Quidditch & Chill

With trembling legs and cold feet, Hugh had made his way through the biting wind and slight drizzling rain across the school grounds over to the stadium. With an almost stumbling manner, he got himself up the small wooden steps leading up in one of the towers which would eventually lead him to an open space inside the tribunes. A handful of long dark wooden benches were built into the stadium's framework in order for the audience to be seated during the entire match. Soon he would reckon the place would be littered with hoards of screaming teenagers all too oblivious to the fact not a single one of the players can actually understand what they are trying to say. Unless it would be some cheering in unison, that would be nice. Hugh smiled at the thought of him on a broom and several of his friends cheering for him. Not Ana, she would be right with him on the field. Stop thinking about Ana... She's just some girl you know. Some friend..
The benches were wet and cold to the touch. Hugh's hands were slightly freezing in the chilling air gushing around the stadium. His thick crown of dark brown curls taking all forms as it danced with the wind. A breath of hot air was meant to keep his hands from aching any further, as he silently rubbed both his palms against one another he looked aside to the empty planks. Not an aweful lot of students had come and see this year's first quidditch game. A sport he had only read and learned about in his time here at school. Yet he had been sold right off the bat.
With Slytherin playing this year's first game, Hugh had figured asking Nico if she'd go and watch. Much to his surprise she actually wasn't really planning to. She did not say no to accompanying him though. Which allowed for the boy to offer her any information she might need at getting to know this magical game of sports. Though he wasn't quite sure how violent it would get here on the school grounds. He had read horrible stories in several books now. Surely the staffmembers of this school would have taken some precausions? Hugh eventually figured he wasn't smart enough for knowing how to handle this and shrugged the issue off with the wind.
Looking across the field, he pulled up his scarf a little as to protect his already bright red nose a little better. The young boy was sniffing repeatedly among a chorus of likewise freezing students. Patiently waiting for both Nico to join him and the game to commence. For all the things he had read, this would be the first time he would see a game in person. Simply going by the way several writers go about and explain some matches, this had to be a sight to see. hugh could feel the sensation already rilling through his spine.
As the first members of both teams entered the stadium and the field. He could not help but slide to the very edge of the bench, just to get a slightly better view at what was going on down there. His legs and arms were now wrapped up in his long black cloak with the wind occasionally blocking his sight by pushing a wall of hair in his face. He remembered he had signed up for the Gryffindor team but was not yet notified if he had actually managed to enter. As much as he enjoyed the rain on a wuiet day, he would not enjoy flying through the bitter cold air on a quidditch day. perhaps he should have brought goggles. Or just some warm gloves, he concluded as he eyed his cold hands.
He looked once more over his shoulder, trying to find the red haired girl somewhere among the stream of students entering the tribunes. Maybe she had forgotten about it? Or was this place to public for her? He knew she wasn't really fond of crowds. Perhaps he should have thought about that before asking her to come. Rather incosiderate now that he mentioned it to himself. Yet silently he hoped it would be nothing. No one would really miss quidditch right? Right?

'You wanna join me to watch the Quidditch game?'
''Sure''
What was she thinking?
Nico arrived at the foot of the tall, wooden tower. It was so high... She still wasn't entirely sure why she agreed to come here. Probably because she wanted to spend some more time with her first Hogwarts friend. He was pretty excited when he asked her, she couldn't have said no to such genuine enthusiasm. Some students already climbed up the stairs, chatting loudly. Seems there were more Quidditch enthusiasts. This could become a noisy experience.
Carefully, the redhead peeked around the corner of the tower, to watch the field. It was huge. The wind could do whatever it wished, which was making everything cold and rather uncomfortable. Her ice blue eyes, gazed up at the top. Her endgoal... was up there. The wind already felt cold enough. Imagine how drafty it must be up there. For a moment, she contemplated to maybe return to her dorm and take a nap, but she didn't want to dissapoint Hugh. Unlike someone else, she wasn't planning to ditch him.
Nico took a deep breath and carefully went up the wooden, creaky stairs. Her wooly, Slytherin green mittens, protected her hands from occasional cobweb encounters, as she shrieked accordingly. Why were there spiders everywhere in this castle... Why couldn't they be butterflies instead?
Finally, she reached the top. As predicted, the wind caught her by surprise. She'd expected it to be cold, but not this cold... Luckily, her scarf, mittens and thick winter coat, protected her from the freezy breeze.
'Oh, Francis is over there!' A Ravenclaw waved by swinging his arm wildly. It looked as if he was cleaning a very big window, at high speed. Apparantly, he saw a friend of his on another tower on the opposite side of the field. Come to think of it, Nico didn't know anything about Quidditch. She knew they rode brooms.... And played some sort of... ball game? Girls from in her dorm got very excited to sign up for the House team. Why though? What was so fun? Didn't she hear that the teammembers had to beat each other up?
Curiously, Nico looked over the edge of the tower, down at the field. Color faded from her face immediately and she quickly set a few steps back. Nope. Don't like that. Such a slim tower, this wind, the noise,...What if one crashed? Like, right here? The tower would fall, no? For a few seconds, she tried to pull herself together. Why was she here again?
Oh, right!
Jumping up by that thought, the Slytherin Prefect quickly looked around to spot the Scot. Hugh was tall for his age. He shouldn't be too hard to find, right? And right she was. With his big stature, Hugh peaked above the averga students. Swiftly, Nico ran over to him, dodging every Huffelpuff and Ravenclaw that seemed oblivious to their surroundings.
'Hi-Hiya! I made it!' She paused to catch her breath. 'Gosh.. It's more crowded than I expected.' She sat down and poofed up her fluffy scarf some more, her face hidden halfway. 'A-Am I late?'

