraging smile. After all, a success was a good thing but practice could turn one success in a sure success in the future.

Willow had become quite taken with the extracurricular spell classes that were offered. It let her take her wizard journey into her own hands and she found herself being even more excited to learn the spells because of it. While Willow didn't wear spectacles herself, she figured it would be a handy dandy spell to learn in the future in case any of her friends ended up breaking their glasses. She sat down at a desk and fiddled with the purple sunglasses in front of her, obviously broken. Snapped clean in the middle. She jokingly put them broken, balanced on her face before the Professor started teaching in which she promptly returned them to her desk to focus.

It seemed like a fairly simple spell, with an especially easy wand movement that made sense. She laid her head resting on her arm onto her desk. Her fingers moving the glasses around her desk as she practiced the incantation. "OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-rohhhh" She dragged out the last word lazily. Her voice shifted into many different accents, some nonexistent as she practiced it a few more times. "OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-rohhhh, OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-rohhhh, OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-rohhhh." Feeling satisfied with her future career possibility in voice acting and her pronunciation she lifted up her head and twirled her wand in her hand.

She moved the spectacle pieces closer together to maybe increase the success rate of the spell, because that's definitely how it worked. She took a deep breath, "Oculus Reparo!" For someone on the Quidditch team, her aim at the classes missed and her wand tapped between the glasses rather than actually on them. With a small giggle at her silly mistake she recentered herself to try again. "Oculus Reparo!" This time with a gentle tap on the glasses, they shook and moved together to repair at the center. Willow nodded satisfactorily, before reaching out and snapping the sides of the glasses off to try again.

Professor Edit: He was glad to see that the Hufflepuff didn't let herself be discouraged by such a simple mistake and even found some amusement in her mishap before trying again. Always a good mindset to have.

Her second attempt was a success and the glasses repaired themselves. “Well done, Miss Anderson.”

Seeing a bunch of cheap gas station sunglasses in Hogwarts felt anachronistic to Elspeth. Obviously magic users also needed to protect their eyes from the sun, but seeing the cheap plastic set in such an auspicious location almost felt comical to her. She half expected Professor Zahid to be wearing board shorts and texting. A small giggle escaped from her at the image, and she tried to stifle it as he walked in dressed as normal.

As the professor began to talk about the lesson, Elspeth realized that someone had to have gone out of their way to break all those glasses. Was it him? Maybe they'd done really poorly on some homework recently and he needed something to take it out on. Ah man... I hope my assignment wasn't the one that set him off, goodness. She kidded herself, though. Professor Zahid was an incredibly upstanding type of teacher and didn't seem the sort to hulk out in his office after hours on defenceless mall kiosk tchotchke.

Looking around it became clear that students from pureblood magical families were a bit confused at the introduction of the glasses. Maybe magical kind didn't need sunglasses after all? Having a muggle father meant little things like this weren't a complete surprise to her. He'd always had this pair of large aviator glasses that made him look like a complete goofball. One time, he had been driving her to a park with them on, and she'd been sitting in the back seat. He turned around with the cheesiest grin and given her some finger guns. She laughed so hard she shot the milkshake she'd been drinking out of her nose. Her mom made him scrub the car by hand, refusing to clean up the results of his own chicanery.

Elspeth had lost focus for a moment, sucked into the memory of that summer. Professor Zahid was explaining the invocation now, so thankfully she hadn't missed the important part of the lecture. Spells that required minimal wandwork were a blessing. Elspeth had come a long way since the beginning of the year, when she was a huge klutz and managed to find new and exciting ways to whip her wand around incoherently. But she would still heave a sigh of relief every time she encountered a spell that merely required the caster to aim at their target. One less thing to have to memorize...

The practical part of class began and she stared at the cheap sunglasses on her desk. One of the lenses had popped out, the bridge had been snapped, and she was fairly certain that the little arms on the side were crooked. These had been right properly messed up. Hm, right. Okay. You've got this.

"Oculus reparo. ock-you-luss reh-pah-roh. Ock-you-luss reh-pah-roh. OCKYOULUSSSSSSS," she always felt a bit silly repeating the incantation over and over again, the word sounding more and more like garbled nonsense with each repetition. "ock ock ock ock. you you you you you. luuuuuuussss."

A student nearby gave her a confused glance and she clammed up, coughing a bit to try and cover up her weird vocal ticks. Without a wand movement to prepare, this was going to be simple enough. She picked her wand up off of the table and pointed it toward the glasses. "Okay. You've got this. It's gonna be great," she cleared her throat, "Ock-you-luss reh-pah-roh!"

Nothing happened. The glasses sat there, still very much destroyed and unwearable. Maybe she hadn't been concentrating hard enough? Taking her wand back in her hand she pointed it toward the glasses again. Quiet inhale. Focus on the glasses. "Ock-you-luss reh-pah-roh."

Still, nothing. Her cheeks felt hot and flush, as she could see other students fixing, smashing, and repairing their glasses at desks just beside hers. What had she been doing wrong? There was a Gryffindor sitting next to her who was practically running laps fixing, smashing, fixing, and smashing again. I think they're just in this for the chance to smash them... she thought. But the more she listened the more she realized her mistake.

"Ock-you-LISS reh-pah-roh," they said, their sunglasses reforming into a whole pair again.

Liss! Not luss! She smacked herself in the forehead. This is what happens when she daydreamed in class, always missing the most important parts of lessons. Turning slightly, she faced the glasses again. This time, she was prepared. Wand pointed toward the snapped bridge she cleared her throat again and tapped her wand tip to the glasses, "OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh."

Professor Edit: Walking through the rows, Zahid congratualed some on their success, corrected mistakes for others but noted that most of the students were quite enthusiastic in their task which is why he was surprised when he spotted a Ravenclaw that seemed more interested in watching her neighbours efforts than putting in her own.

