Group One: Tricks, Treats and Tales
@Oliver Armani, @Martyr Daeva-Lazarus, @Novalie Moon, @Yolanda Yates
This is a group thread for the errand, Tricks, Treats and Tales. Feel free to reference the errand page for any information, and feel free to owl me if you have any questions.
It was the 30th of October, and all throughout the grounds, small fire pits sent smoke into the crisp autumn air. Each pit would have a small group of four to six students that got to socialise, have sweets, make s'mores, tell scary stories... really, whatever their hearts desired. If some of them came wearing a scary costume and others came wearing a bedsheet to be a ghost, the better for them.
Ingredients for s'mores (graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolates and skewers) were laid on a small table at each fire pit. Small logs provided seating for the students, larger logs for the older students and smaller logs for the younger ones. Multicoloured leaves, the warm shades of which could be seen in the firelight, dapped the floor with colours almost like a rug. The point of it all was to be cosy, to be fun, and perhaps a night full of colours and giggles and firelight would get the job done.
To ensure everyone remained safe, and if they did burn themselves, to provide a quick healing spell, Koko, a seventh-year prefect, stood off to the side in the shadows. She was not particularly well-hidden: her light-coloured hair reflected the light easily, making it so that even as she tried not to be a distraction from the event, if she was needed, she could be swiftly located. A silver mackerel tabby sat at her feet, content with the general atmosphere around him. She could only hope that the students would enjoy this, too.
OOC: What to do.
Write at least one post of your character being present at the event. Hopefully, they are enjoying things, but some teenagers are moody.
Your total word count (all posts combined) must be at least 600 words, but you can absolutely write more than one post, or more than 600 words. Please do remember to write at least 200 words per post per site rules!
Upon completion of your 600 posts, please provide your total word count and link your thread your sign-up post in the errand thread here.
Once again, I hope you have fun! Feel free to owl me if you have any questions at all.

Novalie had been counting down to this day with all her heart!!
Ever since she heard about the Halloween get-together, she had been practicing her Metamorphmagus abilities relentlessly, hoping to transform into a full-fledged zombie, a bloodthirsty vampire or something somewhat creepy. However, controlling her powers wasn’t easy. Every day the redhead struggled, her attention disappearing into Nirwana the second a fly buzzed by - making it impossible to keep more than a few details of her altered appearance intact.
Whenever she tried to give herself sharp teeth, bloodshot eyes, pale skin and long black hair all at once, something always faded. One minute she'd have the perfect vampire fangs, but the next, her pale skin would suddenly turn normal again. Even when she attempted more intricate features, like scars, they ended up looking strangely artificial, as if they were painted on rather than being part of her transformation.
It was seriously so frustrating..
Still, Novalie wasn’t the type to let this spoil the fun. She could always dress up like any other student, right?
Unfortunately though... she didn’t have the money to buy a proper costume.
Determined to look at least a little spooky, the girl decided to craft a mask - one stitched together with red, blood-like streaks painted on, which reminded her of a character from one of her brother’s favorite video games.
Dead... in the Light? In the Daylight? Yeah, something like that.
After getting some information from her brother, Novalie settled on 'Susie' as her inspiration.
Her outfit was simple: a pink plaid skirt paired with brown tights, a green hoodie, green shoes, and, of course, her mask. She'd even managed to poke small holes in it so she could see and changed her hair to match Susie’s - long, straight, pastel pink, tied into two low ponytails.
It wasn’t perfect, but it was enough to give her that eerie, unsettling vibe she was going for. Or at least, in her mind it did.
Now, Novalie stood amidst a sea of students, some decked out in incredible costumes, others seemingly dressed as... themselves. The crackling of the fire pits filled the air with that comforting, smoky scent she loved so much and she had already spotted piles of candy waiting to be devoured.
As the Ravenclaw drifted from group to group, chatting with her friends, who seemed to be enjoying the party, she briefly considered whether to stay with them or branch out to meet new people, like the extrovert she was. But that thought vanished the moment her eyes landed on a familiar figure sitting away from the crowd, hunched over as if reading a book or... writing something down?
Wait- WAS HE DOING HOMEWORK?!
Novalie's jaw dropped for a second. He was always so ambitious!
Then, a grin spread across her face as she pulled her mask up, resting it on top of her head. Taking a deep breath, she called out excitedly, “Oh hey, Ollie!”
