How's that for a friend?
Karina Eaglewood ran. Ran somewhere. Anywhere. Anywhere to get away from where she just was. She couldn't bear to live knowing what she had just found out. She scrambled down the halls making her way somewhere quiet. She plopped to the ground. Tears rolling down her face. No one was here at the moment. She had made her way to the corridors. Only the spiders to accompany her. She started to sob. "W-what's th-the point? The p-point in life if you-ou have no friend-s-s?" Her voice was shaking. Just minutes ago she was walking to her best friend's classroom to tell her some news when she heard a voice. "Can you believe her? Like why on Earth would I wanna be friends with her? She just makes life harder." There was another voice... "Yeah. I only pretend to like her. She's so annoying. Like Karina Eaglewood just thinks that everyone has to like her." Karina Eaglewood had overheard those girls. She knew that one of them was her best friend, and the other one was Karina Eaglewood's classmate who didn't often talk to her. But now she knew why. How could her own BFF not like her? What was wrong with her? Questions circled her mind. She had never cried so much in one day. She missed classes, but Karina Eaglewood didn't care, all she cared about was nothing. Nothing one her mind. Nothing mattered anymore. So what if Karina Eaglewood has many other friends, what if they didn't like her too? She must have cried for hours because by the time it was dark outside, Karina Eaglewood was still there. She didn't know what was gonna happen now. Should Karina Eaglewood just pretend like nothing happened and go on being friends with the girl who talked bad about her?
It was already almost time for dinner, but she was still sobbing. She wasn't loud, so she doubted anyone was going to find her there. Even if a prefect walked by, they wouldn't notice her. But it didn't matter, because she was probably going to get detention for skipping classes. Karina Eaglewood's eyes were all puffed up, and the color of a rose, her face wet as if she had just gotten out of a pool. Time felt as if it stopped, she just kept crying. Crying until the ends of her days unless someone was gonna find her.

How's that for a friend?
Charlie was walking around.
She did not really think about where to go.
She was not hungry so why would she go to dinner?
So Charlie was walking around the corridors.
The last few days she spent were with her best friends, however she was in need of something new right now. A new adventure.
Yes, Charlie was bored. She finished her books for the weeks and the librarian might cry if she saw her again. She saw her too many times this past few weeks and will probably start to wonder if this girl was ever sleeping.
The truth was that it was not that Charlie did not sleep. It was that Charlie was in need of something. What? She did not know. A great adventure maybe? Or just something small, a walk in a new place?
So Charlie was walking around, trying to find places she did not know of in Hogwarts.
Well... She did not really find a new place this time... Instead she found a girl. She looked like she was crying but it was already dark so she was not sure.
Charlie was still a bit far away from the girl. She did not know what to do so she let her hands wander in her pockets and... "Oh" she whispered.
She walked up to the girl.
"Hi, do you want a candy?"
The sentence was simple. Clear. But at the same time showed compassion to this person in front of her. That was the way Candice used to cheer her up when she was feeling sad. So why not try it too?
While waiting for the answer, Charlie sat next to the girl.

How's that for a friend?
Karina looked up. There stood a girl. She looked like she wasn't much older than Karina. Maybe a 2nd or 3rd year. She wore her robes with a symbol of the Ravenclaw house. Karina quickly covered her face. She didn't want the girl to see her red-puffed-up-face. But the girl stood there. She then asked Karina if she wanted candy. Karina looked up again. Knowing she couldn't reject the girl's kindness, she nodded. The girl sat down next to her.
Karina seemed to like her. She had brown hair, they were braided. Her eyes. Something was special about her eyes. They were blue. Like the sky. No, like crystals. No like the ocean. Something about them, they stood out, making the girl seem so beautiful.
Karina knew someone would eventually show up, but she didn't think that they would actually be nice to her. "Why-y are you-u doing th-this? You-u do-n-n't ha-ave to pret-end to li-like me. You-u do-n-n't ha-ave to pret-end to ca-are abou-t-t me. I-I hea-ard my friend-ds talking abou-t-t me." She was still crying. She tore off her friendship bracelet and threw it on the floor, by the girl. She was still waiting on the candy...
Suddenly Karina her footsteps. Someone else was coming. She knew who it was. Their laughter was louder than ever. It was Karina's ex-friends. The ones who talked bad of her.

