He stuck out his tongue for extra drama, pretending that the rat fever was already kicking in, the rat-blood running through his veins. It would be any moment now that he'd turn into 'RatMan' and devastate the castle, sending his little rats through the sewers and infect the rest of the students. It was like another plague playing in his mind. Remy was really having his fun daydreaming about this cataclysm, but it all ended quite short when she started screeching like a banshee again.
He couldn't help but wince again at the scream. One of the biggest mysteries in this castle would be the physics behind her voicebox. How did she do it? How did she scream so loud? How did she manage to have a range that could reach those high screams and those low guttural growls? Man, even someone with a clear voice like Remy could be jealous about that. Maybe if she practiced, she could be good at this whole singing business. The boy amused himself with the idea of small Dinara Lucey mounting the stage and belting out the queen of the night's aria.
Her pathetic attempts to try to move him to another room, which he assumed was the hospital wing, made him struggle to keep a neutral face and stop laughing. He made some kind of an odd, gross sound as he closed his eyes and stuck his tongue further. He was going to let this go on for a while before she mentioned being arrested. "Bleeegh-wait a minute...?" Remy sat up quickly and snapped his gaze back at her, mapping her face out as if this was their first meeting. "You were thinking about being arrested all along? That's the first and foremost thought? The priority?" he blinked a few times, slowly raising a brow. What an anticlimactic disappointment! No sobbing over his dead and cold corpse, no death wishes.
For some reason, his chest felt a bit empty. Well, what had he really expected? Some kind of a tragic high-end performance? Nudging his cheek, he glanced back at the wall, his gaze now empty.
Remy, I don't quite get why you feel disappointed right now.
He started an inner monologue about how he should be glad that she was ready to take action instead of just starting to cry. Even if her attempts were a bit...sad, he appreciated the gesture. Looking back, he smiled widely. No need to be gloomy, Remy Alto was always in a cheerful mood! I was just goofing around with you. Don't worry, I don't have rat fever...at least I don't think so..." he said ominously.

The sudden dip in the boy's mood had a huge impact on Dinara. Something about the way he spoke as well as the very much stark contrast between his normal self and that blank expression that he had made shot a pang of pain into the little girl's heart.
It wasn't that she only worried about her getting arrested. There were many other thoughts that sprang to mind when she genuinely believed that she might lose Remy to the rat fever, it's just that there was simply no way for Dinara to verbalise feelings or thoughts that even she herself couldn't truly comprehend.
"I mean... Being arrested wasn't my first priority." she shuffled her feet uncomfortably, hugging her knees to her chest. The boy may have been mapping her face, but she absolutely refused to meet his eyes. "I just..." her voice trailed off, with Dinara's pea-sized brain being unable to explain how she actually felt.
As Remy stared off into the distant wall, Dinara tucked her head into the small space between her knees and chest, struggling to deal with the guilt that surged within her. She almost looked like a weird, overgrown hairy mushroom; what with her large mane of hair shielding her face from sight and her oversized robes completely concealing her body.
It wasn't often that Dinara had to deal with negative emotions, she was generally a happy, well-adjusted kid. At the very most, she screamed her anger out. To have to deal with this soul-crushing guilt was another, though she really couldn't begin to comprehend why she felt so bad. It wasn't the first time that she'd have hurt someone with her words, but somehow it felt like a simple 'sorry' wouldn't be enough. Not towards Remy, at least.
Though the boy may have been able to switch gear and quickly revert back to his normal cheery self, his admission that his whole 'Rat Fever' fiasco was an act earned him a smack from the enraged lioness. It would have hurt, if not for the fact that she was feeling rather weak at the moment. Not physically ill, mind you, but more so a mix of relief, but also anger that she got so worried over a stupid act, of all things.
"You really shouldn't lie about things like that!" her eyes were large, tears starting to brim. It was more tears of relief than anything else, but she quickly wiped them away with her sleeve, turning away to hide her red eyes from the world. "It's not something to joke about. What if it was actually a really serious thing?" Choosing to keep her back turned towards Remy still, she angrily took out her little Gummi Candy Pet Rat and tore it open with the ferocity of a starving tiger, chewing angrily. Candy always made her feel better, and it was definitely something that she needed at this point in time.

