Day 1 [Spectator] [2024/25 Stage 1] - Duelling Club

The start of the school year is occasionally tough to get used to, especially for newbies to the wizarding world. Even almost two months in, fledgling first years and the rare returning student faced dilemmas that stemmed from being thrown headfirst into classes and homework. As such, those wixes may have been ecstatic upon learning the final dates for Stage 1 of the Hogwarts Duelling Tournament. With fire in their veins and new spells in their brains, the grand majority of the student body made their way to the Duelling Club for the weekend, prepared to eat, breathe, and sleep in the presence of spell slinging.

Whether it was to let off some steam after suffering under stacks of essays or the need to keep up with their friends and enemies on the piste, crowds of students blew past the club door and filled the entire room. Not an empty seat on the stands was available and those who couldn’t secure relief for their poor legs would be content to perch vertically, taking in the action from a more grounded view. The two pistes extended before the stands, waiting to host a myriad of talented duellists over the next two days. The sight, familiar to most and new to some, was enough to inspire entrants to practice their spellcasting even harder as one day, they could make it onto their house duelling team. But for today, all they could do was simply watch the best of the best duke it out.

OOC: This is the spectator thread for all of the above duels. There are two duels taking place in the morning (both at the same time) and two in the afternoon (both at the same time). This is not a moderated thread, so standard site rules apply!

For ease: Please look at the timetable and make a specific note at the top of your post stating if you are in the morning or afternoon slot and which duel you are watching/commenting on to minimize confusion for other players.

	"Quick, quick! It looks like they're just starting!" Alyssea ushered her dormmates into the spectator stands. Gods, it'd been a while since she sat here, didn't she? What was the last duel she ever even spectated? It felt like all she ever came here for was training and her own duels. Once they'd all sat down, she surveyed the matchups. Ravenclaw versus Hufflepuff in the senior league. Historically, Ravenclaw had been a powerhouse. They were still strong, of course, but so many sports went through a lot of changes. There was bound to be a lot of change. Once Alyssea saw Lea and Haven walk out, she tapped someone's shoulder. "Everyone, look, look! It's Lea and Haven. Lea's really good at this, so this one's gonna be an exciting match," Alyssea grinned. She was probably rambling at this point, but whatever. She turned to the piste and put her hands around her mouth, yelling, "LEA! HAVEN! GOOD LUCK!" On the other side of the piste was another Hufflepuff matchup, though against Gryffindor. Alyssea didn't really know any of the duellists there, but it never hurt to give her badger mates some extra moral support. She yelled again, "CRUSH 'EM, HUFFLEPUFF!"

Nabi had been sitting at the spectator stands since the morning as she silently observed the
Slytherin team go against the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs. Students would stay and observe for a bit before they would leave, she did not pay them much mind. Nabi was not particularly interested in the team since she knew none of the players, however, she was rather interested in the sport. Her parents were both in their school's dueling team and always seemed to have rather fond memories of their dueling days. Thus her intrigue on the sport began...and she simply wanted to send a poor child flying.

There she sat in her chair, observing, that is until she suddenly heard what can only be
described as a blood-curdling scream come from an older student. Oh for Merlin...bloody- her thoughts were once again cut short as the girl yelled, "CRUSH 'EM, HUFFLEPUFF!". Nabi's ears rang for a few moments, she was not used to such rowdy people, Goodness...she nearly burst my eardrum. She glanced over to the tumultuous girl, no doubt about it, she must be a Hufflepuff..and here I thought the Hufflepuffs were all a bunch of timid children. She stayed quiet for a moment longer before nodding to herself in thought and finally speaking up, "I must say...you have quite the stentorian voice, Miss..."

Morning Slot, Match 1

Illowy wasn't sure why in the world she'd dragged herself from her typical weekend routine for a duel match she wasn't even apart of... alright, that wasn't entirely true. She knew why. She wanted to be supportive for once... even if it was a piss poor attempt given how reclusive she'd been. But two of her favorite people in the world were having their last first duel of the season and even she couldn't bring herself to miss that as she shouldered her way as close to the piste as she could.

It always felt strange to be the crowd like this and part of her quietly missed the feeling of action; of throwing spells and being hit in a way that brought her to life.

Anxiously, she worried her lip as the dueliests took their positions, and like an explosion the duel came to life. Pale eyes watched steadily, quietly noting how Ruby failed to make her first cast which was so... un-Ruby-like it unnerved her, but was redeemed quickly the next round. Her eyes also flickered to the brunette that had been her roommate and best friend main confidant for nearly her whole time at Hogwarts, throwing casts out as easily as a fish swims through water.

Absently, she picked at her nails, heart racing at the excitement of it all. Simultaneously, she swallowed down the sad pang of remembering that soon, events like these would be a thing of the past.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

	Junior League duels needed some more pizzazz because what the hell was happening in the Senior League? Honestly, these seniors were so much cooler with all their flashy spells than any lower year could do (including Alyssea). Within seconds of the match starting, the floor blew up beneath the Ravenclaw duellists and a heavy fog settled over the Hufflepuff duellists. Straight after, the floor blew up beneath the Hufflepuff duellists and one of the Ravenclaw's got hit with a strong gust of wind. Alyssea pouted. Well, guess she will have to miss out on seeing her housemates until the fog goes away. "I must say..." Alyssea's eyes widened slightly and turned to see who was talking. There was a girl, just slightly taller than her or maybe even the same height, with ebony black hair and grey eyes. Alyssea had never seen her before, nor understood what 'stentorian' meant. That was a word? Considering it was an adjective for her voice, maybe Alyssea was being too loud. Funny word out of the way, Alyssea chuckled. "Just excited for my roommates. And don't call me 'Miss'. Just Alyssea is fine." Alyssea brought out her hand for a handshake and smiled. "Third year Hufflepuff. What's your name?"