However, as he walked closer to inquire if there was a problem that prevented her from participating in the lesson, the Ravenclaw seemed too have an AHA!-moment as she smacked herself in the head before she turned to her glasses to repair them. He hoped she didn't make a habit of that action in the wake of a realistion, but she would neither be the first nor the last.

Still, she succeeded in repairing her glasses and so he merely gave her the same nod and "Well done, Miss Gollens." that most of his students received.

As the History of Magic and History in general were Jack's absolute favorite subjects, he had always had more trouble attempting to maintain his slacker reputation in Zahid al-Benghazi ibn Masoud's class. This was especially difficult when History seemed to be many other students' least favorite subject, so his enthusiasm, though restrained, still tended to stand out in blatant contrast to his classmates' disinterest.

Zahid al-Benghazi ibn Masoud - or 'Professor Zahid', as he had told his students he preferred to be called due to the different naming conventions regarding his place of origin - seemed to be a patient man. Like Jack, he also seemed unsure as to why some students were expected to learn some spells in their History of Magic class rather than Charms. The Scouring Charm, for example, was a lesson taught not by Professor Vernatis, but Professor Zahid, though neither really seemed to be able to provide a reason as to why.

Jack had assumed it supposedly had to do with how certain spells fit in to certain lesson plans tied to history. With some spells they were meant to learn, however, this did not seem to be the case. Thus, as he often did with his other classes, the redheaded Slytherin boy decided to look into the history of the spell and the etymology of the incantation prior to the actual lesson taking place. As it so happened, his father actually wore glasses of his own and broke them from time to time, so it was a simple matter to owl home and request to be given whatever pairs might have been...well, in need of repair.

While he waited for his request to be fulfilled, the first year read up on the history of the spell. Since he couldn't really find much on the very specific Eyeglass Repair Charm, he resorted instead to reviewing the history of its more general version which was simply known as the Mending Charm or, as he preferred to call it, the Repairing Charm. This was his preferred name for it because the Eyeglass Repair Charm seemed to be a variant of the Repairing Charm and the two shared the same base incantation of 'reparo', so it made it easier not only to remember the incantations but the fact that the two were related to one another.

What he found to be more puzzling, however, was the literal translation of the Latin incantation. As with the general Repairing Charm, the term 'reparo' was derived from the singular first person conjugation of the Latin verb 'reparare' which translated to 'to renew' or 'to revive' in English. The Latin word 'oculus', on the other hand, literally translated to 'eye', meaning that the incantation's literal English translation was 'I repair the eye' or 'I renew the eye'.

Not only did this grammatically lack sense, but it seemed to be logically and literally lacking sense as well. If the spell was meant to repair eyeglasses, why did it refer to a singular eye of a person? Was it possible to repair one's eye with the same incantation, or was there something different for that if anything at all?

Jack would have liked to look into the matter more, as well as maybe experiment a bit, but he had neither the time nor the resources to do so. He also dreaded to think what could have happened if he somehow managed to incorrectly perform the spell on someone's actual eye and it permanently worsened or destroyed their ability to see.

Shuddering at the idea, he quickly shoved it aside before noting in an article that there were supposedly various textbooks containing instructions for the Repairing Charm. Aside from The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1 by the famous Miranda Goshawk, there also seemed to be a spellbook entirely dedicated to teaching it. Jack wondered idly if it included variants such as the Eyeglass Repair Charm and others, as well as if it explained why said variants had been invented or were required or used at all.

He presumed said variants may have been more easy or simple to learn than the general, 'reparo', but as that spell in itself was simple enough to have been one of the two taught in their first Charms class, Jack wasn't sure what that would have mattered.

Once he thought he had read enough to be confident in his knowledge of the charm, Jack took a set of his father's broken glasses, pointed at it with his wand, and said, "Oculus Reparo." Initially, nothing happened, but then he re-read the steps and realized what he had done wrong.

Like the general Repairing Charm, the wand wasn't meant to produce any light when performing the spell. However, the Eyeglass Repair Charm did not require the same spiral wand movement that the the general Repairing Charm did. Instead, one simply had to lightly tap said glasses with one's wand after speaking the incantation. Astonished at the simplicity of it, Jack thought he might have discovered just why this charm might have been preferred over the general 'reparo'. It seemed to save both time and trouble.

"Oculus Reparo," he spoke again, lightly tapping the frame of his father's glasses as he did so. The pair immediately restored itself, causing Jack to laugh in astonishment and delight. He enjoyed practicing it so much that he quickly finished fixing his father's other four pairs before returning them by owl to his parents in the muggle world and preparing for the actual lesson in the History of Magic.

Though Jack smiled when Professor Zahid walked by, he continued to rest his chin atop a small stack of history books he had brought with him to class, staring idly at the sunglasses he had been presented with specifically for the occasion. The boy casually prodded at them with his wand, pushing them across his desk this way and that, as if bored. Waiting for just the right moment when no one else seemed to be watching him, a large grin split his face and he poked the wand at the shades one more time, whispering something under his breath.

"Oculus Reparo."

Professor Edit: Maybe it was nervousness, maybe simply bad luck but for whatever reason, it seemed that grinning boy stumbled over the incantation and while the crack in his test subject started to repair itself, it stopped halfway. “Careful which syllable you put stress on. The correct pronunciation is OCK-you-liss reh-PAH-roh.”, Zahid encouraged the boy to give it another try.
Oculus Reparo not learned

As you did not include the proper pronunciation of the spell, you did not learn it.
You can still learn the spell by making a new post writing how you try again - just make sure to include both the wandmovement and the pronunciation this time.
