Private to @Luna Choi
Ruby was one of the first onto the train, claiming a compartment quickly. After she had her stuff properly tucked away and she got settled, she pulled out the letter she had received this morning. She opened it up from the ball that she had crumpled it into a few hours ago, and laid it on the table, smoothing it out. Her elbows rested on the table and her hands came up to massage her temples as she leaned forward, staring at the message from her father. Now that she had a while to think about it and she would have to face the problem soon anyway, she allowed herself to start analyzing the short note, poring over it.

She was looking for anything that would tell her more – hidden meanings behind the words, references to something, what her father's true intentions were, why her parents contacted her now after all this time. She had been a bit isolated from them before, yes. They were frequently away, working and traveling for it, leaving Ruby behind by herself or with her aunt and uncle. That was one of the reasons why she had become so close to three of her cousins, the boys who were basically her older brothers and her best friends. They had taught her so much, helped her to still have familial love, created memories with her, had fun and inside jokes and pure friendship. They also went to Hogwarts – in the upper years, yes, but they were still there and had met up with her several times – and they were two Gryffindors and a Ravenclaw.

Those were the two houses that Ruby's parents had been in, too, except she preferred her cousins by far. Ruby was used to the lack of time and contact with her parents, but at the beginning of the year, they had sent her letter upon letter, which had surprised Ruby. But, in one way or another, every letter was asking for the results of her sorting. They were so against house Slytherin that she hadn't wanted to reply. Why did it matter what house she was in? She was still their child. When she hadn't responded, they had started threatening her with Howlers and the like, so she had reluctantly sent a letter back with the truth. After that, silence. She hadn't heard anything from them since. Her aunt and uncle had brought her to their house over the holidays, but they wouldn't answer her questions about her parents, wouldn't talk about it. So, Ruby had managed to let it go. Until now.

She heard footsteps approaching outside and the glass door to the compartment slide open, so she frantically snatched the letter, crumpled it up so that it fit in her fist, sat up perfectly straight like she normally did, and turned to the door and whoever it was that had interrupted her, fighting to prevent herself from glaring at them. Her full air and appearance was intact by the time that she asked, “Can I help you?” Her tone was slightly cold and an eyebrow was raised, waiting for the intruder to defend themselves.

This day finally came. The day that she had waited for a long time. Luna even prepared for it a month before she had to go. What she had to do today was just taking her stuff to the train and choose a cabin where there was no one or maximum one person to sit. Also, reading some books in the day. She didn't want

It was pretty annoying that they were unable to use portkeys or fireplaces to teleport back home. It wouldn't take too long to arrive if those were allowed. There was basically nothing to do on the train unless you brought something, like candies to eat or books to read. However, what if they read all the books or eat all the candies? Read them and taste them all over again? She could do the first one, but obviously not the second. However, the books she brought today, she had already read them four times. The others? Seventh or eighth.

Holding the portkey, saying the password and going straight back to their house in a few seconds. That sounded really amazing, but she was sure it wouldn't come true. Both in the past or in the future. If using the Port-key would let people teleport back home or to Hogwarts, the person with the name You-Know-Who wouldn't have to attack the school from outside, and lost like that. Talked about that, she wondered if there were more books about him. She would be happy to read them all.

The most horrible thing that these people who made the rules could do, was that Ray had to spend time on this train as well. He hated crowds, and she could still remember how scared he was when she brought him to this train for the first time. After a while thinking, the only solution she found was letting him be in the same cabin where her pieces of stuff were at. Obviously, she had to put him in a cage so that he wouldn't be crushed. She was kind of worried about him to be fair.

To be fair, her cat was not the only one who hated crowds. Luna herself disliked those as well. Not to mention, she didn't like to try finding a cabin when everyone was also doing that. She knew her weakness, she was not strong enough to push everyone away. Also, the Slytherin Prefect disliked being late, so when there weren't too many people, she had already climbed up on the train to find a cabin.

From her experiment, she realized that choosing cabins that were near the doors was a bad idea. She hated being around too many people, so that was the worst idea she could think of this week. There were a bunch of lazy people, and they usually chose the cabins that were near the doors so that they didn't have to go too far. Based on Luna's logic, the cabin that she wanted to sit for more than two hours needed to be as far as the doors as possible.

Luna walked in the train to search for her dream cabin for a while. Finally, after five minutes, she found a cabin which totally fitted what she needed. Perfect.

However, she was wrong. There was actually someone in this cabin. A girl looked pretty familiar to her, but she didn't care about it. Based on the fact that Luna had no interested in people's looks at all, she quickly got carried away by another thing. That girl was being really suspicious. As soon as she went into this cabin, this Slytherin tried to hide something from her. Not that she cared though, it was none of her business anyway. She was not the type that could be curious about strangers' things. Not that she would care if they weren't strangers anyway. Not to mention, this girl didn't look like she wanted to share, more reason for her to ignore that.

Right after Luna was going to walk past this girl to take a seat, the Slytherin asked her if she needed help, but with a cold face. Seemed unfriendly indeed, but that made her felt more comfortable than usual. If that girl smiled nicely and tried to act nice to her, she wouldn't mind ignoring them.

Also, that was a stupid question. If she wasn't finding somewhere to sit, why on earth did she have to enter a cabin? "Obviously, you can not help me with anything." Luna calmly said, when she put her bag down on the seat. That one was opposite from the other girl's. "Mind your own business, if I may ask."

Just because I said you were bad does not mean that I am mean. It shows that I am honest.

Ruby had been fully prepared to spend the journey alone, in peace, and she would do so happily. It would have given her time to read and reflect, and to analyse the letter. But no. This girl had to interrupt her, to stalk into this compartment and ruin it. There were surely some other empty seats in other compartments around here. Couldn't she go to one of those instead? Anywhere but here. The girl put her bag down on the seat and Ruby knew that that was the point of no return. She was officially stuck with her new companion. Fighting the urge to groan or scowl, she stared at the girl emotionlessly. At least no other people had made their way here yet, she could possibly cope with just one person. Maybe she wouldn't be a talkative one.

She had said something though, and it actually made Ruby relax a little knowing she wouldn't have to pretend to be nice. She was much more comfortable around someone equally as cold as her. Nevertheless, she raised an eyebrow, her face otherwise blank. “You come into the compartment that I was in first and say that I should be the one minding my own business?” She clicked her tongue in disapproval but there was a spark in her eyes, a mirthful glimmer that showed that there were no real hard feelings.

Truthfully, she was more than pleased to have someone to poke at a little, and she got the sense that the girl in front of her wouldn't mind either—but she could be wrong. She might do the same back, or at least Ruby hoped that would be the case. She privately longed to make a friend who wasn't so… well, soft. Could this Slytherin be the one? Her first year had been very interesting. She had made friends, which was a bit of a novelty for her, and she had met all sorts of people, from relatively ordinary students to unusual ones with odd habits or rare, special abilities. She had even met some people that she could match wits with, which was something she definitely enjoyed. What was this housemate of hers like?
