The boat tilted ever so slightly as Jay shuffled uncertainly down the hallway, belongings in his hands, and his already questionable footing seemed to lose track of itself, sending him sprawling unceremoniously into the wall with a dull thud. The considerably heavy suitcase held by his right hand was jostled free, and it decided to have a non-consensual meeting with his foot.
"Gah!" A yelp of pain escaped his mouth despite his attempts to muffle it, and he dropped the bag he held in his other hand to grasp at the offended foot, beginning to hop up and down on his other leg. He hadn't thought this through in the moment of drastic pain, and as soon as he began his ever so gracious hopping, the boat moved slightly again. That did it. While he supposed he would have had to meet the floor of the boat eventually, he would have preferred to arrange such a meeting on his own terms. His head said hello to the floor first, followed by the rest of his skinny self.
He just lay there for a few moments, numerous choice words passing through his mind as he searched for a fitting thing to say to this whole darn situation. Finally, he decided on the perfect one.
"Ouch," he said miserably, slapping his palms against the floorboards to push himself into a kneeling position before he found his feet again, placing a steadying hand on the wall as the other one rubbed the bump on his head.
He glanced around sheepishly, more relieved than he would like to admit that the hallway appeared to be abandoned. Heaving a sigh of relief, he retrieved his irresponsibly scattered things and continued, more cautiously this time.
He didn't have much farther to go before he spotted the door he had embarked on this treacherous journey to find.
He paused in front of the door, checking a note he had to ensure himself that this was, in fact, the cabin that he had been assigned to. Once satisfied, he set the large suitcase on the ground, using the freed hand to place three rapid knocks on the door. When nobody answered after a bit of waiting, he shrugged. Either nobody was inside, or he was to room with some rather unhelpful people.
He reached for the door handle and turned it, grateful to find that it wasn't locked, at least. Spending a night in the hallway, using his suitcase as a pillow didn't particularly seem like a "grand ole' time" to him.
As the door swung silently inward, he snatched his suitcase and strolled inside, only to find that the cabin was, in fact, abandoned. Glancing around, he saw no sign of life- no belongings of other people, no disturbed bed sheets. So he was to be king of his own solitude, then? How spectacular...
Four beds. Four choices. Why did it have to happen to him?
After several moments of truly pointless deliberation, he designated the top bunk on the right as a throne fit for a king of his own thoughts. Opening one of the four trunks in the room, he threw his smaller bag inside, opting to simply place the larger suitcase on top of the trunk for now. He would arrange his things later.
Moving to the small ladder that led to the top bunk, he scaled it and plopped his backside onto the bed, examining his home for the summer from a higher perspective.
"Beautiful kingdom," he said to absolutely no one in particular. "A land completely fit for its ruler."
He contemplated what to do. Twiddling his thumbs was certainly an option, though the wonders of such a pass-time had always escaped him.
Laying back, on top of the sheets, he placed his head on the pillow that was provided and decided that now was as good a time as any to experiment with said twiddling of his thumbs.

Maya dragged her large and way too heavy suitcase around the hallways of the boat where she would temporarily be staying before reaching the cabins, the boat swished and swayed over the waves below making the boat tilt Maya steadied her feet putting one foot in front of the other and put one hand on the wall to stop herself from tumbling over still clutching onto her suitcase tightly
Once the boat was moving a little less she started walking again there were so many long hallways each one of them looking the same as the last, Maya stopped in her tracks leaning her suitcase against the wall of the boat she reached in her pockets and pulled out a small piece of paper with a little note on it
She checked over the note a few more times remembering the cabin number before placing the note back in her robe pockets, she picked up her suitcase and started walking down the never ending series of hallways
After what felt like hours and multiple stumbles from the boat moving she had finally found the cabin she hoped it was the right one, she turned the doorknob and opened the door to see a group of girls stood around talking they all stopped as she walked in and stared at her, looking around Maya could see there were already four people in here she quickly took out her note again checking the room number and looking back the the door number realising she walked into the wrong room ”Sorry wrong room I’ll be leaving now” filled with embarrassment she turned around leaving the room shutting the door behind her
She walked past a few more doors and then she found her right room she double checked the note before opening the door, Maya placed her hand on the doorknob going to open the door when she heard mumbles of somebody talking inside she couldn’t quite hear what they were saying so she quietly opened the door and stood in the doorway
Maya held in a little laugh and walked in shutting the door behind her she was going to say something but after just feeling embarrassed herself she thought she would be nice ”Hello?” She said to the boy on the bed making sure he knew she was here she then walked over to the bunk beds on the right standing by the ladder

