Books and Bonks!

AngelFyre had been spending a lot of time in the Library when she had any spare time. She was a young woman on a mission (she generally was, so that was not anything new for her). This particular mission, however, involved her favorite subject at Hogwarts… one Simon Ezra Kincaid. She was tracking down any information that she could find on witch's marks or devil's marks since she and Simon had learned last spring that one of his Scottish Kincaid ancestors had been a Witch Pricker, and yes, it was exactly as vile as it sounded. However, it was just so macabre that she found herself wanting to know as much as she could about the history of the marks and why and how people thought they meant what they thought they meant.
As Hogwarts' acclaimed wizarding library was not a speedy place in which to do research, compared to the libraries in the Muggle world, her research often took her down rabbit holes. She had nothing against rabbit holes, per se, but a good Google search string could pretty much pinpoint the information sought in a matter of seconds or minutes at most. Still, some rabbit holes were interesting in and of themselves, but most offered little to nothing to her understanding on marks. This, so far, had been one of those less-fruitful-rabbit-hole-exploring sort of sessions. She had been sitting, alone, at one of the tables for about an hour now after the evening meal. Her concentration, like her books, was spread out messily before her and was anything but concentrated.
She and Simon were supposed to be meeting here for a snogging study session, but she knew he was probably caught up in something regarding his healer internship. She tapped her foot impatiently and looked up, scanning the library, hoping to see him making his way to her. No such luck. She was both irritated and disappointed, but not at him; only about their situation. They had not seen each other all summer, and they were not seeing much of each other even here at school. Growing up with growing responsibilities was hard.
She turned her disappointed gaze back to her parchment and the few references she had jotted down, intending to look them up. She rose from her spot, closing the heavy book before her. She gathered the other four up and quietly placed them on a trolley at the end of one the stacks closest to her for the school elves to shelve at their leisure. She looked down at her parchment and headed for the History of Magic section.
She wondered if Professor Lennox would be pleased to know that this section of the Library was getting so much attention lately? She scanned the shelves and determined she was on the wrong side of the stack, so she wandered down the aisle and turned a sharp 180 degrees looking at the books on the same shelf level, but from the other side of the stack. First on the list was Spellbinder's Guide by Mummford Web IV. That title sounded particularly vanilla, at best, but she had learned you could never judge a book by its name. Her long fingers grazed across brittle leather spines, trailing quite a bit behind her eyes which were darting up and down the different level of shelves when she finally spotted it. She took about two hurried steps and was reaching for the book when she sneezed unexpectedly.
As polite societal norms dictated, AngelFyre had turned her head into her arm to sneeze, but the force of the sneeze caused her arm and shoulder to slam into the books on the shelf level next to her. She knew the second contact was made that it was going to be a bit of a domino effect.
She was not wrong.
Her arm had pushed the books inward on the shelf which, in turn, pushed the books behind them violently off the shelf on the other side. It was a little noisy and AngelFyre was not certain, but she thought she heard a cry of pain or surprise (maybe both!) coming from the other side. She hurried back around the end of the stack and saw a young student, surrounded by the books, now on the floor, cupping her hands around a bleeding nose.
The girl was familiar to her as a new first year Hufflepuff, but AngelFyre had not made her acquaintance yet, though she did know her name from the dorm roster. Alice Wright.
"Oh, Heavens to Murgatroyd! I am so sorry. Here, if you will let me, I can stop the bleeding." And she could, but she would need the girl to move her hands away from her face and remain momentarily still.
"Alice. Your name is Alice, right?" she smiled reassuringly at the girl and spoke in as soothing a tone as she could. "Alice, I am AngelFyre, one of your House Prefects. I can cast a spell on your nose and make the pain and bleeding stop almost immediately, if you will permit me, but I will need you to move your hands away from your face so that I can get a clear look at your nose. Can you do that for me?"