Without hesitation, she darted over to him, bending down with a playful smile, her hair falling over his shoulder as she peeked at what he was doing.
“Wow, you really use every second to get smarter, huh? You’re so cool!”
Her admiration was genuine, but before Novalie gave him the option to respond, she already hopped over the log he was sitting on and plopped down beside him, invading his personal space as per usual.
“It is homework, isn’t it? Which one? Herbology? I’m pretty good at that, you know!”, she rambled, eyes flicking over his notes.
Then, as if suddenly realizing something, she paused, looking him up and down.
“Uhm, why aren’t you dressed up?”, she asked, tilting her head slightly to the side.

The night before Halloween, and the night before his birthday. A day away from twelve. Was Oliver excided? Sure, it was just another age though. He wished that he could spend it with his family at home though, It wouldn't have been anything to big. Just a small portion of the day where he got to go shopping in Hogsmeade to pick his own gifts, and a meal full of vegetarian dishes. It was simple, but Oliver loved it.
He had heard of this event through the grapevine, and decided that it couldn't be that bad. A night to relax by a campfire, enjoy some marshmallows. He was considering this his 'birthday celebration' of sorts. Almost like back home, but didn't have the same feel. He was a little worried, worried that it would be to cold, so he planed ahead and brough a jacket. Though was using it to sit on now. The fire was warming him up quite a lot.
Oliver had arrived early, and was the first one at the fire he choose. He hoped he was only lucky enough to stay that way. To better his odds of that, Oliver brought his homework. Because of course he did. Herbology to be exact, a subject turning out to be one of his favorites. He wasn't sure if it was the hand's on aspect, the subject material, or the (mostly) lack of spells and wand work. But Oliver loved it. Ever since his first class.
Sadly, it was hard to do with the lighting. The fire was giving some, so he could see well enough. Not as much as he liked. Oliver was a determined and quite stubborn fellow though; and would never let such a thing stop him from keeping on top of his classes. Though he was very much wishing he was better at casting, so he could at least attempt Lumos. It would be pointless to try though, so he simply had to deal with the fire light. Oliver would admit, it felt cozy having the natural light, to do homework for one of his favorite subjects.
Plenty of people seemed to have dressed up, he wasn't paying a lot of attention but he could see some of the more intricate ones out the corner of his eye. He had opted out of that of course, It was silly to do so. Dressing up for a simple campfire? Ridiculous. He dressed himself in pajamas, to save him the trouble of having to before bed. A stolen T-Shirt from his brother, the weird sisters, Aaron's favorite band. Oliver didn't mind them, but he found the shirt to be very coxy. As well as the plaid pants he was wearing as well.
It was quite peaceful, but peace couldn't last forever. He heard her before he saw her. Novalie Moon. A very chatty Ravenclaw from his History of Magic class. Who for some strange reason had the idea they were 'friends'. "Hello Novalie," He sarcastically greeted, with a slight eye roll. Not looking up from his homework. He darted his eyes over for a second, only long enough to spot her hair.
What was normally a red, seemingly vibrant as the fire, was now a pale almost pastel pink. He had to do a double take, did she dye it? He was a bit to distracted by the change to hear the complement. "Uh huh..." He absently agreed with her words. Something about Herbology, looking down at his work before darting back to her and her change of hair."Your hair, It-" Please don't let him regret this, "It looks nice." He complemented. It would be impolite not to, after he had stared at it for so long.
He did not think of Novalie as a friend, Perhaps something more akin to someone he had to deal with. As he could have just told her to bugger off. He just felt it was going on to long now with this whole friendly spheal to do that now. He could be nice, when he wanted to. And felt if he told her he had no interest in being friends it would hurt the poor girls feelings to much.
She drew his attention away from his homework, and away from her hair. Instead to his choice of clothing. He looked down at it with her and looked back up. Taking a better look at hers as he did so. So, she was one of the people that dressed up. That might explain the hair. Oliver thought that dying your hair for one costume was a bit much. He held his tongue. "I didn't see a reason to." He responded with a shrug. He didn't have to answer her if he was being honest. It wasn't really something she needed to know. Also wasn't something he had to keep secret.
"I would rather be comfortable in my pajamas then in a silly, itchy costume." He was sure to add on incase she would ask for further clarification, as to what he meant. Rather be to through then not enough. He used that policy for his homework to. Adding what might be to much detail at times. "I see you dressed up," Pointing out the obvious as he looked at her costume again. Wondering if she was cold in that. Didn't look super warm. "What exactly are you? If I may ask." He had no clue. Not even a guess.

