Physical Description: Odette has always been a pretty, cherubic child with delicate features and rosy cheeks. Standing around 144cm, around 4'9", she is still quite skinny with knobbly knees and sharp elbows. Pale skin is typically flushed along her cheeks and nose, complimenting large, gray-blue eyes that give a glassy impression. A small, heart-shaped face is adorned by a sharp chin and straight nose, bearing striking resemblance to her mother. Ash-blonde hair is kept short and wild, appearing slightly fluffy as if styled by static electricity. While Odette is prideful about her appearance and does not abide by being dirty or unkempt, she does have an... unusual dress sense. This typically includes a lot of layers of varying (often clashing) colours.
Mental Description: Naive due to her sheltered upbringing, Odette has always relied on her book-smarts to understand the situations around her. Odette is mature beyond her years as she has primarily interacted with adults, talking with her is almost uncanny - as if speaking to a very small adult. She was home-schooled from an early age and is an only child to boot, so she does struggle when it comes to interacting with other children. Which is a shame as Odette desperately wants to make friends as she has never really had one before (not that her pride would ever let her admit that). Libraries and hidden corners are her usual haunts as she is an avid reader - she is also an avid daydreamer and enjoys listening to Muggle music while walking the grounds. She is also notably quite brave and relentless - traits inspired by the many adventure books that she reads - she does not shy away from confrontation and will often speak up when she sees injustice. Overall, Odette is a kind, polite young girl with a bit of a prideful streak who is a teeny bit spoiled but brave and well-spoken.
Biography: Odette was born and raised in a very sheltered, privileged environment and the first few years of her life were largely uneventful. She lived in a large, country estate outside of Ross-on-Wye with her parents and live-in nanny, Rosanne 'Rosie' Tomas. She was homeschooled from the very beginning and was always vaguely aware of magic - Rosie, and her mother, Violette, occasionally used it around the house.
Her father, Alfred, however, was a Muggle from a distinguished, wealthy family of bankers and while he was aware of her mother’s magical proclivities, his family was decidedly not. As such, they were always careful when they came to visit, and their countryside residence served both as an isolation buffer and protection from the outside world.
As previously mentioned, Odette’s first few years of life were largely uneventful. That was until a few months before her sixth birthday when her mother suddenly disappeared. Violette was a French Witch who had been working as an Unspeakable for the Ministry – as such, the family was never granted any meaningful answers into her disappearance and in the Muggle world, all sorts of awful rumours followed them.
Alfred withdrew entirely from society and Odette’s already small world became even smaller.
It wasn’t long after her mother’s disappearance that Odette’s magic finally materialised. In her childish mind, this was proof that her mother had never intended to leave her and that a part of Violette lived on within her child. When Odette received her letter to Hogwarts, she was absolutely ecstatic – this was a solid connection to her mother and maybe, finally, she would be able to get some answers.
First Instance of Magic: It was a few months after her mother’s disappearance, Odette had recently celebrated her sixth birthday – the first one she’d ever celebrated without her mother. Loneliness, feelings of abandonment, had stirred in her little heart. She had taken to sitting in the attic during her melancholier episodes, hidden away among her mother’s fine dresses, and was in the process of weeping – desperately wishing for her mother to come home – when one of the dresses reached down and wiped her tears. Odette promptly fell backwards in shock, watching with wide eyes as the dress returned to a slack piece of fabric on the hanger – as if it had never happened.