Remy was an odd kid when it came to dealing with anything negative, let alone negative emotions. Any sort of emotions, really! By being cheerful 24/7, he did not have to deal with any negative emotions. It was like his natural state of mind that he had trained himself to uphold. Truthfully, he did like to mope around in his preteen hormones more behind the closed doors. Of course, he was a human being and sometimes couldn't hold it in. When he felt sour and bitter, he often took it on others. The people weak in his eyes often got to be his buffer as he let his frustrations out. Bad feelings manifesting as bullying was not noble at all, but Remy had never been met with resistance that would shake him awake.
She really was the one infecting everyone else here. For some reason, her emotions were always extremely contagious. He could feel the sting of guilt in her heart by her voice and in a matter of seconds, he mirrored that sting right back. The boy wanted to shake this emotion off as fast as he could. It felt terrible, he never felt guilt for anyone like this. "No...wait-" his voice trailed off, well, more like was cut off quite quickly by one slap on the cheek.
The sting changed places from his heart (if that existed, anyway) to his cheek. It wouldn't hurt too much, it was a weak performance from her. Had she been literally anyone else, Remy would have probably critiqued their poor slapping technique before proceeding to kick their backsides. This time, he just slid his hand on his cheek. It was red due to the fact of how pale his skin was, it reacted with literally anything. Remy often found himself bruised and full of scars despite the actual injuries being very small in size. This wasn't how he envisioned for the first time that he was slapped to go. Still, it hurt. Not physically per se, but mentally. He didn't want to be pushed away by her. For some reason, her opinion and attitude towards him mattered.
"Wait. Don't go, please?" Remy's voice faltered much more than he would have liked it to. He immediately cleared his throat afterward. He did not want her to have to listen to his squealing voice akin to a rat in distress. His plea wasn't about physically leaving him either. He knew that the last thing she probably wanted right now was for someone to touch him, but he did it anyway. Remy lightly grabbed a little piece of the robes on her back, tugging it so slightly that she could probably barely feel his grip there. It was his own way of making sure that she wouldn't run away or pretend not to hear him.
There was nothing that he hated as much as admitting that he had been in the wrong and apologize. Surely, this had proved to be a problem in the Alto family as he frequently liked to piss his siblings and parents off alike. "I'm sorry," he muttered, barely audible as he slid his other hand down too, trying to get closer despite her warning him with the ferocious strength of her jaws.

Seeing the walls around Remy drop down the way it did was more than enough for Dinara to forgive the boy immediately. Not that she was ever truly angry at him in the first place, it was likely the prepubescent hormonal mood swings that affected her mood this much. Continuing to devour the little rat candy, she begrudgingly tore off the smallest piece she could (aka the really thin piece of rat tail) and turned around, holding it out as an olive branch.
"I'm not going to leave, you silly. What if the injury was indeed serious? Then you'd be alone and sad in this run-down toilet!" she meant what she said, and the girl couldn't bring herself to be harsh towards the sad-looking boy in front of her. He had reacted way differently from what she'd expected, she had almost half thought that they'd actually get into a physical fight. Scooting forward to get closer, she took in a big gulp of air before bracing herself for what she was about to say.
"I'm sorry too," her eyes darted about wildly, looking everywhere but absolutely refusing to meet his gaze. "...For smacking you and... Well, being arrested wasn't my priority at all. I was just, yaknow, kind of worried maybe?" If Dinara had known that Remy was worried about sounding like a squeaking rat, she'd have laughed out loud because she was the one who truly sounded like one. What she had just said was absolutely difficult for the girl to even choke out, resulting in her sounding what Sharon probably would've sounded like while panicking in the boy's palm.
Leaning forward, she fiddled uncomfortably with the hem of her robes. Eventually deciding to just go for it, she extended her arms towards him. "No hard feelings between us?"
Internally, Dinara was hoping that this offer of a hug and an agreement for peace would be enough to settle things between the both of them. She didn't like having to be sad and tippy-toed around Remy, it just really wasn't like their friendship at all! The memories that they've shared so far have all been positive, and the little girl really really wanted to keep it that way.
While Dinara wouldn't have usually hesitated when it comes to giving hugs, it was just something about Remy that was different. She increasingly felt weird around him, hesitating more and feeling more strongly about any form of physical contact with him. Still, that didn't much matter in this particular situation. All Dinara knew was that she had hurt a Friend, and she needed to rectify that.