Yolanda was nervous about her First Halloween and first Year at Hogwarts. The young girl still didn’t really know many people as of yet. It could get a bit lonely at the new school without her family. She tried to not worry so much about what they might be doing and focus on having fun by herself. The night was dark and spooky but the fires lit around everywhere brightened it up enough that she wasn’t afraid. Having an older guide and other students already sitting there made Yolanda feel more at ease.
She decided she would just go and have a good time. It was about the journey, so she might as well enjoy herself!
Yolanda went up and stood close to the fire. There were already two students chatting, one in pajama’s looking super comfortable, the other in some sort of cool costume. They both looked like they were having a nice conversation.
Standing by the fire she grabbed some smores that were laid out near the fire pit. She decided to go sit on a small log. There seemed to be big and small logs but since she was a First Year and indeed smaller than the others, she took the smaller one. It was really nice, warm and cozy.
Seeing an older girl – presumably assisting with the younger students– standing off to the side to make sure everyone was doing well – Yolanda gave a little wave. There was a silver mackerel tabby sitting there also who looked very interesting. This was going to be a cool night.
She wasn’t sure what to do so she decided to simply enjoy the fire and smores and try and relax.
She wondered if there would be any ghost stories or scary stories. Yolanda started trying to think of different scary scenarios. It was funny coming from a muggle family, because usually Yolanda’s Halloween stories were based around ghosts, witches, werewolves and lots of other things that she now knew were real! It kind of showed her that things weren’t scary but what people or things did was scary.
Maybe scary stories on a spooky night was too much for this first year – she was spooking herself out just thinking about it!
Yolanda wondered what she should get herself into. It was a fun night but she didn’t want to disturb anyone if they were already busy doing what they liked.
Sitting by the fire eating smores was fun. She decided to hum a bit to herself since everyone seemed busy.
She wished she’d brought her guitar from home. She would have to find a way to get it here or bring it with her next year because this would be the perfect time to practice a few camp-fire songs. Yolanda was certain some camp-fire songs would be fun! But she didn’t really know anyone so she didn’t want to be the First Year whipping out some silly kid tunes; although music was for all ages. Still Yolanda didn’t want to call attention to herself so she tried to hum away and have a great time.
Well – Yolanda thought – at least she was getting some fresh air and sitting outside looking out into the night sky. Warming up by the fire eating snacks while enjoying the night was so exciting.
Whistling night, wandering night, who goes there in the dim moon light. Spooky and fun, no time to run, hope it’s a halloween friight. Happy Halloween Night.
Yolanda was a tad bored on her own but she still was happy she came to enjoy the beautiful times; it was really nice.

Novalie’s smile grew wider when Oliver complimented her hair.
She twirled a pink strand around her fingers, of course taking it as an invitation to share the story behind it,
“Right? I think it turned out great too! It took me, like, hours to get it like this! Blonde or brown is way easier than pink, let me tell you. There were so many moments when I was really tempted to just dye it, because - that's crazy - you know what?”
The girl leaned in closer until her side was almost leaning against Oliver, looking directly into his blue eyes, “You won’t believe this! While I was practicing turning my hair pink, right? That boy with already pink hair suddenly burst into the room! Who even goes to the abandoned toilets? Anyway, his hair color was fading, so I helped him dye it. And, oh, I wanted to use that dye on myself, like, so bad! But I stayed stubborn and pulled it off without it. I’m really proud.”
Novalie glanced up at the starry sky and chuckled softly at the memory. Then, turning back to the Slytherin, she added, “But thanks! I’m glad you like it.”
When the conversation shifted back to costumes, she glanced at his pajamas, then down at her own outfit.
“Hmm… my costume isn’t itchy at all..”, Novalie said thoughtfully.
She opened her mouth, ready to suggest he borrow her skirt sometime, but paused when his next question interrupted her train of thought.
“ A yes, I’m supposed to be this horror character my brother told me about. I did my best to look like her.”, she explained.
Almost as if on cue with his thoughts, Novalie pressed herself closer against his side. If anyone saw them, they might think she was about to climb into his lap.
“Gosh, I didn’t think it’d be this cold! It looked warmer when I left the castle earlier.”