Nótt was impressed. The castle was truly grand, and even though she had already seen Diagon Alley and platform 9 3/4, Hogwarts was so far the most magnificent. Its towers and turrets came together in an oddly spaced assembly and all of it was perched upon the rock jutting from the dark lake. Nott really was impressed; she was just exhausted. Perhaps tomorrow she could better admire the castle.
Now she walked along a long, wooden bridge out over the lake to where a not-large-enough-for-a-lot-of-students boat was anchored. She was lugging her bag behind her, and it pulled on her arm. Nott was fit, but not the strongest of people. She had opted to pack all of her clothes, personal belongings, and a few school books that she might want to read (with of course three muggle books) all in the bag. Presumably the weight was mainly from the books. At the time it had seemed like a novel idea to get a start on learning if she had free time, and though she still believed in her decision, it would leave her with sore arm sockets tomorrow. Oh well. Perhaps she should do more push-ups or something.
The boards shifted a bit with her every step, and she fought to keep looking at the horizon rather than watching the boards and the water below. Not that she was scared of water, but the motion of a boat always takes her some time to get used to.
Finally she reached it and entered. The inside was much larger than the outside she could already tell. Of course, magic. Nott was a little annoyed with herself for not thinking of it earlier. Besides, she had watched Doctor Who sometimes; it was like the Tardis.
Reaching into her pocket, Nott pulled out a slip of paper, checking which room she was to enter. Just as she started forward, the boat swayed. She staggered sideways, the momentum of the bag throwing her off balance and causing her to bump into the wall. These boats! Sighing, Nott started forward again.
The passageway was long and narrow and littered with many doors to what Nott assumed to be camp dorm accommodation. Finally, she found the correct door and, after double checking with her slip of paper, opened the door.
Already two other people had arrived. The room was not very large. There was enough room for two bunk beds, space for luggage, and people to move. The bunk on the top right seemed to have been claimed since a skinny boy with thick black hair which hung into his eyes was perched there and a girl with long, blond hair and fair skin was standing at the ladder of the same bunk bed. They seemed to have already begun speaking to each other.
Nott walked to the lowed bed on the left side to claim it, placing her bag and taking one of the trunks provided in the room. Unpacking her bag, she began organizing the clothes and books onto the bed while waiting for a good moment to speak.
"Hello," Nott said as she turned to face the others. "Nott Dauhlberg. Who are you?"

"Hello."
Jay jumped, the knuckles of one hand flying into the wall next to the bunk as he jerked into a sitting position. He had been lost in his own thoughts and had evidently not heard anything as someone had approached.
Curse these unnaturally silent doors, he thought bitterly as he clutched the hand that had smacked the wall, biting his tongue and only just managing to keep the latest outcry of pain silent. If his first few minutes at Summer Camp were any indication of how his time at Hogwarts was going to go, he was in for a dreadfully clumsy and torturous year.
He looked toward the bottom of the bed and found the source of the voice that had startled him. It was a girl, blonde and pretty. He wondered about that for a moment; he knew that boys and girls were not allowed to room with each other at the school, so he was curious as to why that rule changed for Summer Camp.
Dismissing the thought, he swung his legs around to hang them over the side of the bed, putting himself in a better position to converse.
Fighting back waves of embarrassment, he gave the girl a smile and replied cheerfully, "Hi there! My name's Jay. What's yours?"
While he wasn't particularly happy with the first impression he had made, that of being a clumsy oaf, he was certainly pleased that he would not be spending the summer alone in this cabin.
Just then, the door opened, and in stepped another stranger. As this newcomer came into clear view, Jay found himself more than slightly worried that he had somehow stumbled upon not only the wrong cabin, but perhaps he was on the girls side of the boat or something? He removed the paper still in his pocket and checked it once again, anxiety in his azure eyes. Yes, the room number corresponded with the one on the outside of the door, but maybe there were two cabins with the same number- one on the boys side of the boat, one of the girls side. He didn't think that was how it worked, and he hadn't seen another way leading to a different part of the floating craft, but with his hopelessly oblivious mind, he didn't have a hard time believing that he could have walked right past a large entrance with the word "Boys" written in large, colorful bold letters next to it.
The concern lingered in his gaze as he watched the new girl arrange her belongings before turning to him and the other girl.
"Hello," she said. "Nott Dauhlberg. Who are you?"
Despite his uncertainty, Jay remembered his manners and slid off the bed, landing lightly on the floor. Now he could stand on level ground with them as introductions were made.
"I'm Jay Azul," he stated, adding his last name in correspondence with Nott's introduction. He then reached out in an effort to shake both girls' hands.