"Hey... I... Well I don't know you. I don't even know your name to be honest. What I know is I hate seeing people cry and I sincerely don't know how to confort them"
The ravenclaw laughed without any joy.
"So here is a candy..."
She gave the candy, a muggle one that her mom sent her by owl. It was packed in a red paper and smelled of cherry.
"... And I'm not your friend"
She paused, an horrified look on her face.
"That's ! That's not what I wanted to say! I wanted to say that I'm not like your friend and we don't know eachother so we could maybe be friend or at least I could help you, I'm sure I could. I hope the candy brings a bit of happiness to you and please don't care about these friends of yours. They are not your friends. They should never be. No one should talk behind the back of anyone!"
Charlie said all this very quickly, nearly without breathing and without looking the girl in the eyes while standing up, mad that someone could act this way with a nice girl like the one she had in front of her. As she stood up the friendship bracelet Karina threw at her was caught in her robes and without noticing must have fell in her pocket.
"Do you want to go somewhere else?"

Karina looked up. She was chewing the gummy, cherry, muggle candy. "I-I think it's best if we go, y-yes" Karina's stuttering had slowly been going away. She felt safe and confident knowing that someone was there with her. Karina stood up, holding her hand out to the girl, helping her stand up. She had stopped crying by now. But the moment she felt safe, she felt as though she was an orange. All of her bravery was sucked out, and turned into juice. Because the two girls had now turned the corner and paused in their tracks. The one girl (Her ex-friend) ran up to Karina, "Oh, honey, what's wrong? Why are you in tears?" She turned to the 2nd year, "WHAT have you done to my BFF?! Why is she crying? YOU did this to her, huh?"
Karina sighed, knowing she had to defend the girl who tried to comfort her. "Don't talk to her li-like that. She-e didn't do thi-is to me. You-u did." Karina's old friend suddenly figured what was going on. She looked up, horrified. "Karina, you miss understood me. I know you were standing there. I wasn't talking about you." Just then, the other girl (who was Karina's ex-friend's friend) let out a chuckle, "Oh you bet, we TOTALLY weren't talking about you." Karina didn't wanna hear their lies. She took the 2nd-year-girl's hand. "I don't need you" All her bravery was now coming back..."I can make my own friends. Who are much, much kinder. At least they care about me. The two ex-friends walked away, giggling, knowing that their 'annoying friend' was off of their shoulders.
Karina turned to the girl. "Thanks for helping me. I'm Karina by the way."

The ravenclaw girl smiled to Karina even though her eyes where wondering around where the two other girls went. They were some really evil snakes. Candice warned her that some of her house mates might be like that but they were only first year?! How could someone almost her age be that mean to someone else...
"I'm... I'm so sorry you had to endure a friendship like that... You seem nice. And she totally screamed at me. I hate this type of people"
Her eyes darkened while talking about the ex friends of Karina but then they stopped on the slytherin girl and they instantly shared a feeling of apology.
"I'm so sorry. I should not have said that. They were your friends. But... Wow you impressed me"
Charlie gave a big smile to the girl.
"For real, you were so brave standing up to them like you did. I propably would not have done the same at your place. Are you sure you're not a Gryffindor?"
Charlie was telling her last sentence while eyeing the green robes of Slytherin.
"I'm not even sure I remember seeing you around... Are you a first year? If so, that must be why and if not I'm so sorry, I've an excellent memory but it seems that it does not work on people's faces at all..."
Charlie began walking while talking in order to go somewhere a little less dark and maybe more warm. This castle could be pretty cold on evenings like this one.

"Haha" Karina smiled, No, I'm no Gryffindor. I'm just a Slytherin. A First-Year Slytherin." As Charlie began walking, Karina quickly caught up to her. You know, your name is really pretty. I love that name. Okay... at this point I'm just complementing you, a lot of people say that some complements, (not specifically from me), are usually fake, but I really do mean it." Charlie and Karina looked at each other, and Karina now knew the difference between people she should and shouldn't be friends with, but Charlie was definitely a keeper.
"You know, I always wanted an older sibling. Perhaps an older sister to share things with, I mean I'm of course really grateful for my 2 younger siblings, I just want someone to always be there for me. I know you have your own, 2nd-year friends, but I think that you and I wouldn't make a bad friendship." Karina stopped. She opened one of her little sacks, and pulled out a string, blue bracelet, with a Ravenclaw charm on the front.