He raised his hands up in the air as if he was the one about to get arrested. Her choice of weaponry was the sad and thin tail of the Gummy rat that he still felt bad about. Remy looked left and right to make sure that there were no rats around to witness their decapitated friend. Remy was lucky enough to never have witnessed a big rat decapitating a gummy human and would have liked to keep it that way for the sake of his own sanity.
He was glad that she was unwilling to leave him here. He would have probably sobbed in some stall for years and become the next ghost to haunt the toilets 'til the end of the time. Remy was aware that Dinara was not comfortable with apologizing at all. It had happened a couple of times, each and every time she refused to look him in the eye and the tone of her voice reminded him of his long lost love, Sharon.
He let her robes go and his face cleared up. It was only now that Remy realized that he had been on the verge of crying throughout the whole time. He hoped that his eyes weren't too glassy and she wouldn't notice how he had struggled to be holding up until now. He prided himself of not being unreasonably emotional and hated it now too how he had let her in for a couple of seconds on his other side. He preferred for her to see the ever-cheerful Remy Alto who was always down for a good time. He did feel awfully giddy now that she had admitted to being worried about him. They might have been rivals in his head but their relationship had started to resemble a friendship or something if anything.
He decided to keep quiet, preferring not to say anything. If he would open his mouth he'd probably start squealing or sniffling like a rat. The boy just shook his head gently and selected for a hug himself too. He was extremely comfortable, too comfortable when invading someone's privacy. At first, he struggled to figure out how to hug someone considerably shorter. In the end, he found their hug quite snug. He was a good head and a fourth taller than him so he opted for squeezing her face and body against his chest and placing his jaw on top of her head. Remy squeezed a bit harder than usual as some kind of revenge for slapping him.
Then the insecurities started flooding in. He probably smelled like sewer rats, which he assumed did not smell good. Besides, his heart was racing and not only because of the earlier chase. He found this all a bit...embarrassing despite usually being a rowdy kid who did not grasp the concept of personal bubbles. Gently patting her back with his hand, he became awfully aware of how soft her hair was. Funny, it looked quite dry but felt smooth. What was the secret behind her shampoo?

The gummy rat which she had offered out to him as a peace offering was very promptly ignored, and it dropped to the floor -- possibly serving as a delicious treat for some fortunate insect or rat in future. In any other situation, Dinara would've been adamantly insisting that Remy had ignored her gift, but she was just glad things seemed to have more or less cleared up between the two.
She didn't expect to be smooshed into his chest, of all things, though she supposed that with their height difference that was more or less the most possible of things that they could've done. Dinara wasn't quite sure if it had been her imagination, or if Remy was truly squeezing slightly too tightly, hardly ever had a hug made Dinara feel so uncomfortable. Not necessarily in a bad way, it was just something she wasn't used to.
It could also very well be due to the loud thrumming of her heart, which was a rather fortunate happening for Remy as Dinara was very much too distracted by the seeming drumset within herself to notice anything off, even though her head was primed right at an optimal spot to listen to heartbeats if she so desired to. While Remy may still have had time to process and worry about himself smelling bad and what not, Dinara was simply frozen in place.
Her mind had quite literally just blanked out, with absolute incapability to process any form of thought at the moment. All she could feel was the rising heat in her cheeks and her increasingly sweaty palms, which she was quick to attribute to the hot weather (nevermind the fact that the Abandoned Toilets were one of the cooler places in Hogwarts).
"Uh, like, I gottago," a moment of panic was all Dinara needed to gently push herself away from the boy's hug. "ByeIguessI'llseeyouaround" The words tumbled out of Dinara's mouth as she rushed out of the toilet, banging into the walls several times on her way out.
That was too nice of a hug. Way too nice. To the point where it actually scared Dinara -- Remy was supposed to be a rival, and nothing else. That was how she had lived her life thus far; compartmentalizing everything. The notion that not everything was black and white hadn't quite settled in for her, and this was the first time that she was met with such a widespread grey area.
The confused little Hufflepuff then sprinted all the way back to her Common Room, pushing away the thoughts that kept surfacing.Dinara Lucey exits.

He was too occupied with himself to even extend his thoughts to her. She could have melted in his hands into alien goo and he'd still be absorbed with being worried about how embarrassing he was being. She was the one who initiated the hug so he thought that it was okay to hold someone in your arms for a second. Then why was he blushing so furiously? Could it be...RAT FEVER???!! No, it might have been his sentimental thoughts just wandering around. He wouldn't describe her as much of a charmer but he still couldn't cool his cheeks down no matter how much he tried to. Sometimes, he wished that his willpower would be enough to control these involuntary bodily functions.
When she pushed him gently away, he didn't mind this time or see it as a form of rejection. Had she not done that, he would still be locking her, trying to decipher what possible shampoo this was. Was it some kind of wizard shampoo? Magical? Anyway, back to the girl and not her hair. Remy struggled to understand what she was saying. Something about how she had to go accompanied by some mumble rapping in the end. She took off and he struggled to keep himself from laughing when she kept hitting the walls and struggled to find the exit. He was more worried about her than amused by this sight. Had she been infected with the rat fever? "The way out, it's- yup, right there, no, oh no, gosh," he winced every time she hit the wall and had to look away in the end.
When she was gone, a weird silence ascended in the room. It reminded him of just how loud that little ball of fiery fury could be. He snapped from his trance as he could hear squealing not that far away from him. He looked down only to see Sharon (or one of her 100 sisters) nibbling on the tail of the gummy rat. Remy gave the rat a disgusted look before giggling lightly and exiting himself.Remy Alto exits the scene