Books and Bonks!
Alice needed something to read to pass the time, so she went to the library. When she entered, she was surprised, she had never seen so many people in a library. In her small town, no one, apart from her, usually visited this place, so it was always empty.
Plus, it was filled with shelves full of books of all kinds: charms, potions, defence against the dark arts and even novels.
For the girl, that was one of the best things about Hogwarts. She spent a lot of her time going from shelf to shelf, carrying numerous books with her. They all seemed so interesting and she wanted to read them so much…
“This seems like paradise” she thought, with a big smile on her face. But that smile didn't last long, because, after a loud sneeze was heard, some big, heavy books fell on her face.
“Ahh!” she screamed, partly from fear and partly from pain.
Instinctively, she touched her nose, which hurt a lot. She noticed a warm liquid when she did it: blood.
“Oh no, oh no!” she whispered to herself
She pressed her hands tightly against her nose to try to stop the bleeding, but she didn't. Then, she remembered a book she read in which a boy ended up dying from a nosebleed.
“Don't think about that now, Alice. It's stupid, it couldn't really happen. Remember, even you complained about this absurd ending” she thought to calm herself down.
But it didn't work, because she was getting more and more nervous. At that moment, she saw a girl approaching quickly. If she wasn't mistaken, that was the prefect of her house.
“Oh, Heavens to Murgatroyd! I am so sorry. Here, if you will leave me, I can stop the bleeding.” She said.
But she didn't, she was too nervous. Instead of that, she pressed stronger.
“Alice. Your name is Alice, right?” she smiled reassuringly at the girl and spoke with smoth tone. “Alice, I am AngelFyre, one of your House Prefects. I can cast a spell on your nose and make the pain and bleeding stop almost immediately, if you will allow me, but I will need you to move your hands away from your face so that I can get a clear look at your nose. Can you do that for me?”
She was more calm now, so she moved her hands.
“T-Thank you” he said with a small voice.

What was she thinking? Clearly walking up to the girl and randomly pronouncing that she could stop the bleeding, while giving her, literally, no more information than that was a little suspect. AngelFyre most definitely would not have let some random student perform magic on her unless she knew them; if not personally, at least by their reputation and what she had seen of their casting. Alice was scared and in pain but still showing pretty decent judgment in a bad situation. Good for her!
The tide of distrust seemed to turn once AngelFyre addressed Alice by her name and introduced herself. The saucer-eyed girl relaxed a little at that point and moved her hands away from her face, giving AngelFyre a clear view. She was not a healer, at least of people, so she had no true idea as to whether or not Alice's nose had been broken. It did not appear to be disjointed in any way or swelling abnormally, but she knew enough to know that looks could be deceiving. Whether broken or not, the bandaging spell would help both the bleeding and her pain while splinting the nose in case of a break. That would be a start.
"Okay, the good news is it does not appear to be broken, but even if it is, this spell will help with that until we can get you to the Hospital Wing to have it thoroughly checked out," and AngelFyre smiled at her reassuringly while snapping her wrist and releasing Godshall from its wand holster. "Be as still as you can. There is no light with this spell, but I will have to tap your nose with Godshall here," and she lifted her wand up so Alice would know what she was talking about and be less nervous about what was about to happen. "I promise to be gentle. Okay, get ready."
AngelFyre moved a little closer and incanted "Ferula!" as she gently tapped Alice's nose once on the side of the bridge of her nose. She knew she had been successful because the bleeding stopped almost immediately, but the fascinating part was watching the magic splint Alice's nose cleanly and neatly. It was almost like watching a speedier, but smoother, version of some of the stop motion creature features of the 1950s, which in turn made AngelFyre wonder if those special effects geniuses were not actually wizards themselves.
"There. All done. The bleeding has stopped and the pain should be a whole lot better, too, but I will need you to tell me if the latter is true not," and she smiled as she leaned back . "How do you feel?