The scot's head turned once his ears caught the familiar sound of Nico's voice. The set of thick curls blasting off in the wind as he turned his head to meet the girl. A wide grin appeared on his seemingly excited face. He had quickly found himself quite intrigued with the timid girl the moment they met. As he seemed to recall, her drawings moved as she released her pen off the paper. The fact they both were sort of a more shy nature helped a lot with their conversing he gathered. A pleasant surprise to find here in a school filled with hundreds of wild teenagers. And there were some really strange characters in this school..
As she plopped next to Hugh on the benches she seemed to nestle her way deeper into her scarf. Something that caused Hugh to grin ever so brightly. He swiped his fingers under his small, round nose and tried to pointlessly comb some hair out of his face to look at the other. "Not late at all. Just in time for the match to begin!" He pointed down, over to the field. He wasn't really sure if Nico would hear any of the words coming out of his mouth. Therefor he cleverly added a thumbs up in order for her to realize allw as well. His fingers changed form into a circle as to create the "OK" sign.
He was not sure how much Nico already knew about the game. He also did not want to bore her with too much details as she perhaps did not like sports at all. In which case he would be still very grateful for her to come with him to watch the event. "Do you know how it's played?" He asked with an encouraging smile on his face. His eyes carefully searched for an answer on the slytherin's obscured face. With her head dug into that way to big scarf, he wondered if perhaps she felt uncomfortable up here in the wind. His mind drifted off for a split second to rethink this. "Do you want an extra scarf?" His face was now out in the open as his hands had already clasped themselves onto the red and gold scarf. With one big swing of his long arms, he wrapped the scarf smoothly around the girl's shoulders.
"You might want to pull out your slytherin one a bit more though. This is your game after all." He smirked at the double layered Nico burried in scarfs. A bit odd for him to have come and cheer for her team basically. Yet he would not mind if it meant Nico would get some time enjoying something new. He certainly knew she could use some distraction from time to time.

He seemed reliefed to see her. Finally in his company, she felt alot better. He was like safehaven in this Castle filled with exeptional and excentric characters.
'I'm... really clueless when it comes to the rules of this.. game.' Slowely shaking her head as she looked up at Hugh. Everytime she met him again, he looked taller than before. His height really was quite out of place. Not in a bad way, really. It made it easier for the social angsty Slytherin to locate his whereabouts in a crowd. It was rather reassuring. Like a walking beacon of safety.
'I.. only heard from some girls at my dorm, that... this game concerns a heavy beating. Not for all of them... But alot of them. And.. they need to catch something? A-Also I - They won't crash in here right? Apparantly there were some cases where that ended up happening. Foul play and all that.' She took a deep breath. It had been awhile since she rambled on but that was just in her nature. Hopefully it didn't bother Hugh too much.
A flash of blue flew by there tower in high speed, it seems the game was just about to begin or already started. Amazed by the enthusiasm of the Ravenclaws behind her she instinctively rested her hands over her ears, pinching one eye closed. It reminded her of the hooligans that they showed on tv when the news started their sport section. Soccer, what even was so exciting about it? Maybe this would be more her cup of tea.
Turning head towards Hugh, she lowered her hands when the crowd settled down again. 'Do you know anything about the rules? I know you were rather excited to be here. Maybe share some of that knowledge so I can join in with that enthusiasm.' Nico smiled and tilted her head a little. The wind blew hard and cold, but her scarf was an unbreakable wall of coziness and fluff. No cold would invade.
That wall got soon reinforced with an extra scarf. The one of Hugh in the golden and red colors of Gryffindor. It felt rather heavenly... Almost luxurious. 'O-Oh! Thank you. But..' She noticed that the Scot now was exposed to the treacharous winds and freezing breezes. 'You'll catch a cold if you don't wear one yourself! My scarf on its own is pretty powerful against the weather up here..'
Apparantly Slytherin and Ravenclaw are battling each other on the field this time. The first ones to try out a new system. Should be rather exciting no?