When Maya said hello to the boy he jumped up shocked hitting his hand against the wall and sitting up she felt bad it looked like it hurt him but at the same time she found it kind of funny, the boy had thick black hair which hung over his eyes and was also skinny
He clutched his hand, she was going to ask if he was okay but then he started talking
Maya turned to see another girl walking in the room the girl went over to the beds on the other side of the room and started unpacking, the girl had short brown hair, she then turned to face Maya the boy
Looking around the room Maya realises this was it the two bunk beds on either side of the room with just enough room for luggage, she didn’t get a good look before she just started talking to the boy
Maya started to wonder why there were boys and girls in the room since in Hogwarts it wasn’t allowed maybe they made a mistake or maybe they just didn’t care who was with who
“So is anyone else wondering why boys and girls are able to share rooms here but not at Hogwarts?” Maya asked looking at them both
He clutched his hand, she was going to ask if he was okay but then he started talking
she was glad he wasn’t bothered by being a bit clumsy it made her laugh that he didn’t take himself too seriously, she leant against the ladder placing one arm on it just as she opened her mouth to talk the door opened, would she ever get a word in"Hi there! My name's Jay. What's yours?"

After she spoke, the boy slid off the bed onto the floor. He introduced himself as Jay Azul and held out his hand. Apparently manners were important to him or maybe he had been taught well by someone. Either way he was polite and took the effort to come down to the same level as the girls. Nott appreciated the effort, especially since it would have been awkward to glance upwards all the time. Not that she necessarily followed proper etiquette all the time (as most children wouldn't), though, and quite often she forgot or didn't care enough.
Still, first impressions were important as they defined in what light people viewed each other and take a lot of effort to change later. With such a big step in life as going to a new school (for magic) and knowing no one, Nott was especially mindful of how she acted.
As all of this flashed through her mind, the other girl shook the boy's hand, stating her name as Maya Hunter. Then Nott reached out to accept his hand, a little uncomfortably. She never particularly enjoyed interactions like that and didn't shake hands often, but, if this was important to Jay, she would not make a bad first impression.
The other girl, Maya, spoke next. She expressed her concern about both genders being in the same room and mentioned that it was not like that in the castle.
It was a bit strange, but personally, Nott did not mind. Hopefully the other children would not be a problem. So far they seemed nice, and asking for a change would chance being grouped with prickly people. Of course, they could still all end up hating each other for the summer. It probably wouldn't happen though.
In Hogwarts, A History, it mentioned that students were grouped by house. First years did not have houses yet. It was odd that the genders weren't separated as most places separated bathrooms, so maybe the situation was a mistake. Then again, maybe this was like a camping trip. Often gender did not matter when sleeping in a tent, away from home or a building.
"It is odd, perhaps a mistake," Nott started in acknowledgement. "As long as it does not become a bother, I do not mind." Next she had to become aware of their thoughts on the matter. "Do you? We could go to a teacher." She addressed them both, trying to make the tone questioning. The last thing she needed was for one of them to misinterpret her meaning as condescension or blame.

"Maya Hunter."
Jay nodded as Maya stated her name while shaking his hand. He then shook Nott's hand, unofficially bringing an end to their initial introductions.
“So is anyone else wondering why boys and girls are able to share rooms here but not at Hogwarts?” Maya said.
Jay stared at her for a moment, somewhat intrigued by the fact that she had seemingly read his mind and extremely relieved to find out that he wasn't the only one who had not noticed any divisions between boys and girls on the boat.
Nott was the first to reply, "It is odd, perhaps a mistake" she said. "As long as it does not become a bother, I do not mind."
So none of them had been made aware of any designated areas for boys and girls. Perhaps he hadn't been as large of an idiot as he had assumed.
Nott then proceeded to inquire if either of them cared and mentioned bringing a teacher into it. Jay didn't particularly want that to happen; the process of hunting down a teacher, then quite possibly lugging all of his belongings to a different part of the treacherous boat seemed like much too much of a bother at the moment. And besides, while he would certainly harbor no "unchivalrous" intentions, he could never help but hold a place in his heart for romance, and he quite enjoyed the time he was lucky enough to spend with any girls.
"If none of us were told of a division between boys and girls, I think it's pretty safe to assume that we're not breaking any rules here," he said, feeling a good deal more confident now that the embarrassment of his possible mistake had passed. "Don't know why it would be different at Summer Camp, but I'm not one to complain. I can tell you one thing- this is going to be a lot easier on my eyes than spending the summer with a bunch of guys." A cheesy grin was shamelessly plastered on his face as he regarded his new cabin-mates. Despite his earlier worrying, he didn't really get embarrassed easily, and he had never been afraid to drop a few comments here and there that would be widely considered as flirtatious. Mixed with his romantic heart was a genuine belief that all girls deserved many a compliment, and he was happy to be the one to give them.