Her gaze shifted to the fire, sparking an idea, “Hey, should we make it bigger? We could combine all the fire pits into one huge one! It’ll keep everyone warm.”
The Ravenclaw grinned and pulled out her crooked, spiraled wand, already poised to cast a spell.
But before she could move, her attention was caught by another girl settling onto a small log nearby.
Novalie paused, wand still drawn though, and called out, “Oh hey! Are you cold too?”

This girl- she talked so much Oliver couldn't keep track of much of what she was saying. Blond or brown was- Was he hearing her right? Easier? Then pink? He guess that would make sense, with how fiery red her hair was. He'd never died his hair before. But if her hair was so red before, then dying it pink- She didn't dye it? "You didn't dye it?" He asked, not fully trusting his ears that he heard her right. If she had just been tempted to dye it, then she must have not dyed it. Oliver shifted a little so he was facing her more.
Weirdly enough, he was curious about this. Engaged in what she was saying. Was it some sort of spell she learned? He was about to ask what she had meant by that, when she got very, very close to him. Causing him to have to lean back at the invasion of his space. The unnecessary eye contact, Oliver never noticed how bright here eyes were. Her wording 'practicing turning'. It was leading Oliver to believe it to be some spell more and more.
Gosh she talked a lot. He was getting- most of it. Hoping to get more clues on the mystery of her hair. But all he got was hints on this other boys hair, someone with pink hair. His face shifted to one of almost slight disgust at the mention of the abandoned toilets. He'd avoided them the whole year. Just knowing deep down that they would be far from his standers. Most likely covered in dust and grime. If the abandoned toilets. If Novalie found herself spending time there, just yikes.
"How did you color it then if not dye?" He couldn't stop himself from asking. Almost instantly regretting. Knowing that damn well she may never stop. He thought it might be hard for her to not be stubborn but bit his tongue holding back the comment he might have made to any stranger. He could hear her chuckle, but didn't pay much mind to it. Oliver however could not roll his eyes at the thanks for the complement. "Yeah, yeah sure." He said dismissing and regretting the comment. Like he thought he would.
She again, started talking, about her costume. Novalie, all of her attire this night was interesting to him, Letting out a low hum at the explanation. He had no clue who she was. Still, at least had a hint. "I had no clue you had siblings." Starting to realize he didn't know much about her, despite all of her talking. He had no idea about her hobbies or what not. But assumed it included sleeping in trees. Recalling the brief words she'd said during there night adventure earlier that month.
Oliver tensed up at the press up. Way, way to close. As if she was trying to take up the same space as him. Physically imposable. She felt cold to, Oliver sighed and shook his head. He'd planned ahead. Brought a jacket. And dressed accordingly. "You can't judge the temperature based on looks." It was painfully obvious, at least to Oliver. Ever the logical thinker. He was about to scold her for not being prepared when he heard something that made his eyes widen.
No, no, no, and even more no's. "Absolutely not!" It had sounded like a question that she asked, so he answered very truthfully. Novalie, one day would be the death of him. Most of her ideas sounded like a disaster. Sneaking out at night, Now trying to blow up a fire and perhaps the whole school. He wouldn't be surprised. "That's- just.... No." Pointless to try and explain.
Then, another girl sat down on one of the other logs. She looked to be about the same height as him. And with brown hair. Novalie asked if she was cold to. He prayed to whatever god that she wasn't using his hand to guide her hand with her wand down, so it wasn't pointed at the fire anymore. He sighed, sighed very deeply. And got off the log just a little, to grab his jacket he'd been sitting on. Holding his hands to sit on the log with no barrier from his bottoms and the dirty log. Great.
"Ignore Novalie." He told the newcomer. Holding back a comment about him not thinking she thought at all before she spoke. If she had thoughts at all. "She's cold. I hope your not, I only have one jacket." He handed the gray jacket to Novalie. "Use this." Those words were directed to her. Did he really want to give it to her? Not a whole lot. But it was all for his greater good. If it would keep her from complaining, setting the grounds on fire, and from pressing against him. It would be no big issue.
His family could easily afford another one. And he himself was not that cold. He drew his attention to the other girl, looking her up and down. Silently judging her. Not much of a read, he had no idea what to think. Yet. For his sanity he hoped she was not as chatty as Novalie. "I'm Oliver, Oliver Armani," His words sounded almost bored, rehearsed. He'd inadvertently introduced Novalie, if the new girl didn't know her already. "And you would be?" He asked for her name.