"Hmmm the rules." Hugh had to take a moment and think about how he'd best describe the game. He did not want to make it too long, as most people could not stand hearing an entire documentary about how every move affected another in detail. He started off with explaining the different positions. Chasers, Beaters, Seekers and Keepers. He avoided touching on several of the most known manoeuvers as he felt that would be getting too much into it. She would find out for herself once the game was really into play.
As a Ravenclaw flew past the tribunes, Nico covered her ears due to a loud bunch of ravens behind them. Hugh could not help but smirk at the sight of the redhead feeling utterly displaced aming the crowd of students. She explained of her worry that a player might crash into them and noted of several occasions it had occured in the past. The tall Gryffindor gently waved her off and smiled. "No need to worry for that, foul play happens of course. But I am sure that in a school like this, the professors will see to our protection." He gave her a confident wink. As took another peek at the players.
Eventually Nico noted that he would be cold without his scarf. An affectionate message that caused Hugh to shurg a little. "I am fine really." He cocked his head slightly and gave her an appreciative smile before bumoing into her slightly to joke around that she should lose some of that tension. "Relax, I hope you will enjoy it in the end." Nico had quickly become close to Hugh. Something he felt assured off. He was glad to have found her by that lake that day. And he hoped he had not let her down by now. Though she did come over here at his invitation, that was nice.
"So ehh... how is life?" Life, what a stupid question really. he meant to inquire how she had been after the whole blossom ball. He thought he had seen her with another boy that had not been the pale hobo-boy from ravenclaw that she had an eye for. Maybe she knew what he was after. There hadn't been a lot of topics that had past their revue. "You know, with the year almost finished.. have any plans yet? Maybe we could hang out on diagon alley some time!" A slight chuckle escaped his mouth as he asked that. Perhaps it was more him than her that was actually looking to have some company in this castle. As he thought about it, there weren't an aweful lot of people he had got around and talk with. He bet his father would have laughed at that. The old man's laugh would have been echoing through the house and he would have ruffled his hair in encouragement. Speaking of ruffled, Hugh's hair would now seem as if it had been permanently enchanted to stand straight up. With wind in his eyes he would look almost exactly as when he woke up this morning.

Hugh explained the basics which she was thankful for. If he had gone too much into detail Nico would've surely started to space out to eventually only nod at everything he said... regardless...of what he actually said.
He reassured her that nothing bad was going to happen aswell. Nico really didn't feel the need to see a player fly into the crowd. That would've ruined flying entirely for her.
He refused her offer to get his scarf back. What a fool. After this game he'd surely catch a cold. No matter how big and meaty he is. He ain't no pinguin with some extra fat to keep out the cold.....
Right?
After he bumped into her like a clown she grinned and slowely shook her head. 'Well, it's your funeral.' She said while puffing her fluffy shield more against her neck. 'You're missing out.'
As the crowd finally calmed down again, Nico could finally hear Hugh's voice again. It sounded soothing in contrary to the students who were going wild like hooligans. It would only take some time before they'd start throwing chair- Oh.. wait... this is a magical school. Who knows what they'd come up with.
"So ehh... how is life?"
'Hm?' After glancing down at the field again she faced him once more. 'Oh.. Life. Yeah. I-..' She sighed deeply and folded her hands on her lap. 'The Blossom Ball wasn't really.. what I had hoped for..' Even though it had been a while, it still stung. Even though she met someone new and better, it still stung. She still had questions, many questions. 'I- I.. Pff.. I still don't know why.. but he left me there.' She picked up her hands and dropped them like dead weight. 'He... left me.'
Her eyes tingled and she quickly used the back of her sleeves to wipe away anything that looked close to tears. 'He just... dumped me. Big surprise. I should've gone with Pip instead. He's a true gentleman.' She nodded determined but that determination melted like snow before the sun when another player raced by their seats.
'As if that wasn't bad enough... one of the students I gave detention to came over to GiVe Me a PieCe Of My Own MeDICne...' She scoffed and grumbled. 'What a total prick... A jerk. A disgrace to Huffelpuffs... But.. I suppose...' A blush appeared on her cheek, her finger scratching the back of her head. 'I suppose I met another guy who... stood up for me and.. he pretty much saved my night. But... '
Her eyes widened again as she took the opportunity to scream when the students behind her back were going mad again. 'HE CAUSED ME TO GET KICKED OUT OF THE ROAM PROJECT.' She slumped down on her seat and sighed almost hopelessly. 'I'm never gonna get back in... I loved that class... Well.. It was a class out of class..'
She took a deep breath and looked up at Hugh when he mentioned to hang out again sometime after this. 'Oh? You're not going anywhere?' The Scott did have his ways to make her feel better about herself. 'I'm staying at Hogwarts after graduation. I'll owl my mom and dad though. Can't just... let them know nothing. So, sure if you'd like to, then I'd be happy to hang out anywhere with you.' Balling her fist she playfully hit his shoulder. 'It's a deal.'
'How... has life been treating YOU, though?' She tilted her head slightly, observing his bodylanguage before she'd burst into laughter seeing his hair just having a grand time on its own.