Alice moved her hands from her face slowly, revealing a nose from which a waterfall of blood was coming out. Some drops reached the ground, creating a small puddle in front of the girl. Luckily, she was never afraid of blood or even felt disgusted by it, because that would have made the situation worse, and she would have possibly fainted.
The first-year student decided to entrust her nose to the prefect of her house. AngelFyre is older than her and therefore knows more spells than she does.
“I hope she is good at this spell thing, especially the healing ones” she thought, with a little worry.
AF turned his pretty eyes to her nose, inspecting it. He came to the conclusion that it didn’t look broken, but that they would look at it in the Hospital Wing.
“The school just started and I’m already going to have to go to the Hospital Wing. What a start… I just hope the next few months are better” Alice thought frustrated.
Time kept passing, and her nose was bleeding more and more, the pain was becoming more unbearable and her tiredness was increasing. Had she lost so much blood? Or was it something else? Of course, that was the least of the girl's worries at that moment, she just wanted her nose to go back to normal and go to bed.
The prefect raised her wand and at that moment closed her eyes, even though the spell she was going to perform did not produce light. She was surprised when, suddenly, she stopped noticing that hot, red liquid and the pain stopped. The problem was that she was still a bit tired and she had a headache. Maybe she should go eat something…
“There. All done. The bleeding has stopped and the pain should be a whole lot better, too, but I will need you to tell me if the latter is true not,” said AngelFyre and she smiled as she leaned back. “How do you feel?”
“I'm a little tired and my head hurts a little, but my nose feels fine, it doesn't hurt or bleed. Thank you.” said Alice with an attempt at a smile that didn't turn out too well.

When Alice reported that she was feeling tired and that her head hurt, AngelFyre was not surprised. Looking at the girl's clothing and at her hands, there was what appeared to be a lot of blood, but she had read someplace that the loss of blood from a nose bleed, even if from a broken nose, was not generally equal to the amount of blood given in a blood donation, but even so, AngelFyre held a healthy skepticism to what she read on the internet, so she did not want to take any chances. Simon was the one in the Healer internship, not her, so this was definitely outside of her wheelhouse. Still, she did have a temporary fix, of sorts, she thought.
"I am sure your head does hurt," she agreed sympathetically, and then turned to look at the 15 or so heavy books scattered all around them, wondering just how many of them had bonked the poor witch on her head and face. "I cannot begin to apologize enough to you. It was an accident, I assure you, but I am sure that is of little to no comfort to you right this moment. I do want you to visit the Hospital Wing so they can look at your nose, but that can wait a few minutes. Sit still and I will be right back." AngelFyre quickly stood and stepped to the side so that Alice would be able to see where she was pointing. "I am going to grab my satchel from that table just across the aisle at the end of this stack. I think I may have a couple of things to make you feel a little more comfortable until we can get you up and on your feet."
Alice gave a subtle nod and AngelFyre took off at a jaunty, speed-walk pace over to the table, grabbing her satchel, notebooks, and fleece cardigan. When she made it back to Alice in little less than a minute, the first thing she did was to place her cardigan over the injured Hufflepuff. "Here you go. This will help keep the chill away," she said The castle floors were anything but warm, and with a loss of blood, AngelFyre felt certain Alice was not likely feeling anything close to toasty in the moment. Tucking it gently under her chin and spreading it carefully and strategically over her shoulders and torso, AngelFyre then plopped back down where she had originally been and started rummaging through her satchel. The first thing she came to was her spare baggie of lemon drops that she always carried around in case Simon was ever running low. She snagged the top of that baggie between her middle and ring finger as she continued to look for others.
"Eureka!" she exclaimed enthusiastically, and grinned as she grabbed two other baggies. "I have never donated blood because I am still too young, but I have gone with my mother and father when they donated theirs. They always got a cookie and some fruit juice afterwards," she stated matter of factly. "Sadly, I do not have any juice to offer you, but I do have a fresh thermos of water and your choices of chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookies. If neither of those appeal to you, I also have a baggie of lemon drops," she offered happily as she held all three baggies up for Alice's inspection.
"What shall it be? And you are not limited to just one, so do not let that hinder your decision in any way."