" I hope we aren't moving to quickly, but here, have this bracelet. I always keep this sack with me, it has all sorts of bracelets. I usually keep this sack with me, in case I make a new friend. I make them on my free-time. I have gave out about 6 of them already. " Karina blushed. She smacked her face, taking the bracelet back, " What was I thinking? I mean, obviously you have your own friends, and your own bracelets, you don't need this." She looked up at Charlie, "Well, I mean, if you want, you can have it..."
Waiting for Charlie to respond, she took out a Slytherin bracelet that looked like the Ravenclaw one, and she put it on.

"I usually make different ones. Like ones out of string, rubber bands, clay beads, regular beads, and many different types. So they're basically matching, but not identical to some one else's."
Karina observed the bracelets, "I gotta say, this bracelet was kind of hard to make, my Aunt Stella taught me. I'm talking to much, aren't I?" Karina looked back at Charlie, who probably was confused on what Karina had been talking about.

Charlie was coming back to the present tense after being out for a few seconds. She liked the girl. And the thought of having sort of a little sister seemed nice too. She had two older friends she always thought of as her big siblings but she was always the younger and never had the feeling of someone looking up to her. Moreover, she also knew what a great feeling it was to have someone, a friend, to talk to, who was out of the ordinary life. It was a special kind of friendship. She treasured hers and Karina looked like she did too.//Flashback//
"Hi! I'm Charlie! I know you know Terry, well I think so. Aren't you Fineas little brother? He told me a bit about you. Do you want a candy? I have some candy here. That should make you happy. Do you maybe want to be friends? I don't know what I'm doing right now I'm talking way to fast I'm so sorry."
Charlie was standing there, in front of her boy her age, a first year too. It was the first week of classes and Charlie longed to make new friends. A big smile was on her face while her cheeks were a bit red and her mouth slightly open, trying to catch some air...
//End of Flashback//
"It's okay. You don't talk too much at all. In fact you talk just right. I love people who talk their mind like you do. And Karina, you know what? I would absolutely love to accept this bracelet and be your friend. Be your big sister of heart."
Charlie smiled even more while taking the bracelet and putting it on her wrist.
"It is so beautiful!!! You need to teach me how to make some!"
The Ravenclaw stopped and sat down on the border of a window, inviting Karina to do the same and then looking through the glass to the sky already painted with stars.
"I love your name too by the way. It would be an amazing name for a constellation."

Karina blushed as she sat down next to Charlie. "Well, it was pretty difficult to make." She put the bracelet on, looking at it, smiling. She was going to like Hogwarts, she knew it, especially now that she had a friend that was older than her. Karina turned to Charlie, "Charlie, have you ever felt like you just needed to get out of life, to go explore, to go out for an adventure? It's a pretty random question, but looking out of this window, seeing that there is so much more to the world, than we even know. I mean, before I had my first instance of magic, I had no clue that there was a school for witches and wizards, it's so unusual. Unusually wonderful." Karina looked down. Her bracelet sack looked as though it was missing some bracelets. She flipped over the sack, letting only on bracelet fall into her hand.

Karina looked around, mumbling something, "Where could they be, where did they all go?" Karina suddenly plopped on the ground, searching for the bracelets, they were gone.
"Now I have to make new ones." She looked at Charlie, who was as confused as Karina was. "Will you help?" Waiting for the reply, she put the Gryffindor bracelet into the sack, and sat back down by the window.

Charlie was also looking around for the bracelets Karina seemed to have lost but then she stopped to look back through the window.
"I'm just... You know, thinking back of what you said. That's funny..."
She stopped mid sentence, her eyes taking a picture of the beautiful scenery in front of her.
"Yeah I was saying that's funny because before I found you I was thinking of exactly the same thing!"
A mysterious smile appeared on her lips, her eyes going up from the grounds to the sky.
"I'm not you. I've not the same story. I'm a wizard born and I knew about all this before coming here, but it still feels too much like... Like school. And don't get me wrong, I love learning and everything. It's just that I feel like I need something else to do. A goal. Something to achieve or to discover."
While talking about this idea, her hand was playing with her necklace, some sort of habit she had when daydreaming.
"When I was still at home I had dance. I had ballet and of course I've still got it, I'm doing summer programs and I miss it when I'm her but it's not that. It's not quite that. I just yearn a mystery. Something to do. Something that we don't know of that could be discovered. If for muggles magic is a discovery then what is a discovery for us, wizards? Is there something else? How could we know? How can we be sure there is or is not something else? And we have not discovered everything in the world! We haven't even discovered everything in Hogwarts! There are so many secrets, so many adventures that we can live..."
Charlie stopped to catch her breath, not knowing what else to add to her little monologue.