Cecilia had never thought of a day, he goes to school, but not a school for disabled children, not a normal school, but a school for witches and wizards. Ignoring his pops' disapproval, he chose to go to the summer camp no matter what, a whole new world for him to explore independently is just in his reach. Cecilia couldn't wait any more minutes to go to Hogwarts, the moment he knew about Hogwarts, he knew that he couldn't stand wandering around the same route he always has all his life, he's sick of it and craving for something new.
And now he's seasick on a boat to Hogwarts, Cecilia was one of the last students to get on the boat to the camp and also the last one to leave. And his luggage is all there's to blame, it was too heavy to carry around easily, especially for Cecilia who also have to use a cane to navigate his way, there're people who asked him if he needs any help, but Cecilia refused them all. Pride is just a small factor that made him refused the aides, mostly was his will to choose the hard way so that he could start his new year without asking anyone for help.
After the third time going to the wrong room, Cecilia finally decided to throw away his pride in the trash can to ask a student for guidance to his cabin. He got to his destination eventually, without tripping on something and bump into someone only once, these are the little things that boost his confidence a little bit. But now we'll see if he's going to trip over his words in front of his new roommates and potential friends.
Cecilia heard voices talking inside the room, but he was too exhausted to focus on what they're talking about. He knocked on the door while folding his cane to avoid inconvenient, he just has a feeling that the room might be too small to be comfortable having a cane swinging around.
The door opened as he moved his luggage into the room first "Hello..." a greeting was hanging on his lips as he realized he had tripped on something on the floor and fell on his own luggage, it probably the trim they always have in the entrance floor. "Ouchh"
List of clumsy things to do, bump into someone? check. Tripping over something and embarrass yourself? Check.

The other two agreed with Maya about how it was weird we were sharing a room with people of the opposite gender when we couldn’t back in the castle saying how it wasn’t breaking any rules and it would just be like a camping experience. Maya had only gone camping once and it was with her mum so she didn’t know it didn’t matter who shared a tent, but she didn’t mind as long as everyone was mature and respectful to each other and they seemed like nice people so far so Maya wasn’t worried about sharing a room with them
Once he said his slightly flirty compliment to them Maya laughed a little “You aren’t so bad yourself” she joked slightly nudging him with her arm
They were all talking when there was a knock on the door, the door then opened and another boy walked in, he had curly, long and light brown hair, pale skin, and was a little skinny and short Maya was glad she wasn’t the only short person in the room
He started saying hello but then he fell over onto the floor, Maya rushed over to his side helping him up off of the floor “Are you okay?” She asked checking he wasn’t hurt
A cheesy grin came into Jay’s face as he talked to Maya and Nottbut I'm not one to complain. I can tell you one thing- this is going to be a lot easier on my eyes than spending the summer with a bunch of guys.

They all seemed perplexed by Maya's question. After Nott had stated her opinion, Jay reasoned confidently that if none of them had been told of separating the genders, they probably didn't have to worry about it. Nott agreed with him. They had been put in a group together, so if a teacher came later and told them off, they would just be able to plead ignorance. Beside, it was summer, not the actual school year yet, so it was unlikely they would get into trouble for something so trivial.
Just then there was a knock on the door. Seems like we're getting the fourth and last person. In stepped a boy, though he looked a little like a girl, with light brown hair. That was all Nott could notice before he tried to greet them all but went tipping over.
Unsure of what to do, Nott sat on her bed with her hands beside her, waiting to see what would happen next and shifting uncomfortably.
Jay said with a grin on his face. Nott rolled her eyes, a small smile pulling at her lips though she tried to surpress it. It was that sort of ridiculous humor that a person couldn't help but at least smile at. Maya joked back at him, nudging him in the ribs."Don't know why it would be different at Summer Camp, but I'm not one to complain. I can tell you one thing- this is going to be a lot easier on my eyes than spending the summer with a bunch of guys."
Nott rolled her eyes again at that. She was lucky to have gotten a group with a good sense of light humor. Forbid if she ever managed to say something like that. Nott decided that these would be good people to become friends with if she could manage. So far, her plan consisted of being kind and having fun with them over the summer. It wasn't of course much to go off of, but it as a start."You aren’t so bad yourself."

Well. That was unexpected. It had been a bit comical with the hello being cut off, but chuckling might anger the boy. He didn't seem very hurl, and hopefully he was alright. Nott was about to check before Maya beat her to it. She rushed over to the fallen boy, asking if he was alright."Ouchh."
